The Prophecy
Chapter 5
They arrived at the palace just as the sun was starting to set. It was larger and more spacious than anything Kagome had ever seen. A large wall surrounded the gigantic palace and looked impossibly thick.
“Wow,” Kagome whispered.
“It's been in my family for many generations,” Inuyasha said as he led them towards the palace. The large gate opened inward automatically, allowing them to enter. They were met on the inside of the wall by two men, both fairly tall, probably around six foot. One had long black hair pulled up onto the top of his head with his bangs held back by a brown fur band. He wore a brown tunic and black breeches. A brown tail swished behind him agitatedly. His eyes were the iciest blue that Kagome had ever seen.
The second man had dark brown hair pulled back at the nape of his neck. He wore a royal blue tunic with dark brown breeches and two gold hoops in his left ear and one in his right. His eyes were an odd violet color that Sango was immediately captivated by.
“Kouga, Miroku,” Inuyasha greeted.
“To what do we owe this pleasure?” the violet eyed one asked. “And how did you come to find yourself in such lovely company?”
Kagome, Sango, and Rin giggled. “Found `em out by the fort,” Inuyasha said, dismounting, causing everyone to follow suit. The man with the icy blue eyes and long black hair walked over to Ayame and caught her up in a kiss.
The soldiers hooted and howled, and once he let her go, he growled at them, causing her to laugh and say, “Missed you too Kouga.” She turned towards the girls and introduced that man. “This is Kouga, he's my mate.”
“Nice to meet you, Kouga,” Kagome greeted.
The violet eyed man approached them and stopped in front of the girls. “My dear ladies, permit me to introduce myself, I am Miroku, monk by trade, and I have a very important question to ask,” he said seriously as he grabbed a hold of Sango's hands, causing her to blush. “Will you bare me a son?” he asked in all seriousness.
Sango sputtered a blush encompassed her whole face. “What. The. FUCK?!” she yelled and proceeded to slap the `monk' as hard as she could. He stumbled back and fell onto his butt, clutching his cheek. “No. Way. In. HELL. Perv!” she yelled at him again, advancing on him. Kagome and Rin sprang forward, grabbing a hold of her arms and holding back their friend.
“It's not like you didn't ask for that you lecher,” Inuyasha commented in a slightly bored voice. “Come on you three, we need to speak to my brother.”
Sango gave on last burning glare at Miroku before she allowed Kagome and Rin to direct her towards the direction Inuyasha was heading. They followed after him, into the palace, down corridors, up stairs and through many, many doors. They finally came to a pair of double doors that opened to show a large study.
“To what does this Sesshomaru owe the pleasure, little brother?” a deep emotionless voice asked from somewhere behind the rows and rows of bookcases.
“Sesshomaru,” Inuyasha greeted his older brother. “The prophecy has finally come true.”
“What?” the voice demanded. Around a bookshelf came a man with long silver hair and who was slightly taller than the dog-eared prince. He had pointed elf like ears, two maroon stripes on each cheek and a blue crescent moon on his forehead. He wore a white tunic untied at the top, a red vest over that, and black breeches.
His golden eyes stared hard at his brother before looking to the girls behind him. “How did this come to be?” he asked.
“They came through the well at the fort I was at,” Inuyasha shrugged.
“Through the well?” Sesshomaru questioned, raising a brow.
“We were on our way home from school when we detoured and got sucked in by a blue light, your Majesty,” Rin elaborated cheerfully.
“Your Majesty?” Kagome asked, turning to her friend.
“He's the King, remember, Kagome? And Inuyasha's the Prince,” Sango explained.
“Oh, that's right,” Kagome laughed. “With the way that he acts, it's so easy to forget that he's royalty.”
Inuyasha growled, “Bitch—”
“Inuyasha,” Sesshomaru interrupted. Inuyasha turned towards him. “Make sure they are provided for.” Inuyasha nodded and turned around and exited the study with Kagome and Sango following.
Rin turned to Sesshomaru, who'd started to go back to the bookshelf he'd come from, and bowed to him. “It was a pleasure meeting you, King Sesshomaru!” she said cheerfully before turning and running out of the room to catch up to her friends.
Sesshomaru watched her go, face expressionless. He `hmm'ed before going back to the bookshelf he was previously at.
“You'll be staying in the guests' quarters in the southern wing,” Inuyasha was saying when Rin arrived. “There's a courtyard and garden right outside the southern wing and right across from the western wing where Sesshomaru and I stay.
“You'll have separate rooms right next to each other with maids to clean and prepare your rooms. There's a wardrobe in each that we can fill with clothes tomorrow from our seamstress. Each has a chamber pot and a door to the gardens. Any questions?”
“Are there baths in the rooms or are they communal?” Kagome asked.
“No, there are separate male and female bathes right down the hall that's shared between the southern and the western wings,” Inuyasha explained as he proceeded to show them their rooms.

Rin couldn't sleep. She stared at the ceiling in her room as she lay back on her bed. It was a fairly large room that she'd been given, with a four poster wooden bed that had curtains around it as the main piece in the room. It had a sitting area with a low table in front of a cushioned bench with wooden chairs surrounding it near the door to the garden outside. In front of the bed on the opposite wall was a mahogany wardrobe with brass handles and golden inlays.
Rin sighed as she threw off her covers and climbed out of bed. She ran a hand through her hair, untangling it from where she'd taken out her side ponytail. She padded silently over to her boots and pulled them on, not even bothering to pull on any pants, for the shirt that she'd gone to bed in went down to the top of her knees. She made a note to herself to get a nightgown when they went out for clothes the next day.
She walked over to the door to the garden and pushed it open slowly, praying it wouldn't squeak. Thankfully, it didn't. She opened it up just enough to squeeze out before closing it quietly. She walked slowly through the garden, savoring the scents and sights of all the flowers.
“What are you doing out here so late?” a deep voice asked.
Rin `eep'ed and spun around, one hand covering her mouth as the other one drew up to clench at her chest, only to come face to chest with a bare-chested King. “Oh, King Sesshomaru!” Rin sighed in relief, bowing her head to him before looking up into his mesmerizing eyes. She backed up a bit so that she could see him properly and regained some of her personal space.
Sesshomaru's bare chest showed off the same maroon stripes that were on his face and wrists also came up over the tops of his shoulders, around his hips, and down towards the top of his breeches, framing the dusting of white hairs that peeked out from the top of his black breeches.
“What are you doing out so late?” Sesshomaru asked again.
“Oh, sorry,” Rin apologized, blushing and just realizing that she'd been admiring the King's physique. “I couldn't sleep, so I came out to enjoy the flowers.” Sesshomaru nodded and sat down on a bench that was situated in front of a small hedge. Rin tentatively sat down next to him and folded her hand in her lap. They sat in silence for a while, enjoying the sounds of silence and wildlife around them.
“What do you think of it here?” Sesshomaru asked his voice quite.
“Well, it's no Tokyo, but it's not bad,” she said cheerfully. “In my world, there are a lot more conveniences. You could literally be on the other side of the world in a matter of hours. We've already been to space and a man has set foot on the moon, but people are always just so busy. They never take the time to just sit back and enjoy things every once in a while.
“Its always `there aren't enough hours in the day' nonsense.” Her tirade was cut short by a yawn. “It's peaceful in a weird sort of way.” Her eyes started to droop and she yawned again. She leaned her head on the surprisingly soft ledge next to her and let her eyes close all the way, finally succumbing to sleep.
Sesshomaru looked at the sleeping girl that rested against his shoulder. She intrigued him. She was so cheerful and lively, everything that he was not. So free from evil and untouched by war. What was it about her that drew him to her?
He carefully maneuvered himself out from under her head and picked her up bridal style, making sure that her long shirt was tucked in between his arm and the backs of her legs to preserve her modesty. He sniffed his way back to her room, balancing her on one arm to open the door, and then reclaimed her. He carried her the short distance to her bed, pulled the covers back further and laid her down gently.
He pulled the covers up over her and moved away. She instantly moved towards his receding warmth. He watched with interest as she whimpered quietly, resigned to sleeping without that mysterious and comforting warmth. He brushed her bangs away from her forehead and watched as she sighed and turned her head into his hand. He pulled away from her and left her room, making his way back to his own room to try to sort out the confusion he was feeling.
----------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------
Kagome poked her head out of her room and into the dimly lit hall, looking up and down it before sneaking out quietly and heading towards the bathhouse Inuyasha had showed them earlier that was in between the western and southern wings. It was dark and she could barely see by the torches lining the hall.
She walked to the female section and closed the door behind her. She quickly stripped, setting her clothes and towel on the floor and thanked the Gods that she'd asked a maid earlier to prepare her a bath. She quickly pulled her hair up into a messy bun and stepped into the water, instantly relaxing.
The water felt so good! It felt like all her aches and pains were just melting away. She soaked in the water for a good hour, becoming all prune like, before getting out and toweling off.
She redressed in her underwear and shirt, not bothering to put her pants back on as her shirt went down to her knees and she was just walking back to her room. She slipped on her boots and grabbed her things before exiting the bathhouse and turning to close the door quietly behind her.
“What're you doing taking a bath so late at night, Bitch?” a voice asked behind her.
She gasped and jumped, spinning around to see Inuyasha with his arms crossed over his bare chest, his wet hair sticking to his skin and ears drooping from the weight of added water. “I could ask you the same thing,” she said, chuckling.
He smirked. “I always take baths at this time of night.”
“Are you insecure about your physical appearance?” she asked, smirking at him. Inuyasha `keh'd and shifted his weight, looking away from her. “Don't worry, there's nothing for you to be insecure about, I'm sure.” Kagome's smirk turned sly as she walked around him, dragging her nails across his chest and upper arm.
Inuyasha smirked. “How about I show you?” he asked, following after her.
Kagome blushed lightly and smirked. “Only if you promise that you'll make it enjoyable,” she told him as she stopped at her door. “I'd feel bad if I were forced to take advantage of you.”
Inuyasha blushed deeply, not quite sure how to respond. He'd never thought that she would actually banter with him like that.
Kagome giggled at his blush and said sweetly, “Don't think too hard puppy.” She dragged a nail down his chest, relishing in his shudder at the contact. He closed his eyes and bit back a moan as she circled a nipple before the contact was broken. He took a deep, shaky breath as he felt something settle over his head. He opened his eyes to see Kagome's towel settled over his head.
He pulled it off to see Kagome in the arch of her door way, smirking. “Dry your hair off puppy, so that you don't get sick,” she ordered him, closing the door to leave him standing there, staring blankly at the piece of wood that separated him from his desire. He took another deep breath and groaned. Being surrounded by her tantalizing scent wasn't helping him squash the desire that was spreading throughout his loins.
His demon roared at him to take the mate that was right under his nose just as his human side told him that he couldn't and wouldn't force her into anything, not matter how willing she seemed. He knew that his inner demon already saw her as its mate, no matter that they'd only met a couple days ago, and that humans didn't find their mates by scent.
He groaned again, and walked off down the hall, intent on leaving the castle to find a nice cold source of water to cool off his desires in.

Sango awoke bright and early the next morning. Climbing out of bed, she quickly dressed in a dark pink tunic and black breeches and boots. She exited her room by way of the door to the gardens. She stood out in the shining morning sun and breathed in easily, relaxing her muscles as she went about her morning exercises.
She started off slow, with a round of punches and kicks, attacking invisible enemies, before speeding up. She was so absorbed in her movements that she didn't even notice her audience. She came to a stop, breathing hard and sweating. When the sound of clapping reached her ears she quickly went into a defensive stance and turned in the direction the sound was coming from. What greeted her was the perverted monk, Miroku, was what Inuyasha had called him, grinning broadly and clapping.
“What are you doing here, letch?” she growled, not moving from her defensive stance.
“I always take a walk around the gardens in the morning,” he replied cheerfully.
“Whatever,” she mumbled, standing upright. “Just don't come near me.” She turned to walk back to her room.
“Wait, I think we got off on the wrong foot,” he said, his comment causing her to stop in her tracks and turn back around.
“No, ya think?” Sango asked sarcastically.
“I never got your name yesterday,” he said, ignoring her sarcasm.
“I didn't offer it,” she said with a bored tone.
“Then can I get it this time?”
Sango didn't reply at first but sighed and said, “Sango.”
“Nice to meet you, Lady Sango,” Miroku said, bowing.
“Can I ask you something?” Sango asked with a raised brow, curiosity laced in her voice.
“Anything, Lady Sango,” Miroku told her sincerely.
“What was with the `will you bare me a son' thing?” she inquired.
“Nothing really, I just love to ask that of women whom I've just met,” he answered truthfully. “And I love to see their reactions.”
“And how many of those reactions have been slaps?” she asked, smirking.
“Too many to count,” he said, smiling also.
“You have a sick and twisted sense of humor,” she told him.
“So I've been told.”
“Sango!” yelled a voice, interrupting their conversation. Said girl turned in the direction of the voice to see Kagome and Rin running towards her with Inuyasha walking at a more leisurely pace behind them. “We're going for clothes now!” Kagome said excitedly.
Sango brightened at that piece of information. “Really?! Awesome! I definitely need clothes and the like,” she said happily, making her way off with her friends, leaving Miroku behind in the gardens.
