When the sun broke, Hizumeha gently woke the sleeping Akanesuji with a push of her shoulder. In total silence he hand signaled to her that something was in the trees and he had smelled it. In the same hand language she replied that all she smelled was squirrels and rabbits. In a really soft whisper she admitted that since she had gotten pregnant, her nose was not quite what it should be. He understood somewhat and urged her to gather her stuff and get ready to go.

“Did Sesshoumaru follow you?” he asked her later as they traveled down the dirt road. She said she did not expect him to come this way so soon. Sesshoumaru was not the kind to spy as it was too beneath him, and would not want to visit her too early in the season. It would make him look needy and that was just not his style.

Sesshoumaru could hear them perfectly and was glad she had miscalculated him.

At a fork in the road the ox and cart was left along with Akanesuji's horse. Grabbing several long spears, the two headed out alone by foot. They did not speak, but used the quiet hand signs to communicate.

It was when the two reached a large cave that Sesshoumaru started to panic at what his love had planned. Letting her mouth fill with poisons, Akanesuji licked the spear blades so that they were covered and deadly. The horse demon snuck into the mouth of the cave first, closer to the right hand side, followed by Akanesuji on the opposite left. Sesshoumaru was stuck. He could only sit and wait. If he went in after them, he risked being discovered. If he didn't go in, Akanesuji could be in danger. He had to trust her to know what she was doing. He just had to.

It didn't take long before Hizumeha came out first in a fast backward run, his spear pointed towards the cave's hole. Growls and violent shouts could be heard, Akanesuji barking out orders and attacking “kiya” energy yells. Hizumeha turned and threw his spear several yards away and held his arms out to his sides. “Come on you weak ass bastard! Come out and fight demon to demon!” He taunted what ever beast was in there, beckoning it to attack him as he stood without weapons.

The rocks started to rumble and out came the creatures head. It was a fully mature boar demon, a very strong one at that. It's forehead scraped at the top of cave's entrance as blood ran down it's forehead into it's eyes. The light of the cave temporarily hurt it's vision, though not blinding it. From behind the creature Akanesuji could be heard rounding it up like a cow cut from the herd. She poked and prodded it in it's flanks to get it to move from it's protective home.

“Why fight me!” the boar demanded. “I will kill you and eat you for lunch!”

“I have nothing against you old man,” she yelled, “except that you have jewel shards in your ass and I want use of your cave.”

The giant pig lunged at Hizumeha as planned and the horse was fast to move out of the way. Dive rolling over to his spear he picked it up in one swift movement and planted himself with knee on the ground and spear butt planted firmly. If the boar went forward again, he would impale himself on the long poisoned blade.

Akanesuji had her chance now, taking a running jump from behind the beast now that it cleared the cave, pulling her wakizashis from their sheaths before landing firmly on it's shoulders near it's neck. Planting one deep into it's neck as a handlebar, she quickly licked the other again and rammed it in as well. The boar screamed and roared in pain, crashing to one side and trying to roll his massive weight onto the inu in human form.

Sesshoumaru could not see her when she went underneath him, but he could tell by the way it's head cocked oddly that she had done something brutally lethal. Regrabbing her short swords with crossed arms, she had pulled the blades together and past one another, severing the spine of the beast and cutting a third of it's head off. Blood gushed everywhere in a tidal flood. The head thrashed up and down and side to side for a few moments, feet kicking out for some unseen enemy. When the giant boar stopped moving, Akanesuji lifted it's head off of her and with a single blade hacked several times below it's jawline until the skull came clean.

Lifting it above her, blood and cerebral fluids gushed down over her in a fountain. She howled a victory cry and licked her lips. Shaking her head she splashed blood everywhere. Drips stained it's rough coat. The horse demon stood and shook his head, like he had gone through this ritual before. “You can be so disgusting my lady.”

“Wimpy ass herbivore,” she heartily laughed out. Dropping the head to one side, and letting it roll a little, she wiped her face with a sticky hand which only just put stripes into the blood against her white flesh. “Get over here and help me.”

Taking her knives, she climbed over it's thighs and started cutting until she found the jewel shard lodged in it's muscle. With nimble hands she slipped it into her obi and began skinning the animal for it's hide. The horse took to hacking it's hooves off and throwing them into a pile. Once the skin was rolled up, she ordered Hizumeha to retrieve the cart so they could load their booty.

This too was a ritual of theirs, something that they had done over and over together. When he was not there, she would find the demon's liver and eat it, knowing it would gross him out to see her do so. Sitting on it's head, she munched at the liver voraciously. It tasted so good this time around, and she figured it had something to do with being pregnant.

Akanesuji rubbed the place over her baby, telling him out loud to grow strong on the gifts of their enemies.

The ox cart was overloaded, but Akanesuji only stacked it up higher with it's tusks and smaller teeth. When it was as good as it was going to get, Hizumeha helped pull in front of the ox. She stayed behind and hacked the rest of it to pieces, burying the chunks in many separate graves. She spent time praying over her work, asking that the boar's soul go to a happy Nirvana.

Sesshoumaru was quite impressed with her skills, except for the “putting herself in danger” part. He really could have done without that.

On the walk home, the blood dried and she reeked. When they got to the village's edge, it didn't seem to matter though. Children ran from everywhere to see her and hug her legs. “Akanesuji!” they squealed, or “She's here! She's here!” Adults ran to help with the cart, male demons and humans alike pulling boar parts off to carry them to the blacksmiths' workshop. “Is Totosai here?” she yelled out to them and they all nodded yes. “Good!” she declared. I want two new wakizashis from it's tusks. Give my old set to who ever wants them of highest rank.” Figures scurried around her, people of all species and breeds bowing and welcoming her home. When a pregnant human approached with a bucket of fresh water and a gourd sipper, she was quick to drink and thank her. She politely ordered her to get her bath ready and the woman was more than happy to serve her.

Everything fell into place in a natural, orderly fashion, as if everything had been deliberately planned. Everyone knew their jobs, their places and the schedule. Sesshoumaru noted to himself that she knew exactly what day she would come home, at exactly what hour and with exactly what things. She was far more organized than he ever expected.

He watched her as she entered a small bath house which had women and children running about. They brought out her ell suit and immediately had it washed and hung to dry. Her boots, her obi...everything came out to be cleaned. When Akanesuji reappeared, she wore a copy of the same outfit, the eel, the shoes, the obi, except this time she was clean. Stately she walked up to a platform the small town used for theater and sat on the large pillow that was provided for her. It elevated her above all those who lined up around her. The entire village all sat to listen, this meeting planned for some time. Respect and admiration oozed from them for her.

When the formal greetings were all finished, she immediately went into what she was there for. “My people, everything is on schedule. In two nights time we will be using the cave and tunnel system of our neighbor's castle to take it over. The land to the north will be ours. Men, you will take wives and spread your seed. Women, you will pick your husbands as you like. You are all warriors here and will reap the rewards of your service.” The women nodded and smiled, liking the idea of having a choice in their futures. “You will bring forth the next generation of shinobi and train them up in our ways. Adopt their children, just as I have adopted all of you.” Every head nodded in unison.

“Remember my people, we will spare no evil thing. We live in the buffer lands with no great lord to protect us. We must do it ourselves. I have taught you the way of the blade. With our victory over the lands to the north, we will have one fifth of the free lands under our control. I promise you twenty years of peace and prosperity in exchange for your service!”

All of the people stood and applauded. They cheered her name. She made hand signals for them to sit, and quickly, orderly, they did so. She demanded obedience and got it. Kindly she dismissed the children to play and quickly got to business. A servant handed all of the letters from the cart and she went though careful tallies of the food stores, who had married who, who had died over the winter, who had gotten sick and other such things. She took requests for betrothal, promoted some soldiers up while cross-promoting others and sent some older orphaned children to live in differing homes. Sesshoumaru was astonished to hear just how many orphans were there. There were two large barracks full. Akanesuji promoted some of the younger children to the older barracks and then started into her letters. They were accounts of orphans all over Japan who were in need of homes, and she ordered various adults to retrieve them once the hostile take over was finished.

The inu spy had heard enough to understand that his lover and wife had not entirely given up on her long term goal. She had lied to him, or at least, vastly misrepresented her plans. Taking long jumping bounds he backed out of the town's wood line and started traveling back to the boars' cave to see what kind of trouble she was getting herself into.
