Chapter Twelve
The Rumour is True
Kagome was beyond confused about the last three hours. Who was that woman? How did she know Inuyasha? Was she telling the truth and was she and Inuyasha lovers? Are they lovers? What are we? Kagome finished tying up her boot and stood up. After the insistent in the parking lot and her miko going a little out of control she needed to train and what better way to train then to ask Sango to be her training partner today. Kagome gave herself a good shake as she walked to her locker. She was going to be in training room seven at the United Alliance. It was known as one of the toughest courses and it had been a good couple of months since she last attempted it.
“Oi Miko aren't you ready yet?!”
Kagome jumped as Sango came around the corner. “Geez girl if you're this jumpy then you're going to get your ass kicked in training.” Kagome smirked as she turned around and rummaged through her locker again. “Kagome what are you looking for?”
“I can't seem to find my badge.”
“What!! Kagome that's not good!”
“Don't you think I know that! Ugh!! I just can't seem to pull it together today!”
Sango gently pulled Kagome out of the locker and turned her around. “Look I know you're really worked up about the thing with Kikyo but trust me she is a bitch and a whore and a… well there isn't really a better word then bitch. Don't worry about her; Inuyasha said that he never even went out with her.”
“But…”
“No. Kagome listen to me I know Kikyo…” Kagome made to interrupt but Sango held up her hand, “I don't want to go into that now or really ever but please Kagome just forget her okay. Inuyasha likes you and he likes you a lot. Kikyo will never come between the two of you and even if she tried I'll kick her ass.”
Sango looked so threatening that Kagome only nodded. Sango smiled to herself as she let go of Kagome's shoulder. “Now let's find that badge.” Kagome smiled weakly and nodded.

Inuyasha and Miroku walked down the street in silence. He liked it that way. Especially after the whole thing with Kikyo that afternoon. Why the hell did she have to come to back! Everything is going so wonderfully with Kagome. I really need to have Kagome with me and I don't even know why yet. And now Kikyo is back and I have to try to get her to leave me alone.
“Inuyasha are you listening to me?”
Inuyasha looked at Miroku and blinked, “Did you say something?”
“I have only been talking to you for the last five minutes.”
“Oh shit sorry man I was thinking about this afternoon.”
“The thing with Kikyo?”
“Wow Miroku for a monk your pretty observant.”
Miroku stopped and looked at Inuyasha seriously, “Look Inuyasha why don't you just tell Kikyo that there isn't anything between the two of you and tell her that you're with Kagome. You are with Kagome right?”
“No shit Sherlock. Of course I'm with Kagome. And if it was that easy to tell Kikyo where to go and how to get there I would. But she doesn't listen. Why the hell did she have to come back!”
Miroku raised his hand to his chin, “Well that is a good question but what I find even more confusing is how Sango seemed to know her. I mean Sango doesn't look like the kind of girl that would hang around with Kikyo and yet the fight the two of them had obviously shows that the two them knew each other before this afternoon.”
Inuyasha crossed his arms, “I don't really care if Sango knew or knows Kikyo. What ever their relationship is doesn't concern me. I'm worried about what Kagome thought about me and Kikyo.”
Miroku shook his head, “My dear friend don't worry about that. Kagome is a smart girl and she could easily figure out that you and Kikyo aren't together.”
Inuyasha growled out in frustration and started walking again. Miroku sighed and followed after his friend, “Look Inuyasha if it is bothering you so much then talk to Kagome.”
“Its not that easy. You heard them today after Kikyo finally left. They were going to be really busy the next couple of weeks because of the Band of the Battles, the new album their working on, and school. I will hardly see Kagome outside of school and at school if I try to talk to her someone will either over hear us or interrupt us.”
Miroku placed his hand on Inuyasha's shoulder, “You'll find a way. The two of you are just meant to be with each other. Its not the most obvious coupling but it works.” Inuyasha raised an eyebrow at Miroku, “Now lets get to that movie before we miss it.”
***
Sorano left the boardroom after two hours of listening to the other team leaders talking about nothing. I wish that I had been training along with Sango and Kagome. That was the most boring two hours of my life. They should be done training by now. Sorano shifted the files in her arms and started to walk towards the training room. Even though she had been an Elite for over four years now she still wasn't used to people saluting her in the halls.
Sorano sighed to herself as the seventh person saluted her. It's this uniform. If I didn't have to wear this thing no one would stop me or salute me or stare at me in awe. If they just worked as hard as I know they could they would be an Elite too. Sorano looked down at herself. The other girls pretty much wore the same outfit as hers but hers had the emblem of the Elite on the left beast pocket. She wore plain black heels and a black suit skirt that reached about three inches above her knee and had three-inch thick silver stripes that ran down both sides of her skirt. She also wore a black tight jacket that reached just below the waist of her skirt. The jacket was by far Sorano's favourite part of the outfit. It didn't have a collar but it had matching silver stripes that started under her jacket sleeve and ran all the way down both sides of the jacket. On her right shoulder was the emblem of their team Sage. On the left shoulder was the emblem of the United Alliance and on the left breast pocket was the emblem of the Elites that Sorano wished she could rip right off. Under her jacket she wore a silver dress shirt with a silver-matching tie.
Sorano rounded another corner and sighed. The hall was filled with the rookies of the United Alliance. The ones that were told the legends of the Great Team Sage and how they were unmatched by any other team. It drove her crazy that the ones that were training the rookies told them such stories. There are so many other things that they could be learning. But no they were told the stories of Sage.
Sorano cleared her throat and smirked at the awed looks on the rookies' faces when they turned around. Okay I guess the look on their faces in something I look forward too but I would prefer that they were not told the legends but watched the legends to learn from our way of attacking a mission. The rookies all backed up to the wall as Sorano made her way down the hall. They all followed protocol and saluted and stayed quiet in her presence but she was a youkai after all and them whispering to each other was bringing a small smile to her face.
Sorano reached training room seven and stood just outside the door. It was half way down the hall and the rookies were still all present and staring at her. “You may all resume what you were doing.”
“Hai Elite-sama!” Sorano flinched slightly at their volume but they all went back to work. Suddenly the door slid open and Sorano was standing face to face with Sango.
“Holy Mother of Kami-sama!!” Sorano jumped back as Sango herself jumped backward and, by the scream of pain from Kagome, landed right on Kagome's foot.
“Well Taijiya I didn't think that you scared that easily.”
“Shut it Haven I wasn't expecting to see you standing right on the other side of the door. Shit! I just had the work out of a life time and then I think I just had a heart attack at the door.”
“Uhmm… Taijiya would you mind stepping in the hall there's a line up building behind us.” Sorano sidestepped the door and allowed Sango and the others out.
Kagome and Sango wore the same outfit that she did. Except that Sango's outfit was a deep metallic rose colour instead of silver and she didn't have the Elite emblem on her left breast pocket. Kagome's was deep crimson red instead of silver but on her left breast pocket was the emblem of the Gild of Miko. It was a very hard emblem to receive and only three trained mikos in all of Japan had ever received one; plus Kagome was the youngest in about five hundred years.
Sango and Kagome allowed the others that were training in the room to leave before they started talking. The rookies and the others rounded the corner and Sango turned to Sorano. “What the hell are you doing down here I thought you were in a meeting?!”
Sorano looked down at her files and then at Sango, “I was in a meeting but it is over now. I came to get the two of you so we could…” Suddenly a loud siren blared down the corridors.
Sango and Kagome covered their ears and over the screaming sirens, that were making Sorano's ears ring, Sango yelled, “WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!”
The sirens dimmed in volume as a clear voice came onto the PA system. “Attention all Agents of the United Alliance. We have a Code 3 emergency. Please make your way to the nearest Holo-Projector. I repeat…” Sorano and others didn't wait for the announcement to repeat the alert before they were running down the hall and into the nearest conference room. Sango reached the door first and kicked it open. Once they entered the room the Holo-Projector kicked into life.
“Holy shit this must be important if Kaeda is making the announcement.” Sorano hushed Sango as Kaeda began to talk.
“Attention all Teams. We have a Code 3 emergency. A high level prisoner has just escaped from holding cell 5443.” Suddenly the full body image of the inmate appeared, “His name is Konala. He is a full-blooded snake youkai from the island of Kauai. He escaped approximately two hours ago.”
Kagome shook her head, “He has one hell of a head start on us.”
“He is noted as a very dangerous youkai with the ability to shape shift and his fangs are extremely poisonous. Team Sage will lead the seek and capture of Konala. Team Sage will be followed by Team Nova and finally by Team Trion. All teams are to leave through Prep Bay 7.” The Holo-Projector went dead and Sorano turned to the others.
Kagome smirked, “You have to love how they ask us first.”
Sango crossed her arms and smiled, “Well you know that we're back.”
Sorano placed her files on the conference room's table and smiled, “Well this is going to be one hell of a welcome back party.”
***
Inuyasha and Miroku left the movie theatre right after the movie. The American movies lost a lot of there appeal when they were translated over into Japanese. Miroku was blabbering on about something but Inuyasha's mind was still on Kagome and Kikyo. Inuyasha just made sure that he `oh yeahed' and `uh-huhed' in the right places so Miroku would think that he was listening. Last thing he wanted was to get into another conversation about the whole topic again.
“Inuyasha do you want to cut through the park. It would be a lot faster.”
“Keh.”
“I'll take that as a yes.”
Inuyasha followed Miroku as they crossed the street and started into the park. The one thing that Inuyasha liked best about living in a city with a high population of youkai was the fact that there were tons of forest areas. This park was one of his favourites. At the end of the park was a little street that was barely used and on that street was a vacant shrine. The shrine was the place that Inuyasha would disappear to for hours on end. It had the greatest tree on the grounds of it and he would spend hours sitting in the boughs of the tree thinking to himself. That tree is like an old friend of mine. Goshinboku the God Tree. I should really go back there and sit in that tree again. I could get the hell away from Miroku for starters.
“So what do you think Inuyasha?”
“Huh?”
“Again you weren't listening to me. I'm heart broken.”
“Keh.”
“I was talking about the Untied Alliance.”
“Oh fuck Miroku not that again!”
“I'm telling you that this rumour is true! The United Alliance is an organization of the best ningens, youkai, hanyou, houshi and miko. They are from all over the world and they track, monitor, and even kill other youkai, ningen, hanyou, houshi and miko.”
“Sure sure Miroku and I'm the son of a kappa!”
Miroku stopped and stared at Inuyasha. “Inuyasha how can you not say that the United Alliance is real.”
“Hhmm… let me think here,” Inuyasha raised his clawed hand to his chin, “Oh I know because it's a bunch of bull shit! There is no United… Holy Shit!!” Inuyasha pushed Miroku back just a something came flying in their direction. Inuyasha looked over Miroku's shoulder as the object came to a stop, in mid air, about thirty feet from where they were standing.
“What the hell is that?!” Miroku looked in the direction that Inuyasha was.
“I have no idea…”
Inuyasha sniffed the air and growled, “A youkai is coming this way. I'm thinking it's a snake youkai.”
“I think you're right Inuyasha. I can feel its youki. Let's hide and see what happens.”
Inuyasha was about to argue but the youkai was coming faster then he thought and there was another youkai that was chasing it. Inuyasha grabbed Miroku by his shirt collar and took off into the shrubs that surrounded the clearing that they were standing in a few minutes ago.

Kagome placed the quiver of arrows on her back and checked her bowstring. Well this is going to help relieve some more of my anxiety. How did that youkai escape in the first place? Rin said that he was a top watched prisoner and he escaped. Kagome walked over to the others. Sango was petting Kirara, her pet fire neko, and Sorano was standing beside one of the two motorcycles that they would be using that evening.
“Miko how is your new armor?”
Kagome looked herself over. She was pretty much wearing the same armor as before but it was a little more lightweight then usual plus her earpiece was a lot clearer. “It's working wonderfully. The earpiece in this is working a lot better then my last one.”
“Good now remember Hojo changed the nano helmets that we will be wearing tonight. Only the three of us and Rin will hear what you are saying. If you wish for someone to hear what you are saying and they are not wearing one of these you must touch your earpiece and then speak. Hojo also fixed the armor so that we will not be giving off a scent. This actually makes Kirara's and my job a little harder when it comes to finding you but it does stop anyone who may see us from catching our scent.”
Sango jumped up onto Kirara and turned to look at Sorano, “Well that's good to know. Now lets get the hell out of here. This youkai has a good three hour lead on us now.”
Sorano nodded and swung her leg over the bike. Kagome touched her earpiece and activated her nano tech to form her helmet. After the light of the nano tech subsided Kagome had the video eye patch over her left eye and was wearing a helmet that covered her whole head and hid her hair. “Okay is everyone ready?”
“Hai!”
Sorano and Kagome started up their bikes. The Prep Bay doors opened and revealed a long concrete corridor. Suddenly Rin's voice filled her right ear, “Okay Sage lets go!”
Kirara roared as she took the lead. Kagome followed right after Sorano as they entered the concrete corridor. The helmets that they were all wearing blocked all sounds of the outside world while they were on their bikes. Kagome grinned to herself. Rin was the one that had the hard job now. She had to make sure that she watched their backs at all times. Of course they weren't going to be lazy or anything but Rin had control of all street lights and cameras. She literally had the control of the cities cameras and she could tap into any one of them at any moment to make sure that they were covered at all times. Plus Rin controlled the helmets. She was able to allow them the ability to hear the outside world, just the ones wearing the helmets or both.
“Sage this is Central Command. I will be launching the remote cameras once you have reached the surface. You will be launching onto 4th and Kauri Street E. I have already rerouted traffic and all pedestrians have to relocated to the adjacent streets. You will be surfacing in approximately 45 seconds.”
“Central Command this is Team Lead what is the location of the target?”
Suddenly a map of East side Tokyo came to life on Kagome's video eye patch. A flashing green dot showed that the youkai was heading down Kauri Street at approximately 42km per hour. “The target is weaving in and out of traffic. He has yet to cause an accident. I am working on getting the traffic out of the way but so far I have not been able to. I will therefore be controlling the lights. They will be green. Resurfacing about to commence.”
Kagome revved the engine as the incline began. They would be resurfacing inside an underground parkade. Kirara and Sango would resurface first and immediately head for the skies. Kagome and Sorano would follow the map on the video eye patch and track Konala through the city streets.
The ground shook softly as the bay doors creaked open. It was night out and all lights were off in the parkade. Sango and Kirara were the first through and they were gone before Kagome and Sorano reached the top of the incline. Kagome leaned forward and went full throttle. She and Sorano launched themselves out of the corridor and onto the smooth pavement of the parkade. Sorano took off into the parkade closely followed by Kagome.
“The parkade is three levels. You both entered from the second level. Make the first left and up the ramp.” Sorano swerved to the left and up the ramp closely followed by Kagome. “Now go right after the parked red SUV and that will lead you to the exit on 4th and Kauri St. E.”
Kagome rounded the red SUV after Sorano and saw the exit. As far as Kagome could tell there was no traffic on the road just as Rin had said. Sorano gunned it and launched herself out of the parkade. Kagome leaned forward and followed suit. The minute the two of them were out of the parkade the front of Kagome's bike lit up. Four orbs of black material shot off of Kagome's bike and sped off in front of her. Kagome watched Sorano's bike as it did the same thing.
“Remote Cameras Launched! Haven, Miko you two will be tracking the target from the ground. Taijiya you and I will be tracking the target from the air. Haven! Miko! Central Command Out!”
Kagome grinned to herself. She may not like to drive a car but she sure loved to track on a motorbike. Kagome glanced at her video fed and saw that the target was still heading straight down Kauri St. Kagome gunned it and caught up with Sorano. They were about to enter the traffic that Rin couldn't seem to clear. Sorano glanced in Kagome's direction and nodded once. Kagome revved her engine in response. Now its time to play cat and mouse.
Sorano shot forward and veered to the left as she started to weave in and out of traffic like a black and silver streak. Kagome released the clutch and shot off to the right. The traffic was still pretty heavy for this time of night and not to mention that it was a Monday night. Kagome weaved between two cars and saw the red light approaching. Rin said that she had the lights covered. You can't stop Kagome. This is the target you are chasing.
Kagome swerved out of the blind spot of a truck and shot through the lights just as they turned green. Kagome saw Sorano for a second before she was back into the traffic and covering the left side of the road. Kagome glanced again at her video feed and smiled. They were less then a block and a half away from their target. This youkai must not be very smart. He had a three-hour head start on us and we are already catching up to him. This just doesn't seem right…
Kagome pulled herself out of her musing as she narrowing avoided a compact car as it cut her off. Kagome weaved in and out of traffic for the next block and as she approached the next lights they turned green as well. Nice work Rin. Kagome reached the intersection and crossed over to the left. The target had turned at 6th and was now heading towards Tokyo central park.
“Miko we have to step on it. He hasn't changed shapes yet and if he does the tracer will lose sight of him for a few seconds.”
“What! I didn't think that that would happen to the tracer.”
“It's not something we broadcast and Hojo has been working on that glitch for almost a year. Anyways I need to get his scent and you need to sense his youki so that when he does shape shift you can still caught him.”
“You got it Haven!”
Kagome glanced at her video feed and cursed under her breath as the target had entered the park but was now slowing down. “Haven Miko this is Central Command the target has now moved into the park. Taijiya is going to intercept the target. You two are to get to her aid as soon as possible.”
“Hai!”
Sorano shot forward and jumped the curb. Kagome followed suit as she entered the park. At least no one is around. They were all in that traffic that we hit! Kagome noticed that her tires were slipping on the cool grass so with a smirk Kagome touched a little white button on her left handle. The bike lowered for a moment as the nano tech changed the tires to off road quality tires.
“The remote cameras are in place. The fifth camera had picked up the presence of two beings in the park. However they took off and the camera can no longer see them. Taijiya has made contact with the target.”
***
Inuyasha watched from the shrubs with Miroku. The scent of the snake youkai was getting stronger and so was the scent of a neko youkai. Why would a neko be chasing a snake youkai? I can sense that the snake youkai has a higher level of youki then the neko but still it chases the snake. Suddenly the scent of the snake youkai was so overwhelming that the fine hairs on the back of Inuyasha's neck stood on end.
A huge roar broke the silence as two things happened almost at once. First, from the right, emerged the snake youkai and then, from the sky, attacked the neko. The neko landed on the snake youkai and for only a second Inuyasha could of sworn he saw a flash of pink leap off the neko. However the neko only hit the snake in the shoulders and they both rolled. The neko was the first one on its feet as it bared its fangs and hissed at the snake.
Inuyasha couldn't get a good look at the snake because by the looks of the youkai it was wearing some sort of cloak. From right behind the snake came two flashes of light and the roar of an engine. What the hell!! The lights got brighter and suddenly two motorbikes came crashing through the trees and stopped about six feet away from the snake. On one bike sat someone who was dressed in black and red armour and on the other bike sat someone dressed in black and silver armour. I have never seen armour like that before and why the hell can't I smell them?
The two figures leapt off the bikes and started to walk towards the snake youkai in a circling pattern. The neko was still blocking the snake youkai from escaping and the others were closing in. Inuyasha almost yelled out as a figure dressed in the same armour, only theirs was pink and black, jumped out of the trees right overhead of him and Miroku.
“Konala you are here by arrested and ordered to return with us. If you do not will be forced to take you back with us by using any means necessary. You have escaped from prison within the United Alliance and now we are here to take you back.”
The voice sounded as if it was computerized as to hide the identity of the figure in silver and black. Inuyasha glared at Miroku when he elbowed Inuyasha in the gut. “I told you Inuyasha. The rumour is true!!!!”
