Rin had long black hair that hung loose around her shoulders. Her slim figure was clad in long airy red and black dress and a black jacket. On her feet she wore red flats. Lady Kaede had told her that the open house was formal but she couldn‘t help the cute flats that for some reason fit the dress. Rin climbed out of her red convertible. Sauntering down the path to the large building she had invested so much time and energy helping to make into a shelter for homeless people.

The building included a billiard room a swimming pool and a library. Reaching the front doors Rin stopped to admire the carving above the doors. The sign said “New York’s Finest, A Shelter For The Homeless” The words engraved into the wood were beautifully made although she had learned through Lady Kaede that the man who did it was a rude and obnoxious man that wouldn’t talk to anyone. He only yelled. But that was only when he was really angry, normally he just communicated in grunts and nods.

“Beautiful isn’t it?” A smooth male voice behind her brought her out of her thoughts.

“Uh yeah, I mean yes.” A handsome man of maybe thirty stood beside her. He was very tall and more than a little intimidating.

“It’s beautiful but I was told the man who made it is a jerk even though he’s talented.”

“Hmm. Not unheard of.”

Rin looked towards the tall man. He wore an almost smile on his lips.

“Are you going in or are you going to stand out here and gawk at the sign for the whole night?” His almost smile disappeared.

“Oh sure. I mean I would like to gawk at the inside for a little while.” she snickered. “I hear the designer was a crazy that couldn’t keep herself from spending ridiculous amounts of money on silly curtains.” She kidded and chuckled softly as he held the door open for her.

As soon as they walked in they were approached by Lady Kaede.

“Miss Rin you’re here. I’m so glad.” Kaede was smiling as wide as the mysterious man beside her but when she saw who he was she stopped short and said in the most condescending voice Rin had ever heard her use. “I see you’ve met Sesshomaru.”

Rin nearly choked. She turned to him.

“You’re Sesshomaru? The sign maker Sesshomaru?”

“Indeed.” He nodded.

Rin felt her cheeks go red so she turned around and left Lady Kaede and Sesshomaru to stare after her. She was so angry with herself. How could she have said those things. No wonder he didn’t seem all that pleased with her.

For the rest of the night she tried unsuccessfully to stay away from him. But the room was just too small. Every time she turned around he was there. She’d feel herself go red again so she would duck her head and move off in another direction excusing herself quietly and quickly.

At the end of the night when Lady Kaede was giving presentations Rin was called up to the front where Lady Kaede was standing to say a few words about her part in putting the place together.

“Thank you. As most of you know I had a lot of fun with this project. I only wish I could do more to help the homeless of this city. I also hope I can do more jobs like this. It may be a girl thing but I loved shopping for the different colours and fabrics we used here. I hope we were able to create the right atmosphere for the people who will be taking advantage of this building.” Rin talked a little more about the features of the building before concluding. “I sincerely hope we can all work together to make this city a better place. And of course since this project is finished I am now in need of another. Please let me know if you know of anything.” With that Rin escaped the microphone to loose herself in the crowd.

Rin felt a hand on her arm.

“Not so fast.” The voice attached to the hand said pulling her back. “You’re ignoring me!”

“Sorry, just embarrassed.” Rin blushed.

“Kaede and I are not on the greatest of terms. It’s okay. I need your help and I’m willing to pay you. I hear you paint and I have Been searching for a painter that isn’t already busy. It shouldn’t take a long time. Just a couple of weeks to get it all done.” He looked at her patiently.

Rin stared at him mouth slightly ajar.

“You want my help after what I said?” She couldn’t believe it.

“Yes.” Sesshomaru had his almost smile back.

“Even after what I said about you?”

“Was I the only person you told?”

“Yes.”

“Then what’s the problem?”

“I still said it. I don’t usually gossip I just wasn’t thinking.”

“Then we’re fine.”

When she didn’t answer he put on a serious face.

“So what do you say?”

Rin chewed on her lower lip a little. “I did say I wanted a project didn’t I?”

“Yes.”

“So I guess that’s your answer.” This time it was his turn to be surprised.

“You mean you’ll do it? You‘d be surprised there are no available painters in town.” His eyes were bright and his almost smile was as wide as ever.

“I‘m not surprised.“ Rin laughed. “There has been a demand for painters because of all the new buildings going up and it‘s spring cleaning time which means, paint the house for summer.”

“It’s a pretty complicated job. It’s not going to be very well organized because it’s such a strange project. Also the designer isn’t very organized himself.”

“Should I be worried?” Rin squinted her eyes at him a little.

“Perhaps.”

“But it will be worth my time and effort and I feel so good about helping you out right?” Rin chuckled.

“Thank you so much. When can you start?”

Rin chewed on her lip trying to think of when she would be free.

“Monday.” she replied.

He didn’t say anything so she said, “That’s in two days.”

“I know that’s why I’m surprised. I figured you would want to rest from all the work you did here.” He said gesturing around the room.

“Lets just say I like to keep busy.”

“Hmm.” Was all he had to say about that.
