Chapter 3: An annoying stranger and a surprise at work.

Rin walked into the bar, tried as hell. It had been an exhausting day at work, and she wanted a drink real bad.

“Hey Jak! String me up!”

The bartender, turned around and grinned at her, “The usual?”

Rin nodded and collapsed on the stool.

Jakoutsu handed her the drink and asked sympathetically, “Bad day at work?”

Rin smiled wanly, “You can say that. It started off great. I met an old friend and we had lunch. It was after lunch that everything went wrong.”

Jakoutsu wiped his hands clean with a cloth and smiled at her, “Do tell.”

That was all the encouragement Rin needed.

“Well, when I came back, there was message from my boss's secretary that I had to deliver 3 piles of paperwork to the main office. I did it and came back. Then after like five minutes, that bitch told me to come into her office and forbade me to use the elevator. I had t then walk all the way to her upstairs which also happens to the 9th floor. There she yelled at me because someone had spilled coffee on the paperwork. I mean what the fuck! She was the one who did it not me! I mean, I applied for a job here as an assistant, not the receptionist! My credentials were excellent but my asshole of a boss gave me the most fucking job there is. I mean Kagome has a better job than me!”

Jakoutsu clucked his tongue in sympathy. Suddenly, a velvety male voice came from beside Rin, “A martini please.” Rin glanced at her new companion and gasped silently.

A silver haired hunk with gorgeous amber eyes and pointed elfin ears was sitting beside her. Without acknowledging her, he asked, “Where do you work?”

Rin stared at him, “Are you talking to me?”

The stranger looked at her disapprovingly, “Of course I am.”

Rin then tilted her head, “None of your business.” With that she turned back to her drink.

The stranger was about to say something when her cell phone began to ring.

She picked it up.

“Hey Kagome. . . Oh yeah….. No. I was at a bar…. No, just having a drink…. Oh, Sango told you?..... Yeah her name is Kagura. She's the boss's secretary…..I know. Tell me about it…..You might meet her soon. She' dresses like a total slut…..No…..Rumor is that she got a job at Sleazy, to get close to him. She likes rich men…..What can I say?.......No, forget it…. I was gonna start looking for a new job anyways……Are you kidding me. They'll just hire a new receptionist. …Yeah. See ya!”

She put the phone in her bag and turned towards her drink. Jak, looked at her, “You're not seriously thinking of quitting are you kiddo.”

Rin sighed, “What else is there to do? I'm just wasting my talents here. I'll get a job in a newspaper or something.”

“But hon, there are very strange men out there. You can't seriously considering….”

Rin stared gloomily at the counter, “Then, what do you suggest I do? Work here?”

Jak grinned, “Now there's an idea. Plus, you'll be closer to your home, this way. You won't have to wake up at four in the morning and walk for two hours.”

Rin still had a glum look on her face. You're right. I'll think it over tonight, and then maybe hand in my resignation tomorrow.”

Jak smiled. “You do that.”

Rin sat in brooding silence till the stranger to her right spoke up, “May I have your name miss?”

Rin looked at him, and was about to retort when she thought, `What's the harm?'

“Rin.”

“Where do you work?”

“Why? You want to stalk me?”

“A simple question.”

“Whatever. I'm outta here.” With that she put down her drained glass and walked away muttering something about `nosy assholes', loudly.

He chuckled. He knew that she knew he was a demon and still insulted him. Slowly he frowned. Some how, he didn't exactly like this girl working here. He absently put down some money and walked out of the bar leaving behind his unfinished drink.

He hardly knew this human and yet he somehow did not like the idea of her leaving his magazine, over exerting herself and most of all he hated the fact that she was unhappy. He didn't know why though. Looked like he was going to need to have a talk with Myouga.

Rin walked into the building desperate for a glass of water. Rushing to the cooler, she poured herself a glass and let the cold water relieve her throat. Just then, Kagura, Seshoumaru's secretary came up behind her. She was wearing a deep low cut top which was see through and a tiny miniskirt. Kagura was a haughty wind demoness who was intent on seducing her boss. And this was no secret.

“Seshoumaru wants to see you.”

With that, she turned around and walked towards the elevator. Shocked, Rin gasped and let the information process through her brain, and then sighed. She would go up and see what he wants and then she would hand him her resignation.

Determined, she walked towards the elevator and pressed the button for the tenth floor. In minutes she was standing outside Seshoumaru's door. Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, she knocked on the door. A familiar voice spoke, “Come in.”

Rin entered the office and made for the desk. Her boss sat in the chair, facing the large window behind the desk. She could not see him.

Summoning up her courage, Rin said, “I know you called me sir, but I was going to come and see you myself because I want to hand in my resignation.”

“No.”

Rin stared at the back of the chair in bewilderment.

“What?”

The smooth reply was, “I do not accept your resignation. You will continue working for me.”

At this point the chair swirled around and Rin gasped loudly because in that seat sat the same guy, who was at the bar yesterday.

“Its you……”

Seshoumaru remained undaunted by her accusation.

“I have gone through your credentials and have decided to promote you to my personal assistant. You will go through paperwork and tend to all five sections of the magazine and if I need anything, you will get it for me.”

Rin nodded mutely.

“Then please get to work right now. Call in my secretary.”
Rin went to the door and called Kagura. The poor girl was still in a daze when Kagura walked in smiling seductively at her boss, “You called sir?'

Seshoumaru remained unfazed by her advances and his eyes remined locked with Rin's as he said, “Miss Ikati is now my personal assistant, so give her a briefing as to her seating arrangements.”

Kagura nodded angrily and scowled at Rin.

She left and Rin was about to follow when Seshoumaru said, “And Rin.”

Rin turned around, and saw Seshoumaru sitting in his chair looking at her.

“Get dressed at 6. I'll pick you up from your apartment. I don't want you walking to work and don't even think of working in that bar.”

Rin nodded stunned and walked out.

Seshoumaru merely smiled.

A.N.: sorry for the late update
