N/A: It took me a week but I finally finished the first chapter but its finally posted. Yes there are alot of songs but bare with me if you don’t know how the actual song goes just read the lyrics that’s the main thing. I hope you like it
Chapter 1: Closure
As Kagome was filling out her college application on her dinning room table, she didn't know exactly what she was feeling and it only made it harder.
Thinking, questioning whether or not it was worth it, worth risking an encounter with him.
They had always planned on going to Shikon University because it was extremely well known for its musical talent and it was basically the only college worth going to.
But it was because it was so popular that their standards were impeccable. To get in you not only needed to use your intellect and fill out your application to make yourself seem as if you were the best but you also were required to send either a tape, CD, or DVD of you performing sometimes various times for various talents and of course that in itself took months to prepare for whether you were rehearsing over and over trying to make yourself sound perfectly or looking for the time where you sounded perfect. It didn't matter as long as the University where you are at your strongest so they would know where you are and how much work you would need, but of course like any college they only accepted the best.
Kagome knew she had been working hard on her music career almost all her life but she also knew someone else who had been pursuing a music career equally as hard. That was her one and only fear, that he was still the same person, that he was still as passionate about music as the day she met him if so, then if he had the slightest say in it he would without a doubt be at Shikon University. She knew he would have no problem getting in after all he was unbelievably cunning and if that wasn't enough he was the most passionate drummer she had ever seen.
There it was the one word that seemed to describe Youko Kurama perfectly: passionate.
It was who he was and what he was about, how he viewed life and how he lived it. To him life was not worth living without passion. And the passion he had for his music was undeniable, he would spend hours playing. He claimed it was the only way he could truly express himself and at one glance at him playing, no one had any doubts about it.
Kagome knew his drumming was reason enough for him to be there, but there was so much more to Youko than just a drummer, he was also an amazing singer/songwriter. He could spent hours locked in his room with nothing but his guitar, paper and a pen. Granted the guitar wasn't Youko's best instrument but when it came to writing songs he used nothing but his trusty acoustic. And by the end of the day he would have written a song that you would never forget.
The thought of Youko writing allowed the memory of her 15th birthday to flood her mind once again.
**Flashback**
Kagome was tapping her fingers becoming more inpatient by the minute. With the thought of Youko forgetting her birthday, she turned to Inuyasha with a desperate look in her eyes. "What if he forgot or ignored it?, what if I'm not worth wasting his time?, what if-" that’s when Inuyasha couldn't stand listening to her ramble anymore. "Kagome, clam down I swear, unless Youko is strapped down on a bed in the hospital dying he will be here"
Unfortunately that only managed to make Kagome feel worse. "What if he's-" now it was getting annoying "Kagome listen to me and listen carefully, Youko is fine, he will be here even if he-" When Kagome opened her mouth to talk, Inuyasha put his index finger up to her mouth signaling her to be quiet. "You who what forget I said that, he'll be here just leave it at that so stop worrying your pretty little head off, its your birthday your the last person on Earth who should be sad" Inuyasha gently put his hands around her head stared at her deep sapphire eyes and planted a light kiss on her forehead. Kagome smiled " Thanks" she said in a voice barley above a whisper.
"No problem, Just remember Kagome it's your birthday so enjoy it" When Inuyasha saw a tear straying down her face he instinctively reached out a head to wipe it off her face but was stopped when Kagome leapt forward to hug him. At first he was surprised by her sudden movement but then he graciously returned the hug. After a minute or two Kagome pulled back to look at her best friend. Their eyes locked and even though she was still worried about her crush, she still managed to give Inuyasha a somewhat saddened smile.
Kagome sighed and looked at her watch.” Are you sure you told him to meet us at the Sunset Club ?, there are plenty of other clubs in Tokyo you know." Kagome could tell that Inuyasha was getting irritated by her constant questioning but she needed to be sure. "Kag, he'll be here ok, just lighten up until then''
Youko was so gonna owe him for keeping Kag together until his surprise. 'Damn it Youko, I don’t care what you have planned, but if you don’t get your ass over here now I'll beat you so hard you'll still be in the hospital by Kags next birthday' Inuyasha was snapped out of his mental threatening when Kagome spoke up. "Your probably righ-" Kagome was interrupted when her silver-haired crush took the stage. There he was, guy she had been waiting for all day, was here, at her birthday party, on stage, with a guitar in his hands. Suddenly she was filled with total and utter confusion. "Hey Yash, what’s he doing?" Kagome turned to see Inuyasha completely unfazed. "Shh" he whispered in her ear "Just watch" Kagome could only stand there completely stunned as she watched the next events unfold.” I’d like to dedicate this song to a very special girl in my life, Happy Birthday Kag." With those few words Youko started strumming his guitar.

By the time Youko was finished everyone in the room was either crying or cheering. Throughout the song Kagome was processing everything he was saying, never taking his eyes off him.
When Youko started walking off the stage he was attacked by Kagome's lips crushing his own. Before Kagome could realize what she had just done she felt Youko’s tongue slip into her mouth. A sensation unlike any other she had felt before swept her body. She hadn't realized how much she wanted him until that moment. She wrapped her hands around his neck as he dipped her head back and deepened the kiss, knowing fully well that at any given moment her legs would collapse. While their tongues battled for dominance they were also trying to memorize everything about one another.
Finally lack of oxygen hit Kagome and she broke the kiss. Panting audibly Kagome rested her forehead on his, still trying to comprehend what had just happened. Youko had found himself at loss for words, never had a kiss affected him that way. He had intended on kissing Kagome later that night but had planned on taking it slow and savoring her but there was something about her that made him crave her, almost addicting, and it caused him to what little control he had left and ravish her. Finally when Youko regained his lost breath, he lifted his chin and grasped her lips in a single chaste kiss.
He smirked happily "Gee Kag, maybe I should write songs about you more often" He teased but, he saw her eyes water he instantly became worried. "Kag are-" Her arms still wrapped around his neck as she buried her head in his chest trying, but failing desperately to hold back the tears. It took him a second to process, but when he did he put one hand at the back of her head and snaked the other around her waist possessively.
Then she whispered the 3 words he'd been longing to hear since the day they met. "I Love You" His heart skipped a beat. When he didn’t answer Kagome began to worry then she felt him take a deep breath before he answered "I Love You Too" After those words left his mouth the rest of the night blurred together and all she remembered was never leaving his side.
**End of Flashback**
"Kag, Earth to Kag, anybody home?" When Kagome finally snapped back from her trip down memory lane, she found Inuyasha waving his hands aimlessly in front of her. "Kag, are you alright?" Inuyasha wasn't too worried it had become normal for Kagome to drift off, but it hurt him non the less knowing she was still in pain, "No, but then again when was I ever." Inuyasha just shrugged and sat down next to her.
"Kag, I managed to find a video for the application" When those words left his mouth Inuyasha started having second thoughts.” Great lets see it" Inuyasha pulled out a CD from his jacket pocket as slow as Kagome would allow before she snatched it from his hand. “Thanks" She said as she smiled her usual half hearted smile and walked in her living room. 'God what am I doing?' Inuyasha was practically shaking when Kagome inserted the DVD and walked towards her couch. “You coming Yash?" Inuyasha nodded and walked to join her on the couch.
What was left of Kagome's smile instantly left her face when she saw her younger self up on stage. 'Our first gig' Kagome's heart skipped a beat when her eyes landed on the silver-haired drummer. "This song is called 'Who Knows' and it was written by a person very dear to me" Kagome's younger self looked back to Youko, Who was grinning like an idiot and she was loving every second of it. While her younger self was smiling Kagome was desperately holding back tears and her younger self reminding her of how she used to be didn't help.

As 15 year old Kagome was smiling like nothing else mattered, a tear fell down 19 year old Kag.

By end of the song tears were flowing freely down Kagome’s face. She had her eyes glued to Youko the entire time, looking at the way things used to be with envy.
Inuyasha felt guilt run through his entire body, feeling a stab in the heart for every tear that fell down his best friend's face, knowing he was to blame for her pain. When Kagome turned to face him, he could swear his heart stopped. Indescribable pain coursed through every fiber of his being and it took everything inside of him just to look her in the eyes, eyes that were once cheerful and carefree. Kagome's eyes had lost their spark long ago and he knew it well and even though it hurt him to see her smile and know that she didn’t mean it, it hurt him more to see her red-eyed (N/A: let me explain when you cry long enough the area around your eyes becomes reddish, Kagome’s eyes aren't literally red)and crying.
"Kag, I-" He had no clue what to say, He could only watch as his best friend cried, feeling completely helpless. “Why" Kagome was completely devastated, just when she was beginning to be able to go days without remembering him and bursting into tears, Inuyasha had to bring him back into her life. "Why, why would you do this, Why would you wait until I was actually making progress after almost 3 yrs then bring him back to destroy everything, Why, do you really that me that much?" Inuyasha couldn't believe what she was saying, did she really believe that, that after everything they'd been through that he'd do something that cruel.
"Kagome, I love you, your my best friend, practically my sister, if you think that after all we've been through, that I would deliberately hurt you, you're dead wrong. Kagome, you've got to understand that I want what’s best for you, and it doesn’t get any better than Shikon, I want you at that college Kag, by whatever means necessary" Inuyasha held her hands in his. Finally her crying ceased and she smiled a sad smile. "I know Yash, and I appreciate the effort, But I refuse to get in because of him" As hard as Kagome tried she couldn’t help but sound bitter." Kagome listen, whether or not you like it that’s the best you've ever played and that’s what's gonna get you there" She still wasn’t convinced, Kagome knew she wouldn’t be able to stay there knowing she was there because of him. “No, I cant" She paused trying to see if there was any other way.
"I'll just sing a new song" Kagome knew that sooner or later she'd have to. Inuyasha, as much as he believed in her incredible ability to write knew that there was still 1 problem. "Kag, you haven’t touched your guitar in years, do you really think you can just pick up where you left off?" Kagome sighed, she knew Inuyasha would support her in anything she did but sometimes he needed to trust her, trust that she knew what she was capable of, trust that the connection between her guitar and herself was indestructible and that no amount of time could change that.
Inuyasha watched as Kagome went up the stairs of her apartment towards her room, then followed. The first thing he saw when he walked in her room was her camcorder, flying at him. he looked at her questionably as she picked up her acoustic and left the room. Inuyasha once again followed her out as she headed for the front door, turned o her coat hanger and put on a leather jacket over her red tank top. Then she opened the door. "I guess we'll just have to find out" she said under her breath and left, as Inuyasha trailed behind her.

Youko sighed as he looked down at the bustling city that was New York, from the edge of his balcony. 'Finally made it' Youko couldn’t believe that after all those years he was finally there, well not officially, he hadn’t received his acceptance letter, but he really didn’t have much doubt. He knew he had a high chance of getting in S.U.N.Y. (N/A: I didn’t do it intentionally but Shikon University of New York is apparently suny. Again I didn’t do it on purpose) But it didn’t really matter anymore, nothing mattered anymore.
He could hear Kuronue’s footsteps behind him. "You sure we should've come this early" Youko kept the same tone as usual. He turned his head slightly to look at his best friend. He was wearing his signature black hat, a black shirt and jeans. Kuronue just shrugged at Youko's comment. " I wanted to get to know the city, speaking of which, I heard there was this great club and that alot of people go there to film their video application for S.U., so I was thinking we go check out the competition"
If Youko even heard what Kuronue had just said he made no sign of it. That’s how he had always been, or at least for as long as Kuronue had known him. "Nah I think I'll just hang here, you go on tell me if you see anything interesting" Youko turned to look once again at the mesmerizing city below him. "Okay, whatever be back in a while" Kuronue turned around and left Youko's room, moments later Youko could hear the front door open and close.
Youko, after watching the city for nearly an hour, walked to his bag which he had yet to unpack, and took out his notebook and a pen. Then he freed his guitar from it's case and sat down on his bed. Youko Kurama then did the only thing that had sparked his interest in years, he wrote yet another song.

When Kagome arrived at Club Sunset after a 5 minute walk, she just went inside not bothering to stand in line. She waved at the security guard, Kouga and went in search of Miroku. Inuyasha was getting annoyed ' what is she trying to prove' When he saw Kouga, Inuyasha's mood immediately got worse " Hey mutt-face what’s wrong with Kagome, she's acting weird'' Inuyasha mentally groaned, he so didn’t have time for this. "Doesn’t involve you"
Inuyasha walked right past Kouga and let himself in. He scanned the room for Kagome and found her talking to the DJ, Miroku. It suddenly clicked in his head, she was gonna perform after practically 3 years, she was gonna try to put Youko behind her, was that what she thought she was doing; putting him behind he, did she think that playing a couple of songs would allow her to move on. Inuyasha walked towards them.
"So what do you think?" Kagome pleaded. Miroku had been friends with Kagome and Inuyasha for about 2 yrs and she was like a sister to him, he could tell that she had been hurt in the past and wanted nothing more than to help her. He turned to look at Inuyasha, asking his opinion. "She's a hell of a singer" ' don’t know if I can say the same for her guitar though' Inuyasha finished in his head, he still wasn’t sure this was a good idea or that it would truly help Kag, but she needed closure and it was worth a shot.
Miroku was surprised he had never actually heard Kagome sing but he would take Inuyasha's word for it. "Well seeing as how picky Yasha is about music, it would seem your pretty good Kag" Miroku pointed to a door to the left of the stage. "See that door, go inside take the stairs and open the door to your right and set up, be ready to go onstage in 10'' Once again Kagome smiled a sad smile and hugged Miroku, she let him go and whispered a thanks.
"Uh, Yash" She turned to face Inuyasha. "I’ll be up front" Kagome nodded and walked to the door that lead backstage.

Even though the line went faster than could be expected and it only took about 5 minutes of waiting it was still 5 minutes too long. Kuronue wasn’t exactly what you'd call patient, that was Youko's department. Kuronue figured that anything you had to wait for was a waste of time, so needless to say when he got inside Club Sunset he wasn’t exactly happy.
The first thing that caught his attention was the stage, it was huge and he could immediately tell the club was famous for its- for lack of a better word- karaoke. There were 6 ft. speakers on each side of it, a microphone in the center and a stool behind it. As he went to get a better look he noticed silver hair and went towards it. In a matter of seconds he was behind the silver-haired person. “Thought you said you weren’t coming" Kuronue asked the person he believed to be Youko. It was only when the man turned around to see who had asked his such a question did Kuronue notice that it wasn’t his friend, though they looked unbelievably alike.
"Ummm, Who are you?'' Kuronue mentally slapped himself "Oh sorry, my bad, I thought you were someone else" The man just shrugged, turned around and started adjusting his camcorder.
"Hello and welcome to Club Sunset, now bare with me, I've got a lady friend who is applying for S.U., so please help me welcome to the stage the lovely and talented Kagome" Kuronue looked around the room trying to find who had made the announcement that was loud enough to make his ears bleed. His eyes stopped at the DJ, he had black hair which he kept in a short ponytail and was wearing an average purple shirt and black jeans, once he was sure he was the one that mad the ear-shattering announcement, his eyes returned to the stage. 'Kagome huh, lets see what you got sweetheart'

''the lovely and talented Kagome'' That was her cue. As soon as those words left Miroku's mouth Kagome’s heart quickened. She had no clue why but she loved the feeling, the feeling that she was doing something somewhat adventurous, the feeling that she was doing something worth doing, no matter the consequences.
After a couple of seconds she took a deep breath, and walked onstage her acoustic in hand and sat down in front of the mic. She scanned the room for Inuyasha, she found him in a reasonable location in front. " I wrote this song a couple of years ago, its called 'Skin''' With that statement said she started strumming her guitar.

By the end of the song Kagome was failing at holding back her tears, she looked at Inuyasha, who was still recording, his eyes filled with concern as he nodded. Kagome took a deep breath. ''Thank you'' Her voice cracked as she whispered into the mic. And with that said Kagome stepped backstage where she let tears flow freely.

Kuronue just stood there stunned by the heartbreaking performance. never had he seen so much intensity in one song. There was no doubt that he would see her again in a couple of months until then he had seen enough for one night and left for his apartment to tell his roommate about his discovery.
In a matter of minutes Kuronue was in front of Youko, who was sitting on his bed writing in his notebook with his acoustic laying next to him as he had been for the past hour. “Anything interesting" Youko didn’t even bother looking up "Yeah, There was this girl. Youko, you wouldn’t believe how talented she was, her song was so intense and she sounded so heartbroken" Youko still didn’t seem to care the least by his friends discovery.
"Name?" Youko asked but wasn’t really interested "Shit" Kuronue hit his head with the palm of his hand. Youko didn’t really mind his friends lapse of sanity he just continued writing. Kuronue was both mentally and physically hitting himself trying to remember her name. 'her name, god what was her name?' Finally when Youko felt satisfied with his song he put his notebook down and looked up at Kuronue. Kuronue was getting angrier by the second until he finally gave up ''Sorry the best I can come up with is that it started with a K''
Youko still looked unfazed he really didn’t care anyways it didn’t concern him. “Whatever" Kuronue sighed "Well I'm gonna turn in, G'night" Youko looked at his watch, it was still early but then again Kuronue never was too good at staying up late. "Night" With that as a good bye Kuronue left Youko's room and went for his where soon afterward he drifted to sleep.

When Kagome didn't come out Inuyasha began to worry. Going through the door that Kagome had recently taken, Inuyasha climbed the stairs and opened the door to reveal a crying Kagome. When Inuyasha entered the room he saw Kagome on her knees crying into her hands. Inuyasha rushed to her side and held her in his arms. Kagome put her arms around his neck where she sobbed into his shoulder. Inuyasha rubbed her back trying desperately to comfort the crying girl.
After about half an hour Kagome, had cried herself to sleep in Inuyasha's arms. Inuyasha sighed as he carried the sleeping girl in his arms to her apartment where he laid her down on her bed. He bent down and place a kiss on her forehead. "Goodnight Kag" After he was sure she was sleeping peacefully he locked the door and left for his own apartment where he too fell asleep.

Kagome knew his drumming was reason enough for him to be there, but there was so much more to Youko than just a drummer, he was also an amazing singer/songwriter. He could spent hours locked in his room with nothing but his guitar, paper and a pen. Granted the guitar wasn't Youko's best instrument but when it came to writing songs he used nothing but his trusty acoustic. And by the end of the day he would have written a song that you would never forget.
The thought of Youko writing allowed the memory of her 15th birthday to flood her mind once again.
**Flashback**
Kagome was tapping her fingers becoming more inpatient by the minute. With the thought of Youko forgetting her birthday, she turned to Inuyasha with a desperate look in her eyes. "What if he forgot or ignored it?, what if I'm not worth wasting his time?, what if-" that’s when Inuyasha couldn't stand listening to her ramble anymore. "Kagome, clam down I swear, unless Youko is strapped down on a bed in the hospital dying he will be here"
Unfortunately that only managed to make Kagome feel worse. "What if he's-" now it was getting annoying "Kagome listen to me and listen carefully, Youko is fine, he will be here even if he-" When Kagome opened her mouth to talk, Inuyasha put his index finger up to her mouth signaling her to be quiet. "You who what forget I said that, he'll be here just leave it at that so stop worrying your pretty little head off, its your birthday your the last person on Earth who should be sad" Inuyasha gently put his hands around her head stared at her deep sapphire eyes and planted a light kiss on her forehead. Kagome smiled " Thanks" she said in a voice barley above a whisper.
"No problem, Just remember Kagome it's your birthday so enjoy it" When Inuyasha saw a tear straying down her face he instinctively reached out a head to wipe it off her face but was stopped when Kagome leapt forward to hug him. At first he was surprised by her sudden movement but then he graciously returned the hug. After a minute or two Kagome pulled back to look at her best friend. Their eyes locked and even though she was still worried about her crush, she still managed to give Inuyasha a somewhat saddened smile.
Kagome sighed and looked at her watch.” Are you sure you told him to meet us at the Sunset Club ?, there are plenty of other clubs in Tokyo you know." Kagome could tell that Inuyasha was getting irritated by her constant questioning but she needed to be sure. "Kag, he'll be here ok, just lighten up until then''
Youko was so gonna owe him for keeping Kag together until his surprise. 'Damn it Youko, I don’t care what you have planned, but if you don’t get your ass over here now I'll beat you so hard you'll still be in the hospital by Kags next birthday' Inuyasha was snapped out of his mental threatening when Kagome spoke up. "Your probably righ-" Kagome was interrupted when her silver-haired crush took the stage. There he was, guy she had been waiting for all day, was here, at her birthday party, on stage, with a guitar in his hands. Suddenly she was filled with total and utter confusion. "Hey Yash, what’s he doing?" Kagome turned to see Inuyasha completely unfazed. "Shh" he whispered in her ear "Just watch" Kagome could only stand there completely stunned as she watched the next events unfold.” I’d like to dedicate this song to a very special girl in my life, Happy Birthday Kag." With those few words Youko started strumming his guitar.

By the time Youko was finished everyone in the room was either crying or cheering. Throughout the song Kagome was processing everything he was saying, never taking his eyes off him.
When Youko started walking off the stage he was attacked by Kagome's lips crushing his own. Before Kagome could realize what she had just done she felt Youko’s tongue slip into her mouth. A sensation unlike any other she had felt before swept her body. She hadn't realized how much she wanted him until that moment. She wrapped her hands around his neck as he dipped her head back and deepened the kiss, knowing fully well that at any given moment her legs would collapse. While their tongues battled for dominance they were also trying to memorize everything about one another.
Finally lack of oxygen hit Kagome and she broke the kiss. Panting audibly Kagome rested her forehead on his, still trying to comprehend what had just happened. Youko had found himself at loss for words, never had a kiss affected him that way. He had intended on kissing Kagome later that night but had planned on taking it slow and savoring her but there was something about her that made him crave her, almost addicting, and it caused him to what little control he had left and ravish her. Finally when Youko regained his lost breath, he lifted his chin and grasped her lips in a single chaste kiss.
He smirked happily "Gee Kag, maybe I should write songs about you more often" He teased but, he saw her eyes water he instantly became worried. "Kag are-" Her arms still wrapped around his neck as she buried her head in his chest trying, but failing desperately to hold back the tears. It took him a second to process, but when he did he put one hand at the back of her head and snaked the other around her waist possessively.
Then she whispered the 3 words he'd been longing to hear since the day they met. "I Love You" His heart skipped a beat. When he didn’t answer Kagome began to worry then she felt him take a deep breath before he answered "I Love You Too" After those words left his mouth the rest of the night blurred together and all she remembered was never leaving his side.
**End of Flashback**
"Kag, Earth to Kag, anybody home?" When Kagome finally snapped back from her trip down memory lane, she found Inuyasha waving his hands aimlessly in front of her. "Kag, are you alright?" Inuyasha wasn't too worried it had become normal for Kagome to drift off, but it hurt him non the less knowing she was still in pain, "No, but then again when was I ever." Inuyasha just shrugged and sat down next to her.
"Kag, I managed to find a video for the application" When those words left his mouth Inuyasha started having second thoughts.” Great lets see it" Inuyasha pulled out a CD from his jacket pocket as slow as Kagome would allow before she snatched it from his hand. “Thanks" She said as she smiled her usual half hearted smile and walked in her living room. 'God what am I doing?' Inuyasha was practically shaking when Kagome inserted the DVD and walked towards her couch. “You coming Yash?" Inuyasha nodded and walked to join her on the couch.
What was left of Kagome's smile instantly left her face when she saw her younger self up on stage. 'Our first gig' Kagome's heart skipped a beat when her eyes landed on the silver-haired drummer. "This song is called 'Who Knows' and it was written by a person very dear to me" Kagome's younger self looked back to Youko, Who was grinning like an idiot and she was loving every second of it. While her younger self was smiling Kagome was desperately holding back tears and her younger self reminding her of how she used to be didn't help.

By end of the song tears were flowing freely down Kagome’s face. She had her eyes glued to Youko the entire time, looking at the way things used to be with envy.
Inuyasha felt guilt run through his entire body, feeling a stab in the heart for every tear that fell down his best friend's face, knowing he was to blame for her pain. When Kagome turned to face him, he could swear his heart stopped. Indescribable pain coursed through every fiber of his being and it took everything inside of him just to look her in the eyes, eyes that were once cheerful and carefree. Kagome's eyes had lost their spark long ago and he knew it well and even though it hurt him to see her smile and know that she didn’t mean it, it hurt him more to see her red-eyed (N/A: let me explain when you cry long enough the area around your eyes becomes reddish, Kagome’s eyes aren't literally red)and crying.
"Kag, I-" He had no clue what to say, He could only watch as his best friend cried, feeling completely helpless. “Why" Kagome was completely devastated, just when she was beginning to be able to go days without remembering him and bursting into tears, Inuyasha had to bring him back into her life. "Why, why would you do this, Why would you wait until I was actually making progress after almost 3 yrs then bring him back to destroy everything, Why, do you really that me that much?" Inuyasha couldn't believe what she was saying, did she really believe that, that after everything they'd been through that he'd do something that cruel.
"Kagome, I love you, your my best friend, practically my sister, if you think that after all we've been through, that I would deliberately hurt you, you're dead wrong. Kagome, you've got to understand that I want what’s best for you, and it doesn’t get any better than Shikon, I want you at that college Kag, by whatever means necessary" Inuyasha held her hands in his. Finally her crying ceased and she smiled a sad smile. "I know Yash, and I appreciate the effort, But I refuse to get in because of him" As hard as Kagome tried she couldn’t help but sound bitter." Kagome listen, whether or not you like it that’s the best you've ever played and that’s what's gonna get you there" She still wasn’t convinced, Kagome knew she wouldn’t be able to stay there knowing she was there because of him. “No, I cant" She paused trying to see if there was any other way.
"I'll just sing a new song" Kagome knew that sooner or later she'd have to. Inuyasha, as much as he believed in her incredible ability to write knew that there was still 1 problem. "Kag, you haven’t touched your guitar in years, do you really think you can just pick up where you left off?" Kagome sighed, she knew Inuyasha would support her in anything she did but sometimes he needed to trust her, trust that she knew what she was capable of, trust that the connection between her guitar and herself was indestructible and that no amount of time could change that.
Inuyasha watched as Kagome went up the stairs of her apartment towards her room, then followed. The first thing he saw when he walked in her room was her camcorder, flying at him. he looked at her questionably as she picked up her acoustic and left the room. Inuyasha once again followed her out as she headed for the front door, turned o her coat hanger and put on a leather jacket over her red tank top. Then she opened the door. "I guess we'll just have to find out" she said under her breath and left, as Inuyasha trailed behind her.

Youko sighed as he looked down at the bustling city that was New York, from the edge of his balcony. 'Finally made it' Youko couldn’t believe that after all those years he was finally there, well not officially, he hadn’t received his acceptance letter, but he really didn’t have much doubt. He knew he had a high chance of getting in S.U.N.Y. (N/A: I didn’t do it intentionally but Shikon University of New York is apparently suny. Again I didn’t do it on purpose) But it didn’t really matter anymore, nothing mattered anymore.
He could hear Kuronue’s footsteps behind him. "You sure we should've come this early" Youko kept the same tone as usual. He turned his head slightly to look at his best friend. He was wearing his signature black hat, a black shirt and jeans. Kuronue just shrugged at Youko's comment. " I wanted to get to know the city, speaking of which, I heard there was this great club and that alot of people go there to film their video application for S.U., so I was thinking we go check out the competition"
If Youko even heard what Kuronue had just said he made no sign of it. That’s how he had always been, or at least for as long as Kuronue had known him. "Nah I think I'll just hang here, you go on tell me if you see anything interesting" Youko turned to look once again at the mesmerizing city below him. "Okay, whatever be back in a while" Kuronue turned around and left Youko's room, moments later Youko could hear the front door open and close.
Youko, after watching the city for nearly an hour, walked to his bag which he had yet to unpack, and took out his notebook and a pen. Then he freed his guitar from it's case and sat down on his bed. Youko Kurama then did the only thing that had sparked his interest in years, he wrote yet another song.

When Kagome arrived at Club Sunset after a 5 minute walk, she just went inside not bothering to stand in line. She waved at the security guard, Kouga and went in search of Miroku. Inuyasha was getting annoyed ' what is she trying to prove' When he saw Kouga, Inuyasha's mood immediately got worse " Hey mutt-face what’s wrong with Kagome, she's acting weird'' Inuyasha mentally groaned, he so didn’t have time for this. "Doesn’t involve you"
Inuyasha walked right past Kouga and let himself in. He scanned the room for Kagome and found her talking to the DJ, Miroku. It suddenly clicked in his head, she was gonna perform after practically 3 years, she was gonna try to put Youko behind her, was that what she thought she was doing; putting him behind he, did she think that playing a couple of songs would allow her to move on. Inuyasha walked towards them.
"So what do you think?" Kagome pleaded. Miroku had been friends with Kagome and Inuyasha for about 2 yrs and she was like a sister to him, he could tell that she had been hurt in the past and wanted nothing more than to help her. He turned to look at Inuyasha, asking his opinion. "She's a hell of a singer" ' don’t know if I can say the same for her guitar though' Inuyasha finished in his head, he still wasn’t sure this was a good idea or that it would truly help Kag, but she needed closure and it was worth a shot.
Miroku was surprised he had never actually heard Kagome sing but he would take Inuyasha's word for it. "Well seeing as how picky Yasha is about music, it would seem your pretty good Kag" Miroku pointed to a door to the left of the stage. "See that door, go inside take the stairs and open the door to your right and set up, be ready to go onstage in 10'' Once again Kagome smiled a sad smile and hugged Miroku, she let him go and whispered a thanks.
"Uh, Yash" She turned to face Inuyasha. "I’ll be up front" Kagome nodded and walked to the door that lead backstage.

Even though the line went faster than could be expected and it only took about 5 minutes of waiting it was still 5 minutes too long. Kuronue wasn’t exactly what you'd call patient, that was Youko's department. Kuronue figured that anything you had to wait for was a waste of time, so needless to say when he got inside Club Sunset he wasn’t exactly happy.
The first thing that caught his attention was the stage, it was huge and he could immediately tell the club was famous for its- for lack of a better word- karaoke. There were 6 ft. speakers on each side of it, a microphone in the center and a stool behind it. As he went to get a better look he noticed silver hair and went towards it. In a matter of seconds he was behind the silver-haired person. “Thought you said you weren’t coming" Kuronue asked the person he believed to be Youko. It was only when the man turned around to see who had asked his such a question did Kuronue notice that it wasn’t his friend, though they looked unbelievably alike.
"Ummm, Who are you?'' Kuronue mentally slapped himself "Oh sorry, my bad, I thought you were someone else" The man just shrugged, turned around and started adjusting his camcorder.
"Hello and welcome to Club Sunset, now bare with me, I've got a lady friend who is applying for S.U., so please help me welcome to the stage the lovely and talented Kagome" Kuronue looked around the room trying to find who had made the announcement that was loud enough to make his ears bleed. His eyes stopped at the DJ, he had black hair which he kept in a short ponytail and was wearing an average purple shirt and black jeans, once he was sure he was the one that mad the ear-shattering announcement, his eyes returned to the stage. 'Kagome huh, lets see what you got sweetheart'

''the lovely and talented Kagome'' That was her cue. As soon as those words left Miroku's mouth Kagome’s heart quickened. She had no clue why but she loved the feeling, the feeling that she was doing something somewhat adventurous, the feeling that she was doing something worth doing, no matter the consequences.
After a couple of seconds she took a deep breath, and walked onstage her acoustic in hand and sat down in front of the mic. She scanned the room for Inuyasha, she found him in a reasonable location in front. " I wrote this song a couple of years ago, its called 'Skin''' With that statement said she started strumming her guitar.

By the end of the song Kagome was failing at holding back her tears, she looked at Inuyasha, who was still recording, his eyes filled with concern as he nodded. Kagome took a deep breath. ''Thank you'' Her voice cracked as she whispered into the mic. And with that said Kagome stepped backstage where she let tears flow freely.

Kuronue just stood there stunned by the heartbreaking performance. never had he seen so much intensity in one song. There was no doubt that he would see her again in a couple of months until then he had seen enough for one night and left for his apartment to tell his roommate about his discovery.
In a matter of minutes Kuronue was in front of Youko, who was sitting on his bed writing in his notebook with his acoustic laying next to him as he had been for the past hour. “Anything interesting" Youko didn’t even bother looking up "Yeah, There was this girl. Youko, you wouldn’t believe how talented she was, her song was so intense and she sounded so heartbroken" Youko still didn’t seem to care the least by his friends discovery.
"Name?" Youko asked but wasn’t really interested "Shit" Kuronue hit his head with the palm of his hand. Youko didn’t really mind his friends lapse of sanity he just continued writing. Kuronue was both mentally and physically hitting himself trying to remember her name. 'her name, god what was her name?' Finally when Youko felt satisfied with his song he put his notebook down and looked up at Kuronue. Kuronue was getting angrier by the second until he finally gave up ''Sorry the best I can come up with is that it started with a K''
Youko still looked unfazed he really didn’t care anyways it didn’t concern him. “Whatever" Kuronue sighed "Well I'm gonna turn in, G'night" Youko looked at his watch, it was still early but then again Kuronue never was too good at staying up late. "Night" With that as a good bye Kuronue left Youko's room and went for his where soon afterward he drifted to sleep.

When Kagome didn't come out Inuyasha began to worry. Going through the door that Kagome had recently taken, Inuyasha climbed the stairs and opened the door to reveal a crying Kagome. When Inuyasha entered the room he saw Kagome on her knees crying into her hands. Inuyasha rushed to her side and held her in his arms. Kagome put her arms around his neck where she sobbed into his shoulder. Inuyasha rubbed her back trying desperately to comfort the crying girl.
After about half an hour Kagome, had cried herself to sleep in Inuyasha's arms. Inuyasha sighed as he carried the sleeping girl in his arms to her apartment where he laid her down on her bed. He bent down and place a kiss on her forehead. "Goodnight Kag" After he was sure she was sleeping peacefully he locked the door and left for his own apartment where he too fell asleep.
