Chapter 10

 

Hearing the scream of the wench, Inuyasha rushed back to the direction of her voice.

 

`What the hell what is wrong with her screaming out loud.'

 

But as he neared he smelled the faint tinge of blood but it was unknown. She must have tripped and scratched herself. Inuyasha tried to calm down but the stench of blood was way too much for a tiny scratch.

 

By the time he rushed to the scene he was blown away at the destruction and the state of Kagome's health.

 

“Are you okay? Talk to me please!” Inuyasha swore and carried her off to the only healer he knew Kaede.

 

“What have we got here child?” Kaede asked quickly bring the patient inside and started to brew some water.

 

“This girl I met awhile back I think her name is Kagome.” Inuyasha mumbles looking down at the floor as if it held the answer to the world.

 

At the word of Kagome Kaede faltered a bit and hobbled over to look at the face of the poor girl.

 

“What are you doing aren't you suppose to heal her not look at her face?!” Inuyasha screeched afraid that she has gone too far too be saved.

 

“Oh no dear girl how did this happen and why now?” Kaede muttered shaking her head softly form side to side.

 

“What is it old hag what is wrong with the wench!” Inuyasha shouted.

 

“Calm down Inuyasha Kagome is fulfilling her destiny although it is something I would never wish upon the poor girl.” Kaede spoke softly as if Kagome could really hear.

 

“What do you mean destiny like a prophecy?” Inuyasha asked feeling sorry for the girl because he knew that prophecies are extremely hard to fulfill and using his as an example.

 

“Well let me start at the beginning” Kaede said settling herself down on the floor while dressing Kagome's wounds.

 

“You see a long time ago before even you were born I knew the mother of Kagome. We were the best of friend and played with each other many times while we were young. But soon our roles in life pushed us away. I had to learn how to become a miko and Kagome's mother had to go away because she was a demon and villagers were starting to get weary and afraid that their family would do something to harm the people. Even though we had all these problems we promised that we would look out for each other always no matter what.”

 

“Wait if they were demons weren't they killing all the mortals that came close what happened to the big feud between the mortals and demons?”

 

“Well if you would let me continue I can explain.”

 

“Feh.”

 

“Back then the feud hadn't started yet although the two clans were careful around each other we hadn't started a fallout war with each other. Yes I know I look very good for my age as a human I have lived so long because I was destined to carry out a part in this time so the gods have granted me everlasting life before I finish my job. Life continued as usual without the youkai family but as you know the harvests were a little harder to keep up with out your superhuman strength and speed. Many people grew older and got married and had children. Soon the villagers were also wary of me because my playmates have grown older but I looked the same as the day the youkai family left.

 

Not wanting to cause a problem I moved and resided in a small hut where the villagers could visit but not so close that they might feel tinges of fear. Until one day Kagome's mother came barreling though the forest looking just as beautiful as the day she left except older and more mature. We spent time exchanging stories of out lives during the time she moved and she still has the temper Kagome likes to show for time to time.”

 

At that time Kaede smiled down at Kagome's fatigued face slowly stroking her soft ebony hair. Clearing her throat Kaede started again eye's glazed over like she was remising the old memories.

 

“I cherished the time we had together although I wondered why she appeared so suddenly and roughly. But in time I find out. One day I was washing the laundery I felt the presence of strong youkai energy. It was an old neko youkai he stayed his distance but her asked if I had seen or felt some strong youkai energy passing by. By now I had the strong suspicion of Kagome's mother, since she arrived so unexpectedly. But now was clearly not the time to voice my suspicions. Before he left the Neko warned me that if they found any connection between me and the youkai I would die a fierce and painful death. Back then I was pretty strong so I sent him off on his way in a rude manner.

 

When I confronted Kagome's mother she broke down crying and said that she was running away from some people whom were chasing her but she wouldn't give any details. I was determined to push the information out of her but I need not have said a thing because over the period of a few months Kagome's mother had a rounder belly at first I though nothing of it because I wasn't familiar with youkai life so I thought that it was just a faze that youkai go though but over the next few months the belly grew bigger and bigger. Finally she confessed her biggest secret that she had run away from Kagome's dad and was carrying a child. But the child is very important to the safety of the world. At first Kagome's dad believed her and made sure no one knew of Kagome's mother's pregnancy. But it was as if he was under a spell he tried to hurt Kagome's mother aiming the attacks mostly at her mother's stomach. She knew that to stay longer was suicide so she left running away never stating too long in case his followers caught scent of her location and the people she stayed with were in danger.

 

She decided to stay with me because even though her other friend were youkai I was the strongest and could hide her for longer and if in case there was a battle I might be able to provide a distraction in time for her escape.

 

She pleaded for me to not be mad at her that the baby she carried in her womb is the most important person alive. I knew that she was never selfish in her escape because youkai had the best future telling sense there is. I promised I wasn't angry and would protect her and the unborn babe forever. My promise assured her and life went on as usual. Her belly grew bigger and on a cold winter day she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl Kagome here. She didn't even need a second as soon as she saw Kagome she knew Kagome's name.

 

“What you mean Kagome's mother is a demon?” Inuyasha exclaimed

 

“Yes her mother was.” Kaede replied evenly

 

“But she doesn't even smell anything close to one. Inuyasha exclaimed again taking another bid sniff to prove his point. “Nope not a trace except me”

 

“Well if I may continue.” Kaede started looking at Inuyasha as if just tempting him to speak up.

 

“A few months after Kagome was born more and more demons came looking for a pregnant or demon with baby. I guess some of the villagers felt frightened so they told the location of my hut and that I might be housing a demon with babe.

 

Kagome's mother knew that she couldn't spend her life running with the child so she made sure I would care for Kagome and in the middle of the night she left with a note saying that Kagome must be cared for and that I was in a spell to have everlasting life until I fulfilled my part in Kagome's destiny.

 

Ever since that day Kagome has smelled human to all the demons and I suspect that her mother put her in a spell too. But I have neither the knowledge nor power to break although it is probably better this way so that no demons try to harm her.

 

But today I think that somehow a demon figured out her real scent and her destiny so it tried to kill her but thankfully it didn't work.”

 

“I am a demon?” Kagome hoarsely whispered

 

“Your awake child?!” Kaede stuttered looking quite distraught.

 

“You lied to me!” Kagome cried.

 

Suddenly she stopped and fell back on the makeshift bed.

 

“Kagome!” Inuyasha yelled.

 

“It's fine she just fainted let her rest we both know that she needs it.

 

In a scary old castle

 

“So she has finally come the game is starting to play but I WILL win this time.” A Maniacal voice rasped.
