Chapter Three
"Are you in control now Kagome?" Sakura asked gently.
"Yes momma." Kagome wouldn't look at her mother, she was riding the proverbial edge of her human temper. Her body remained aware of her surroundings as she turned within herself to speak once more with Midoriko.
`Is what you said back there true?'
~*Do you honestly believe I would lie?*~
'No, but maybe if your thoughts were as confused as mine, then maybe....'
~*No Kagome, I'm here to see to it that you are trained and safe till the day you come to your prime. Getting out of control is not something that can happen to me.*~ A faint train a arrogance flowed in her words. Making Kagome internally giggle at her guardian. Kagome took a deep soothing breath and stopped in her tracks to look at her mother.
"I want to know right now, do I in any way shape or form, have to maintain any ties with them while here?" She gesticulated with her arms as they cross her chest and pointed to the ground below. Sakura could only chuckle at her daughter. With Sakura following her, they had ended up right next to the car about two blocks from the restaurant. Neither had noticed it still. Sakura shook her head in the negative.
"No sweetie, I would never expect you to do so, and besides your training starts soon. You will hardly have time to eat or sleep." She calmly looked at her daughter and smiled. She looked around to take in her surroundings and noticed their car next to them. "Now climb in, seeing as how we couldn't-"
"Higurashi-san!" Turning around, Sakura saw Kolas running to them with a bag and a small smile. "I'm sorry for my siblings disrespect, please take these on the house." He held out the bag to the two who smiled. Sakura who stood closer took the bag and noticed extra weight. There was an extra meal in it, probably a dessert.
"That's very sweet of you Kolas, but what about Ayana? I know she won't be happy about this." Sakura said handing the bag to Kagome and making sure she stood in front of her daughter. He was one of Kouga's sons after all, and there was no telling when one of them would pounce on the girl.
"Don't worry about her," he said with a shake of his head, "I pretty much own the place and if she wants to yell at me she can. I'll just send her back to the caves with father." They heard a soft giggle behind them and turned to see Kagome stifling her laughter.
"The caves? You still live there?" Kolas smiled and nodded.
"Yes Kagome-san, our mother, father, and the other pups that can't handle living in the city are still residing in the caves. Its only natural for us," he said with a prideful shrug. "We all, at one point or another live there with our parents and our own pups."
They heard distant yelling and Kolas sighed, "I guess that's my cue to go back." He bowed deeply to the two woman of higher rank in society and moved to turn around. Only to be stopped by Kagome with a hug,
"Thank you for being so kind Kolas." Sakura chuckled at the faint blush on the young youkai's face, he definitely had feelings for her daughter. This could pose as a problem later, especially if Kagome didn't make it clear that she didn't love him like that. At the sound of another yell, Sakura spoke up.
"All right, Kolas you need to get back, before Ayana comes after you." He nodded, slightly numb and smiled as he turned and ran back to the restaurant. "I know you don't remember him much, but what do you think of him?" Sakura smiled at her daughter's blush as she muttered in annoyance.
"Mother, now is not the time to be thinking of mates, besides I do remember him and he's too much of a brother." Turning back to look at her mother, she sighed at the smile on her face. "Is that a satisfactory answer mother dear?" Nodding, but not saying anything, Sakura climbed in the drivers' side as Kagome got in on the passenger side.
Kagome's reaction was what she was looking for. The fact that she had blushed and denied any feelings proved she was healing. Hopefully she would be better by the time her training was over.
Letting out a tired but satisfied sigh, Kagome and her mother lay on the floor. All around them was equipment and clothes. The empty containers of food sat in front of them. Kagome let her mind wander to her heart; and Inuyasha. It was strange, but thinking about him and his betrayal didn't hurt as much as she thought it would. Sure it made her upset that he would replace her with a corpse, yet other than that it didn't bother her.
Looking to her mother, she found the older woman staring at the ceiling with a serious look on her cream toned face. The normal smile was far from existence, making Kagome wonder how her mother had ever held that fake smile so long.
~*It is a trait of your kind to hide true emotions behind another, think Kagome. How often have you done the same thing?*~
'I don't need this from you right now Mido-san.'
~*I'm merely pointing out a trait of yours, and showing you how similar you are to your mother.*~
'Like I said, "I don't need this from you right now." I realize how much like my mother I am. She's the only roll model I've had, at least that I can remember.' Light laughter sounded through her mind, as the image of Midoriko giggling filled her mind.
~*You will remember your father in good time, along with YuJie.*~
Kagome smiled with hope and looked to her quite mother, only to find Sakura's chocolate and cinnamon eyes staring at her. A small smile on Sakura's lips let her know that she was content, yet curious to the smile on Kagome's face.
"Mido-san told me my memories of Otousan and YuJie will return." Her mother gave an understanding nod and sat up.
"Well, I think its time for bed don't you? We'll put your training off for a day so we can go get food tomorrow and I can set things up." She said glancing back at Kagome with a mischievous smile. "And you'll be helping me." Kagome groaned knowing what that meant. She'd be doing the heavy lifting, getting used to that part of her heritage. While her mother cast the protective spells. Pushing herself up into a sitting position, Kagome glanced at her mother and saw a longing smile. `She deeply misses pappa and I never saw it, how is that?' she thought to herself and made a promise to her parents.
"I'll train hard and quick Okkasan and I won't fail you, I promise," Kagome whispered. Sakura look down at her and Kagome watched her eyes fill with pride and hope. She reached up and wrapped her arms around her mother and whispered.
"I give you my word, I will make you and Otousan proud."
"I'm all ready proud of you Daughter; but I will hold you to your word." She held Kagome close in a warm hug that only a parent can give a child. After the moment of comforting silence, both rose and threw away the food containers before retreating to their rooms.
Kagome's mind once more turned to the Feudal Ages, and her duty to YuJie. She thought about what Midoriko had said about the miko training her.
`Mido-san, can I ask a favor?'
~*I would be more than willing to start your training tonight.*~ The ever calm voice sounded happy and almost motherly. Making Kagome grin lopsidedly.
`You're always one step ahead of me I see.'
~*Of course I am, I am your guardian after all.*~ The arrogance only made Kagome laugh as she entered her room and closed the door. She pulled off the hoody sweater to feel the cool air that circled through her room through the open window.
She smirked and stood in front of her mirror to look at herself. Ivory skin, ebony locks falling down her back. Her eyes followed the curves of her body. She was trim and muscled from her journeys in Sengko, yet there was a definite femininity to her. Her face still possessed its youthful roundness, but her eyes were most certainly not young and carefree. The color had gone from its stormy sapphire as a child to a deep soulful blue sapphire. Occasionally the old stormy gray would return, but only when she was depressed.
`Is there something so horrible about me that males notice that sends them to others?'
~*No Kagome, actually males find you very appealing in more than one sense. They just simply do not know how to react to you.*~ Midoriko spoke comfortingly. ~*It matters not their opinions, for when you find the right one, you will know it.*~
`But how Mido-san?'
~*Trust me my dear, you will, now get some rest, tomorrow will be a long day. And tonight will be no different; I will meet you on the dream plane*~
`Hai Mido-san.' Kagome quickly changed into a baggy grey t-shirt with white puppies and a pair of plain grey pants. Once done she settled until her blankets to sleep and train with Midoriko.
