Chapter Nine

An Eventful Night…

 

Inuyasha sat on the couch with Kagome. She looked exhausted and was lying with her head resting on his shoulder. Inuyasha still couldn't believe the events that had been happening. The attack that afternoon at school and then another attack at the club. It was more then Inuyasha could handle in one day but of course that wasn't the only thing that was meant to happen. Sorano came back from protecting Kagome, hell from protecting them all, and she was badly hurt. Then Sesshomaru actually showing that he had emotions. Of course his emotions came in the form of losing control of himself and attacking Kagome's kekkai in order to get to Sorano.

 

Inuyasha looked from Kagome's tired face to Sorano and Sesshomaru who were sitting across the room on the other couch. Sorano was sitting in Sesshomaru's lap and she had her eyes closed. Sango and Miroku were talking quietly in the corner and every once and a while Sango would glare at Miroku. Inuyasha guessed it was because he was saying something prevented. Rin was sitting on the same couch as Sorano and Sesshomaru but she was keeping her distance, as Sesshomaru was still a little riled up from before. Inuyasha smirked as he looked over at Koga. He was standing in the corner and was glaring at Inuyasha.

 

That's right you stinking wolf. Kagome is mine! Inuyasha growled and Kagome sat up. “Inuyasha?”

 

Inuyasha looked away from Koga and down at Kagome, “Hai.”

 

Kagome cocked an eyebrow at Inuyasha, “Were you… I thought I heard you… growling?”

 

Inuyasha blushed slightly as he put his arm around her, “I wasn't growling. Just something in my throat.”

 

Kagome smiled slightly, “Oh yes something in your throat.” Kagome snuggled up to Inuyasha and rested her head under Inuyasha's chin. Inuyasha sighed and rested his chin on Kagome's head and tightened his hold on her.

 

“Well it is getting late and we have school tomorrow. We should get going.” Inuyasha glared at Sango as she walked away from Miroku.

 

Before Inuyasha had a chance to response Sesshomaru growled. Everyone looked at Sesshomaru and Sorano gasped as she slowly opened her eyes. “Sesshomaru?”

 

Sesshomaru was glaring at Sango and she just glared right back, “You are all staying here tonight.”

 

Sorano sat up slightly and looked at Sesshomaru, “Well we should really get going Sesshomaru we…” Sesshomaru growled and Sorano raised an eyebrow at him. Inuyasha smirked as Sorano stood up and glared at Sesshomaru. “Did you just growl at me?”

 

Sesshomaru looked at Sorano but didn't answer. Sorano crossed her arms and glared at him intensely. Inuyasha almost laughed as Sesshomaru looked like he was recoiling. “I asked if you just growled at me?”

 

Sesshomaru looked away from Sorano, “You are going to be staying the night.”

 

Sorano huffed and looked to Kagome, “We're leaving.” Kagome nodded and stood up. Inuyasha grabbed Kagome's belt loop and held on tightly.

 

“Inuyasha let go. We're going home.” Kagome smacked at Inuyasha's hand. Inuyasha smirked, as he pulled on her belt loop really hard. Kagome shrieked and fell backwards, landing on Inuyasha's lap. Inuyasha quickly wrapped his arms around Kagome and held her down. “Inuyasha!”

 

Sango walked over to Sorano and nodded, “I think that you're right Sorano. We need to leave now before we do something that we will regret.”

 

Sesshomaru stood up and pulled Sorano to him. Sorano gasped as Sesshomaru leaned down and whispered something in her ear. Sorano's jaw dropped as Sesshomaru continued to whisper in her ear. Sorano gasped and turned around quickly. “You wouldn't?!”

 

Sesshomaru stood to his full height and nodded. Sorano looked to Rin and then to Sesshomaru. “Fine! But we will be leaving at sunrise.” Sesshomaru nodded and yelled out into the room.

 

“Jaken!”

 

Sorano jumped slightly and suddenly a small green toad like creature came into the room. “What the hell is that?!” Inuyasha burst out laughing. My Kami-sama Sango you need to stop being so blunt!

 

Kagome looked at Sango and she just shrugged. “That,” everyone looked at Sesshomaru, “Is one of my vassals. Jaken get the guest wing ready. We will be having guests for the night.”

 

“Hai Sesshomaru-sama.” Jaken bowed and left the room.

 

“Well now that that is settled I would like to talk to my girls… alone please.” Sorano pulled herself from Sesshomaru and started to walk towards the hall. Sango and Rin followed after Sorano and Sango helped Sorano walk better. Kagome made to stand up but Inuyasha didn't want to let her go.

 

“Inuyasha it has already been decided that I am staying but Sorano wants to talk to us. So uhmm…would you please let go?”

 

Inuyasha sighed and let Kagome up. Kagome turned and smiled at Inuyasha. “That's my big dog. I will be back soon.” Inuyasha growled at Kagome's choice of words but soon he was groaning as Kagome gently rubbed his ears. “See you soon,” Kagome leaned back and whispered in his ear, “my big dog.” Kagome giggled as she ran from the room.

 

Inuyasha came out of his sombre and growled at Kagome's back as she ran from the room. “Don't call me that!!” Kagome just kept running from the room.

Kagome ran into the hall and found Sango and Rin both supporting Sorano. “Kami-sama! Sorano are you alright?” Kagome ran over to Sorano and helped the others help Sorano sit down on a bench in the hallway.

 

Sorano smiled weakly up at Kagome, “I am fine Kagome. I am just getting weaker and weaker. I need the sun. But it is still…”

 

“Five hours and forty three minutes away.” Kagome turned and looked at Rin. She was looking at her watch. “What I set my watch to tell me when the sun is going to rise. I thought it would come in handy one day and I was right.”

 

“I appreciate it Rin but it doesn't help me now. Look I know that you are all probably mad at me for choosing to stay here the night but I honestly don't think that I would have made it home.”

 

Kagome sat down beside Sorano and patted her shoulder, “We don't blame you Sorano. I was kind of wondering that myself. But now the others will know about your `trick' when the sun rises.”

 

Sorano sighed and placed her hand over her belly wound, “I don't really have a choice and I think that we can trust these guys. I mean they've been watching out for us all this time. I already trust Sesshomaru and I know he wouldn't tell anyone.”

 

Kagome nodded, “I agree. I trust Inuyasha and I've only known him for… well not even a day.”

 

Sorano laughed as she turned to look at Kagome, “Plus you were making out with him at the club.”

 

“WHAT!” Kagome laughed nervously and waved her hand at Sango.

 

“Well I did tell you that I felt something for Inuyasha. And he feels the same thing for me. So yeah we kind of got caught up in the moment and uhmm…”

 

Sango shook her head, “I don't want to know.”

 

Rin looked out the window, “Well it is really late and we are staying in a really awesome house.”

 

Kagome looked around the hall that they were in. She never really had a chance to look around. It was a sight to behold. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru lived in a castle of sorts. The hall had vaulted ceilings and chandeliers were spaced all down the hall. To Kagome's left was the front entrance and to the right of that was the living room that they had just left. They were doors lining both sides of the hall and at the end of the hall was a large staircase. Kagome guessed that the staircase lead to the second level and all the bedrooms. “I agree Rin this is an awesome house. But I'm tired and we all need rest.”

 

Sorano nodded and tried to stand. Sorano cried out and sat back down. “I think… I think I opened my wound. Damn I need my youki to return. I would have been healed by now if I been hurt in the light.”

 

“Sorano please rest. This is all my fault.” Kagome hung her head. If it weren't for me then Sorano wouldn't be hurt right now. If it weren't for me we would all be saying good-bye at the club and going home to work on our case. Why did this have to happen now? Sorano has always been so good to me and this is how I repay her.

 

“Kagome you will never talk like that again!” Kagome jumped slightly at the volume of Sorano's voice, “This was not your fault. It was never your fault. You are all my family and I will protect each and every one of you with my life. I know that you would have done the same thing for me. I will never blame you for this so don't you blame yourself.”

 

Kagome looked at Sorano and managed a weak smile, “Hai.”

 

Sorano wrapped an arm around her shoulders and hugged her tightly, “Good now that that is settled, Rin.”

 

Rin turned her attention away from the window and looked at Sorano. “Hai?”

 

“I wasn't only attacked by Shigekazu at the club. There were two other youkai that attacked when I was attacking Shigekazu.” Kagome perked up and looked at Sorano.

 

“You were attacked by two other youkai?”

 

Sorano nodded as she continued, “Hai now Rin I managed to draw blood from the two that attacked me. Of course that was after one of them gave me this wound.” Sorano pointed at her stomach.

 

Sango crossed her arms and glared at Sorano, “So let me guess this straight; you were taken by surprise and got hurt because of it. Are you slipping Sorano?”

 

Sorano laughed dryly, “I didn't heed one of the rules of basic training. I was not aware of my surroundings. I didn't think that anyone would attack me if they saw us fighting. It is a dishonourable thing to join in a fight that doesn't concern ones self. That is why I had be sure to draw blood on each of them.”

 

“And why was that Sorano,” Sango started to tap her foot.

 

“Sango do not start with me tonight. I may be injured but I can still put you in your place,” Sango's eyes opened wide for a moment but she fell silent. Those two will never change. “I made sure that I drew blood because the ones that attacked me were youkai or at least hanyou. I have never seen a human that fast. And if they are youkai or hanyou it is very likely that they will be registered. And if they are registered then they will be in the database at the United Alliance. So Rin I ended up getting all three of their blood on me and I wiped it on my car seats…”

 

“In your car?!?! Kami-sama Sorano are you sure you'll all right?” Rin walked over to Sorano and placed her hand on Sorano's forehead.

 

“Yes I am fine and my car was the safest place to put the blood samples. If I only kept it on myself then it would have been washed off and we'd be out of luck. I didn't think I would be conscious once I got here. So when we get up in the morning get the kit from Sango's trunk and get some swab samples of the blood.”

 

Rin nodded and just then the little toad like creature, Jaken, came running down the stairs and towards them. Kagome almost laughed when the toad ran past them, without a second look, and ran into the living room. Sorano's laughter broke the silence and soon everyone was laughing. Sorano suddenly gasped and held her stomach again.

 

“I shouldn't have laughed that hard. I think I'll going to pass out…”

 

Kagome scooted closer to Sorano and Sorano rested her head on Kagome's shoulder. Rin sat down beside Sorano and took her hand in hers. “Sorano you will be resting soon enough.”

 

Sorano closed her eyes and nodded, “I think that is the best thing for now.”

 

A shadow fell over the three girls and Kagome looked up in the golden eyes of Sesshomaru. He had a strange look in his eyes. Kagome guessed that it was concern but it was gone to soon for her to really figure out what it was.

 

“I will be carrying Sorano to her room. The rest of you can follow behind me.” Kagome and Rin scooted away from Sorano as Sesshomaru leaned back and gently picked Sorano up, bridal style, and started to walk down the hall and towards the stairs. Rin shrugged her shoulders and followed after Sorano and Sesshomaru.

 

Kagome stood up and stretched, “Well a nice warm bed sounds great right about now.” Kagome gasped when two arms wrapped around her waist and pulled her back. A hot breath on her neck made Kagome moan.

 

“I'll make you nice and warm Kagome.” Kagome bit back the urge to moan.

 

“Inuyasha…”

 

“Come on its time for bed.” Inuyasha picked Kagome up and followed after the others.

Inuyasha watched at Sesshomaru walked to the end of the hall on the second floor and turn to one of the guest rooms. Rin was walking with them and opened the door for them. Kagome was snuggled up to him with her arms loosely wrapped around his neck. Her scent had been driving him nuts all night and now with her so close he was trying his best not to just ravish her right then and there.

 

Sango came to a stop on Inuyasha's other side, “Uhmm where is my room?”

 

Inuyasha looked at Sango, “Choose any room you like except the one at the end of the hall and the one to the right at the end of hall. Those two rooms are Sesshomaru's and mine. Miroku and Koga have stayed here enough that they pretty much have rooms of their own.”

 

Sango nodded and entered the room that was right beside the one that Sesshomaru, Sorano and Rin had walked into a moment ago. Inuyasha looked down at Kagome and she had a soft smile on her lips and her eyes were closed. Inuyasha somehow managed to open the door and walked in. With his foot he gently closed the door.

 

The room that Inuyasha had picked once belonged to his mother. Of course that was years and years ago and her scent was no longer in the room but he couldn't think of a better room for Kagome. Sesshomaru had kept the room pretty much the same as it had been when his mother had occupied the room and the womanly touches were perfect for his Kagome.

 

Kagome stirred in Inuyasha's arms and looked up at him. Her chocolate brown eyes burrowing into Inuyasha's soul. He could lose himself in her eyes and he wouldn't even try to fight it. How can she hold such power over me when we haven't even known each other that long? “Hey sleepy head.”

 

Kagome smiled and Inuyasha's heart skipped a beat, “I guess I was more tired then I thought. Plus your heart beat is very soothing.”

 

Inuyasha blushed but the room was so dark that Kagome couldn't see it. “Keh! Weak human.”

 

“As I recall I'm your weak human.”

 

Inuyasha's youkai blood grinned with pride. She knows that she belongs to me. “Damn straight woman.”

 

“Inuyasha you can put me down you know.”

 

Inuyasha sighed but put her down anyways. Kagome walked around the room and Inuyasha instantly felt empty and alone. He wanted to feel her again. He needed to have her scent right in front of him, so close that he could taste it. He needed her aura to sooth this raging youkai blood.

 

“This room is so amazing,” Kagome turned and looked at Inuyasha. Inuyasha smiled at Kagome and she tilted her head, “But someone very special once lived in this room. Is it okay for me to stay in this room? I don't want to impose on their memory for you.”

 

Inuyasha gasped. How did she know? I didn't say anything. I didn't even tell her about my mother or this room. “What are you talking about?”

 

Kagome walked over to Inuyasha and gently laid her hand on his cheek. “This room is speaking to me. I can feel it in the air that I am breathing. I know that someone special to you once lived in this room. Is it okay for me to stay in this room?”

 

Inuyasha placed his hand over Kagome's and sighed, “It was a long time ago and I know that she would have liked you right a way. She would have wanted you to stay here in your time of need.”

 

Kagome smiled and slowly pressed her small body against Inuyasha's. Inuyasha's breath caught in his throat. Her scent was intoxicating and it was everywhere. Kagome wrapped her other arm around his waist and pulled herself even closer to Inuyasha.

 

“Inuyasha,” her breath washed over face and Inuyasha had to close his eyes to regain his control, “Thank-you so much for sharing this room with me.”

 

Inuyasha, with his eyes still closed, nodded dumbly in response. Get a grip on yourself Inuyasha. If you don't your going to do something that your going to regret. Inuyasha's eyes shot open as he felt Kagome's lips gently pressed against his. Kagome's tongue gently licked his lip and Inuyasha lost it.

 

Inuyasha wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her flush against him. Kagome gasped and Inuyasha thrust his tongue into the recesses of her mouth. Kagome smiled as she laid against his chest. Inuyasha pulled Kagome close and breathed in her scent. She smelt like him. Good now that fucking wolf will know to stay away from my Kagome.

 

“Inuyasha?” Kagome yawned right after she said his voice.

 

Inuyasha wrapped his arms more around her, “Hai,”

 

“Thank-you.”

 

Inuyasha cocked an eyebrow as he stared down at Kagome, “For what?”

 

“For being so gentle with me,” Kagome yawned and snuggled more into Inuyasha's chest as she closed her eyes. Her breath evened out and just because before she fell asleep she sighed, “For protecting me.”
