Watching as the last of the students and teachers leave, except for Kagome's friends and their dates, Inuyasha breathes a sigh of relief. About to take off his mask, he is halted as Kagome shakes her head.

"Why not?" He mutters under his breath and as she motions to those who are cleaning up behind her, unaware that one of them was listening. He laughs at the thought of them, trying to keep the secret and looking towards the others, they simply smile for they too heard the commotion.

"Should we tell them Eri?" Jinto asks of his girlfriend.

"We can't do that Jinto!" The young woman replies. "Your father would kill us!"

"True, but it was his idea to protect them when they were in this time...." Tsukasa comments, as Ayume, hands him a punchbowl.

As the other four talk it over with one another, Yuka and Akira watch the couple, and smile warmly as Inuyasha pulls on Kagome to bring her closer to him.

"That is so romantic...." She smiles softly and with feeing.

Akira chuckles at her comment as they watch. His arm going around her shoulders, he looks at her softly as her eyes flash a different color, but only for a moment.

"Time to cast a masking spell again..."

"Already?" Yuka pouts as she watches and snuggles into his arms. It's strange as she thinks about it, that Kagome never full realized why a lot of demons never went after her in her own time. Like those that she and her friends have destroyed, she has wanted what Kagome had embedded in her body, but as she got to know her, she realized that she would not harm anyone with its power. So she left her alone, and eventually thanks to Kagome she met Akira, the love of her life.

Akira, a descendant of both Kagome and Inuyasha's friends from the past, as she and Jinto are the children of two others. Their job according to their parents was to help keep Kagome safe in this time. So they had enrolled in the school and eventually met Ayume, Akira, Eri, and Tsukasa along with her....the one whose future they hold in the balance, as she holds theirs.

Their powers are strong whenever they are together, and to help with the spell by lending Yuka their strength, Eri and Ayume are never too far behind. Both girls although human, had learned of Yuka's secret, entirely by accident. It seemed that when the spell, had started to fail, and her eyes and features became more pronounced, the girls had taken action, and she had been able to draw upon their strength to hold it together.

After that little incident, the three girls talked and Yuka, eventually confessed to being what she was despite her mother's wrath. But the two girls smiled and embraced Yuka with all their heart. After conferring with Yuka's mother, and Jinto's father she and the girls came to an agreement. Normally the spells lasted longer, but as Kagome's powers began to grow...the time would be shorter and shorter, for the spells to last.

They figured out along with Jinto and the two other boys, what they must do. Because of their heritage, Yuka and Jinto must retain spells masking their demonic features for up to and at least nine hours a day. As long as two of the other four were around them, they could do it. Or in some cases as long as Akira was around, it could be redone....

Finding out Akira's family tree had been interesting to say the least. He had transferred in from another school and for some reason, was a enigma to all the girls. One minute he would be flirtatious and actually a little grab happy upon her person, but the next minute he would listen and fight with her against any and all odds.

The real bonus was in his spells and chants that he had learned. They had originated with an ancestor of his, who was the self same Miroku that Kagome traveled with when she went through the well. A strong although lecherous monk, Miroku was indeed powerful and it seemed that his power was once again in his descendant.

As she and Jinto were the children, of demons, Eri and the others were descendants of the villagers who had lived during that time. It seems a promise was made, a series of recorded scrolls were handed down from one family to the next of these men and women, who had agreed to protect the secret of the Shikon Jewel and its eventual rebirth in the Twentieth Century.

In it were specific details and things that must happen no matter what that would bring a then fifteen year old Kagome Higurashi to the past. The main one being, get the cat into the well house....

She giggles at the memory as Eri had snuck over early that morning, and placed a trail of kitty treats leading from the door to the house, which the cat promptly followed. Once there she had left a small pile and promptly locked the cat in there.

Eri had to then hide only seconds later for she had heard the first sounds of Kagome's brother Souta waking up. She almost gave their plan away, but it worked. They watched as Kagome and her brother came towards the well and went inside only to have Souta run out seconds later, telling how his sister got pulled by some monster into the well and disappeared.

Still things had gone smoothly. Every so often they would walk by and check the grounds of the temple to make sure no demon has passed it to try and get at Kagome and well those who had be unfortunate to try...had met with a terrible end.

Turning around as the others approach, she smiles as they begin to leave.

"BYE KAGOME! BYE INUYASHA!" They wave and yell hearing their farewells returned. Walking towards a series of cars, they eventually begin to separate with much reluctance from one another.

"See you at school Akira?"

"As always Yuka..." He smiles as he bestows a soft kiss upon her lips. Opening the door, for her, she glides in next to her mother, as Jinto honks the horn for him from their car.

"Good night Yuka....Good Night Mrs. Tanaka."

"Good night Akira." Smiles the dark haired woman, she watches as Akira joins Jinto in another car, and as he leaves so do they.

"Did you have fun baby?"

"MOM! I am 450 years old I am so not a child!"

Kagura Tanaka chuckled softly at her daughter's outburst. "So unlike your father and definitely more like your uncle...."

Glaring at her mother, she waves by as Tsukasa hops into the car with Eri and Ayume, smiles on their faces and such...she wonders sometimes....

"I wish we could tell her Mom...I wish we could tell Kagome and her family, that we were related to them....."

"I know but until they finish the jewel...we must wait...."

I know a little off the beaten track, but my brother made a point....how come Kagome doesn't get attacked more often in the present.....maybe because her friends are more than just friends?
