Chapter Four

The United Alliance

 

Kagome sat in the passenger seat of Sango's car. She had a silly grin on her face as they made their way through the city to the recording studio. Kagome sighed happily as she tried to sit still. Her actions didn't go unnoticed by Sango who laughed.

 

“Come on Kagome what's got you squirming in that seat?”

 

“I can't help it. I am just so happy! We have actual friends!”

 

Sango and Kagome both laughed, “I know what you mean Kagome. At our last school the people that hung around us were not really friends. They just hung around us because we are a popular rock band. But these guys are different. They didn't ask us once about the band. They talked to us as if we were real people. I could do without Miroku groping me all the time though.”

 

Kagome laughed. “He likes you!”

 

Sango dry laughed, “I heard from Koga that he does that to all the pretty girls. But I must admit… he is really cute.”

 

Sango pulled to a stop behind Sorano as they waited for the light to turn green. “Kagome don't you think its weird that your riding with me and Rin is riding with Sorano. I mean I always drive Rin around because, as she puts it, she needs some time away from Sorano.”

 

Kagome shrugged, “You know Rin. She is very weird like that. She says that she wants time away from Sorano but then she cuddles and sits with Sorano whenever she can. But I can't blame Rin for wanting to be near Sorano after the field attack. Sorano was really pissed off that Rin was almost hurt. I can't remember seeing Sorano that mad before. I mean when we are working and it's just the three of us I remember her saying that she would never let Rin out in the field with us.”

 

“Sorano is just looking out for her and she knows it. Rin can complain all she wants. She is great at her job and she knows it. Besides I don't think Rin would be very good at field work.”

 

Kagome nodded as the light changed green and they followed after Sorano. Kagome smiled to herself again as she thought back to the parking lot before they left the school. Kagome leaned against the window and sighed happily.

 

“Okay Miko what now?!”

 

“I was just thinking about the parking lot before we left.” Kagome blushed slightly as she looked out the window.

Kagome followed behind Sorano and Rin as they made their way towards the parking lot. Sorano had her arm around Rin and Rin was finally starting to calm down. It helped a lot that Sorano was whispering words of comfort to her. Kagome shook her head. She couldn't believe what had happened. They were attacked in the field. And here she thought that they were in a neutral zone. Kagome jumped with she felt someone loop their arm around her arm. Kagome looked beside her and smiled at Sango.

 

“You okay girl?” Sango squeezed her arm and smiled.

 

“Yeah I'm more worried about Rin. She looked so scared and then looking at Sorano. I mean holy cow. That was scarier then the youkai.”

 

They walked in silence as they cleared the school and now were walking through the school parking lot. Kagome smiled when they finally reached Sorano's Carrera and Sango's Viper. Kagome started to walk over to the Carrera when Sango gripped her arm a little tighter. Kagome looked at Sango and then at the Carrera. Sorano was helping Rin into the passenger seat of her car.

 

“Kagome I think that you should ride with me. It would be better to let Rin and Sorano be together. You know how Sorano can get when something or someone threatens her Rin.” Kagome nodded and started to walk towards the Viper's passenger seat.

 

“Kagome!!”

 

Kagome stopped and turned around. Just as she turned around she came face to face with Inuyasha. Kagome gasped and nearly tripped over her own feet as she backed up. “Kami-sama!! Inuyasha you scared me!”

 

Inuyasha smirked, “Did you forget already?”

 

Kagome blinked and looked at him dumbfounded. Inuyasha laughed. “Forget what?”

 

“Remember you all said that you would come out with us tonight if you had time.”

 

“Oh yeah! Gomen,” Kagome bowed slightly, “with the attack and everything I kind of forgot. I'll give you my cell number and you can call us later. At about eight should be good.”

 

Kagome looked for her bag and remembered that she had handed it to Sango to put in the car. “Ermm… I don't have anything to write with…”

 

Inuyasha held up a pen and Kagome took it. “Now I just need…” Kagome smiled evilly as she grabbed Inuyasha's hand. Inuyasha stiffened slightly as Kagome turned his palm over and wrote her phone number on his hand. Kagome finished writing her number and handed Inuyasha back his pen.

 

Inuyasha smirked as he looked at his palm. “Thanks.”

 

Kagome smiled as she walked towards Inuyasha and leaned up to whisper towards his ear. “I'll be waiting for your call.” Kagome smiled to herself as Inuyasha shivered slightly. Kagome backed away and smiled. She didn't look back as she walked to the Viper and got in.

“Kagome? Kagome!” Kagome jumped as she realized that they were parked in the underground parking lot of Tower Recording.

 

“Whoa we're here already.”

 

Sango laughed as she climbed out of the car. Kagome undid your belt and climbed out the car. Kagome walked around the front of the car and waited from Sorano and Rin. They had parked on the second level and since Sorano was higher up then the two of them they were parked on the third floor. Kagome leaned against the still warm hood and rested her hands on her knees.

 

“You seem nervous Kagome,” Sango stated as she stared at the door that lead to the stairway.

 

“Why would I be nervous? I have been doing this as long as you have.”

 

Sango shrugged and crossed her arms across her chest. “You just seemed preoccupied in the car a little while ago.”

 

Kagome sighed, “I was. I was thinking about Inuyasha.”

 

Sango finally looked away from the door and stared down at Kagome. “Inuyasha?”

 

Kagome nodded, “I don't know what it is about him but I feel like I have met him before. I just hate the fact that I can't be completely honest with him. I can tell him everything about the band, us and stuff but this I can't. I know he doesn't know that we do this but every time that I am near him it's as if he knows I'm not telling him something.”

 

Sango sat beside Kagome and wrapped her arm around her shoulders, “Kagome he isn't thinking that and if he is so what. Its not like you are going to tell him. You know what would happen if you told him.”

 

Kagome shuttered as she remembered what had happened in New York. “I don't want that to happen ever again.”

 

Sango was about to reply when an echoing `click' rang out in the empty parkade. Sango and Kagome looked up to see Sorano and Rin walking towards them. Rin looked a lot better and the colour had returned to her cheeks. Kagome smiled. Sorano has got to teach me that technique. She can make anyone feel better after spending like ten minutes with them.

 

Sorano and Rin came to stop in front of the girls, “So guys are you already?”

 

Kagome and Sango stood up and smiled, “You bet we are Rin. How are you doing?”

 

Rin smiled and wrapped her arms around Sorano's waist, “I'm great now! I'm sorry if I worried you guys. But I haven't been trained like you three and that attack scared me. I now have a whole new respect for you guys and what you all do!”

 

Kagome smiled, “Thanks Rin! Well let's do this.”

 

Kagome pushed off the hood and started to walk towards the stairway. Kagome stopped at the cement wall to the right of the stairway door. Once everyone was gathered around her Kagome placed her hand on the cement and said in a very clear voice.

 

“Higurashi Kagome, Agent 1097, Clearance Level Alpha.” Kagome waited as the cement around her hand started to glow a bright green. Soon the green enveloped her hand and a green identity pad appeared on the wall.

 

`Higurashi Kagome Cleared' Kagome smiled as she stepped to the side and Sango stepped up and placed her hand on the now green pad on the wall.

 

“Hiro Sango, Agent 1103, Clearance Level Alpha.” The green pad lit up again as it scanned her hand.

 

`Hiro Sango Cleared' Sango smiled and stepped aside and waited beside Kagome.

 

Rin walked up to the pad and placed her hand on the I.D. scanner and said, “Takahashi Rin, Central Command Operator 326, Clearance Level Omega.” Rin smiled as the scanner once again lit up and scanned Rin's palm.

 

`Takahashi Rin Cleared' Rin smiled and turned to Sorano. Sorano stepped forward and placed her hand of the ID scanner. “Sorano, Elite Agent 015, Clearance Level Omega,” The pad lit up again and scanned her hand.

 

`Elite Sorano Cleared'. Suddenly the wall started to ripple as a steal door appeared. Everyone stepped back as the steal doors slid open. Kagome looked at everyone and walked forward to the now open room. Kagome climbed in and was followed by the others. Once they were all inside the doors closed and the same voice that cleared them came over the PA.

 

`Welcome to Tower Command. Please state the floor in which you wish to be transported to: Level One : Main Floor

Level Two : Training Center

Level Three : Central Command Operating Center

Level Four and Five : Interrogation and Containment Area

Level Six and Seven : Technology Department and Advanced Weaponry

Level Eight : High Command'

 

Sorano sighed as the computer rambled off the levels of the building. Once the computer was done Sorano cleared her throat and stated in a bored and dry voice. “Level Eight”

 

`Sorano, Clearance Level Omega. Level Eight Cleared.' The voice died as they felt the floor start to descend. Sango started to laugh and instantly all the girls started to laugh as well.

 

Sango wiped a tear from her eye, “I still can't believe that they have that stupid computer voice in the elevator. I mean why can't they put buttons on the wall like a normal elevator.”

 

Rin laughed, “Then it wouldn't be the United Alliance now would it Sango.”

Inuyasha was laying on his king sized bed. He had a goofy smile on his face as he stared at his palm. The palm that now held Kagome's cell phone number. Inuyasha smirked to himself. Now I have her number and I can call her whenever I want. Of course I have to wait till eight tonight to call her but I was the only one that got her number. Inuyasha slowly sat up and looked around his room. It was pretty plain but Inuyasha was not one who liked a lot of `material' items. All he needed was his bed, a few dressers, his entertainment center and the two comfy leather chairs.

 

A nock at his door drew Inuyasha's attention. He got up and walked across the room and opened the door. Inuyasha growled as his brother walked into the room and walked right over to one of his leather chairs and sat down.

 

“Please come in and make yourself at home.” Inuyasha spat out as he closed the door and walked over to his brother. “What the hell do you want?”

 

Sesshomaru looked at him with his emotionless face, “Did you reach that Kagome girl before they left?”

 

Inuyasha sat down, “Yeah I got to her in time. What's it to you?”

 

“Did you ask them about tonight?”

 

Inuyasha sighed, “You know it's rude to answer a question with a question. And yes I did.”

 

The two sat in silence until Sesshomaru finally broke the silence, “And?”

 

Inuyasha grinned to himself. He may not be the most patient hanyou in the world but when it came to pissing off his brother he had all the patience in the world. “Kagome said that they were still planning on coming out with us tonight and I am to call her at about eight.”

 

“Are they all coming?”

 

“Don't you mean is Sorano coming.”

 

Sesshomaru glared at Inuyasha. “Don't get cheeky with me hanyou.”

 

“Oooo I'm so scared. Look I could tell that you were courting her the minute you sat beside her. So don't act so dumb. I have never seen you show so many emotions on your face at once. I thought your head was going to explode.” Inuyasha jumped out of his seat just in time as Sesshomaru swiped at him with his claws.

 

“Temper temper brother. Yes they are all coming. Now if that is all you wanted to know then get the hell out of my room.” Inuyasha walked over to his bed and laid on it again as he closed his eyes. Inuyasha heard Sesshomaru stand up and leave the room.

 

No sooner had Sesshomaru left his room then his phone went off. Inuyasha growled as he sat up and reached over for his phone. “This had better be good.” Inuyasha growled into the phone.

 

“Hello to you to Inuyasha.”

 

“Miroku what do you want?”

 

“I was wondering if the lovely ladies were coming out with us tonight?”

 

“Yes they are now leave me alone.”

 

“Wait! What time?”

 

Inuyasha ran a hand through his hair, “They want me to call them at eight.”

 

“Call them? You got their phone numbers?”

 

“Phone number. I have Kagome's cell number. Now I'm hanging up and getting ready. I'll call you when we are coming to get you.”

 

Inuyasha didn't even wait for Miroku to say good-bye before he hung up the phone and rolled onto his bed. This is going to be a great night!

Kagome, Rin, Sorano and Sango all sat around a large round table. The high back leather chairs were very comfortable but the wait was annoying. They had arrived at the conference room about twenty minutes ago and now they were waiting for the Head of Tower Command to show up. This was starting to get on Kagome's nerves. She hated it when people were late.

 

“Man I don't think were going to be getting out of here anytime soon and I'm starting to get hungry.” Sango rubbed her stomach as she rested her head on her hand with her elbow on the highly polished table.

 

“I know what you mean Sango. I am hungry too. You'd think that they would hurry this up.” Rin stated as she twisted in her chair. The only one who looked at ease was Sorano. She was sitting with her arms crossed across her chest and had her eyes closed. Kagome sighed again and was about to rest her head on the table when the large oak doors opened and in walked a very short plump woman.

 

“I am very sorry to keep you all waiting. I had some very important business to attend to.” The woman walked around the table and came to sit in one of the leather seats that were right across from the girls, “My name is Kaeda and I am the Head of Tower Command. I am very please to welcome you four to the Tower's team.”

 

The girls all bowed slightly and smiled. “It is a pleasure to finally be able to work for you.” Sorano smiled at the woman.

 

“Well I must say that it took a little to long for you four to come to work at the Japanese base but now that you are all here it is going to be a lot better.”

 

“What did you mean Kaeda?” Kagome leaned a little forward in her chair.

 

Kaeda sighed and rubbed her good eye, “A lot has been happening since you four left Japan to work in America and Canada. And it wasn't until you all returned to Japan that we have breathed our first sigh of relief.”

 

Sango crossed her arms, “What are you talking about? We never heard that Japan was doing worse then the other countries that we have worked for.”

 

“Well that is because the Americans and Canadians didn't want to loss their best team to us. They never informed you of the youkai attacks that have been happening here.”

 

Rin piped up now and she was angry, “They can't do that! That goes against the code. If one of the other Commands was in danger or needed help it is the duty of the other Commands to offer help. They also must ask all teams if they would like to transfer to offer their assistance.”

 

“I know this as well as you do Rin but that is not how it has been working. But enough of that nonsense. Now it is time to get down to business. First off I would like to say the media is completely buying the story that the popular rock band `The Sage' is now the newest member of Tower Recordings Team. This will make it believable to everyone that the reason you are all seen here is because of studio recording time.'

 

`Second I usually like to have the new recruits run the training ops mission but I have seen first hand what you are capable of doing. I know that you four will be my best team. Also what I am about to tell you is extremely classified. No one and I mean no one outside this group is to hear about this mission. You will only talk about this mission in a secure conference room or in your secured homes. Your new homes have been secured correct?”

 

All the girls nodded and Kagome sighed. You'd think that after nearly five years of this we would know what to do once we moved into a new house.

 

“Alright then! Now onto business. Lights!” The lights in the room dimmed on command. Suddenly the center of the table vanished and a larger metal sphere rose out of the center of the table. Kagome leaned back in her chair waiting to hear the new mission. Three cylinders grew out of the top of the metal sphere and started to glow. The holographic projector hummed to life.

 

The first image that appeared was that of a very tall thin man. After looking closer at it Kagome realized that this man was actually a youkai. His hair was very short and his eyes were blood red.

 

“This man is called Mystic. He is a very powerful youkai that has been seen running throughout the city. He has an army of wasp youkai at his command.” Wasp youkai? Could he be the one that ordered the youkai attack on the school? Kagome grinned when Sorano voiced out what she was thinking just a second earlier.

 

“Kaeda-san, this youkai controls the wasp youkai and our school was attacked today by a swarm of them. Do you think that he was one that was behind the attack?”

 

Kaeda looked thoughtful for a moment and then grew quiet, “That might have been him but we can't be certain. That is why I am sending you three out to get him. I need him alive and all the other attempts to get him have failed and a lot of the agents have come back with very serious injures. I will be leaving the file with you all and I wish to see you all on Friday. I know that you all have just arrived here and it is getting late. You all need to unpack and have a little fun before the United Alliance once again becomes the only thing you think about.”

 

With that said Kaeda got up and left the room. Kagome sighed as she looked at her friends. Sango groaned as she rubbed her temples, “That was a complete waste of our time. I mean she didn't tell us anything about the guy and now she wants us to bring him in so she can question the shit out of him. I don't really want to spend my nights reading the file on his guy.”

 

Sorano looked at Sango and sighed, “It is our job to keep the youkai, hanyou and ningen in order. Without this organization the world would be in chaos and you know it Sango. So we are just going to have to suck it up and make the best of the situation and hope that every thing turns out fine.”

 

“I agree Sorano. We need to start to focus on the United Alliance. This is our job and in order to keep the peace we need to first find out what we are up against.”

 

Kagome knitted her eyebrows as a sudden thought came to her, “When I was talking to Inuyasha he was saying something about these attacks. He says that the youkai don't seem to be attacking the ningens but they seem to be searching for something or someone. Maybe that is what the youkai from today were doing?”

 

Sorano nodded, “ I agree Miko and the only way to be sure is to look up all the past histories of these attacks and see if there is a connection. Rin I need you to find out all you can. Sango and Kagome you are going to come with me. I need to look through the new weaponry and armoury room. I heard rumours that there is new nano-tech armor system that they are working on and I want to see when it will be operational.”

 

Rin smiled and jumped up from her seat and left the room. Good old Sorano. She always knows what we need to do and then she steps up and gets us all organized. This is going to be a long evening.
