Chapter Fourteen

The Chase is On!

 

Kagome still had an uneasiness flowing around in the back of her mind. Granted it had been a battle to get Konala to finally come with them but something was still not right. Kagome watched as Team Trion cuffed and took Konala away. How come it was so easy to catch up with him? He had easily a three-hour head start on us. But he was about six blocks from the exit of the parkade.

 

<Miko what's wrong you seem worried?>

 

Kagome looked away from the van that would be transporting Konala and turned to see Sorano on her left. <Don't you think it odd that he had such a huge head start on us and yet we caught up with him so quickly?>

 

Sorano raised her hand to her chin causing Kagome to almost laugh. She looked so weird rubbing the chin of her helmet as she thought. <Miko I didn't really think about that until now…>

 

Sango finished talking with Team Nova and came running over to them. <Well everything seems to be in order. Konala will be taken in and Kaeda has been informed. It seems that if we wish to speak to any member of Central Command we must leave the shrine grounds.> Sango cocked her head to the side as she looked at Sorano. <What's up?>

 

<Didn't you hear what Miko just said?>

 

Sango looked from Sorano to Kagome. <Should I have?>

 

Kagome sighed in frustration. <Right the communication system is short range only within the shrine grounds. We could talk to each other but not anyone that is to far away.>

 

<So that's why Team Nova was asking me so many questions about what had happened.>

 

Sorano lowered her hand, <How is Inuyasha and Miroku?>

 

Sango shrugged, <As good as they are going to get. Nova is still trying to get a hold of their Central Command to figure out what we are going to do with them. I say we just modify their memories so that they don't remember tonight.>

 

Kagome shook her head, <It's not that easy. Modification only works on people of weak minds. So that means that most ningens are susceptible to the modification of ones memory. But because of Miroku's spiritual energy and Inuyasha's inu bloodline it makes modification a waste of time.>

 

<Okay then what do you say we do? If we leave it up to the be head wigs at Headquarters who knows what they are going to do to them.>

 

<Taijiya has a point. Well they still haven't left the grounds so we don't have anything to worry about that yet. They have to check in with me before they leave anyways.>

 

<Haven I think I'm going to go and see them. Maybe you can talk to Taijiya about what we were talking about before.> Sorano nodded as Kagome walked towards the well house. I can't believe I'm back; the last time I was here I was in my United Alliance uniform and we were getting ready to move to the States. I still don't like being here after everything that has happened but like Sango said, I don't really have a choice.

 

Kagome reached the well house before she knew it. As she got closer her communicator kicked in and she started to hear half of the conversation that Team Nova was having.

 

<I don't like having those citizens under our care. What are they doing here anyways? They shouldn't be here and now we have a lot more paper work to do and I have an advanced Biology class to teach first thing in the morning.>

 

<Haven is the one that brought them in so there has to be a good reason. She wouldn't just bring citizens into this battle if they hadn't seen something. Plus with them being a houshi and a hanyou we will have to be extra careful around them.>

 

<I agree with you Luc. Their safety is our number one concern right now. As for you Geisha I wouldn't worry about your class tomorrow. You teach college students and the class is at eleven in the morning.> Both Luc and Geisha looked up surprised as Kagome came closer. Both bowed and stepped out of her way.

 

Kagome reached for the handle of the door and slowly slid it open. Inuyasha and Miroku were both standing in the corner of the well house and by the looks of it they had stopped talking the minute she entered the room. Kagome slid the door closed behind her and touched her ear pierce as she walked down the stairs.

 

~ “I am sorry that you have to stay here. It would have been wise to leave the clearing the minute the houshi sensed the youkai or the minute you smelt it Inu-hanyou.” ~

 

“My name is Inuyasha. Not Inu-hanyou.” Inuyasha crossed his arms and glared at Kagome. Relax girl he doesn't know its you. If he did he wouldn't be getting mad at you right now.

 

~ “Well Inuyasha you and the houshi are to stay here until we figure out what is going on.” ~

 

Miroku took a tentative step forward, “I thought you beat that snake that you were after. Doesn't that mean that we are going to be let go.”

 

Kagome crossed her arms and shook her head, ~ “I am sorry houshi but you and Inuyasha are to stay here. Another problem as come to light and we must take care of it. You two will never leave the sight of an agent. Once we have figured out this problem we will figure out what we are to do with you.” ~ Kagome didn't even wait for them to reply. It was taking everything within her not to turn around and tell Inuyasha that everything was going to be okay and she was personally going to make sure that nothing happened to them. Of course that would mean that she would have to tell the two of them the whole truth. Inuyasha is not ready for this part of my life. I'm sorry Inuyasha but please just be a little bit more patient. We'll figure it out.

Inuyasha waited until the red one had slid the door closed before he turned back to Miroku. “Well that went well. At least the girls are willing to talk to us. If that green one comes in here one more time and just stares at us I'll kick his ass.”

 

Miroku sighed as he leaned against the back wall. “As much as I would love to see that happen; if you attack one of them then we would have to fight them all. I just wish we knew what was going on.” Miroku smiled to himself. “Those girls are really something in battle.”

 

Inuyasha just shook his head. They had snuck up the stairs and watched the battle through the windows in the sliding door. Of course the neko blocked most of the battle, as she wouldn't let them stand right at the door. Inuyasha didn't know what it was but he really liked the neko. She was brave and there was just something about her that was different.

 

The neko was currently curled up on the ground in front of the well. When the pink one came in she must of said something to the neko because the neko stood down. Now they were playing the waiting game. Patience is not one of my strong suits and hey let's add to the mix that I have no fucking idea what is going on. If I missed Kagome's call I will seriously hurt someone.

 

Inuyasha walked away from Miroku and made his way to the neko. Inuyasha knew that the neko knew he was there by the ear twitching in his direction. “Hey neko mind some company that isn't babbling like a baka.”

 

The neko opened one eye and meowed softly in the back of her throat. Inuyasha took that as a yes and sat down beside her. They sat in silence for a time as Inuyasha absentmindedly stroked her head. This is not the way I pictured the rest of my night going. I really wonder what Kagome is doing. Kagome. What is it about her that drives my youkai blood crazy?

 

Inuyasha closed his eyes and let his mind wander. Suddenly Inuyasha felt something that he hadn't felt since the first day of school. Inuyasha's eyes flew open and he sat up quickly. The neko behind him growled deeply as she got to her feet.

 

“Inuyasha!” Inuyasha stood up as Miroku ran to his side.

 

“Yeah I know Miroku. We're not alone anymore.”

Kagome sighed as she walked away from the well house. She spotted Sorano and Sango sitting on the fence that lined the Goshinboku. They had removed their helmets' facemasks as they talked openly. Kagome made her way towards them and Sango was the first one to spot her.

 

“So Miko how are our guests doing?”

 

Kagome stopped in front of the girls and sighed. She reached up and placed her hand over her own facemask. The nano-tech activated to her touch and they reseeded so that Kagome's mouth, nose and chin were now showing. “I think they wish us all bodily harm but so far they are listening to us. And I think more then anything that Miroku is having the time of his life.”

 

Sango laughed, “Yeah that hentai would be having fun. He loves gossip more then most women that I know. And now is getting even worse because one of the rumours that he has so passionately been talking about for four years is true. I kinda feel sorry for Inuyasha.”

 

Sorano nodded her head, “Yeah I think that Inuyasha is going to end up attacking Miroku and that is the another battle that we are going to have to fight tonight.”

 

Kagome crossed her arms and looked up into Goshinboku, “So girls what do you think of my question from earlier?”

 

“Well I think that you have a good point. Where did Konala go to when he could have been putting as much distance between him and us? He must have met up with someone.”

 

“Taijiya is right. This guy must have met up with someone and if we could make contact with Central Command I would have Innocence looking up the info on him right now.”

 

Kagome opened her mouth to response but suddenly felt the presence of a youkai. No a lot of youkai. There were coming right at them.

 

“Miko?”

 

“Haven we need to get out of here. Now!”

 

Sango jumped up and looked around the shrine. “What's wrong Miko?”

 

“Youkai. Lots of them. They're all heading in this direction.”

 

<Haven! Haven!> Sorano turned and looked towards the well house. Luc was running flat out towards them. <Kirara is sensing something and I think that the hanyou smells something as well. They are saying something about youkai coming this direction.>

 

Kagome looked at Sorano. She looked like she was deep in thought. “All right everyone listen up. We need to get out of here and fast. This is a neutral zone. If the people of this area see youkai attacking then they will call the police.”

 

Sango crossed her arms, “Great the local law enforce. That is the last thing we need right now. Okay Haven what's the plan?”

 

Sorano smiled, “Luc I want you to tell the others that we are heading out. Your team must get to the United Alliance and get us back up…”

 

<But we could all go with you.>

 

“Listen to what I'm saying. We will need more back up then just another team. I have a feeling that Mystic is somehow involved in all of this now,” Luc took a step back, “Now get us our weapons and once we leave the shrine track us down and get them to us. We will be heading to the out skirts of the city. We'll be able to fight whole heartedly out there.”

 

Luc nodded and ran off to the rest of his team. Thank Kami-sama that Sorano is senior agent out here. They have to do what she says. Kagome watched as the three members of Team Nova took off down the shrine stairs.

 

“Okay girls we need to get the guys and get the hell out of here. Taijiya I need you to get Kirara and head to the new construction site that is near Yoyogi Koen Park. That should be far enough away from a neutral zone that anyone living in that area would not call the local police.”

 

Sango nodded in agreement. “Miko you and I will be taking Inuyasha and Miroku with us. At least if they are with us we won't have to worry about them being attacked if we leave them here. Plus they won't get away and we can still figure out what to do with them.”

 

“I agree Haven. Let's go!” Kagome turned and ran towards the well house. Kagome was getting antsy now. The youkai are moving in! We won't have enough time if we don't leave now!

 

Kagome pushed her way through Sango and Sorano and slid open the door. Kirara was already standing in front of Miroku and Inuyasha. Good job Kirara. Kagome went to speak but remembered that Inuyasha would recognize her voice. Kagome reached up and placed her hand over her face and the nano-tech activated again. ~ “Inuyasha and houshi we are leaving!” ~

 

“The youkai are getting very close and I can sense their malice.”

 

Sango stepped forward and was about to speak but Kagome quickly stood in front of Sango. Sango looked at Kagome funny. <They may not be able to smell us but they can recognize our voices!>

 

Sango and Sorano nodded as they activated their helmets. Sorano walked forward and placed her hand on Kirara's head. ~ “The youkai are coming here because of the snake youkai. You two will be coming with us as we leave the shrine. I must warn you both that they will be following us. Once the other teams arrive you will be going with them. Until then you will be doing as we say without question.” ~

 

Inuyasha and Miroku nodded. <Taijiya its time. Take Kirara and lead them to the Yoyogi Koen Park. Aim for the construction site that is on the other side of the park.> Sango nodded and turned to Kirara. Kirara meowed as she quickly rubbed her head against Inuyasha before running up to Sango and following her out of the well house.

 

Inuyasha crossed his arms and stared at Sorano, “Well what do you want us to do?”

 

Sorano shook head. <This is going to be a longer night then I originally thought.> ~ “Follow us!” ~ With that said Kagome and Sorano turned around and took off. Kagome glanced over her shoulder and saw that Inuyasha and Miroku were right behind them. Well at least they can run. And again Miroku looks like he is having the time of his life.

Inuyasha couldn't believe how fast they were running. They cleared the stairs in no time and were across the street and back in the park in minutes. I hope we aren't planning on running all the way to where ever it is that we are running too. Miroku looks like he is getting a little tired. Inuyasha glanced sideways at Miroku again. He was breathing a little heavier then usually but he was keeping up with their speed rather nicely for a ningen.

 

The girls leapt over the shrubs that lined the clearing that they were in about an hour ago. Inuyasha and Miroku leapt as well and then Inuyasha grinned. The bikes! Of course they left them here when we left the last time.

 

The red one ran to one and the silver one ran to the other. ~ “Inuyasha you will be riding with me.” ~ The red one said as she swung her leg over the bike and started the engine.

 

~ “Houshi you will be with me.” ~ Miroku nodded and headed towards the silver one. Inuyasha ran up to the red one and climbed on the back of the bike. He gripped the sides of his seat as she shifted gears into first.

 

Suddenly she reached forward and grabbed something. Inuyasha didn't see what it was but immediately she turned around and placed something on his forehead. “What is this?” The red didn't speak as she tapped the item twice. Holy Shit! Inuyasha was temporarily blinked as a white light engulfed his head.

 

When Inuyasha opened his eyes he gasped. He was wearing a helmet. The visor must have had some sort of night vision because he could see everything as if it was day. <Inuyasha the helmet you are wearing will allow you to speak to me whenever you like. It will also hide your identity from the youkai that are going to be chasing after us.>

 

Inuyasha was about to reply but the red one revved the engine and took off. Inuyasha wrapped his arms around her waist as she quickly changed gears. The silver one took the lead as she and Miroku exited the park and launched themselves into the street. <Uhmm… what do I call you?>

 

They veered to the left as the silver one turned left on the red light. <You can call me Red.>

 

<I take it that's not your real name.>

 

<No one who works for the Alliance uses his or her real name. It is protect our identity if someone who is after us sees our face.>

 

Recklessly they cut off a truck as they followed after the silver one. Inuyasha gripped onto Red more tightly as they started to weave in and out of traffic. Inuyasha looked up and noticed that the light that they were heading for was red. Inuyasha waited for her to slow down. The light was getting closer and if anything they seemed to be going faster.

 

Inuyasha was about to yell out when the light changed green just as they reached the stop line. What the hell?! Are they controlling the lights? Inuyasha looked ahead and saw that Miroku was death gripping the silver one and had his head pressed to her back. Keh! What a baby! He is missing the ride of this live. Inuyasha didn't know why but for some reason he totally trusted Red and her driving abilities.

 

<Miroku is such baby.>

 

<Miroku?>

 

<Yeah the one riding on the back of the silver ones bike.>

 

<You know Inuyasha it is not nice to call people names when they can hear you.>

 

<Miroku?!>

 

Red laughed softly, <He can hear you as well. The two of you are on the same frequency. So whatever you say he can hear.>

 

Inuyasha smirked and then yelled out as Red took a corner sharply, causing Inuyasha to tighten his hold on Red.

 

<And you say I'm the baby.>

 

<Shut it Monk.>

Kagome trailed after Sorano as they flew down the streets of Tokyo. So far Kagome couldn't sense the wasp youkai that were after them. <Haven I think that we are going to fast. I can't sense the youkai that are suppose to following us.>

 

Sorano revved her engine as she narrowly missed a truck that turned at the lights. Kagome hit the brakes as she did a 180 to avoid hitting the truck. Kagome ignored the blaring horn, Miroku yelling, and Inuyasha cursing as she waited for Sorano to response.

 

<Central Command this is Haven do you read me?>

 

Kagome yelled out as she was temporarily blinded as her video eye patch came to live. Kagome sighed in relief as the green map of Tokyo's South side came to life. <Haven. Miko. This is Central Command we have you back on tracking.>

 

<Excellent but there has been a change in plans. Inuyasha and Miroku are now travelling with us.>

 

<I guessed that when two new helmets were activated. I am monitoring the helmets now. Inuyasha and Miroku will only hear each other and when you wish to speak to him you must press the red button on the right handle of your bikes. That will switch you between frequencies.>

 

<Understood. Where are the youkai that Miko was sensing?>

 

<They are currently following Taijiya. She is leading then to the construction site. I have cleared the roads once you get past Hamano St.>

 

Kagome looked at her map and noticed that they were only three more blocks away. Once they reached that street they would no longer have to worry about traffic. Kagome pressed the red button on her handle. <Inuyasha it is going to get a little bumpy. The roads are cleared once we reach Hamano St.>

 

Kagome could feel Inuyasha nod his head. <All right.>

 

Kagome punched the gas and launched herself forward as Sorano once again picked up the speed. The traffic was slowly getting thinner and thinner. Kagome looked at her map again and saw that they had to make the next possible right. Kagome grinned to herself. Leave it to Rin to actually have the street blocked off.

 

Sorano reached the light and drifted through the right turn and straight through the fake construction signs that blocked the majority of the street. Kagome laughed quietly as she heard Miroku cheering as they cleared they corner. Kagome once again activated the link between her helmet and Inuyasha's. <I think that they are trying to show us up.>

 

Kagome smiled when she heard Inuyasha laugh. <Well we can't let that happen now can we.>

 

Kagome punched the brake as she sharply turned the handle bar. She quickly switched gears and held the clutch as she started the drift. She held her speed as they drifted straight through the small opening in the construction signs. Inuyasha cheered as she pulled out of the drift and shot forward to catch up with Sorano.

 

<Nicely down Red!>

 

Kagome was about to response when suddenly she was overwhelmed by youki. It was as if it was raining down on her. Kagome removed her finger from the link and called out to Sorano, <Haven we have company! The wasps are in the area. Taijiya where are you?>

 

Suddenly Sango's voice filled her helmet, <I am almost at the construction site. How can the wasps be that far behind? Kirara and I have so many on our tail right now!>

 

<Taijiya. Miko, we need to meet up. Taijiya double back to us. This is going to be tricky but it needs to be done.>

 

<Haven you want me to bring the youkai that are following me to you?! Are you crazy?! At least on Kirara I can fight but you both have Inuyasha and Miroku with you. They could be hurt!>

 

<I agree with Taijiya on this one Haven. We can't risk that.>

 

Sorano gunned it again as she sped further ahead of Kagome and Inuyasha. <Listen there isn't any other opinion that we have. Either we are together all as one or they will end up picking us off one at a time. We are almost at the construction site and Central Command has cleared all the roads. If we have to make a stand we will have the best chance if we are together.>

 

<Sage this is Central Command I am getting a reading on the wasp youkai. They are just like the ones that attacked us at school. They must be being controlled by a more powerful youkai. Their flight pattern is to perfect. They will be on top of you in less then three minutes.>

 

<Taijiya get to us now!>

 

<Hai!>

 

Kagome quickly touched the red button again. <Inuyasha I have some bad news. We might not be making to the construction site before the youkai attack. What ever happens don't let go of me.>

 

<All right Red.>

 

Kagome smiled to herself. At least I know that Inuyasha will be safe. I will protect him with my life. Kagome gripped her handles a little tighter as she sensed Sango's and Kirara approach. They must have double backed. Kagome glanced over her shoulder and saw Kirara and Sango making their descent. Kagome gasped as she saw the first signs of the wasp youkai. They were coming in a large swarm. The sound of insect wings beating filled the empty street. Kagome felt Inuyasha hold onto her more tightly as Kirara and Sango came to fly right beside them as they sped along the street.

 

Kagome didn't know what to say. They had all become silent as they waited for the wasps to catch up. On the map in her eye patch Kagome could see that they were less then 10km away from the Park. Once they hit the park they needed to drive for another 7km before they hit the construction site.

 

Kagome tried her best to make sure that her miko was in check. Last thing she needed was for it to flare out and harm Inuyasha. It was different with Kirara and Sorano for they had trained to with stand some of her weaker out bursts.

 

<Sage this is Central Command your weapons are in the construction site awaiting you. There is also a transport waiting there to retrieve Inuyasha and Miroku the moment you arrive.>

 

Kagome gasped, <What are they planning on doing with them?!> Kagome could feel her heart pounding in her chest at the thought of the United Alliance harming Inuyasha.

 

<Not to worry Miko. Kaeda said that they would just be held until Team Sage returns to Headquarters. Kaeda said that they are our responsibility and therefore we are to choose what is to be done with them.>

 

Kagome let out the breath that she didn't even know that she was holding. <Thank Kami-sama.>

 

<Sage! Incoming!>
