Anyway, I hope you like this chapter. Sorry that it's late.

Disclaimer: If I owned it, I'd be retired and livin' lavishly on some private island in the Bahamas.

The Prophecy

Chapter 2

The three teens rose before the sun, having been used to getting up early for school, and quickly dressed in their borrowed breeches and tunics that a maid had left for them the previous night. They quietly agreed on continuing their regular morning ritual for some semblance of normality. The three girls made their way quietly out of the room, as Ayame was still asleep, and into the pre-dawn light.

Sango and Kagome stretched, bending down to touch their toes and then straightening to raise their arms up over their heads to stretch their arms.

“Okay you two, no killing each other,” Rin told them as she stood off to the side, leaning against a low fence in the courtyard near the well. The two nodded and took their stances. After a moment of silence, the two charged at each other, throwing punches and kicks and parries, darting backwards and forwards, dodging and jumping. Their movements were slow at first, but quickly picked up speed as their muscles loosened and lost their sleeping state.

Sango aimed a punch at Kagome's head, but she dodged and grabbed her arm. Twisting, she pulled the girl over her shoulder. Sango landed on her back with a thump. Kagome sprang back and took a defensive crouching position as Sango propelled herself back onto her feet.

They went on for several more minutes, going through the motions that Sango's father, their teacher, had taught them. By the time that they were done, the sun was already well into the morning sky, shining down brightly. The sound of clapping and whistles brought them out of their world as they bowed to each other at the end of their match. They looked around to see many of what looked to be soldiers of the camp, many of them appearing to be creatures similar to the captain and Ayame, though a few bore a more human appearance.

“You two fight well,” a voice said from behind Kagome. “Where'd you two learn to fight, Bitch?” A tick appeared in Kagome's eye as she turned around to see a smirking Inuyasha.

“My name is Kagome, Bastard,” she said to him, anger laced in her voice.

“Bastard? Temper, temper, Bitch. I could have you killed for that,” he told her cheekily.

“If you'd wanted us dead, you would have killed us last night,” Kagome said, rolling her eyes and putting her hands on her hips. “And besides, aren't you taking us to the capital today?”

Inuyasha frowned. “We leave in an hour,” he said briskly. “Horses will be provided for you and it will be about a week's travel.”

“Oh, Ayame said that she would be joining us on the trip,” Sango commented as she wiped off her brow.

“She did, now did she?” Inuyasha growled between clenched teeth.

“Yes, I did. I'm not about to let these three girls go with you without some feminine support. And from the looks of things, someone will wind up dead before the day's over,” the red head said, coming up to stand next to Kagome.

“Keh, whatever,” Inuyasha huffed, walking away.

“What got up his ass this morning?” Kagome asked, raising an eyebrow in the direction of the fleeing silver haired man.

“Probably has something to do with the prospect of seeing Lady Kikyou,” Ayame answered, the name sounding like poison on her lips as she frowned.

“Lady Kikyou?” Rin asked, joining the group.

“She's been trying to get Inuyasha for years, but he's always refused her.”

“Why's that?” Sango asked, curious about their disgruntled host.

“I don't know, he's said something about `waiting for the right bitch,'” Ayame said with air quotes.

“What is it with that word?” Kagome growled.

“It's a dog demon term for a female, believe me, its not derogatory,” Ayame soothed the raging teen. What she didn't tell her was that the term was reserved for potential mates. She did explain, though, that Inuyasha was only half dog demon, the other half being human.

Kagome nodded, not completely convinced that Ayame was telling her the whole truth, but conceded to drop it. She sighed and said, “I don't think I'm ever going to get used to this. I mean, it's not like we have demons in our world.”

Ayame looked surprised at that. “No demons? None whatsoever?” she asked.

“Not in centuries at least. They're all in faerie tales and myths and stuff, but none for real,” Sango answered.

“Interesting,” Ayame muttered. “Well, let's go get ready lest his highness gets into an even worse mood.” They laughed at that and headed back towards Ayame's room. “Hey, you guys never did say how you knew how to fight.” They proceeded to tell Ayame about Sango's father, their dojo, and how Kagome always goes over in the morning for exercise.

A little while later they walked out towards the stables with their backpacks to where a small party of soldiers—humans, demons, and half demons alike—and Inuyasha waited. “Took you long enough, Bitch,” Inuyasha growled. He was dressed in a red tunic with a dark leather jerkin over top and black breeches. A sword was strapped to his side by a belt that hung low on his hips. The hilt of the sword was worn and clearly showed its use.

“Good morning to you too,” Kagome said sarcastically. Inuyasha grunted in reply. “So, why don't we get this show on the road?”

“Your horses are back here,” Inuyasha said, leading them back into the wooden building that smelled of manure and hay. Towards the back were three horses, one a strawberry color, one the purest black and one a beige color, all already saddled.

“Oh, wow,” Kagome muttered, going towards the black mare. “You pretty, pretty horse.” She held out her hand to the horse that then proceeded to sniff it. Apparently pleased with her scent, she butted her nose into Kagome's palm. Kagome ran her hand up and down the spot between her eyes, marveling in the majesty of the horse. She turned towards Inuyasha and said, “She's magnificent, but I have no idea how to ride her.”

“You can't be serious,” Inuyasha groaned. “Don't they teach you that in your world?”

“Well, excuse me, but its not exactly common for people to go around riding horses anymore,” Kagome shot back. When the horse shifted nervously at her upset tone, she turned back to her and stroked her between the eyes to calm her.

Inuyasha sighed. “Alright, I'll help you into the saddle, but you're on your own after that.” Inuyasha led her around the side of the horse where he instructed her to put her foot in the stirrup.

Doing as she was told, she put her foot in the leather loop and Inuyasha grabbed her waist from behind. She pushed off of the ground with her other foot and Inuyasha effortlessly lifted her into the saddle. Kagome swung her foot over the horses back and stuck it into the stirrup on the other side. She shifted to get comfortable and set her bag in her lap. Sango and Rin were also helped onto their horses by soldiers and given quick lessons on what to do.

“Now, give the horse a kick with your heels to get her going,” Inuyasha instructed. Kagome did as he said and `eep'ed when the horse bolted out of her stall and down the aisle. She pulled on the reins, panic stricken, and the mare immediately came to a stop. She sighed in relief, causing Inuyasha to snicker. “Afraid of a horse, Bitch?”

Kagome glared down at him, mentally imagining herself strangling him. “I'd like to see your reaction if you were in a car,” she growled at him. Inuyasha paused, completely ignoring the foreign word as his inner demon reacted to her growl.

`Stop it,' he admonished, mentally growling.

`She's challenging us, idiot. Wouldn't that be fun? And think about how nice she smells,' his demon commented. Inuyasha took a discrete whiff of the girl's scent and was immediately in heaven. She smelled so good and so sweet, like a plethora of fruit on its ripest day.

He shook his head, clearing it of such thoughts, and went over to his own horse, a white stallion, the mate to the black mare Kagome was riding. He led the procession of ten horses out of the stables and out of the fort.

Kagome carefully and tentatively maneuvered her horse up next to Inuyasha's, though the horse didn't seem to need that much prodding as she immediately stopped next to the white stallion and butted her head against his. Once she was sure that her horse was going to stay next to Inuyasha's, she asked said half demon, “So, are you going to tell us what's going on?”

“I don't know what you're talking about,” he said in a falsely innocent voice.

Kagome stared wryly at him. “Bullshit,” she cursed, earning a startled look from him, “and you know it. I may be from another world, Inuyasha, but I'm far from stupid.”

Inuyasha grinned. “I beg to differ,” he snickered. Kagome growled at him and reached over slugged him in the shoulder.

Laughing erupted from behind them. “I'd watch out for that one sir, you might just lose something important,” one of the soldiers said.

“Oh, shut up,” Inuyasha growled.

“So, are you going to tell me what's going on now?” Kagome asked with a grin.

“I'll tell you when we make camp tonight,” Inuyasha said with finality. A few hours later they stopped at a stream to break for lunch and water the horses. Inuyasha dismounted and then walked over to Kagome and her horse. Kagome brought her leg over and Inuyasha grabbed her waist, lowering her down to the ground.

“Thank you,” Kagome told him sincerely. He grunted in response and guided both of their horses to the stream. He ruffled through a bag that was strapped to his horse's saddle and brought out bread, dried meat and cheese. He cut it all in half with his claws and gave some to Kagome. She smiled at him and thanked him before turning away to join Sango and Rin and didn't catch the light blush that dusted his cheeks.

“I don't know about you, but I'm sore,” Sango complained, gingerly sitting down on a medium sized rock, her thighs cramping from the unusual position that they'd been stuck in for the past couple hours.

“I am a bit too, but it's not that bad,” Rin agreed, eating the lunch that a soldier had given her.

Kagome sat, munching on the lunch Inuyasha had provided her with, contemplating her situation. She polished off her lunch and lay back on the ground, staring up into the blue expanse that was the midday sky. She closed her eyes and took a deep calming breath. She slowly and unsuspectingly fell into a deep slumber.

“Come on, Bitch, we're leaving,” Inuyasha directed over at the sleeping Kagome. He frowned when her form didn't stir. He raised his voice, thinking that her weak human ears didn't catch his voice, “Bitch, we're leaving, get over here.”

“I think she's asleep,” Rin said from atop her horse.

“She can sleep anywhere at anytime of the day,” Sango commented, jealousy in her voice. “Lucky.”

Inuyasha growled and stalked over to the sleeping girl. He crouched down, settling down on his haunches and shook her shoulder. She groaned and rolled over on to her side, swatting at his hand. Inuyasha renewed his growl.

“That won't work,” Rin told the angry, growling half demon. “Once she's out, she's out and she won't wake up until she deems it necessary.” Inuyasha snorted and stood up, walking back towards his horse.

“You can't just leave her there!” Ayame said angrily.

“What do you expect me to do with her then? Carry her?” he snorted. His soldiers looked at each other before turning back to him grinning.
