Chapter 14-Last of Your Kind?

A/N-Here's a decently long one. Okay so I make it look like Kayoko's having some mental problems, but she's not she's just trying to control her demonic nature, like Inuyasha does when he can't battle w/the Tetsusaiga (dude I so do not know how to spell that, tell me if it's right). So just 2 get that straight…enjoy!

Inuyasha ran over to Kayoko screaming…

Inuyasha-Kayoko, are you alright?

When he arrived at her, he tried to get her breathing again by getting her onto her back. That didn't work, so he was going to do CPR when luckily she woke up. Her hair turned back to her normal amber color, her teeth were human, her normal nails had returned and when she opened her eyes, they revealed to Inuyasha their normal emerald state. She began rubbing her head and moaning.

Kayoko-Ahhhh, what are you doing Inuyasha?

Inuyasha realized that he was holding her in his lap ready to do CPR, so being Inuyasha, he quickly pushed her off his lap and on the ground, with an embarrassed look.

Kayoko-Uh, what was that for?

Inuyasha slightly grunted but still not replying Kayoko's question. Kayoko looked at him with a confused look, and then a smirk slowly crossed her face as Inuyasha's was still turned the other way. Kayoko slowly crept behind him without him noticing and then gradually shifting all of her weight onto her knees her head rose up behind Inuyasha's with her hands in attack mode ready to strike. As Inuyasha slowly looked back in front of him, he realized that Kayoko was no longer there. Just as he was turning his head side to side to look for her, she attacked.

Inuyasha was laughing immensely, as Kayoko was tickling the hanyou all over his abdomen in an attempt to make him talk.

Inuyasha- (Laughing) Stop… Kayoko…I'm… not… ticklish…any…more!

Kayoko suddenly stopped tickling him, and folded her arms down in solemn reverence. Inuyasha was surprised at this and looked around at her spiritual position. He put on a confused look and closed his eyes, but just as he did, Kayoko opened her eyes and started fidgeting with the hanyou's dog-ears. Inuyasha growled to the sight of her tugging on his ears.

Inuyasha-What are you doing?

Kayoko-I just remembered just how much I missed playing with your ears every day.

Inuyasha-Well, if you went into Dog Demon form, you could play with your own ears.

Kayoko-Yeah, but it's not as fun playing with my own ears than yours.

Inuyasha growled again as she continued playing with his ears.

Inuyasha-Will you stop that?!

Kayoko giggled with satisfaction at making him a little angry, to Inuyasha's surprise, this wasn't his expected reaction. He remembered how she giggled, how it was so full of love and happiness. Much like Kagome's laugh, only she did it more often. Kayoko always seemed to be happy, no matter what the circumstances, unless she was talking about Nianna. Inuyasha also loved her smell, the scent that hadn't changed in over 58 years, her scent that forever smelled of Jasmine flowers. Like the one he'd given to her for her birthday so long ago. Inuyasha awoke from reminiscing to find Kayoko staring back at him, still smiling… always smiling.

Inuyasha-Kayoko, so about you. What's a Red Wolf Demon? I mean, how are you different from Koga?

Kayoko-Well, first of all, when I go into demon form I've got red hair. No other kind of wolf demon has bright red hair in demon form. Second, well red wolf demons naturally have more power than other wolf demons right off the bat from birth. So I'm stronger, faster, and all around a better fighter than Koga.

Inuyasha laughed at her last comment and was very satisfied with that.

Inuyasha-Do all wolf demons know about Red Wolf Demons?

Kayoko-You know, it just depends on what they've heard about other tribes. Where they've been lately, stuff like that. But I'm sure Koga knows what Red Wolf Demons are, we're legendary.

Inuyasha-What do you mean by legendary?

Kayoko-You know, there aren't a lot of us left, and well some assume that we're just legends. Creatures that prowl the forest at night looking for little demons to eat, you know, stories parents tell their kids as bed-time-stories to get them to go to sleep.

Inuyasha-So exactly how many are left?

Kayoko-Me.

Inuyasha-YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE LEFT!!??

Kayoko-I don't know, I've never seen another one.

Inuyasha-So how do you know that there aren't many around?

Kayoko-I assumed, okay? My father was in a pack that was slaughtered while I wasn't with him, so I thought that was the only pack and there weren't many of them around anyway! I'm very rare you know!

Kayoko suddenly realized how loud she'd gotten and lowered her head and closed her eyes in deep concentration. As she did a Sakura blossom fell off of the tree. The wind blew it into Inuyasha's lap and Kayoko opened her eyes. Inuyasha looked at the flower and thought of the beauty such a tiny thing beheld.

Inuyasha-You know…I never did realize what you meant about not becoming the flower that you're expected to be, because I never thought about it…until now.

Inuyasha lifted Kayoko's chin up with his hand and looked at her face that only a few minutes ago beheld a loving smile, but now, eyes of sorrow and a mouth full of sadness and no words to express it. Inuyasha gazed deeply into her emerald eyes as pools of his emotions, only now they held nothing but love, care and devotion. He leaned in to place a gentle kiss upon her lips, but she carefully placed her hand between her lips and his.

Kayoko-Inuyasha…I don't want to ruin what you and Kagome have.

Inuyasha still with his eyes closed remembered a girl when he heard the name. `Oh, yeah Kagome. How could I forget about her? What am I doing? Is this what I wanted? Is this why I cared so much when Kayoko left? Because I thought that something could happen between us?' thought Inuyasha to himself.

Inuyasha opened his eyes to see Kayoko standing up and looking down upon his surprised face.

Inuyasha-Thanks Kayoko. For helping me not betray Kagome.

Even though Inuyasha thought that this was best for him and Kagome, he really wanted something to happen. For Kayoko and him to have a moment where everything else could fall away and they could always have those few seconds to go to, when the world could be so cruel. A world to get away from demons, the Shikon Jewel shards, and Kagome.

A/N-Plz don't hate me b/c I made Inuyasha like Kayoko! Sorry but that's the way it goes (rotten fruit soars over my head) ok so maybe I could make a few changes, FAT CHANCE (I get clocked with a huge honeydew melon)…crap. This is not what I mean by daily amount of nutritious food! Don't hurt me…Next time on The Soul of a Hanyou…The Jealous Sea.
