Chapter 4: A shock for Rin I

Kagome sighed for the 100th time, swinging in her chair. Inuyasha glared at her, irritated.
“What's wrong now, wench?”

“Nothing dogboy.” Was the snotty reply.

Inuyasha shook his head and bent his head again, muttering something about whiny bitches. Kagome ignored him, as she had been doing for the last five days. Since she had joined the magazine in its finishing term, only articles that had to be re-edited were now sent to the office and since Kagome had finished with her pile a week ago, she was bored.

Ever since their new start, Inuyasha had been indifferent to her. He was not much of a social person, which Kagome didn't really mind as she wasn't really a people person, especially after what had happened back home. Just thinking about it gave her the shivers.

Inuyasha looked up as a new scent hit his nose mingling with Kagome's sweet jasmine scent. Sniffing the air, he realized that it was a little fear and somehow he didn't like it. The girl was oblivious to his actions, lost in a daydream. Picking up the small cushion from the couch, Inuyasha aimed it at her head and threw.

“What the fuck!?”

These were the first words that popped out of Kagome's mouth, as the cushion made impact with her head. Picking it up from her lap where it had slid to she glared at Inuyasha and threw it back at him, missing his head by an inch.

Inuyasha stared at her and chuckled. “I didn't know you had it in you Hirugashi.”
Kagome's glare intensified as he continued, grinning, “You just cursed. You're a pottymouth.”

“Why you!”

Seshoumaru shook his head as his delicate ears took in the sounds of his brother and the wench arguing. He glanced at the dark haired girl who was currently seated on the couch, her head bent as she went through some papers. She had been working for a week and Seshoumaru was amazed how her mere presence just soothed his frayed nerves. She was quiet and polite in his presence and slightly distant, something which he did not like. He yearned for the feisty girl who told him to mind his own business in the bar. To his dismay, she hadn't even taken his offer to pick her up and drop her at her apartment. Normally, he wouldn't care what she thought, but she outsmarted him, she left way early from her apartment and would sit in the park a block away from the office. And she always left for her apartment, hitching a ride with someone.

Rin looked up to ask Seshoumaru something, when she saw him looking at her. Even knowing that he had been caught in the act, Seshoumaru could not shift his eyes from those deep brown questioning ones.

“Um, Takahashi-sama? Is something wrong?

Seshoumaru shook his head in disgust when he realized that he had been starting at her like a love struck puppy. Get a grip on yourself!

Then he saw that Rin was waiting for an answer, so he blurted the first thing that came to his mind, “Have lunch with me today.”

Rin was sure that she hadn't heard him correctly. “E-Excuse me?” she stammered out, blushing furiously. Seshoumaru raised a delicate eyebrow, “Something wrong with your hearing today, Rin?”

Forgetting that she had been blushing like an idiot, forgetting that the an sitting in front of her was her boss, she opened her mouth angrily, “Just who do you think you are!?”

Suddenly realizing what she had just said, she clapped her hands over her mouth in her horror, while Seshoumaru looked on in amusement. His amusement vanished however, when he saw tears gather in her eyes, “I'm so sorry! I had no right! It just slipped out of my mouth! I didn't mean to! Honest!”

Seshoumaru jumped out his seat and strode towards her, putting a hand on her mouth effectively silencing her. “Rin, it's all right. I'm not offended. I deserved it. I was rude.”
Rin looked up at him, wide-eyed and teary, “You mean it? You're not mad? You won't fire me?”

Seshoumaru was stunned as to how delicate she looked. She looked like a lost child who had suddenly found hope.

Instead of devouring her lips like he felt like doing, he smirked and said, “Like I said Rin, is something wrong with your hearing today?”

Rin immediately felt better at his attempt to lighten the situation. Rubbing her eyes, to evacuate the trace of tears she smiled shakily and asked, “Um, so you were saying something about lunch?”

Seshoumaru suddenly felt very light. Going to his desk, he pushed on the intercom button.
“Kagura. Bring up my usual, double order and an extra chair.”

Kagura's husky voice replied, “Will there be anything else you require, Takahashi-sama? Anything at all?”

Seshoumaru replied in a cold voice, “That will be all.”

Switching the intercom off, he sat down and looked at Rin who was standing awkwardly twisting her hands together.

“Rin, you might want to sit down. You look as you're about to have a breakdown.”

“I do not!”

As soon as this came out of her mouth, Rin slapped her forehead furiously and bowed apologizing.

“I'm so sorry, Takahashi-sama.”

“Rin.”

Rin looked up at Seshoumaru lounging in his chair.

“Shut up.”

“Of course.”

Rin shut up and sat down on the couch. Seshoumaru grew highly displeased as the aura around her grew into one of misery and despair Rin's head was bowed as she thought miserably, I just can't keep my mouth shut! He'll probably fire me tomorrow or maybe even today, during lunch.

Getting angry, Seshoumaru got up and was about to go up to her when suddenly he felt deep lined misery. Looking towards Rin, he saw her aura reaching out to him. Without thinking he extended his hand towards it. It was dancing a seductive dance, beckoning to him. He was nearly there when…

“Takahashi-sama. Your lunch is here.”

His secretary's husky voice came through the doorway. Rin jumped up just as Sesjoumaru broke from his trance. He quickly withdrew his hand and barked harshly, “Bring it in.”

Rin winced at his tone, and Seshoumaru immediately regretted it. Kagura entered the room, with a tray in hand. She was wearing a white silk top which was stretched tight over her large breasts. Her first three buttons were open giving more than enough view of her cleavage. Her tight miniskirt left nothing to the imagination. As she bent down to put down the tray, she practically displayed her ass. Rin made gagging faces, behind her back. To her horror, at that very moment Seshoumaru turned around and looked at her curiously. Then understanding dawned on him, and he bit back a chuckle. Rin was acting like a child.

Blushing Rin bowed her head muttering something that even Seshoumaru's ears couldn't catch. Kagura turned around seductively and grew furious when she noticed Seshoumaru's eyes centered on the blushing assistant. With a huff she left the office, angrily.

“Rin. Sit down.”

Rin obeyed and Seshoumaru sat down himself. Looking down at her meal, she opened the box and a delicious smell wafted from it. Inhaling the mouth watering aroma, Rin snuck a glance at Seshoumaru who was already half way through his food. Cautiously, Rin poked a fork in the chicken and vegetable ramen.

“Rin.”

Rin looked up immediately.

“What's wrong?”

Rin blushed, stammering, “N-nothing Takahashi-sama.”

“Seshoumaru.”

“Huh?”

“My name is Seshoumaru.”

With that he resumed eating his lunch. Rin looked at him bewildered. Did he want her to call him Seshoumaru?

“Um, Takahashi-sama?”

Seshoumaru ignored her.

“Takahashi-sama?” This time a little louder.

Seshoumaru still continued to ignore her.

Finally unable to take it any longer, Rin got up angrily and slammed her hands on the desk. “What is your problem, Seshoumaru!?”

Seshoumaru looked up from his meal, “You said something, Rin?”

Rin flexed her hands, angrily. Closing her eyes exasperatedly, she asked in a quiet voice, “Will you be needing anything, Takahashi-sama?”

Seshoumaru looked at her pointedly but Rin caught his gaze refusing to be intimidated. Suddenly Seshoumaru chuckled. Already aware that he would probably fire her any moment, Rin did not expect his response. “The only reason I hired you was because the first time we met you had the gall to insult me. I liked that fire in you, so if you act so humble, I'm going to fire you.”

Rin stared at him in shock as Seshoumaru turned his attention towards his nearly finished lunch.
