This Can't Be Real

Chapter 4

Coming to Close to Understanding

She couldn't believe what was happening. One minute she was being felt up by Naraku and the next she was making out with Inuyasha. Her mind wasn't cooperating and all it was focusing on was the way he tasted-how she wanted more of it. Her heart was still beating faster than she had ever known it to. Nothing but her body was obeying her. She told it to run, and that's what she was doing. With this new speed she found it easy to get away from everything easily-but she couldn't get away from him. He was like her, only he had not spent 16 years of his life as a human.

She stopped in the middle of the clearing realizing that she had no clue where she was heading. She sniffed only to rid her nose of the foul smell on her clothing that was left behind from Naraku, but she picked up something gentler. Something that only belonged to Inuyasha. At first she thought it was her robe that she was currently dressed in, but then her ears picked up footsteps travelling extremely fast towards her. She looked back to see a flash of red in the distance and knew too well that it was Inuyasha.

She turned away and bolted away from him. She didn't want to face him, not now at least. The wind blew violently against her ears causing them to flatten against her skull like Inuyasha's had done many times before. Her hair whipped behind her and her bare feet padded along the rough ground faster than she ever thought possible. She sniffed the air again and she could still smell him. She leaped into the air aiming for a tall branch and was praying that she could reach it in time before Inuyasha caught her. But she must have spoken too soon because two arms encircles her waist and she was suddenly pulled into him.

He landed on another branch a little higher up than the one that she was heading two and refused to let her go. She squirmed violently and struggled against his grip. He held her firmly and tried to get her to calm down but she was in no such state.

"Kagome, please stop." He asked calmly as if she was still her normal self. She stopped momentarily and turned her head partially to look at him, but then continued her previous efforts. His grip tightened and she felt a sensation that was unfamiliar wash over her.

"What do you want Inuyasha." She asked angrily.

"I want you to stop running and face me." She let his words register in her mind and knew what she had to face. She spun around and raised her face so it was close to his-only masked with rage.

"There, I'm not running and I'm facing you." She nearly spat in his face. He looked at her with eyes that she had never seen him use before. Part of her anger left her, but the rest still lingered. "Let go." He refused her answer like he had never heard it. He just stared at her with those eyes, as if searching for something unsaid. Something to make sense of what he was feeling.

"Inuyasha, don't make me say the `S' word!" She threatened.

"If you say that then I'll just be taking you down with me." He said in a low tone that made Kagome's heart beat faster. She stared at him not knowing what she was supposed to do anymore. "What's wrong?" He asked keeping the same expression on his face-the same unreadable expression.

"What do you mean what's wrong?" She demanded.

"Your heart beat is faster than it usually is-what is making it do so?" He said in an almost Sesshoumaru-like fashion. Kagome gulped because she didn't want to face him with the one thing that danced around in her head-and heart. She looked down at his chest instead of facing his face. She was shocked to look back up when she felt his head move to her right shoulder. He started to nuzzle her neck and take in her scent. His claws gently ran across her lower back and Kagome could barely believe that her body was betraying her in this act. She bit back a moan that threatened to come out as she felt his fangs gently nip at her neck.

Unconsciously she pressed her hips to his and her eyes closed slightly. He smirked against her neck and started to place gentle kisses along it. Her hands came up towards his chest and grasped the fabric tightly. She could barely breath and her blood was pumping fiercely.

"Inu…Inuyasha…" She all but whispered. He pulled away from her neck and looked into her eyes. His lips were hovering only inches away from hers and she could feel his breath hitting them. It sent shivers of eagerness through her body and she wanted to feel his lips against hers. His eyes darted from hers to her full lips waiting for his to take over. His whole mind, body and soul were crying out to take her then and there, up in the tree. His demon side was barely under control and he could feel his skin getting a little warmer than normal. As he traced his claws against her back he could feel the Goosebumps appear.

His right hand started to explore and slowly started to head down her side. Her breath got hitched in her throat as the outcome of his action. He smirked as he let his fingers almost tickle her thigh. She raised slightly at the sensation, making their lips brush against one another's. She couldn't make sense of anything right now-all she could think of was him. The taste of him, the feel of him, the way he could make her forget everything except for him.

"Kagome, I want you to be honest with me." He said huskily as he continued his actions with his fingers. "Do you want the same thing as me?" She didn't know how to answer his question; he was so confusing sometimes.

"The real question is what do you want Inuyasha." She said quietly as she watched him with intense eyes. He looked into her blue and silver streaked eyes as he thought about it. What did he want? He knew the answer but was afraid to put it into words-out there. He knew what he had to do and it took almost every ounce of him to let that single word leave his mouth.

"You." Kagome tensed as her eyes widened slightly as she continued to look into his golden orbs. She wasn't sure what to feel-what to think. She couldn't register anything; she couldn't think things through. Her brain failed to let her sort things out and she felt as if she was under some kind of trance. As Kagome continued to stare into his eyes she realized that he'd never looked at anybody else with those eyes that she was looking at now. Not with that look in his eyes. Not even her-not even Kikyou. She wasn't sure what she was doing but it seemed like the thing to do.

She pulled him closer to her, closing the distance between the two of them. He didn't want anything to go to waste and right away pulled her closer than she already was. Her kiss was demanding, and she wanted more. Her lips parted as his tongue gently brushed by. It was all twisted into the moment that neither cared about anything but each other and the heated passion between them. She nipped at his lower lip, as he tasted her thoroughly. He let out a tiny growl as he felt her ministrations towards his lip. His hand that was gently raking at her thigh started to venture upwards, underneath her silk robe. Her eyes shot open as she felt his claws tickle her behind-realizing that his hand had ventured farther than she had thought. She pulled away and didn't know if she wanted to go that far with him. She could feel somewhere inside of her telling her to ignore it and just go for it-let him take her. But she wasn't used to these voices and she was too confused.

"Stop." She whispered to him, not being able to look into his eyes. They held too much truth, too much of the things that made her weak. He moved his hand out from under her robe and let it drift back to her hip. He respected her wishes and didn't want to put her through anything that she didn't want to go through.

"What's wrong?" His gentle voice asked heavy with concern and worry. She stared at his prayer beads and couldn't voice her concerns at the time. Then a clawed finger appeared under her chin and held her head up so he could look into her eyes. "What's wrong?" He repeated again in the same soft and comforting tone.

"I-I don't want to be like this. I can't go back home, my grandpa won't accept me. My friends won't accept me. I can't go back to my family since I'm h-hanyou." She said weakly, emotions trying to override her thoughts. "I'm not a normal teenager anymore, I'm half demon. I can't go to school; I can't go to college. I-I can't go back to my era, I'm going to be stuck here forever." Her voice quieted down near the end.

"Is there anything wrong with staying here-with me?" He asked not fully understanding all her feelings at the moment. She tried to hold back a smile but it was unable to be stopped as it lit up her features. She revealed not her normal human teeth, but fangs and incisors like Inuyasha had.

"No, there's nothing wrong with that at all." She whispered. "But I have a life back in my era-family, friends and school. Everyone will be worried about me and my grandpa will probably say something crazy like I was killed or shipped off to Cuba as a hooker or something other. I don't want to just forget about them, I mean I wanted to finish high school and go to university! I want to travel to different countries; I wanted to go to Canada to see the beavers! Well not exactly the beavers but-" He silenced her from rattling on. He raised a finger to her lips making her stop dead in her tracks of her rambling.

"It's not your fault that you're hanyou, it's that bastard Naraku's. I don't know what you are going to do about your era but all I know is that you're going to stay here with me, right?" He asked with the cutest puppy eyes that she'd ever seen. She had to look away from his eyes to keep the truth from leaking through.

"I'm going to miss it all though."

"But you can still go back to see your family, they'll understand." He tried.

"Yeah, but grandpa will continuously be throwing those stupid charms at me, trying to ward me away." She laughed as she rested her head on his chest. He held her close and enjoyed the little moment that they were sharing together. She closed her eyes and let her ears focus on the sound of his heartbeat. But her ears picked up something different apart from the beating organ in his chest. Her eyes snapped open and then her ears swiveled in the direction that the sound was coming from.

Inuyasha heard it too and loosened his grip on Kagome. It sounded like Kirara was coming with the rest of the `gang'. Kagome knew the sound and wasn't ready to face them just yet. With little strength she pulled herself away from him and took off once again, knowing very well that he probably could catch her. She didn't need to know where she was heading; she was just trying to distance herself from the way that they would treat her for being different.

"Kagome!" Inuyasha called after her. He gave one last glance towards where Kirara was getting closer and then took off after the one whom his heart belonged to-even if she wasn't aware of it yet.
