Kagome had forgotten one of her school books at Kiade's. She would need the next day, so she made her way through the bone eaters well to retrieve it. When she crossed over she found InuYasha propped up against the well with a depressed look upon his face. His hoari was covered in blood.
“Kagome…” he said startled to see her.
“InuYasha what's wrong?” she asked concerned. “What happened to you?”
“Akira's dead…”
“What?! How?!” she asked shocked, but some how relieved the blood was not his.
“Kagura returned to finish her off.” InuYasha could not keep eye contact for very long with Kagome. He did not want her to see his tears. “I think they are burying her body as we speak.”
“She was severely injured…” Kagome began. “She shouldn't have been traveling alone.”
Anger began to flow over InuYasha. He knew Kagome's words were true and somehow he blamed himself for the death of Akira. “We are leaving now.” InuYasha said angrily. “We are going to find Naraku and kill him.”
“InuYasha…” Kagome started to remind him that she couldn't go. But seeing his face and determination she continued on, “okay let's get the others.”
Back at the village Miroku was praying over the freshly dug earth. Sango, Kiade, and Shippo stood by saying little prays of their own. They saw InuYasha and Kagome approaching them. InuYasha stayed several feet away from the grave and shouted to them that they were leaving.
Sango and Miroku quickly followed InuYasha as he turned walking away giving them no time to argue. After grabbing their weapons from the hut the group set out to find Naraku. There was a very long uncomfortable silence among the group as they walked. Kagome and InuYasha were in front and Kagome held Shippo in her arms. Miroku and Sango traveled a few feet behind them while Kirara sat upon Sango's shoulder.
“Do you think that InuYasha went back to get Kagome?” Sango suggested.
“I am not sure…” Miroku replied. “I know he was very upset by her death.”

The next day the group began to expect this time searching for Naraku to be exactly like before. They would be searching for months before ever finding him or one of his incarnations. It was early in the morning and the group had already begun to travel before the dew had started to dry. The path they traveled through an open field soon arrived at a forest.
The forest appeared to be very old and over grown. The path itself was almost impossible to make out because it had been rarely used by anyone. InuYasha pushed everyone to cover more ground he was determined to find Naraku as soon as possible. But the group soon came upon something that startled them all.
Up ahead of them lying directly in the over grown path was a body. InuYasha was quick to make his way to check it out. The others soon picked up their pace to catch up to him. They found him standing over a dead body of a boy. The boy had long white hair and was dressed in white. He had one deep wound in his chest where his heart should have been.
“It's Naraku's son!” Miroku said shocked.
“Your guess was right Miroku. This boy did have the rest of the jewel shards and Naraku needed them.” InuYasha stated.
“Without part of the sacred jewel he's not as powerful.” Kagome added.
“We have to find him quickly!” Sango said as panic overcame her. “If he's willing to take back the jewel shards from his own incarnations then I am sure he will take the one that gives Kohaku life.”
A gentle breeze blew and Naraku's scent filled InuYasha's senses. “Looks like we are not going to have to search very far.” InuYasha said peering off into the shadows of the forest.
An evil laugh rang out from the shadows and Naraku appeared in his baboon pelt. “You have perfect timing InuYasha…” Naraku removed the head of the baboon pelt and stood staring with an evil grin on his face. “I will get the rest of the jewel from you and then there will be no way for you and your petty friends to stop me!”
“Where is Kohaku?!” Sango yelled.
“Don't worry Sango…” Naraku said pleased by Sango's worry and heartache. “Your little brother is still alive.” At that moment Kohaku appeared from out of nowhere by Naraku's side. He turned his eyes to the boy, “Kill her.”
Kohaku's eyes where lifeless and cold as he made his way through the air above their heads and stood staring down his sister. He stood ready for battle, his blade in hand. Sango pulled her weapon from her back and stood ready. She pleaded with him to remember who he was…who she was, but it was no use.
InuYasha was about to make his way over to assist Sango when his keen senses picked up danger. Kagura had sent her blades of wind towards Kagome. Kagome tried to draw an arrow to fire at the blades of wind and subdue them, but she was in such panic she failed to notice the root behind her foot and as she shifted her body to fire the arrow she fell back. InuYasha jumped to her picking her up and jumping out of the way. Meanwhile Miroku joined Sango trying to help her.
InuYasha put Kagome down and she stood behind him. But with all their attention focused on Kagura they failed to notice Kanna approaching from behind. She started drawing out Kagome's soul and Kagome quickly fell to the ground with a thud.
“Kagome!” InuYasha shouted as he grabbed her up into his arms once again and tried to get her out of harms way. Kagura then became relentless in her attacks and InuYasha sent a backlash wave at her. But she was quick enough to move before it struck her.
Meanwhile Sesshoumaru and Elandra had been traveling on the out skirts of the forest. The ground began to tremble and several hundred yards away they could hear the trees snapping and falling from the impact of the backlash wave.
“What could that have been, Lord Sesshoumaru?” Jaken asked curiously.
“The backlash wave.” He replied in under his breath. “InuYasha.” He gave a glance over to Elandra and the two of them took off to check it out. Jaken stayed behind with Rin.
