Chapter 1
Seven years now. When had time slipped their grasps? Time had gone so quickly, but there were times where it was dry and meaningless. Seven years since Naraku was alive, since Kikyo was put to rest, since Kohaku was returned to the land of the living, with Sesshomaru's help… seven years since Kagome left this world
But, this was expected of.
After the Shikon Jewel was purified, she felt as though there was no reason to stay in this time. And now the group was practically still together, but missed the young miko from the future.
Over the years, Sango and Miroku did get married and had a set of twins, a boy and a girl. Inuyasha stayed the way he was, and continued to travel, constantly back and forth between his place in the village and Sango's and Miroku's home, where he was always welcome. Shippo grew up but still stayed with Inuyasha.
“Nothing more than just memories.” Was the thought that ran through his mind every day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Seven Years Ago~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now that day, seven years ago, was a dark and cold day. The sky was not its usual blue, but a cold grey color, surprising for late summer. Well, the time of the battle with Naraku, was deadly. Sango was left unconscious after being hit in the gut by her on weapon that was repelled back to her. Miroku was doing his best to stay strong, after sucking up so mush poisonous insects in the wind tunnel, down on his knees and holding his right wrist. Preventing the rest of his arm from turning purple and black.
Kagome was practically unconscious herself, after taking a blow in the head and rib cage from the tentacles full of miasma Naraku released into her. She would have more damage, had Inuyasha not come to her rescue, taking a small portion of damage himself. Kagome fond the strength to stand up and set up her final arrow then release. The ray of bright white light was straight and true, just as always. Aimed directly at the jewel that rested in his cold ice heart.
Piercing it, her powers in the arrow, instantly purified the jewel, as well as his body. The next thing she knew, she heard Inuyasha's voice scream her name, and then… Kagome blacked out.
~~~~~~~~Next day~~~~~~~~
The battle the day before had finally blown over. The Shikon jewel was finally complete and everyone was recovering and outside enjoying the clear day.
Well… almost every one. Kagome was within Kaede's hut… still out cold. Inuyasha stood over her like her guardian angle. Hoping… praying that she would be alright. Though she showed no change or sign of getting better.
Obviously after ours, Inuyasha's words were finally heard, because Kagome finally woke up a few hours after she was given some herbal medicine. She shifted and moaned in displeasure as she did her best to sit up with out hurting herself even more than she already was, she brought her hand up to her head, as if trying to ease the pain just by touching. The injuries had almost completely healed due to Kaede's spiritual powers sealing them up. She felt a warm arm circle her, looking over at the man she loved as he pulled her into a half embrace.
“Did we do it?” She asked in a low voice. He heard it none the less.
“Yeah, we did. That damn bastard won't be hurting anyone anymore.” He said with a gentle smile.
She returned it, but it quickly slipped away, as she shifted once more and pushed her self up. Inuyasha did his best to help her up.
Kagome managed to get up and start walking outside. She looked behind her, signaling him to come with her. Inuyasha came up to her side and allowed her to lean against his body for support, since she was still slightly weak.
This was running through her mind for quite sometime now, and now everything was clear now. They came up to the well that had transported them back and forth so many times this past two years. And now that the jewel was complete, there was no point in staying. Kagome made her way to sit on the lip.
“Well…” She didn't know what to say.
Inuyasha took his place next to her, but she continued, “There really is no reason for me to stay… is there?” She asked as she looked over at him. He looked as though he wanted to say something, but couldn't find the right words. So he stayed quiet.
His eyes met hers.
His honey toned eyes showed surprise as if he forgot that's what he's been longing for. Kagome wanted to know what he was thinking, but he abruptly said, “We'd better get you back home.”
Kagome was surprised and hurt at his sudden change of mood. He seemed angry—and was quiet. Not usual for Inuyasha!
He had to take Kagome back through the well to her era because with out the jewel she'd be stuck.
But it still pains her; after all, she loves him. Inuyasha gently grabbed her by the waist and jumped into the well with her. Kagome couldn't help but love being close to feel Inuyasha's warmth and strength, even though it was not the way she would prefer.
Falling through the sparkling porthole was enough to bring tears to her eyes. This is it. At the end off the well's aperture she'd have to say goodbye to him forever.
The two of them finally landed at the bottom of the well in Kagome's era. Inuyasha jumped up with Kagome clinging to his back for perhaps the last time.
He set her down softly and she felt reluctant to let her go.
Out of fear, she thought, fear of rejection. Kagome didn't want him to tell her he doesn't love her and that he never has. She didn't want to hear that she's been nothing to him but a finder for the jewel shards and now that the jewel is whole he doesn't need her anymore.
She met his golden gaze with hers. He stared at her steadily but still said nothing. Why won't he say something?
If this is the last time she's going to see him than she can't help it. Kagome dropped her yellow back pack full of supplies and threw her arms around him to hug him tightly, her unshed tears now leaked from her eyes as she tried her hardest not to sob.
Slowly Inuyasha's strong arms enveloped her and Kagome felt him tremble.
For a second longer she allowed herself to hold him. To feel his heat and strength pressed close to her. Kagome then pulled away abruptly. Not wanting to feel his rejection when he leaves her, she grabbed her bag and ran up the stairs with what ever strength she had up the small house that held the well and out the door, leaving Inuyasha to stare after her, her heart remaining there with him.
~~~~~
She ran to her room and through herself onto her bed, and released the tears she didn't want him to see. Another hour went by and her family had left her alone, knowing perfectly well what had transpired… she had finally said goodbye to her heroic adventure.
She turned over onto her back and looked up at the ceiling, bringing her gaze back down to the pearl that sat on her school uniform. She picked it up and turned it between her forefinger and thumb.
“Nothing more than just memories now… and its all because of you sacred jewel.”
