a/n: Hi everyone, and welcome to my fic.

I am writing this during another of my extremely boring Dummy Math class's (Gawd I am such a rebel!!).

Year 11 really sucks here in Australia, and I really hate math's, so I'd prefer to be writing this anyway.

I just thought that I should let you all know where in the series that this story is based. I am currently up to episode 104 in the Inu Yasha series, so its based at around about that point. And don't worry too much if you haven't gotten that far into the series, cause this story should still make sense. I'll make sure of it.

Disclaimer: As I'm sure you all know, Inu Yasha is the property of Rumiko Takahashi, the Princess of Manga.

This of coarse means that I, like every other fanfic author, do not own Inu Yasha. Sorry to disappoint you.

The Prom chapter 1

" This is hopeless. This is stupid. Why am I even trying? He would never say yes" Kagome thought, looking down at her feet, as she made her way to Kaede's hut where the others were waiting.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Flashback~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Teacher: Now, I'm sure that all of you remember that the year 10 prom will be held next Friday, the 1st of May. I hope that any of you who are planning to go have arranged a date. If you do not arrange a date by next Monday, you will not be aloud to attend the prom.

" I really don't want to get stuck going with Hojo-kun. He is nice and all, but I cant see myself going to my prom, an event that I have been waiting for since elementary school, with Hojo-kun. I would feel bad towards him. He would think that I was going with him because I'm interested, but really, I'm interested in someone else. It would feel like a lie. I couldn't do that."

Kagome stopped walking, and looked up to see that she had reached Kaede's hut.

"Its now or never"

She clenched her teeth and swallowed hard before heading for the door (a/n: Yeah I know, Kaede's hut doesn't actually have a door, but I don't care, and you shouldn't either. After all this my fanfic).

"Kagome!!" an exited young kitsune, being held up by his tail by an irritated looking hanyou, called when he saw the young girl standing in the doorway.

Inu Yasha: "Took you long enough"

The hanyou stood to face her, dropping Shippo to the ground on his head in the process.

Instead of arguing Inu Yasha's comment, Kagome decided that it was best to ignore it. She need's to stay on Inu Yasha's good side if she really plans to ask him.

Kagome: "Inu Yasha, could you please come with me for a minute"

Inu Yasha: "Huh?"

Kagome: "Please. There is something I need to talk with you about."

He looked at her confused, but followed her out the door anyway; interested to hear what was so important that she didn't want anyone else to hear.

Kagome lead Inu Yasha back towards the forest, careful not to say anything or even look him in the eye, afraid of doing anything that might tick him off. Unfortunately for Kagome, this only irritated the hanyou more.

After only a minute and a half or so of their stroll, Inu Yasha stopped behind Kagome, deciding it was time to brake the silence, whether Kagome was ready or not.

Inu Yasha: " Kagome, what is it?"

She reluctantly turned to face him, head held low, and sighed before starting.

"Like I said before, its now or never" She thought.

Kagome: "Inu Yasha, I don't know how your going to take this but…

…But I'm going to ask you anyway…"

More Silence

Inu Yasha: "…Yes?"

Kagome: "…Will you go to the prom with me?"

Inu Yasha: "…And what's that?"

At this, Kagome sweat dropped.

" I'm such a baka" She thought to herself "Of coarse he doesn't know what a prom is. He is a demon from 500 hundred years in the past. I'm so stupid. I didn't even think to explain what a prom actually is, when that should have been the first thing to say to him. I swear, sometimes I ought to be blonde "

(a/n: No offence to you smart blondes out there who might happen to be reading this intended of coarse!! Gomen, I'll just go and sit in the corner for a while, okay. )

Kagome: "Sorry, of coarse you wouldn't know. A Prom is… well its…ano..."

Inu Yasha: "If your not going to finish within the next half hour, I'm going back."

Kagome: "No wait, I have a pamphlet in my bag."

Kagome swung her ever comically oversized yellow backpack off her back and onto the ground.

She began nervously sifting through its contents while Inu Yasha waited impatiently with his arms crossed.

Kagome: "Ahh , here it is"

She held the purple sheet of folded paper out to Inu Yasha. It was laminated, with photos from last year's prom on the front. He took it from her hand and, surprisingly, took the time to read the entire thing. After yet another brief moment of silence, he turned to Kagome and simply said…

Inu Yasha: "And you really expect me to dress like this?"

Kagome: "Its just for one night, and all of the other boys will be dressed the same. Plus, look at the date. You'll be in your human form that night, so there isn't any need for you to stay here."

Inu Yasha: "I don't dance Kagome"

Kagome: "Then Ill teach you. Please Inu Yasha I really want to go"

Inu Yasha: " But why do I have to go? Cant you just go by yourself"

Kagome: " No, your not aloud to go without a date"

Inu Yasha: " Forget it Kagome, I wont lower myself to go to some silly school dance. Why don't you stay here that night instead? "

Kagome: " No, I'll just go home"

There was no use persisting with him. The more she nagged, the more irritated he'd get.

She did try, but it looks as though the only way for her to go to the prom was through Hojo.

…Or maybe.

Kagome: " Well, in that case, I guess there's no helping it. I'll just have to go with Hojo Kun."

At this, Inu Yasha's ears twitched, and he turned to face Kagome once again.

Inu Yasha: " …Hojo? Who, who is he?"

Kagome: " Oh just some friend from school. He already asked me to be date for the prom, and since you've said no, I think I might just take up his offer. Sounds fair enough wouldn't you say?"

Inu Yasha: " Wait a minute, he asked you?"

Kagome: " Oh yeah, he's asked me out on dates a few times actually."

Inu Yasha began to clench his fist. To think that while Kagome was away in her time, doing all of her so called "tests", she might of actually been spending her time with this Hojo bastard, no doubt leading him on like she did with Kouga all the bloody time.

Inu Yasha: " Feh, like I care. Go with who ever you want. Its not like it matters to me anyway"

Kagome: " If it doesn't matter to you, then why are you getting so cut up?"

Inu Yasha simply chose to ignore this comment, and began headed back to Kaede's, kicking things along the way.

"Well that really backfired" Kagome thought before giving in and heading back to Kaede's with Inu Yasha.

That night, Kagome couldn't sleep. She looked over at the others. Miroku, Sango, Kaede and a snoring Shippo all appeared to be sleeping peacefully. Kagome sighed. Their fire had gone out and the hut was being lit only by the moonlight seeping in through the window

"Oi"

Kagome's head lifted to see that Inu Yasha too had not yet fallen asleep.

Inu Yasha: "About this prom thing, do you really want to go with this Hojo guy? "

Kagome: " Not really, but Ive dreamed of going to the prom since I was little. I need to go with someone, and since there is no one else, I'm stuck going with Hojo - Kun.

It could be worse"

Inu Yasha went silent and turned his head to look at the ground as a faint blush threatened to grow over his cheeks.

Inu Yasha: " …If it means that much to you, I guess I could go"

Kagome: "Hontou?"

Kagome couldn't believe it. Inu Yasha has agreed to going to the prom with her. He has agreed to letting her dress him up and parade him around to all of friends. I wonder if he is feeling all right.

Better say thank you quick before he changes hes mind…

Kagome: "Arigato Inu Yasha"

Inu Yasha: "Now, go to sleep"

Kagome nodded and rested her head back against the pillow. "Arigato" she whispered, although Inu Yasha wasn't able to hear, and soon fell into a light sleep.

a/n: Okay that's Chapter 1. So what do you all think so far. Sorry the ending was a little rushed, but I'm being nagged by Dad to get off the computer. You might have guessed that I'm no longer in math class.

And if your wondering why this fic is in the R rated section, all will be revealed in about 2 to 3 chapters (wink wink nudge nudge!!).

Okay that's it for now, I should update with chapter 2 in a few days with a much more interesting chapter.
