Chapter 1: Onigumo's Downfall and Akuma's Plans

Onigumo lay on the cave floor thinking of his beloved Kikyo. 'How I long for her! But my love will never be returned, not as long as that InuYasha is around. I must find a way to make him leave her. Oh how I wish i was stronger. I would gladly sell my soul to a thousand demons to be with her.'

"Yes Kikyo, I would sell my soul for you," he muttered. As he was speaking, a strange noise was heard, like the screech of a giant cat, followed by a loud rumbling sound. Onigumo panicked, he was in no condition to move anyways. He couldn't even walk! A large hole appeared in the ground near him and a horde of demons came through the hole, all kinds of demons and they didn't look too friendly. Onigumi tried to move, tried to drag his useless body acroos the cave floor, but it was no use.The demons crept closer.

"What do you want with me!" he cried, now in a flow blown panic.

"Your soul, your soul!", various demons hissed, "your soul is ours!" The demons closed in on him and absorbed his body

Onigumo felt a horrible burning sensation, it felt like his body was being torn to shreds. His head rolled back and a slient scream tore it's way from his throat. The pain steadily increased to an almost unfathomable level. Then, just when the pain became too much, it began to die away. Slowly Onigumi stood and looked at himself. He could hear the evil thoughts repeated over and over in his mind. 'Kill. Kill. Hunt and kill. Hurt those who have hurt you. Take what they took from you. Kill them all!' He felt the raw power coursing through his veins and smirked. He began to see red as he gave into the voices.

Kikyo walked towards Onigumo's Cave, as she now called it, to visit with the hurt man and check his wounds. When she got there, she was greeted with an unpleasant sight. The cave looked as though it had caught on fire. The whole cave was burned, except for a small patch near the wall. She looked at it and gasped when she realized the patch was in the shape of a body. Leading to the clear spot was a thin trail of blood. It started n the middle of the cave where Onigumo had originally been laying. She ran out of the cave and into the field and dropped to her knees as the neausous and dizzy feeling took over her body. She sat and retched a few times then went to the stream to clean herself up. She was confused about this 'fire' and wanted to know why it occured. She slowly walked back to the field so she could pick some of the herbs in the area.

'How could this have happened? Why? I just don't understand.' She was pulled out of her thoughts by the sight of a familiar hanyou. He was running towards her at a great speed, like something was after him. Kikyo frowned, 'What could possibly be wrong with him.' She opened her mouth to greet him, but she never got the chance. InuYasha stopped in front of her and an evil smiled crossed his face. Kikyo turned to run, but it was no use. InuYasha ripped his razor sharp claws across her back and sides, tearing huge gashes in her skin. Kikyo dropped to her knees as the blood poured out out the tears in her flesh and uttered one word.

"Why?"

InuYasha just stared at her. He calmly walked over and stepped on the hand that was clutching the jewel. He applied more pressure until Kikyo cried out and released the jewel. He casually picked it up and looked it over before grinning.

"Thanks Kikyo." he said with a malicious smile. He turned and run off in the direction he had come from, leaving Kikyo to die alone in the field by Onigumo's cave

Kikyo laid there in a puddle of her own blood for for a few minutes before summoning the strength to get up. 'He betrayed me! I must stop him. InuYasha must die!' Kikyo slowly trudged back towards the village, fighting the darkness threatening to overtake her. The trip took twice as long as usual, but she was determined to stop InuYasha. She caught a glimpse of his red fire rat robe through the trees. Kikyo readied her arrow as he ran from the village.

"InuYasha!"

InuYasha turned to look at his love, pointing an arrow at him. He was beyond stunned. 'Why is she pointing her arrow at me? What could I have done?' He turned angry. 'That bitch wanted me to become human and here she is threatening to kill me. The bitch betrayed me.' His train of thought was interrupted when he heard Kikyo speak again.

"Die InuYasha," she screamed and let her arrow fly. It pierced InuYasha's shoulder and pinned him to the trunk of the God Tree. Kikyo collapsed in a daze. With her last remaining strength she asked for the jewel to be burned with her body. Then the darkness overtook her.

InuYasha was shocked, "K-Kikyo?" he asked softly. He watched her collapse as his eyes drifted shut.

When Onigumo regained conciousness he was in a field near the cave he had been in. The smell of blood was all around him and on his hands. He looked around confused and noticed a bit of red fabric lying on the ground. He picked it up and smelled it. 'Hmmm, smells like Kikyo, but there's blood on it.' Then he realized the owner of the blood covering him. His thoughts were all jumble and confused. 'Why am I covered in Kikyo's blood? I don't understand, did something happen to my Kikyo?' He wandered to the same stream Kikyo had been at just hours before. He scrubbed the blood off his hands and tried to remember how he got in the field. Then the memories hit him. Him being absorbed by demons. The pain and anguish, the power he felt afterwards, Kikyo walking towards the cave as he sat in a tree. 'In a tree? How did I get in a tree?' Yet more memories raced through his subconcious. Walking over to Kikyo, ripping her beautiful skin open with his claws, the horrified look on her face. 'What have I done?' Onigumo stood there in shock as his world faded to black.

He awoke some time later still in the field. He felt sick standing in that field, so he did the only thing he could think of: he ran. He ran for what seemed like hours, but was actually only a few minutes. When he finally stopped to look at his surroundings, he realized he was in InuYasha's Forest. He walked over to the towering God tree to sit and think, or perhaps just to mope. When he got there, he noticed InuYasha pinned to the tree by an arrow. He looked like he was sleeping. Not far from The tree lay the body of his beloved Kikyo. He felt his heart break when he saw the deep wounds that were still bleeding. A small girl was kneeling near her, sobbing and shaking Kikyo's body. He guessed that the young girl was her younger sister, Keade, as Kikyo had told him about her and her growing abilities numerous times. As he stood watching the girl and staring at his dead love, a crowd of villagers started to form. All were shocked and saddened by the loss of Kikyo. A young priest was amongst them. Onigumo vaguely heard him mention something about a ceremony. He turned and walked away from the crowd with tears in his eyes. 'I did this, I killed Kikyo. What kind of monster am I? I don't deserve to live. There is nothing left for me here anymore.' With thoughts of suicide in his head, Onigumo wandered the forest aimlessly. He eventually stumbled out of the forest into a small clearing surrounding a cliff. He walked over and glanced over the side. 'Perfect.' The fall was far, but it didn't matter to him. All that mattered was escpaing this horrible guilt and pain. 'Kikyo, my love, I shall be joining you soon.' He glanced around him and, sucking in his breath, threw himself over the edge. His last thoughts as he fell were of Kikyo. He braced himself for the impact, but it never came. Something welled up inside him, although he wasn't sure what. His conscious began to fade as the first bits of red seeped into his eyes.

When he came to, Onigumo was sitting by a small stream. He let out a growl of frustration. 'Why? Why am I still here?' Then he thought of another idea. 'Okay, so jumping didn't work, why not just rip open my viens?' He dug in claws into his arms and drug them down his left arm, then his right. The wounds instantly began to gush blood. Onigumo laughed darkly as the blood dripped down his arms and onto the grass. He felt himself growning dizzy and swayed on his feet. Her toppled over and lay in the grass, waiting for death to take him. But death didn't come for him, oh no, instead he felt a slight tingling in his arms. When he looked down he noticed the gashes had become smaller, as though they were healing. Onigumo growled again and watched as his wounds slowly closed until all that remained was dried blood where the wounds had been. Onigumo sighed and lay there for hours starting at the sky. As the sun started to set, he got up and continued walking. He walked down a small path that looked like it was rarely used. It led into an unfamiliar forest by the stream. Shortly after starting on this path, he came across an old hut. It was still in good shape, although he could tell from the smell that no one had lived here in years. Seeing as he had to nowhere to go, he decided to make this small hut his new home. No one would bother him here, hell no one really knew him. He would start a new life with a new name and learn to control these demons within. He pondered for a while and came up with the perfect name.

"From now on, I shall be known as Naraku. Onigumo is no more." With those words, he set about fixing up the small hut that was to become his home.

He wroked for hours, fixing the roof and the walls of the hut. Afterwards he gathered some wood and made a small fire. Then he went to the stream and gathered some water. He heard a rustling in the bushes and went to investigate. Seeing a small rabbit run out of the bush reminded him how hungry he was. He pulled his small knife out and stalked the poor creature. A pitiful squeal was heard, then nothing. The man now known as Naraku walked back to his home with the small animal slung over his shoulder. As he cleaned and gutted it he made plans to start his training. He carefully cut the rabbit meat into chunks and put them in a small pot for stew.

'I will learn to control these demons, I will not let them control me. I will beat this! I will not harn another innocent ever again.' He mused for a while longer until the smell of the stew brought him back to reality. As he ate, he vowed to train hard. 'I swear, i will not be run by these demons. I will right these wrongs. Never again.'

The following morning set out towards the nearest village for supplies and some weapons. He needed a new sword and some weapons to hunt with. Not to mention he needed some more pots and other furnishings for his home. He was lucky that he had found a pot and several bowls and cups inside the hut as well as a bucket to fetch water with outside. He was glad he still had most of his wealth, if not he would have had to steal everything. 'Then again, stealing wouldn't be too hard for me,' he mused.

It took almost an hour to reach the village. He walked around and made a mental list of supplies to buy. He purchased a small cart as well as a mule to transport his supplies. He bought the necessary provisions, along with a few kimonos. He loaded everything onto his cart and set off for his hut in the forest where no one knew him or the things he had done.

Akuma lauged as he watched the whole ordeal. 'So my plan has worked. Onigumo has murdered Kikyo, and now InuYasha is sealed to a tree. But that wench still has the jewel. I must find a way to get it.' He watched Onigumo makes his declaration with interest. 'Naraku huh? This may work out better than I originally planned. If he can get the jewel I will have complete control over him. He will be my little puppet.' Akuma laughed evilly at this thought. 'I will make him my puppet, mine to control as I see fit. All I need is that damn jewel.'

"Akui!", he barked.

The tiger youkai scrambled to his master's office. "Yes my lord?"

"Find any information on the scared jewel. I want to know anything and everything."

"Yes my lord," with that, Akui turned and left.

'Good, with Akui gathering information I shall be able to obtain the jewel quicker.'

Kutsu stood in the shadows of his master's office. 'So, he wants the jewel does he? We shall see about that.' Kutsu silently snuck out of the office and back to his quarters. He walked over to the small desk in the corner and began to work out a plan of escape. 'I will be free, or die trying. I refuse to be a part of this any longer. Akuma may have my brother under his power, but he will not control me any longer. I must find a way to break his spell over Akui as well. I will not leave him with this monster.' Kutsu looked over the map of the castle he had made. He scoured the map, looking for any way to escape.

Finding a route of escape proved to be difficult, but after about 3 hours of searching he found one. There were a series of hidden coridors and passages within the castle and several underground tunnels. One of the hidden passages began in the kitchen area, in the back of the pantry. It led behind Akui and Kutsu's rooms and ended in the dungeon of the castle. From there they could take one of the many underground tunnels that led outside. After getting outside, he could use his powers to get away. With his escape route in place, Kutsu set about finding a way to break Akuma's spell over Akui.

After trying to find a way to break the spell for nearly an hour, Kutsu sighed. 'This is proving more difficult than i thought. Akuma's spells aren't very strong, but they are hard to break. It would take all of my power to break the spell. There has got to be a way. What am I missing?' Then he thought of it. 'Akui's connection to me is strong. If I am feeling any strong emotions it will weaken the spell and he will feel it. So, if i remind him of the pain Akuma has caused us it may break the spell.' Kutsu laughed to himself, 'You think you've won Akuma but just you wait. You will get what is coming to you. I will see to it that you do.' With his plan in place, Kutsu sighed and made his way to his bed. 'Now to wait until the perfect time.'
