Chapter Three

When Darkness Falls

 

Inuyasha couldn't believe his good luck. Here he was sitting in the soccer field with the members of The Sage and they were calling him a friend. But what Inuyasha couldn't believe was the girl that sat beside him. Her name was Kagome also known as The Miko. She was so wonderful. True he didn't know much about her because she didn't like to talk in interviews but from what he heard of her sitting there he was coming to like her more and more. Not to mention that her scent was driving him crazy. She smelt like wild flowers mixed with vanilla. It was the most beautiful and erotic scent that he had ever smelt.

 

Inuyasha was so wrapped up in her scent that he failed to notice that Koga had gotten up and moved to sit on the other side of Kagome. “Hey Kagome!”

 

Kagome turned and looked at the wolf and smiled. Inuyasha just growled. Of course Kagome couldn't hear him but Koga just smirked and turned his attention back to Kagome. “Uhmm… Koga was it?”

 

“Yeah! What are you doing after school?”

 

“I have to go to Towers Recording and finish signing my contract and go to a meeting with Kaeda. Why?”

 

“Is it going to take all night?”

 

Kagome looked like she was thinking and he could of sworn that Kagome had glanced at Sorano. “I don't think that it is going to take all night. Why?”

 

Koga grinned and slid a little closer to Kagome. Inuyasha growled again. Why the hell am I growling at Koga? Its not like Kagome belongs to me. Inuyasha shook his head. She my not belong to you but your youkai blood is claiming her.

 

“I was hoping that you would like to go out tonight. I know that you haven't been in Tokyo for a while and I would like to show you around.”

 

Rin suddenly sat up and clapped her hands, “Oooo we can all go out together!!! That would so much fun. I am so tired of unpacking and going to studio after studio. Getting out on the town would be so much fun!!”

 

Inuyasha smirked, “That sounds like a great idea Rin. We can all go out together and have a great time!”

 

Kagome smiled and Inuyasha saw her mouth a thank-you to Rin and Rin winked back at her. Koga didn't see any of this as he was glaring at Inuyasha. Kagome smiled and said, “I love that idea Rin. I think that is just what we need.”

 

“I don't know Miko. What if we are `needed' tonight? I mean what if Kaeda needs us at the studio.” Inuyasha did a double take. What the hell is going on? I mean Sango says that this babaa needs them and they all go quiet.

 

“Oh!!” Inuyasha jumped as Rin jumped up and pointed off in the distance. “There's Kohaku. Sorano I'm going to go and talk with him. I'm be back later.”

 

Sorano, who was chatting with Sesshomaru, turned and looked in the distance and then at Rin. “Sure Rin.”

 

“Arigato Sorano!!” Rin leaned down and kissed her temple before she turned and ran down the field.

 

“Rin seems really attached to you Sorano,” Sesshomaru leaned over and started to chat with Sorano again. Inuyasha listened and every once and a while he would glare at Koga who still hadn't moved from Kagome's other side.

 

“I have had Rin since she was about 5 years old. I was really close with her parents. An accident happened and Rin lost both her parents. I didn't want Rin to go to a foster home or anything like that so I adopted her.”

 

“They let you? That's surprising.”

 

Sorano shrugged and leaned more against the tree as she closed her eyes. Inuyasha smirked as Sesshomaru moved a little closer to her. “It was hard to convince them that I would make a good guardian. The ningens didn't like the idea of a full-blooded youkai raising a little ningen girl but even they couldn't keep her away from. Especially when she ran away from her foster parents and ended up at my home close to midnight.” Sorano sighed and opened her eyes. “I was so angry with her foster parents. I didn't live in a neutral zone and youkai ran around freely. I think it was my scent on her that saved her life that night.”

 

Miroku gave her a quizzical look, “Neutral zone?”

 

Sango looked at Miroku and gave him a weird look, “Yeah you've heard of neutral zones haven't you? I mean we're in one right now.”

 

“Are you talking about safe zones?” Miroku moved closer to Sango and Sango's eye started to twitch.

 

“Touch me and die hentai. I guess they are called safe zones here.”

 

“What is a neutral zone and I'll tell you if they are the same thing.” Miroku stopped moving closer to Sango but Sango kept an eye on him.

 

Sorano looked like she was thinking and then she started talking, “Okay well a neutral zone is an area in a city, town or village that youkai are not allowed to hunt in. Therefore youkai, hanyou and ningen live in these areas and don't worry about random attacks.”

 

“Yeah its pretty much what a safe zone is but lately the safe zones aren't even safe anymore.” Miroku shook his head.

 

“What do you mean Miroku?” Kagome leaned around Inuyasha and looked at Miroku.

 

“Well it seems that the lesser youkai have been moving into the city and have began attacking sections of the city at a time. So far they haven't killed anyone but a lot of people have been seriously hurt and the police are helpless to stop it from happening.”

 

“Why can't the police help? Don't they have youkai trackers in the force? I know in Seattle they did and that is how they caught youkai that were trying to attack ningens in the neutral zone.” Sango looked confused and Inuyasha just shook his head.

 

“The youkai on the force are fucking idiots. I don't think that they could track their own shadows let alone the lesser youkai that have hidden themselves in the city. But it seems to me that they are looking for something or someone.”

 

Kagome looked at Inuyasha and Inuyasha smiled. How the hell can she do that to me with one look? “What do you mean looking for something? The lesser youkai only come into the city if they don't have food where they are.”

 

Inuyasha shrugged and sighed, “I mean if they were looking for food they would have killed the ningens and ate them. But they aren't. They are ripping apart building and the ningens are getting hurt by the building falling on them. They look and then move on. It doesn't make sense. I have never heard of a group of low life youkai working as a group like this. Something's up.”

 

Miroku raised his hand before himself as if he was praying, “Then we had better hope that the United Alliance starts to handle this.”

 

Inuyasha punched Miroku in the back of the head and the monk barely caught himself before he face planted himself, “You fucking idiot! There is no such thing as the United Alliance. Where the hell do you hear this weird shit?!”

 

Kagome gave Miroku a confused look, “United Alliance?”

 

Miroku rubbed his head, “The United Alliance is a secret organization of ningen, hanyous, and youkai. They are a united front against youkai and ningens that attack cities and the citizens. They have remarkable technology and very extreme training. No one has seen then but they have been known to help all across the world.”

 

Kagome giggled and Inuyasha smirked. God I love her laughter! “Well if they are a secret organization then how come you seem to know so much about them?” Kagome giggled again.

 

“Hey Miko look over there!” Sango pointed over to the far corner of the field closest to the school. Kagome turned, as did everyone else, and looked where Sango was pointing.

 

“Wow! We're going to be doing archery this year! I wonder when we will be doing that?!”

 

“Probably in a month or so. By then the weather is still nice and we can do it outside. You have a choice of which ones you would choose.”

 

“What choices are there?” Kagome asked Inuyasha.

 

Inuyasha raised a finger for every one he said, “Archery, swordsmanship, martial arts, track, and gymnastics.”

 

“You can only choose one?”

 

“No you can choose three of them and then they make up your year of P.E.”

 

Sango sighed, “Only three? I want four of them all ready. Can you choose to do four or all of them?”

 

Inuyasha shrugged, “I don't know. No one has ever done more then three in the year.”

 

Kagome sighed, “Well I am already a master Archer so I guess I will do track instead.”

 

Inuyasha laughed, “You don't have to choose now and you're a master Archer?”

 

Kagome nodded, “My mother taught me.”

 

Inuyasha was about to comment on that but he caught Sorano shaking her head out of the corner of his eye. Inuyasha looked at Sorano confused and she just shook her head again. Suddenly Kagome stiffened beside Inuyasha.

 

“Kagome?” Inuyasha leaned closer to Kagome.

 

“Sorano?”

 

Inuyasha looked over at Sorano and saw that her eyes had flashed solid silver and returned to normal when she blinked. “Kagome how many are you sensing?” Sorano shook her head as her eyes flashed again.

 

“A lot…”

 

“What is going on?!?!” Inuyasha growled out. Inuyasha turned when felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned to see Sango looking at him gravely.

 

“They are both sensing youkai. And by the way Sorano's eyes are flashing they are coming closer and closer.”

 

“WHAT!” Inuyasha yelled and sniffed the air. Sure enough he smelt youkai and a lot of them. They were heading straight for them. “Holy shit…”

 

Miroku looked concerned, “We should head for the school…”

 

“Yeah and have it fall on us when the youkai attack. I think that we are better off outside. At least that way we don't have to worry about the building falling on us.” As Sango was saying this Inuyasha noticed that other youkai and hanyou in the field were sensing and smelling the youkai that were coming.

 

Suddenly the sky darkened and the sound of wings flapping filled the air. “They are flying youkai. And what the hell is that weird smell?!?!”

 

Sorano stood up and so did Kagome, “I thought that this was a `safe' zone? So much for that theory.”

 

Kagome turned to Sorano, “I don't like this. I can sense that they are being controlled by something. They are not thinking like lesser youkai but something different. It is as if something is thinking for them.”

 

Inuyasha stood up and moved closer to Kagome. Everyone else in their group stood up as well. Inuyasha smirked as Sesshomaru moved closer to Sorano. He was almost touching her. I think my brother has a crush. Inuyasha mentally laughed. Yeah like that would ever happen. My brother the ice prince being romantic with a female.

 

Sorano suddenly looked down the field. They were coming into view now. It looked like there were at least thirty of them if not more. Great! Just great! I really didn't feel like fighting today. I just wanted to sit and talk with Kagome and smell her all day. Inuyasha cracked his knuckles. But this is going to be sweet.

Kagome heard Inuyasha crack his knuckles and she smiled to herself. At least he is willing to fight. I just hope he doesn't get hurt in the process. Last thing we need right now is to worry about these guys getting hurt. I know that we girls can handle this but the guys… I don't know…

 

Kagome was brought out of her thoughts as ningens started to scream. The youkai were now entering the field. They looked like wasps but a lot bigger and they looked poisonous. Kagome sent out her miko in hopes of finding out what it was that these youkai were after. Kagome gasped. They have no thoughts of their own! They are moving by someone else's thoughts and that person is really far away.

 

Suddenly a high pitched scream ripped through Kagome's heart. I know that scream… I can't be… It was to late. Sorano was off like a bullet at the sound of the scream. She was merely a streak of white and silver as she ran down the field. The youkai were now descending upon the students in the field and Sorano was darting in between the ningens and the youkai that were attacking.

 

“Taijiya we have to help Haven!”

 

“I'm on it Miko. You get the arrows and I will follow after Haven. She will get to the Innocence in a minute.”

 

“Hai.” Kagome ignored the looks that she was getting from the guys as she took off down the field. She had only one thought of her mind as she ran. She needed to get to the archery supplies that they had seen earlier. If she could then she could use her purifying arrows on the youkai.

 

Kagome looked up and jumped out of the way just in time as one of the youkai wasps tried to grab at her. Soon more and more were coming at her. Why are they coming after me? I know that they can't sense my miko. They don't have thoughts of their own. I guess they are sensing what I am trying to do.

 

Kagome jumped out of the way again as another wasp streaked towards her. She was nearly there. The bows and arrows were resting against the fence. From where Kagome was she could only guess the bows and arrows were in good condition. Another scream rent the air and Kagome stopped to look further down the field. Oh no…!

 

Rin was sitting in the field surround by about ten wasp youkai. The wasps were hovering in a circle around her as she screamed. Of course they go after the one of us who isn't a fighter. I feel almost sorry for them… almost…

 

A roar echoed through the field as Sorano attack the wasps' head on. They didn't know what hit them. Sorano looked so gracefully and agile as she tore the youkai to pieces in mere seconds. Kagome took this time to run the rest of the way down the field and towards the archery supplies. She reached them just as wasp attacked her. Kagome rolled and the wasp's stinger ripped her shirt. Oh that thing did not just rip my favourite shirt!

 

Kagome grabbed a quiver and filled it with arrows. Then she grabbed the best looking bow and ran towards Sorano who was comforting Rin as she shook in Sorano's arms. Sango had made it to Sorano the same time that Kagome did.

 

“I got a bow and some arrows.”

 

“I got two swords. Haven did you want to use one?” Sango held out the hilt of a sword to her.

 

“No I will be using my claws on these worthless youkai. They attacked my Rin. I will tare them apart with my own claws. We need to get the youkai to come after us. Miko you know what to do.”

 

Kagome nodded as she stepped forward and knelt down in front of Sorano. Kagome closed her eyes and let out her miko. It wasn't nearly as much as she would normally let out but she didn't want to give away how powerful she nearly was. Besides it worked like a charm. The youkai wasps stopped their attack on the students and started to head in their direction.

 

“Beautifully done as ways Miko,” Sango placed her hand on Kagome's shoulder.

 

“Thank-you Taijiya.”

 

“Miko I need you to make a barrier. You will have to protect Rin for me. Taijiya and I will handle the main attack of youkai. Cover us with your arrows.”

 

“Hai.” Kagome raised her hands in pray and started to mutter under her breath. Kagome felt her miko wrapping around them and create a barrier. “It is done Haven.”

 

“Excellent. Now Rin you stay close to Miko.”

 

“But…”

 

“No buts young lady. I will be most displeased if you do not listen to me.”

 

Rin held in a sob and nodded. “That's my girl.” Sorano hugged Rin tightly before standing up. “Taijiya. They attacked what belongs to me. As a pack member we must demand revenge for what they did.”

 

Sango turned slightly to Sorano and nodded. “Hai!”

 

Kagome stood up and grabbed an arrow and notched it to her bow. “Then let us begin!”

 

The wasps had gathered all around the barrier and every once and a while a wasp would fly towards the kekkai and was purified instantly. I hate making such a powerful kekkai. It always burns Sorano when she jumps through.

 

Sorano and Sango stood ready and waited till the youkai had moved in closer. Sango was watching Sorano out of the corner of her. Kagome knew this tactic. When Sorano moved so would Sango. They would be fighting from both sides and Kagome would be watching from the center. Someone else may have controlled the youkai but they wouldn't be able to figure them out fast enough.

 

Sorano leaped forward and jumped from the safety of the kekkai. Sango followed suit and ran from the kekkai. Kagome was still amazed at their fighting skills. They fought so quickly and perfectly in sync with each other. Kagome turned to make sure that Rin was still behind her before she turned her attention to the battle. Sorano and Sango were destroying the youkai at an alarming rate.

 

Kagome saw a wasp sneak up behind Sango and faster then any human she aimed her bow and fired. Her arrow hit true and the wasp disintegrated from her purifying attack. Sango looked over at Kagome and nodded a thanks. Kagome thus watched her friends back as they destroyed all the youkai.

 

Sorano leap into the air and destroyed the last youkai with a snarl on her face. That ought to teach anyone at this school not to attack anyone that is important to Sorano. Sorano landed gracefully and Kagome removed the kekkai. Rin ran out from the kekkai and wrapped her arms tightly around Sorano and cried.

 

“I was so scared. I was talking with Kohaku and his friends and then suddenly those youkai appeared and seemed to come after me. Why would they Sorano when I have your scent all over me?”

 

Sorano hugged Rin back and rubbed her back, “They were not thinking for themselves. They smelt my scent and came after you. I think it was because they smelt a power on you and thought that you were a threat. I think we need to head to Tower Recordings right away. This needs to be reported and now!”

 

“I agree whole heartedly and…” Kagome never finished her sentenced because she felt Inuyasha running towards them. Kagome turned around and was surprised when Inuyasha wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly.

 

“Holy shit I have never been so worried in my entire life.” Kagome had to admit, at least to herself, that it felt wonderful to be held by Inuyasha.

 

Sesshomaru, Koga and Miroku weren't that far behind Inuyasha. Sesshomaru was the first to speak, “I have never seen anyone fight that well as a team before. You all were truly a treat to watch in action. However my must inquire as to how you knew how to fight so well together?”

 

Sango was the first to response, “Well when you are a popular rock band and guys can't seem to keep their erm… monkeys under control a girl has to learn to defend herself. We have just been together for so long that fighting as a team is easy for us.”

 

Miroku snickered at Sango's comment, “Monkeys eh?”

 

Sango blushed and looked away. Kagome gently pulled out of Inuyasha's embrace and looked at his concern filled eyes. “I am alright Inuyasha. But we should really get going. There is no point in us staying here plus if we want to go out and do the town then we need to get going to Towers to sigh our contracts.”

 

Inuyasha sighed but released Kagome. Kagome smiled as she turned to her friends. “Let's get going guys.” The girls nodded and started to walk towards their bags that they left under the tree. We have been at school not even a day and youkai attack the school. It seems that Kaeda was right about the youkai attacking popular places. We need to talk with her and soon.
