The Prophecy
Chapter 3
Hours later found the procession making camp for the night. His soldiers had yet to stop teasing him about his `little human girl.' Since Kagome had fallen asleep at lunch his soldiers and her friends had made him carry her. She was nestled in front of him, sideways on the saddle, in between his forearms, and leaning up against his chest with her arms wrapped loosely around his waist. Her breath fanned his neck, giving him a constant reminder that she was there. Not that he would ever be able to forget her, mind you, as her scent was wrapped around him, pulling him into a fuzzy semi-conscious state.
When he'd first seen her, when she and her friends were brought to his rooms at the fort, he'd thought that she was that sorceress whore Kikyou or just some other whore who happened to look like Kikyou. But upon closer inspection, their scents were completely different, and unlike Kikyou, Kagome was still pure, ruling out the possibility of her even being a whore. Even their eyes were different. Kagome's were a deep sea blue that he could practically drown in every time he looked into them where as Kikyou's were a cold, muddy brown. Kikyou also smelled like soil; not a very attractive smell in his opinion.
He liked Kagome's fiery temper and attitude. She was so different from the other females in his world. When he'd first called her Bitch, she'd yelled at him, and that had caught him off guard. She wasn't meek or quiet and that's what set her and her friends apart.
Usually those who had just met him were all respectful of his power and status, but not this girl; she treated him just like anyone else, not a Prince or half demon.
He smiled down slightly at the girl in his lap; unbeknownst to him were his watchers. The two girls looked at each other, grins spreading simultaneously across their faces.
Inuyasha gently handed her down to another soldier before getting down himself and reclaiming his charge. He sat down by the fire with her sideways in his lap, head resting lightly on his shoulder. She shifted slightly, pressing her nose into the juncture between his neck and shoulder and breathed in deeply, relaxing even more.
Inuyasha blushed, completely and utterly aware of his charge's scent and actions. Her scent wrapped around him, calming him in a way he never thought possible. He turned his head and buried his nose in her hair, closing his eyes and relaxing completely for the first time in years.
She shifted again and he leaned away, looking at her face. Her eyes fluttered open and she looked around groggily before meeting his golden gaze. Her sleep filled mind finally took in the situation and she blushed.
“Have a nice nap, Bitch?” Inuyasha asked, smirking. She blushed even more before hastily standing up and hitting him on the head with her fist. “Ow! What was that for, Bitch?!”
“I don't know, it just felt like the right thing to do,” she responded, completely awake now. She looked around the camp and saw that the soldiers were all seated around a fire, their tents and pallets already set up and horses tethered, pretending not to watch as Ayame, Rin and Sango were openly watching. “Is there somewhere I can take a bath? I need to get this dirt off of me.”
Ayame nodded, told them to gather their stuff, and directed her, Sango, and Rin down a path in the forest. She paused before she got too far and shouted back to the camp, “You guys better stay there, otherwise you'll find yourselves unable to perform in the morning.” The men collectively winced at her threat and cupped themselves.

The temperature rose significantly as the girls neared the hot spring. Kagome sighed, happy to have a warm bath. She set her stuff down and quickly rid herself of her clothes, folding them and setting them down by her stuff. She slipped into the water and gave a sigh of relief, closing her eyes, and sinking down into the water up to her nose.
She heard splashes and opened her eyes to see Sango, Rin, and Ayame all in the hot spring as well.
“Okay, now spill, Kagome,” Sango demanded excitedly. “What's up with you and Inuyasha?”
“I don't know what you're talking about,” she said innocently as she straightened.
“Bull,” Sango replied. “We both know that you were awake when you stuck your nose on his neck, it's a wonder that he didn't know.”
Kagome blushed. “Well, he's got such a nice smell, musky and like the forest after a good rain, it's hard to describe, but it's wonderful,” she told her friend truthfully, her voice taking on a dreamy quality.
“You really seemed comfortable with him holding you,” Ayame commented slyly.
Kagome groaned. “How long was he carrying me?” she asked.
“Ever since you fell asleep at lunch,” Rin answered cheerfully. “He would growl if anyone got too close or offered to carry you instead.”
Kagome thought that little tidbit over. “I can't deny that I'm attracted to him,” she admitted, “But what about him? Is he just being kind because he feels obligated?”
“I highly doubt that, Kagome,” Ayame told her. “`Kind' and `Inuyasha' don't even go together in the same sentence. I've never seen Inuyasha this protective of someone before. It's so strange to see him like this, but I do think that he feels attracted to you as well, he's just not very good with admitting things.”
Kagome thought about what she said while she scrubbed her arms, rinsing the dirt off of her. She yawned and got out of the water, wrapping her borrowed towel around herself. “I'm tired, so I'm going to go back to camp,” she told the others. She dried herself off and redressed, sans her bra, and walked back in the direction of camp.

Inuyasha watched the girls go, completely aware that his five soldiers were watching him. When the girls were out of sight and hearing range, he turned towards his soldiers. “There something that interests you?” he asked suddenly in a bad mood. His men grinned.
“Who knew that the infamous, bad tempered Prince would turn into a cuddly puppy with a little human girl,” one commented teasingly. Inuyasha directed a growl at him.
“I bet she smells nice,” another added. “What's she smell like?”
“She seems violent, sir, is that what attracts you to her?”
“I never knew you to be such a masochist!”
“How'd she feel pressed up against you, sir?” Inuyasha's growl got louder.
“Why do I have the feeling,” a voice rang out, “that your bark is worse than your bite?” The men turned towards the voice to see Kagome coming from the path that led to the hot spring.
“That's because it is, My Lady,” a soldier answered kindly. “Underneath that gruff exterior is a soft, cuddly puppy.”
“The cuddly part you should already know about,” another soldier laughed, igniting chuckles throughout the other soldiers. The chuckles quickly stopped once she directed a glare and growl at them. Inuyasha smirked.
“As wonderfully embarrassing as this conversation is for me, I'd rather find out what's going on,” she said, sitting down next to Inuyasha who was leaning back against a fallen log.
Inuyasha sighed and nodded. “There was a prophecy made long ago, back when my father was still alive and ruling. The lands were peaceful and prosperous under his rule. The prophecy said that in a few years time, a war would erupt with our neighbors, a great leader would fall, and they'd war for the next fifty years,” he said, staring into the fire as Kagome listened intently to the story.
“Two years later, when I was just a pup, my father died, along with my mother, and my brother took over the throne. War erupted with our neighbors, the Eastern Kingdom, ruled by King Naraku. It's been almost fifty years since then and the end of the prophecy said that near the end of the fifty years, travelers that weren't from here or touched by war would prove to be the turning point of the war.”
“And you think that's us?” Kagome asked a little overwhelmed.
“I know it's you. You have powers; they're dormant, but very powerful. We'll help you hone those powers and be able to use them better.”
“What about Sango and Rin?”
“Rin also has power, though it's different from yours. Yours comes from your spirit where as Rin will be able to pull hers from the environment around her. She's a sorceress while you are a priestess. Sango doesn't have power, but she is very strong for a human female and could easily rival any human male and some lower male demons.”
Kagome sighed. “And here I thought that I was just a normal girl that worried about boys and school and that has an insane grandfather who thinks he's got spiritual powers, a loving mother, annoying little brother, and a really fat cat.” She looked over at Inuyasha and asked. “Can I ask you one question, though?” Inuyasha grunted. Taking that as a sign to continue, she asked, “How old are you?” `He doesn't look that old, but then again, he's not exactly human.'
“I'm sixty-two in human years, twenty-one in demon years,” he answered.
“I'm eighteen,” she told him.
“And you're not mated?” he asked with surprise.
“If you mean married, then no I'm not. It's not socially acceptable to be married at my age in my world. Besides I still need to finish school.”
“Skool?” Inuyasha asked, testing the foreign word on his tongue.
“Yeah, it's a place where we learn things like mathematics, history, language, etcetera, etcetera,” she said, waving her hand dismissively in the air.
“How long have you been going to this `skool?'” he asked, curious.
“Since I was five.”
“Thirteen years?! Fuck that's a long time.”
“Tell me about it, I mean, I still have about another five or so years until I can actually get a job that'll support me,” she yawned and raised her knees up to her chest. Wrapping her arms around her legs, she rested her cheek on her knees and closed her eyes, relaxing her sore and tired muscles.
Her eyes shot open when hands grabbed her around the waist and settled her back against a solid mass. Legs rose up on either side of her, caging her in as two arms settled around her waist.
“Go to sleep, Bitch,” he said softly. She nodded, ignoring the name for the time being, and relaxed against him. She shifted to the side, resting her head on his shoulder with her nose close to his neck, her arms encircling his waist loosely.
“Smells nice,” she murmured the tip of her nose lightly touching the side of his neck. The soldiers laughed silently as they watched their tough and brass Prince actually blush.
The other girls came back to find both Inuyasha and Kagome curled together, fast asleep.
“Well, they seem comfortable there, all curled up like little puppies,” Sango commented sardonically as they made their way over to the fire.
“This is the first time I've actually seen him sleep while traveling,” one of the soldiers stated.
“I can't believe that Kagome's being so trusting,” Rin said.
“The same as with Inuyasha. He's usually completely untrusting of new people,” another soldier whispered.
They continued to talk, mostly about parts of Kagome and Inuyasha's conversation, including the prophecy, until one by one they went to sleep, all except for the one soldier who stood watch.
