Chapter 2 - Surprises Come in Every Form

:::Kagome's Memory/Dream:::

11 year old Kagome sat in her room, listening to music, singing along with her new Nickelback CD she was startled by yelling and doors being slammed. Turning her sterio down, she opened her bedroom door, noticing the yelling was coming from the living room, quietly she snuck down the hall and peered around the corner. Her grandfather was sitting in his chair, Dan (Kagome's moms' bf) standing by the door, the dream was fuzzy, she couldn't understand why two of the people close to her were fighting, upset and with tears streaming down her face, she ran to her grandfather and climbed on his lap, clinging to him.

Shortly after her uncle arrived, her grandpa had called him earlier than evening, finally understanding what was going on Kagome moved to a chair at the back of the room, a few minutes later her mom came out of the bathroom yelling at her grandpa and uncle.. Kagome understood now, Grandpa was kicking Dan out of the house, and her uncle was there to help, but mom wouldn't stand for it, she went against her family, she chose him over her.. her own daughter. Wait, no, she was yelling at Kagome to go to the car, Kagome refused, hiding behind her grandpa..

Inuyasha finished reading the journal, stunned to say the least, Kagome had been his best friend since the 5th grade, but she never went into detail of what went wrong in her family. He put the journal up and looked down at the young woman in his arms, brushing a strand of hair from her eyes he thought, 'Why haven't you told me what you hide from the world?' He slowly drifted to sleep, his head against Kagome's. unconsciously she snuggled closer to Inuyasha, he smiled and wrapped his arms around her waist. Inuyasha was awaken by Kagome thrashing about in his arms. "Kagome? Kagome! Wake up.." he gently, but firmly, shook her shoulders, she started to whimper, "Shh.. It's okay, I'm here." Kagome started crying, "Momma? No, Mom!!" "Shhh.. It's okay, Kagome wake up! It's just a bad dream.." He rocked side to side with her held tightly against him. Slowly, Kagome came to, blinking a few times, "Oh, Inu.." She began to cry again, he tightened his grip on her and tried to calm her down. Her sobs calmed to whimpers and faded into the early morning. “Are you okay?" she nodded slightly, laying her head on his chest. "What were you dreaming about?" Kagome looked up into Inuyasha's honey-golden eyes.".. At first.. it was just an old memory.. When Grandpa kicked Danny out of the house for.. for the drug bust.." "Drug bust?" She nodded, "When I was 11, we were staying at Danny's house, someone knocked on the door about 10 P.M., it was the cops, mom and him ended up staying the night in jail while I went to grandma C's - Danny's mom's house. I could've been taken away! .. It was child endangerment, but since it was my moms first offence, they allowed me to stay with her, but we couldn't be around ANYONE that was involved with drugs.. She went against it by staying with Danny." Inuyasha wasn't too surprised; he knew something wasn't right about that Danny character. "Why didn't you tell me any of this before? I could've helped you through it, nothing like that is ever easy." Kagome sighed and looked towards the window, looking back up at him with tears brimming her eyes she whisper, "I didn't want to scare you away.. I thought.. I thought that if you knew just how screwed up my family was you'd walk away, just like everyone else I've ever told.." "I'm not like everyone else! You know that!" He hugged her tightly, "Sorry! ... I'm sorry.. All my life I've been kept in the dark or had backs turned on me.. It's hard to trust anyone anymore.." She looked him straight in the eye with love and meaningfulness, "But.. I DO trust you.." "I trust you too" he whispered, nuzzling the top of her head. Looking out the window, Inuyasha saw the faint orange and pink of the sun rising. Setting Kagome on the bed beside him, he got up and walked to the window, after a few minutes he turned back to Kagome, "You trust me, right" She nodded, "Of course I do..Why?" "C'mon, I know a place not far from here where the scenery is beautiful this time of day." He held his hand out to her. Kagome took his hand and stood beside him at the window, "But you don't have a car.. How're we going to get there..?" Inuyasha looked into Kagome's eyes, "You're not the only one with secrets.. I'll show you when we get there, and I'll carry you." Kagome looked abit confused, "Carry me? There's no way you're carrying me - Ahh!" Kagome yelped and clung to Inuyasha as he leaped out the window to the tree, leaping tree to tree through the forest.

"Ahh! Inuyasha.. How're you..? What.. What's going on? How're you jumping like that.. running this fast?! In the TREES?!!?" Inuyasha smirked down at the woman in his arms, "Everyone has their secrets" he said, "But you'll know soon enough, the clearing is just up ahead."Once they landed in the clearing, Kagome looked around, amazed by the beauty of it. "Wow.. its.. Gorgeous.." She looked up at Inuyasha questionly, he smiled down at her and set her on her feet. "I brought you here because its a sight to see.. and because I wanted you to 'meet' my mother.." "Your mother? Why'd she be out here at 6 A.M.?" "She's always out here.. This is where she rests." He said walking over to a sakkara blossom tree. "..Oh.. I'm so sorry Yash.." "Nothing to be sorry about, you didn't know.. my mom tired to hide my secret as long as she could, not that she was ashamed, she just wanted to protect me.. Then a couple of the villagers saw me, accusing mom of protecting a demon, they killed her while I escaped. After they left I burried her here, beneath this tree." "Demon? Inuyasha you're no demon.. demons are cruel, and scary looking. You're neither of those." "You're right, I'm not a demon. I'm a hanyou, half-demon. Born of a human mother and dog generals son." He looked into Kagome's eyes, "Do you trust me?" ".. Yes, I do." "Then don't scream or runaway. Just trust me." She nodded, then gasped at the sight before her eyes. As Inuyasha chanted something his features changed, his once midnight black hair faded to a silky silver, his eyes brightened from dull honey to sun golden. His canines poked over his bottom lip, and his fingernails extended to claws. Last he no longer had human ears, but atop his head were two puppy ears, Kagome couldn't help but giggle. "What're you laughing at wench?" She walked towards him, stopping directly in front of him. "Why would I run away from this? I think you're cute!" She blushed realizing what she blurted out. "I.. I mean your ears, they're so cute! Like a puppy." "Keh. Cute like a puppy, huh?" "Mhm.." She reached up and scratched one of his ears, he started purring! She giggled.Realizing what was going on, Inuyasha shook her hand off. "Awe, the big bad doggie doesn't like admitting he likes his ears being scratched?" "How do you know if I liked it or not." "Because you were purring." She grinned. "I do not pur! I'm a dog, not a cat!" "Awe.. is this one of my puppy's weaknesses? Ear scratching?" she grinned. "Keh! Your puppy, huh?" he said slowly advancing toward her, she backed away, grin gone from her face. "Now Yashie.. no need to get even over anything." "Who says I'm getting even? I'm just havin' some fun."He grinned. "Ah.. Inuyasha.. No.." "I'll give you a 10 second start.. 1.. " Kagome took off into the surrounding trees. "5... 6... 7... 8... 9... 10!" He leaped into the trees and headed in the direction Kagome had gone. Sniffing the air to pick up her scent, he grinned when he saw her walking around on the forest floor below, silently dropping down behind her, he followed her until she was about to turn around, he tackled her "RAWR!" "Ahhh!!" They went flying a few feet then hit the ground, rolling acouple times. They stopped with Kagome on top of Inuyasha, his arms wrapped tightly around her waist. Kagome sat up - As best she could with him still grasping her. "Next time, don't tackle so hard! That knocked the wind outta me." She pouted. Inuyasha just chuckled, Kagome slapped his shoulder. "OW!" "Oh shut up you big baby. And let me go." "Fine" he released her and started tickling her sides "Ah Ha Ha - Inu - Ha Ha - Yasha! St - Ha Ha - op!!" Grinning he stopped. Kagome smiled and tried to catch her breath when she felt something trickling down her cheek, brushing her hand against her cheek she saw it was blood. "I must've scratched myself when you tackled me, no biggie." She said getting up. Inuyasha pulled her back down onto his lap, and to Kagome's surprise she felt something wet going over her wound, opening her eyes she realized Inuyasha was licking her cheek.
