Standing at the edge of oblivion, that's what it felt like. I hated it. I trusted so many yet rarely have I been trusted. I guess should have known, I'm not like everyone else. But I never acknowledge it; I refused to; so I wore a facade that fooled all but one. My mother; she always knew something was wrong. Whenever she wanted to talk I said I was fine, that she was imagining things.

She would persist, saying memories never failed her and she knew what she saw. I never understood her, later I would wish I had taken the time to. Like now; she had some how known about him.

She knew he was hurting me, that my resolve was slowly cracking. Every insult, every time I found them together; I had refused to admit and cry. She kept telling me there was no harm in it. But I had too much pride, or as most would say, I was too stubborn to admit to what was in front of me.

I can't hide from what I see now; it's not just me seeing it this time. My best friend; we had agreed to train me how to fight and was in the middle of a lesson; when we heard something near by. Looking to her now I see the regret and sympathy in her chocolate depths. She wishes that we had never checked out what we heard, but in this ancient day one can never be too safe.

My heart screamed "How could?!" Even though my mind knew and was only waiting for this day.

~*You had been forewarned, your mother and I both warned you little one. Just in our own ways,*~ said a woman's voice within my mind. Being to busy with other things I disregarded the voice and who it was for the sake of getting away from here. `I had hoped-`

~*What? That he would take you instead of her?*~ I couldn't believe it, I was being ridiculed in my own mind. ~*For heaven's sake child, you not even her reincarnation!*~

I stopped breathing for a moment as what the voice said sank in, `I'm not?' I had once prayed I wasn't, but as time passed I was glad I was; but now, I didn't know what to think. The woman sighed and gave an agreement with my thought.

~*It's something that now is not the time to explain, we have a situation on our hands here.*~

Regaining my ability to breath I note my friend, of whom I call kin staring at me with concern. Sighing I whisper, for her to return to the village that I would follow soon. Nodding in understanding she grabbed Hiraikotsu and heading for the village near by. I took one last look at the scene before me and felt my anger rise and followed by depression. There was only one thing I could do.

So with my mind set I walked away toward the old well. I glanced at the forest around me, knowing it would be a while till I would return. Taking a deep breath I braced myself on the lip of the well, ready to jump in. I screamed the one word I knew would hurt him and hopefully her.

"SIT!!" My hopes were granted when as I felt the magic of the well surround me I heard the female's cries and I animalistic howl of pain.

I quickly climbed the ladder and reached for one of the ofuda I knew was in the old well house and sealed the well from passage as my mother had taught me to on my last visit. I prayed deeply that it would work; I really didn't want to see him any time soon. I sighed again as I walked toward the house hoping my mother was home.

The door creaked ever so slightly as I opened it and when I looked up I found my mom standing there concern solidly formed in her brown eyes.

"I'm sorry okka-san, you were right," was all I managed as I collapsed into a crying mess within her arms.
