InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Wind Beneath My Wings ❯ The King of Wolves ( Chapter 8 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Sorry for the lack of updates, been busy. I hope this makes up for it! And thanks for reviewing.
Sadly, I don't own Inuyasha. But if I did you'd be the first to know.

Inuyasha quickly stopped yelling at Izayoi, spinning around to look at Keitaro's father. Recognition dawned upon his face and soon it twisted into a scowl."Well, I thought I'd never have to deal with you again, but I guess I was wrong. What an unpleasant surprise it is to see you again, Koga."
Izayoi blinked. "You know him?" she asked her father, who had taken to standing protectively in front of her, fangs bared and chest rumbling with unhappy growls. She was confused. She looked up over her father's should to Keitaro, whom had been pushed behind Koga sometimes during the exchange and was looking just as equally perplexed as she was.
"Keh. Of course I know the stinking wolf." Inuyasha snorted, glaring at Koga with a unique ferocity Izayoi hadn't seen before. Koga looked equally angry. "I should've scented your ugly stench miles away, dog-crap." Inuyasha simply smirked and cracked his knuckles. "Well it seems nothing's changed. I'll kill you now, like I should've done a long time ago." Koga simply snorted. "Prepare to die, half-breed." the wolf-man growled, causing Izayoi's blood to boil.
"Oy!" she snarled, pushing past her father and glaring up at Koga, who blinked down at her surprised. "Shut your stinking mouth you overgrown-"
"Izayoi, quiet."
Izayoi instantly shut up and whirled around to look at her father, stunned. He seemed to have calmed down, and was looking at her with a dominating disposition. Whatever was with him, it was serious, and she'd better do what he say. "Go home." he said softly. "Your mother's worried."
Izayoi's jaw dropped. It was just getting good! "But-"
"Go!"
Izayoi turned on her heel and darted out of the clearing towards her house, furrowing her brow in confusion and worry. Who the- "Ow!" Izayoi was stopped abruptly by something - or rather, someone- standing in her way. Stepping back and shaking her head, Izayoi looked up at none other than Keitaro. "What're you-" she started, but he hushed her and grabbed her wrist, pulling her around the clearing and towards where Azumi had gone.
"If we're going to get your sword back, we're gonna have to leave now."
Izayoi's golden eyes flickered back towards where Inuyasha and Koga were talking rather loudly, then back to Keitaro, who looked determined to get out of there. "But-"
"Do you want it back or not?"
The young half-hanyou girl's expression hardened and she nodded shortly, once. "Of course."

"Oh, where oh where oh where is Izzy?"
"...."
"Where oh where oh where is Izzy?"
"....Tai..."
"Where oh where oh where is Izzy?
"...uh...."
"Where could Izzy be?"
"Shut up!"
Tai instantly lowered his ears and looked down at his brother, Kenmaru, who was walking next to him, silver ears perked and listening for any sign of his older sister. Kenmaru was only thirteen, but he had inherited much of his mother's attributes and was quite strong spiritually and very calm and meditated. Tai simply sighed and rolled his eyes when his younger brother gave him a dour look. "I'm trying to listen."
"I'm trying to find Izzy."
"You're not helping."
"Yes I am."
"Stop being a dog."
"Sorry, let me just re-work my anatomy..."
"Oh, be quiet, no one likes you."
Inutaisho instantly snapped his mouth shut and growled softly, but his brother paid no mind. Kenmaru's short, silver hair rustled in the soft breeze, golden eyes darting about, but otherwise made no move. He was both listening for his sister and reaching out for her aura. Tai chuckled inwardly as he observed his brother. The exact replica of their father on the outside; an exact replica of their mother on the inside. Quite the contrast, really.
Suddenly, Kenmaru snapped to attention and sniffed the air. Tai sniffed too, and suddenly caught a familiar scent, but it wasn't Izayoi's, it was their father's. "Maybe Dad found her. Let's go."

"Izayoi!"
Linorah called out feebly for her sister, holding tight around her mother's shoulders as Kagome trekked through the forest with her youngest on her back. Kagome, of course, was frantic with worry but was maintaining her calm, for her own sake as much as her family's. Kagome stared straight ahead as he walked, deep in thought. Why would she just run off like that? She should've at least asked for Inuyasha's help!
Both Kagome and Linorah were too distracted to sense the dark figure hiding in the shadows, watching them closely.

"We're getting close, we have to be."
Izayoi nodded over at Keitaro, knowing he was right. They'd been walking for some time, having no trouble following Azumi's scent once they'd lost the scent of the disgusting dragon. Izayoi walked slowly, with one hand holding her chin in deep thought, the other folded beneath it, making her greatly resemble 'The Thinker'. Keitaro, though knowing nothing of such sculpture, reached over and tapped her on the head. "Penny for your thoughts?"
Izayoi blinked out of the reverie and laughed. "I don't know if I trust you, let me see the penny first." Keitaro chuckled quietly but continued to stare at her as she resumed the position, quickening her pace.
"Hello?"
"Huh? Oh, sorry. I'm just... I dunno. Did you know our dads knew each other?"
Keitaro shrugged slightly, pushing light brown hair out of his deep blue eyes. "I didn't even know YOU existed. This whole thing's pretty confusing to me."
Izayoi nodded in understanding. "Well, you said you're the 'wolf prince' or whatever, right? So that makes your dad...?"
"The wolf king, yeah." Keitaro chuckled at how stupid that sounded. "The pack leader, anyway. We've got a pretty big group."
"Got any siblings?"
"A brother and sister, but they're still pretty young. I'm next in line for the 'throne.'"
Izayoi laughed. "Lucky you." A slight pause followed and her mind drifted to her own little 'pack.' Her father, of course was the 'leader' or alpha male, and her mother the alpha female. That made Tai the beta male and Izayoi herself the beta female. A smile flitted its way across her lips at the thought.
Keitaro watched her pretty features, amused, about to once again ask her what she was thinking, before looking straight forward when a strange scent assaulted his nose. "Izayoi-"
"I know."
She too was standing, staring straight ahead, ears twitching madly atop her head. "Let's go."
Without another word, the two dashed off, chasing the scent into the night.
