The void

*sigh* alright, lets review, I don't own any InuYasha diddly, although I am absolutely in love with it......OH THE AGONY!!

Life, she had none. She was nothing, a mere body without a heart, she didn't speak, she didn't disobey her master, and she was a killer. A murderer, an assassin? No, she was a slave, a slave to the wickedness of Naraku, her father, creator, and master. She had a sister, her name was Kagura, but she was killed long ago, her master killed her. Kagura only wanted freedom, to be "as free as the wind, for she was the wind itself" is how she put it. To Kanna, the freedom was wasted; what good was freedom in death? In death you are nothing once again. Kanna was more than that; her master was killed, by that wretched InuYasha and his friends. She should be happy, shouldn't she? The one who controlled her was dead; she was free, just as Kagura longed to be. For her sister, she would do something, something for herself, to be Kanna, not Naraku's servant, just for herself. To bad the life she chose now, was something worse than what she had.

"Finally, the darkness has come."

What Kanna does now, is unspeakable, it is traitorous, and she loves every minute of it. Sucking the souls out of children, haunting them for days, driving them to the brink of insanity, telling them lies, secrets, making them betray their family. She was a creature, known as "The Child" now; Kanna was something that every child dreads. She kills them all, one by one, oldest to youngest, first the boys, then the girls, all of them. Her life was nothing short of Hell itself, but it was all she had. She didn't have an existence without orders, she didn't have a family without her sister, and she didn't have a life without a heart. Her heart should have appeared inside of her as soon as Naraku perished, but, being the cunning bastard that he was, he long before destroyed her heart without destroying her.

During the day, Kanna sat in her old home, a cave, as dull as it was, it suited her. Surveying her mirror for new victims, she waits, all day she waits, until her terror can be seen once again.

"There are no new children this winter......" her soft, monotone voice spoke out quietly.
Her now long, white hair swayed with the wind, giving her an angelic demeanor, though her looks deceive her true self. The old kimono she long since outgrew was replaced with one that showed just how angelic she could appear. Long, majestic sleeves hung from her elbows, a white kimono with silver trim covered her porcelain body. The only part of her old self she kept were the flowers in her hair and her mirror. The flowers, she thought, reminded her of her sister; every year the flowers identical to the ones in her hair would be blown by the wind, like it was showing them the way.

"What do you wish me to do sister? Why can't you answer me...?" she asked the wind as it just circled her body. "How could you have left me sister? Kagura, you were my only family, my only friend, why did you leave?"

The wind whistled and screamed, the voice unheard but the feelings known. Kagura's soul was crying, wishing she could free her sister just as she had been freed.

Tears were never shed from her emotionless face, but her soul cried. It cried for herself and for her sister. True as it was, she couldn't die by any normal weapon, truthfully, she didn't know how to die, otherwise she would have seen to it that her death was brought on herself. But, it was also to her advantage, no one could harm her, even if they caught her, but no one ever has, and never will.

Wh en the light has finally faded with the sun, the darkness rules the night; and since Kanna was who she was, everyone hid from site. Door’s were barricaded, windows sealed shut, and no one made a sound. Very few slept, mainly the men, and the children were kept close to each other and made sure not to wander alone. At this very moment, they all no, The Child is coming, she always comes when the sun is down; but, still, no one can seem to catch her.

“Heh, they still believe they can hide from me…” ,her childlike voice rung out,”well, they can hide all they want, but they cannot escape me.”

With that, she leaped off of her perch on top of her cave, landing swiftly on her feet. Holding the mirror directly in front of herself, she listened to the voices of the village. ”SHE’S COMING! WE MUST HIDE THE CHILDREN!” was one woman’s harsh whisper.”No! They must stay with us, she will find them if they hide.”
“But then she’ll kill us!”

As she watched, her mouth turned bitter at the site of them. “Foolish humans, save the childrens or save your-selves. It is a difficult choice I imagine, but no one will escape…anyone.”

Slowly, she began her quiet walk to the village, while the village them-selves were completely unaware.

“They had slacked off, it seems, usually they all have already hidden by now. Heh, it seems they do not care for the offspring as much as they once did….maybe they have finally given up.”

Closer and closer she came, louder and louder were they’re huddled voices, and every step she took, her mirror yearned for a soul. Yes, tonight, not one child would escape.

One child had been set out in the woods before the sunset, but unfortunately, didn’t return in time, only now, did his mother realize this.
“Toru…TORU! WHERE’S MY TORU!?” she screamed. “ Shhhh! Hush Durei! She will come sooner if you do not silence yourself!””MY BOY!” the young woman cried,” WHERE ARE YOU!” She ran into the forest to find her lost child.

Along the same path as Kanna, the boy searched frantically for the village path. He heard a twig snap behind him and his heart beat sped up. ”Wh-who’s there?” Trying to sound strong, he didn’t dare look behind him, but only kept his eyes focused on the ground. In a soft voice, Kanna tenderly spoke to him, “Why child, are you lost?””Y-yes, I am…” a cold sweat began to drip off of his face.

“Please, I will do nothing to you, please turn around, take my hand.”
That voice, how could he have turned down that voice. It was, so pure and real, it was calming, almost as if he was under a spell, he turned around. He saw before him, nothing of a demon, no devil creature with blaring red eyes, but what seemed to him as an angel.

“There, I am nothing to be afraid of, come now, trust me..” Kanna said as she outstretched her hand to him.He took the hand without saying a word, and felt his own feet disobey his mind. He knew this was bad, he could feel it, none of the movements his body was making was of his own will, tonight would surely be the last night of his life.
