Kagome set Shippo down and shook her head. Rin shouldn't have run down the halls screaming “stupid dog”. Now his lordship would be upset and she hoped that he wouldn't take it out on her and InuYasha. Today was a joyous day and she didn't want it spoiled with anything.

InuYasha got that feeling of trepidation too. He looked to his bride warily and grabbed her up. “No matter what he says, just try to ignore it. It's worked for me in the past.”

Kagome poked him in the ribs and he flinched, setting her to laugh and giggle.

They told everyone they'd be back to help with Akanesuji as soon as they could and headed down the short trip down the hall to his chambers. They sat side by side, and in fact, they could have taken the private door between the two large rooms, but thought it better to take the more common route.

Sesshoumaru sat before a hip height statue of a dog demon spirit, the kind that normally came in a pair and sat before a gate. Before it burned incense and there were fresh cake and saki offerings. InuYasha had never thought his brother particularly faithful, but he was always learning something new. Apparently Sesshoumaru worshiped their ancestors faithfully.

Either that or he was pleading for divine assistance.

“Sit.” commanded in that familiar voice, resonating with power and a hint of venom. The hanyou looked to his wife and the two took to their shins a respectable distance behind him. Sesshoumaru gracefully turned with simple movements over the tatami mats. It looked almost practiced, like something a geisha would do. Kagome marveled at how beautiful and graceful it was.

He was wearing a simple and clean pure white garment, his hair combed perfectly to fall down his back. It almost touched the floor. Moko-moko-sama was piled up on his futon and InuYasha was careful not to look at it. Even knowing it was in the same room made him want to twitch. To hide this fact, he bowed, placing his forehead over his hands and Kagome seeing him do it, mirrored him.

“Rise.” Sesshoumaru said, not allowing his pleasure in that act seep into his speech. The two sat back up, placing their hands quietly in their laps. Everything was formal, as it should be.

“Congratulations, brother.”

“Thank you.” InuYasha nodded a shorter bow this time, hiding the small smile under his mass of hair.

“I have a gift for you.” With slow beauty the older youkai lifted and took metered steps to a low chest on the longest wall. A key sat on top of it which was used to unlock it. Reverently it was opened and a familiar mantle of fluff was pulled out. “Do you recognize this?”

InuYasha had a hard time speaking. “It's father's.”

“hn.” It dragged the ground, larger than Moko-moko-sama and doubly tailed. Sesshoumaru walked up to InuYasha and took to his shins before him, almost touching knees. The hanyou felt like he was going to burst, his heart suddenly racing and his eyes dilating. His brother intended to give it to him and there would be no greater honor. His hands shook in his lap, his right hand trying to hold down his left.

Sesshoumaru laid it across his own lap and with his clawed hand he reached out to his brother's collar and pulled back the shirt, exposing the bite mark over his shoulder. With his index finger he ran over the mark and watched the hanyou stiffen into panic. The boy was confused before his new wife, not wanting her to know about the mark. Clearly he had not shown it to her yet. Sesshoumaru's eyes glint.

“Do not forget whom you serve.” Sesshoumaru instructed, then laid the mantle over his shoulders, letting it fall around him. “Father would have wanted you to have this. It was his grandfather's, as mine belonged to the father of our father.” He looked over to the miko who only beamed with pride. For such a smart and talented warrior, she could be so damned dumb. Had she not seen him play over the bite that marked her mate?

“Don't fuck it up.” he said, raising to a stand and turning his back to them.

InuYasha understood the double meaning in that. Moko-moko-sama's aren't for fucking. He blushed.

“Now you look like a proper inu prince, which is good. I'm sending you to the Southern Provence to retrieve Akanesuji's sisters. Before we chased Naraku, she had a desire to send for them.”

“Her sisters?” InuYasha asked, rubbing the fluff in small strokes. He didn't want to rub it all over his face in front of his brother and look like a total idiot.

“Yes. They have been staying in the Southern court. This will be a wonderful opportunity to practice your diplomacy skills. You should be back in a month, just in time to do army recruiting across the land. Then in spring you and your little hunting party can start looking for jewel shards again.” Evilly he grinned to himself. Separating the new little love birds would certainly be entertaining. Two or three months of them apart would allow him time to fuck with the miko in front of his wife.

“You have my life all planned out for me.”

“Such is the life of a lord. Get used to it.”

InuYasha didn't say anything but nodded. He would not give up now. Not when he had a new wife and a home, his brother's growing respect and his father's mantle.

“You are dismissed. Be prepared to leave in the morning.”

“But we're getting married by the monk in the morning.” Kagome whined.

“Then you shall leave the next day.” Sesshoumaru waived his hand around dismissively, shoo-shooing them out the door. When the two rose and started out, he called InuYasha back, ordering Kagome to go on. He told her that InuYasha would be along in a moment. When he was assured she was down the hall by the sounds of her feet, he turned to his brother and laid his chin on his shoulder as he stood behind him. “Oh, by the way. I decided on your adult name.”

“Oh?” the hanyou squeaked, feeling his brother's strong chest against his back. Sesshoumaru pet the thick white fur that fell near his face.

“You will remain Yasha. I think your mother was on to something when she named you demoness. It suits you.”

The hanyou swallowed hard, feeling those fingers over the shiny silver bite scar on his shoulder once again. It was when he felt Sesshoumaru's hot breath on his ear that he squinted his eyes together and bit his own bottom lip. “Now...Yasha...leave my presence.”

InuYasha didn't have to be told twice. Grabbing tight at the white fur that fell around him, he shuffled out the door scared of the monster his brother had become.

Scared of the monster that was inside him.

He sat outside Akanesuji's door, his sword over one shoulder and his new mantle over the other as Kagome spent time inside.

He pet the mantle and sniffed it deep. It too had that heavenly smell...the smell of every inu, the smell of the clan.

He wondered when it would learn to move, to be a part of him.

He wondered why it was so much bigger than Moko-moko-sama.

Curling it around his neck he laid his head back into it and closed his eyes to nap. There was nothing better to do and the fur was so inviting.

Dreams of white skinned inu bitches filled his mind. Lean legged, firm bodied women covered in stripes, nipping and barking and yipping playfully at him. They blinked their big yellow, green, blue and brown eyes at him. They giggled and ran in the warm summer grass, throwing a ball between all of them.

“Yasha!” they called out to him, beckoning him to play. “Come, Yasha! Come with us!” The women turned to dogs, all pretty, all wagging their tails and bounding around. “Come on, Yasha!”

He tried to reach out for them, but they would only playfully yip and run ahead of him. When he started running hard after them, it seemed like they were all falling into a tight pack, bounding between trees and rocks. It was the spirit of the clan catching him up and taking him on a spiritual journey. Male dogs joined their run. “Never forget you're a dog,” they told him in comforting whispers. “A dog,”

“Dog” he mumbled as he slept in the hallway. “Dog.....dog”.

His journey was cut short by a blood curdling scream, a cry of pain that made him forget the enticing women and the hard running pack. It cut through his tender ears like nails on a chalk board and made them lay flat. Turning around and looking in the door way, he saw Akanesuji lay crumpled naked on the floor. She had fallen out of her bed and was panting hard.

Blushing, Inuyasha turned around to see Sesshoumaru standing near. He had appeared in a flash of brilliance and with narrowed eyes was looking on her wretched frame.
