Timeless Love: Chapter Five

They sat there huddled around the camp fire completely exhausted. Once again they had gone three straight days of traveling without any stops except for relieving themselves. They ate bread and dried out meat while walking. They had made it out of the forest a few days back and had been traveling through the expansive countryside. The more they traveled without finding any clues the more they became worried. Said worry was easily seen upon their faces. Bags deep in color were underneath their eyes and sleep did not come, at least not easily, to them because of the worry and panic. The only one who slept was the youngest, unable to expend as much energy as the rest of the group because of his age.

It must be nice to be able to fall asleep, but the poor little guys dreams were plagued with nightmares. He woke frequently, but sleep claimed always claimed him soon after. The others knew he would rather be awake then sleeping because they could tell that the nightmares were wrecking havoc on the boy. The nightmares were worse for him then the panicky traveling was. It seemed as if he slept more than he was awake and while traveling the little guy was passed to each other to carry while he slept.

The more they traveled, the more it seemed as if the mountains got further away. It was like he was taunting them with making their destination unachievable. They wanted to get to her as soon as possible. They wanted to find her and save her from her captor, but the monster who took her made it difficult for them to reach her. Their patience, hope, and energy was running thin. Who knows how much longer they could go on as they were. If they ever caught up with the captor and captive, they wouldn't have the energy to save said captive. They would be slaughtered if they tried to fight, and the captor would have his way and rule all...

“DAMNIT!!!” Inuyasha slammed his fists into the ground. He anger radiated from him and his eyes glowed in the dim campfire light. “Why is he taunting us like this!?”

“Inuyasha... Please be calm. We'll find her, we have to!” Tears fell down Sango's face because she felt that every time she said those words the more they became false.

“But its been weeks! He must of known we would of come after her! Who knows what could of happened! Gah... She could... SHE COULD BE DEAD!”

“INUYASHA! Don't say that! If Shippo were to of heard that, you know what that would do to him!? It would crush him even more. His nightmares would be worse than they already are. He would be all alone again.” Miroku glared at the hanyou who was currently always thinking the worse. Miroku knew why. He liked or maybe even loved the missing girl. He was purposely making himself think she was dead so he wouldn't get his hopes up and then be heartbroken if he did find her dead. That was Miroku's hunch anyway.

“But how cannot it not be true! We know Naraku! He would of stipulated some kind of bargain or sent one of his lackies to us by now if she were still alive. DAMNIT! Why did this have to happen!? WHY!?”

“But why would he kidnap her when all he was going to do was kill her?” Sango asked to no one in particular. It was more like a question to help get the mind thinking of all the possibilities.

“The Shikon no Toma shards she has...” Miroku muttered. “It must be because of the shards.”

“Yes... Miroku is right. It has to be the shards, but why kill her? He could of used her to find the other shards.”

“She used them as a bargain for her life...”

“Huh? What do you mean Inuyasha?”

“He must of given her two options: the shards or her life. She would of gladly handed over the shards if it meant she would be able to live, but Naraku is Naraku. He doesn't keep promises. He knew that she could be able to find the other shards if she were alive and able to escape so the best thing to do would be to kill her. He has been able to find the shards without her ability so far, thus he has no need of her.”

“But if she really is dead...” Sango began to cry out loud. Miroku came to her and put his arms around her and she let him. She cried into his chest for fear that her best friend was dead. She didn't want to believe it but wouldn't it be better to think that now so not to be disappointed later.

Her crying continued, but as time went on it slowly died down to hics and soft sobs. Then, silence took over. No more crying, just the eerie silence of the night. The stars and moon that normally shined brightly in the sky seemed dull in this hour of dispare. All hope had left the group. They didn't think that they would ever she their friend again, not even a body. Finally, sleep took them all. Something that they had not experienced for days.

It was dark all around. She could not see a thing not even her own hand in front of her face. She walked forward only to walk into more darkness. It was everywhere, it was never ending. The darkness showed no hope, no road to take, and definitely showed no future. The girl began to sob it the utter darkness. Was this death? Was this the end?

“I shouldn't give up... I am not weak... I will not give up...” the girl said to herself. She whipped her eyes clear of her tears and looked forward into the darkness. To her surprise, off in the distance was a speck of light almost like a star in the sky. “Light is hope...”

The girl began to walk towards the distance light like star. As she walked, the light began to become bigger and bigger. She came upon the source of the light, an open doorway. It was actually a door less entry that had blazing white light glowing from it. She was hesitant to go through the doorway. What would she find on the other side? She reached her hand out to try and touch the light. Her hand went through the light and slowly her body followed.

In front of her stood a desolate and dank castle and stretched all around was a never ending forest. Her fear reared up as she looked upon the castle, afraid to move. The doorway lead her somewhere worse, and as she looked behind her, there was no doorway any longer. The only path left open to her was the castle up ahead.

She began her way towards the castle keeping an ever watchful eye on her surroundings. The shadowy castle loomed over her as she came upon the entry way. The shadows upon the facade were long and eerie. A shiver ran down her spine as looked up above her at the castle. 'Who would ever want to live in a place as creepy as this?' she thought to herself.

She stepped through the entry way and walked into a court yard. A horrid smell reached her nose upon entry said court yard. She looked around and saw bodies littering the area. The stench she smelt was them, their rotting corpses and blood. She was frightened even more now. It looked as if a horrible battle had just occurred there. How long had it been since it ended? Did she just miss it? She back to run farther into the court yard looking at the bodies, looking for a particular person. She searched and searched not knowing that a pair of eyes watched her frantic movements from within the main building of the castle.

A creek of a door caught the girl's attention. She looked up to see that the front door of the main building had come open as if beckoning her to enter. She looked around and then began to walk to the door. She slipped in through the opening and saw a long hallway in front of her lite by very few torches. The light from the torches cast dancing shadows upon the walls making it easy for someone to be hiding nearby without her knowing it. At the end of the hallway she could barely make out the dark outline of another door.

She came upon the door and just reached out to lightly touch it when it opened on its own. The stench of death came to the girl again. She walked into the room and what she saw made her scream out with anguish. There in front of her was a corpse hanging by the arms. There were many claws marks gouged into the fair skinned person. Blood had stained the skin it ran down, and pooled on the floor underneath the corpse. The hair was matted to the head from the blood that had oozed out of a large gash in the skull. The eyes were open but no life shone from them. Here was the person the girl was frantically looking for.

He opened eyes to see a bare room about him. He was lying on a small cot in the corner of the room and besides that there was only a dresser, a nightstand, and a wash basin. He rubbed his eyes as he sat up and looked over to the covered window. He didn't know where he was but what was outside might give him a clue. With that, he stood up and walked over to uncover the window. Looking out he saw beautiful grounds of stone, hedges, and fountains. He also saw in one corner a statue of a priest and he realized where he was.

“A temple.... But how did I get here?”

He looked up into the sky and saw the moon. He was shocked to find that the moon was completely red as if covered in blood. This worried him because a red moon meant that blood had been spilled that night. He looked at his right hand as he squeezed it tight. Then, he looked behind him to the door that led out of the room.

“I might as well go looking...”

He walked out into the hallway and saw many doors around him. He guessed that they must be other rooms like the one he was in. He looked to the right and saw only a wall and to the left was the long hallway that intersected another one. Walking to the intersection only showed more hallways that intersected. It was like he was in a maze, but he never new of a temple that was maze-like. 'This is going to take awhile,' he sighed to himself.

He began to walk around in the plethora of hallways, and soon he began to notice that no matter how many turns he made or different hallways he took, he always ended up at the original intersection. He was lost and he was frustrated. His frustration made him look like a child as he stamped his foot on the ground. He hated being lost and being lost drove him insane. As he stamped his foot on the ground in childish antics, he heard a low and soft creaking as if a door had opened. He looked behind him to notice a door to the left had swung open. Walking to the door and peering inside, he saw stairs that lead to the bottom level of the temple.

He began to descend the stairs that were covered in darkness. As he went further down, a horrid stench became more prevalent. Once at the bottom, the smell became so over powering that it made the man sick to his stomach. He took a sleeve and covered his nose and mouth before opening the door in front of him. Stepping through the opened door revealed the entrance to the inner sanctum. The room was bathed in soft light coming from the many candles about the room, and the floor was covered in a sticky substance that was soon discovered to be blood. The man looked about the room to see the many bodies of priest, priestess, monks, and servant lying dead on the floor.

The sound of flowing water finally reached his ears. It sounded as if it was coming from the inner sanctum. He flung the doors to the sanctum open and his eyes fell upon the rushing water of the fountain that adorned the middle of the room. The once crystal blue waters ran red with blood, and not just the blood of any ordinary person, but the blood of the person half submerged in the bottom of the fountain. The chest and head of the body was lying on the the edging of the fountain while the legs were sprawled int the water. The hair was soaked through with water and blood. The man could see deep cuts all over the body's arms, and there look to be a gash in the head from a collision with the fountain's edge.

He slowly walked towards the fountain, fear and sickness rising in his throat. He prayed with all of his might that the person lying in the fountain was not who he thought it was. Black wavy hair, creamy white skin, and eyes that once danced with joy gave horrible clues to who this person was. Upon reaching the body and having a closer look at the maidens cold face told him that his guess, as wrought with dispare, was accurate in who the person was.

He awoke at the edge of the forest covered in a sticky substance. His head pounded and his ears rang with a high buzz. His body screamed in pain and stiffness as he sat up to look at his surroundings. He did not know where he was. He had no recollection of ever being there before or how he even got there to begin with. Foul smell upon the air finally registered in his mind: blood. He looked down at himself covered in the sticky substance and then at all the corpses that surrounded him and led up to the looming castle in the distance.

He reached for Tetssaiga, but to his horror, it was not at his side. He scoured the ground looking for his beloved sword. His hands groped in the blood soaked ground that had become like a red mud. Finally his hand landed upon a hilt of a sword. He pulled the sword free of its lodging to see that the sword was broken in twine. His beautiful and powerful sword was broken in two, and thus no longer carried any power. He no longer had the ability to access the power of the Wind Scar. A long and low growl erupted from his throat as he glared at the shadowy castle. Whoever broke his Tetssaiga must be in the castle.

He clambered to his feet and began his slow trudge to whoever or whatever awaited him in the castle. He would murder whoever crossed his path and destroy the one who broke his most valuable possession. Inside the courtyard, there were even more corpses pilled on top of one another. Blood ran free in rushing streams, staining the stone a deep red.

He walked into the main entrance way of the castle only to find it deserted of corpse and all life. He was surprised that the the carnage of the battle had only taken place outside the actual living areas of the castle. He wandered around the rooms of the castle looking for someone to be his prey. Then he heard it, a demoniacal laughter coming from the back of the castle. He followed the horrid sound of someone else's delight.

“You!!!”

“Yes, me, who else did you expect?” the man continued his demoniacal laughter.

Still griping the hilt of his broken sword, the young man lunged at the other, wanting to rip his throat out and watch him bleed.

“You still think you can beat me, after you tried and failed? Proof of your failure is held in your hand boy! Not even your Tetssaiga could stop me!”

“I will defeat you! I will!”

“NO! You will run in fear just like the last time. I have to admit that I did not think you fool enough to come back. But you will bend to my will, just like she did...”

He stared at the other man as he listened to his triad. His eyes only wavered once the demon before motioned to the woman he had just mentioned. His eyes quickly looked at the women and then darted back as his mind realized who it was. He screamed in agony as he saw her beautiful face marred with open wounds. Her body was pinned to the wall with what looked like roots of a tree. Her clothes were shreds upon her limp body. Blood oozed down her every orifice on her mangle body. His painful screaming never ended.

It had been a few weeks since her captivity began until the cold and cruel demon Lord known as Sesshoumaru. She actually hadn't seen him once since that night she had to eat in his company. That night still gave her chills. She could remember how it felt to have his eyes upon as she shoveled food into her starving body. She could feel the laughter in his eyes as he watched her. She could feel how her hunger made him feel satisfied. After that night, it was Jaken who brought her two meals a day. One in the early morning and one about mid-evening time. At first, she didn't like how far apart her meals were and how little those meals were, but she got used to it after being fed like that for the time she has been there.

What amazed her the most was that the clothing she had been wearing was also being kept cleaned. Jaken would taken her previous days clothing each morning to be cleaned and would be returned the next morning when he came with breakfast and her clean cloths. She did have to admit that that was considerably kind of the little frog demon to do. She found him extremely amusing in how the little demon moved about trying to carry the large pile of cloths.

Kagome sighed as she looked out at the ground from her balcony. Her breakfast plate laid empty on the floor. It looked as if it were going to be another beautiful day, but she could only marvel at the beauty from her balcony. She had spotted a garden out on the grounds the other day that she wished to roam around in, but she could not leave her room. Jaken always kept her door locked, and she knew escaping was futile... She had tried it once, but Jaken was quick to stop her and then for a few days following there was a guard at her door while Jaken came in her room.

She loved how Sesshoumaru's castle grounds looked in the rising sun, so beautiful it took her breath away. This was a place of dreams. It would be what every girl dreamed of when she dreamed of her knight in shining armor. A large castle with the most beautiful grounds and a tall and handsome knight that would escort her throughout the entire grounds. He would marvel at her beauty as she took delight in the wonderful gardens and in him. She sighed again at her dream, but it would not be true because Sesshoumaru was far from being a knight in shining armor. He was an evil demon that wanted to use her to his own gains.

Kagome quickly slapped her neck as she felt a prick of a bug bitting her. She caged the bug in her closed fist, and then opened her hand to see what she had caught.

“Oh my! Myoga!” Kagome was so glad to see the tiny, old flea in her palm. “What are you doing here? How did you find me? I'm soo happy to see you!”

“Yes, my lady, I'm sure you are...” the flea groaned as he rubbed his bald head.

“I'm sorry, but I thought it was just another ordinary bug that was bitting me, not you!”

“It is alright. I'm just glad you are alright, as you blood tasted just as sweet as ever!”

“Uh, thanks, I guess.” Kagome laughed at the little flea. “But you have yet to answer my questions.”

“Well, I have known since you were kidnapped who had done it. I'm am ashamed to say that I followed you to the hot spring that fateful night.”

“You were spying on me!!! Myoga! Have you no dignity?”

“I am terribly sorry, Lady Kagome, but at least I know who took you and where too. I followed Sesshoumaru as he took you off on that horrible beast of his, but of course a bit behind so as not to gain any notice. I came all the way to the castle and saw that you were put in this room.”

“Then why haven't I seen you before then?”

“Because as soon as I saw that you were settled I left to go inform Master Inuyasha.”

“That means the others are coming for me! Oh, Myoga, you're the greatest!” Kagome hugged the old flea.

“My lady... I'm sorry, but no they are not coming. I made my way back to the camp as fast as possible, but when I got there the others were no longer there. I began to search for them in the nearby areas and asked around. I was told that the group had awoken to find you missing and had left in search of you. I'm also afraid that the rumor is that they believe Naraku took you.”

“No... But that could lead them in the complete opposite direction of where I am at!”

“Yes. I would of tried following them, but you know me. I hate danger and Naraku is the most dangerous of all. I decided to come back here and keep you company, and maybe we could plot a way for you to escape.”

“I am glad for you company Myoga. Thank you for thinking of me.”

“It is my pleasure Lady Kagome. I must say that I was surprised that you were given this room.”

“Why?”

“Because this room once belonged to Lord Inuyasha's mother. And the clothing you wear was her's.”

“Inuyasha's mother?...” Kagome looked around the room again and then at the clothing she wore. “So this is where Inuyasha's mother lived while she was with his father.

“For only part of the time. Inuyasha's father brought her here while he was still married to Sesshoumaru's mother. Once the Lady found out about her husband's affair with a human she forced his hand. Inu no Tashio took his human love to his other estate and left Sesshoumaru and his mother here.”

“But why did they leave her clothing here?”

“Because, by the time they left she was already with child and this clothing no longer fit her. They took what did fit and left.”

“... Myoga... What do you mean by forcing his hand? How did Sesshoumaru's mother do that.”

“Ah... I'm not exactly sure but in a round about way it came down to her telling Inu no Tashio that it was either her and Sesshoumaru or his human whore. We obviously know who he choose to be with.”

Kagome sighed once again, and looked back onto the grounds of the estate. She now had an idea as to why Sesshoumaru hated Inuyasha so much. Sesshoumaru must see it that it was Inuyasha that took his father away from him and his mother.
