Chapter 4
Disclaimer: I do not own… I am not affiliated with the Inuyasha franchise… The character Miiyu is of my own creation and thus my property.
A stream of light fell between the curtains in the early morning. That light was bright and warm. It would be a brilliant, warm and sunny day outside. However, there would be one who would not be able to fully feel its affects. At the end of the stream of morning light a young woman began to awake from her slumber. Her eyes slowly opened to the light that fell upon her face. Her hand came to block the intruding light from her eyes until they adjusted. It did not take long from the room itself was still mostly dark. The only light was that one stream coming from between the curtains.
Kagome sate up in the bed where the covers, that were once over her, pooled around her waist. She looked at the light coming in and saw little pieces of dust dancing in it. She looked around at the dark, shadowy objects in the room. She could feel and breathe the heaviness in the air. The room had not been dusted or properly aired our in a long time.
She slid out of the bed and with her came the sheet. She took the sheet and wrapped it about herself. She secured it by tying the two ends together over her shoulder. She then walked over to the heavy curtains that looked to be made of red velvet. Pulling the curtains revealed a set of large double doors that would open to a nice sized balcony.
Kagome opened the doors wide and stepped out onto the balcony. She breathed in the fresh early morning air that seemed to bring new life to all the creatures of the Earth. She gazed out at the grounds. She was right when she guessed that the ground were extensive. They seemed to keeping going far beyond her sight in this early morning light. Yet, they had to reach an end somewhere and Kagome took another guess that they had to end at the hills she saw surrounding the mansion from the air. But what got to her was how beautiful the ground looked. She did not expect someone so cruel as Sesshoumaru to own something of this beauty or magnitude.
Kagome walked to the edge of the balcony and looked down. She was high up, and in fact, she was too high up to even think about jumping. She glanced at the walls and saw no vines or any other ledges that would allow her aid in an attempt to escape her captor. She sighed and walked back into the room. At least she could make the best of her situation and clean up the room she was given. Upon looking around the room in the newly given light, Kagome could tell the room was a beautiful one furnished with the best pieces she ever laid eyes on.
“Might as well get to work.” Kagome smiled to herself.
She pulled off a pillowcase from one of the many pillows on the bed and set to work. She dusted and cleaned to the best of her ability with the allotted materials to use. She dusted all of the wooden pieces in the room which included a desk, two night stands on either side of the large bed, the headboard, a dresser, and a vanity table. What she noticed about the wood in the room was that it all was the same, a dark maple.
The next thing one her list to dust was the walls and all the little nooks and crannies about the room. Dusting the walls revealed a beautiful golden champaign color that went perfectly well with all the wood in the room. Next she took all the blankets, sheets, and other cloth in the room out to the balcony. She shook every item free of any dust and hung them over the railings to let the sun air items out.
With all her work done, Kagome decided to take a closer look in the room she was given. She opened the night stands and found a few books and candles. Obviously it was nighttime reading materials. She went over to the vanity table and opened all the delicate drawers. She found a set of magnificent brushes and combs for her hair. There was also a hand mirror and other little hair accessories. She pulled herself away from looking over every little piece to look inside the desk. In the desk were a few more books, paper, ink, and writing utensils. There were even a few blank books that she thought of using as diaries during her captivity.
Kagome looked over to the dresser. She hoped, no she prayed, that if all the other pieces had items within them then the dresser would too. She pulled open the door that covered the area where items to be hung would be. A happy sight to the young woman's eyes was to see many beautiful kimonos hanging there. She pulled open all of the drawers to find the items that went under the kimonos or the obis to tie them. There was a drawer full of night wear, and two drawers of normal everyday wear in case a kimono was not wanted. In the bottom drawer were slippers made of satin that were of colors to match each kimono and then a plain pair for the other clothing items.
Kagome pulled out all the items to quickly air them out and then put them all back into the dresser except one. It was a golden colored kimono with a red flower print around the hems and all down the long sleeves. She found all the matching pieces and slippers to go with. Slowly and carefully she dressed and walked back out onto the balcony. She looked out and noticed the height of the sun. It was late in the morning, almost noon time.
“Has he forgotten that I am here?...” Kagome's response to the question was the growling of her stomach. “Oh… I really hope he hasn't forgotten about me… I'm so hungry…”
“Who gave you those to wear?”
Kagome turned around startled. She did not hear anyone enter her room. Her eyes fell to look upon the frog demon called Jaken.
“I… I found them… In the dresser…” Kagome pointed to the dresser. Jaken looked to where she pointed.
“I guess since it was part of this room then it is free for you to use. This Jaken is here to take you to my master. Come now. No fuss or it is to Ah-Un with you.”
Kagome followed Jaken out of the room to wherever it was he was leading her. It was to Sesshoumaru but to a new part of the mansion. The light coming in from the windows allowed Kagome to marvel ar the splendor of the mansion along the way.

“Inuyasha… Can we please rest for a few minutes?”
“No. We keep going. We have to save Kagome as soon as possible. Not stopping will save us time.”
“Damn it Inuyasha! Even if we find Naraku we will not be able to fight him like this! We'll be to exhausted! Look at them,” Miroku waved his arm to indicate Sango and Shippo. “They're both exhausted. Shippo has been carried for the past five hours. If you want to go on a suicide mission then fine, but I'm doing as Sango asked!”
Inuyasha turned around to face his friends. The looks upon their faces said it all. Miroku's eyes were slightly droopy and he was leaning upon his staff. Sango looked as if she was about to collapse if she wasn't held up by the tree she rested her shoulder against. Then there was Shippo. The poor little guy was already out cold and was being carried by Sango. Inuyasha sighed. They were right. Where he could continue like this for a few more days, they could not.
“Alright, let's rest.”
Sango set Shippo on a soft patch of moss to let him continue sleeping. She sat down on a large tree root that come out of the ground and then went back in. It created a perfect seat to sit on and allowed her to rest up against the tree comfortably. Miroku sat down on the ground and leaned up against a tree across form Sango. Inuyasha sat down to rest across from both Miroku and Sango.
“Is there anything that is ready to eat in Kagome's bag?”
“I believe there is some bread and a jug of water.” Inuyasha pulled out the bread and water. He pulled the bread apart into four pieces. He gave Sango and Miroku each a piece. “We'll save this for Shippo once he wakes up.”
They slowly munched on the bread and passed the water amongst them. They had been on the move for over twelve hours straight. Inuyasha was secretly happy that the others told him to stop. Resting right now felt good to his sore joints. They had come across many demons throughout the night and he was the one who did most of the fighting.
“Did you feel that?”
“Feel what Sango?”
“I swore I felt a breeze.”
“But we're in the middle of a…”
“There it is again.” Sango closed her eyes as a slight breeze played with her hair.
“…forest…”
“That's odd. You shouldn't be able to feel a breeze in a forest this dense and especially since we are in the middle of it like Miroku said.”
“I know Inuyasha, but I felt two breezes… Wait… There's another one.” Again a breeze played with Sango's hair.
“I don't feel it, but I see it playing with your hair… I don't like this.” Inuyasha got up and sniffed the air. He looked around as if something or someone was hiding behind a nearby tree. Then they heard it, a faint laugh. A laugh you would hear as if it was caught by a breeze.
“A bit defensive are we? You should not worry much. A beautiful woman such as this should not be sweating.”
A glistening figure appeared in the sunlight peeping through the treetops. It was a beautiful creature wearing a creamy under-robe with a dark green top robe held together by small wooden toggles. The creature's hair was a deep brown piled upon the head and clasped in place with long green clips. The rest of the hair fell free to the ground.
“Me?... Beautiful?... I am obviously nothing compared to you!” Sango was a taken back by how lovely the creature was.
“Who are you?” Inuyasha growled.
“I am Miiyu. I am one of the tree sprites of this forest. There were once many of us but now there are few. We are slowly being killed off by the demons that hunt this forest at night.”
“A tree sprite? What is that?”
“Ah… A tree sprite gives life to the forest. We help the trees, flowers and even the moss to grow. We are the life of the forest.”
“I always was told that sprites never showed themselves. That is was dangerous.”
“Miroku, how do you…”
“Yes, that is true. We are not supposed to show ourselves because we do not want any other creature to capture or kill us. If that happens the forest can be tamed and controlled instead of being wild and free. Oh! I'm sorry, my lady, I cut you off. Please do continue.”
“Well, I wanted to know how Miroku knew how sprites existed?”
“I am a monk!” Miroku laughed and shrugged his shoulders.
“More like a perverted monk.”
“So why did you show yourself to us?” Inuyasha asked.
“Last night I was being chased by a pair of snake demons when all of a sudden they were engaged in a battle with some other foes behind me. I took my chance to hide within my trees and watched the battle. While watching I saw an amazing woman brave an attack by one of those vicious demons. I swore then that if I ever found her I would thank her and whoever she was with for saving my life.”
“I remember that fight… So we saved you from them?”
“Yes, my lady. I thank you all for what you did.”
“It was not a problem. Going through this forest at night requires us to fight our way through.” Sango smiled an Miiyu.
“What are you traveling for?”
“Our friend was kidnapped and we're searching for her.” Inuyasha explained.
“Yes, but for now we are resting. Why don't you join us, Miiyu is it?” Miroku snaked his arm over Miiyu's shoulders and let his hand rest upon the sprites breast. Miroku's face as he felt… felt… felt nothing.
WHACK!
“You perverted monk! Are you okay! He didn't offend you did he? He's like that with all beautiful women.”
“No… No... No breast…!” Miroku tripped and fell onto his bottom.
“Woman? No… I am a male.” Miiyu smiled at Sango.
“WHAT?!” Sango and Inuyasha exclaimed together. They were dumbfounded. This tree sprite looked way too much like a female to be a male, but he said he was a male.
“No offense, but that is just a bit creepy.”
“Yes, I know, but we're known to be an extremely beautiful race of creatures, men and women alike. I wish I could stay longer, but my forest needs tending to. Thank you again.” Miiyu bowed to the gang and then disappeared from sight.
“Wha… What were you guys yelling at?” Shippo asked groggily.
“Nothing Shippo… Miroku was just being perverted again.” Sango smiled at the little fox. “Would you like something to eat?”
“Yeah!”

“My Lord, I've brought the girl as you asked?” Jaken bowed in the doorway as he jabbed Kagome in with his staff.
Kagome saw Sesshoumaru sitting at the other end of a very long table. In front of him were a few platters of food. Just seeing the food made her stomach growl even more. She was pushed into the room by Jaken, but she was afraid to move any further than that. She didn't want to evoke any harm towards herself. Yet, she couldn't control the growling of her stomach. She then noticed the smirk upon her captor's face.
“Hungry, human?”
“Y… Yes…” Kagome looked down so she couldn't see that smirk upon his devilishly handsome face and so he couldn't see the fear in her eyes.
“Frightened are we?” Sesshoumaru's smirk grew wider. “Come, sit and eat.”
Kagome's head shot up in surprise. She stared at the demon in amazement. Why would he want her to eat with him?
“Do not worry, it's not poisonous. If I wanted you dead you would already be so.”
Slowly, Kagome walked towards Sesshoumaru and towards the chair he indicated for her to sit in. Once there, she slid into the chair and stared at her plate. She was afraid to move unless he told her it was alright.
“Go ahead, eat. You must be hungry.” Sesshoumaru smirked again as if on queue Kagome's stomach growled. With his permission, she dug into the food.
