Chapter1-Black is the Deepest

“Aw c'mon Auntie Kaede! Tell us a story!” begged one of the children.

“She's not your aunt.” Commented another.

“Just tell us a story.” Said others in unison.

Poor Kaede gave into the pleads and cries of the children gathered around the elderly priestess.

Kaede-All right, all right children. But as soon as I do, ye must promise to go home to yea families, it will be dark soon and I don't want any of ye getting caught by demons of any sort.

The children agreed and quietly sat down beside the woman as she began to tell her wonderful tale to the eagerly awaiting children of the village.

Kaede-It is said that long ago, that there were 10 beings created from different elements of earthly elements from the only 5 black diamonds that existed at the time, for black diamonds are extremely rare and now only 6 exist in the entire world. Their names and powers were…

All of the siblings lived in bliss harmony, at least with each other. Merciless demons created from darkness, their hearts were as black as the diamonds that they were created from. Though no one knows just how they were created, not even the demons themselves knew.

One day while pillaging a defenseless (to their powers) village with many riches, Midoriko happened to be the priestess in the village. Naturally the girl was upset with the demons, rather than taking on the 10 of them she hoped that her words of compassion would be heard. None of the demons listened except Kisho (the eldest of the 10). He listened carefully to the miko's words, but she soon retreated back shortly after finishing realizing that if she fought here, the villagers would be in harm's way. Kisho found the miko both intelligent and to speak words of truth despite the hatred his siblings felt for her.

Wandering through the village they picked up the scent of the trail that Midoriko took to retreat from the demons. The younger 9 plotted on how to kill the miko, simply because they found her to be a bit of a nuisance. Kisho decided not contradict his siblings for put together the other nine were more powerful than even the great Kisho. So they sought out Midoriko in a cave a ways off from the village, praying and meditating to train her powers. Midoriko sensed their presence and rose from her humble position, poised to attack at a second's notice.

Nami-Back off Miko! We want you dead!

Raidon-You've been meddling in our affairs for too long!

Umeko-And you've corrupted the mind of our dear eldest brother!

Kisho didn't even ask, everyone knew he had some sympathy and pity for her, telepathy or without, it was obvious, because he hesitated to act around the miko. Suddenly, the other 9 demons lunged forward to attack, and their attacks were quickly thwarted by one whisk of Midoriko's hand. They hit her with their most powerful attacks, but the soon realized that it was futile. `How powerful can she be?' Thought Kisho, `It's only a matter of time until she annihilates them.'
