Chapter 5
.
.
It was the morning after Kagome had spoken to Inuyasha about Sesshomaru. It was Saturday, and every Saturday Kagome would take Rin to a shallow area of the river where they could practice swimming. Rin was a great swimmer thanks to Kagome, so mostly they just swam around and had chit chats like a little and big sister.
.
.
Rin skipped, with a towel in hand, from her hut to Kagome's. She knocked and waited. There was no answer.
.
Rin looked up at the sun, hm it was noon time. Kagome was usually ready by now. Rin opened the door slightly and peeked in. It was dark inside still, did Kagome and Lord Inuyasha go somewhere? Then she heard a rustle and groan, she looked down. There was Lord Inuyasha, butt-naked, with blankets strewn around, and Kagome's small figure sleeping against his. Rin gasped and blushed furiously. Inuyasha's dog ears twitched at the sound and he got up in time to see Rin slam the door and run away, completely horrified and red in the face. “Eh..was that Rin...?” he groaned confused. He was damned exhausted and fell back onto the futon with Kagome. She didn't stir.
.
.
.
Rin made it back to her hut and closed the door quickly, as though Inuyasha were chasing her angrily or something. She panted and slid down onto the ground. How embarrassing to see Lord Inuyasha stark naked! And Kagome-san...well she'd seen that at the hot springs already but...not with Lord Inuyasha naked over her! She took a few moments to calm down.
.
.
She groaned miserably and pulled her legs up against her....this is why she couldn't be with Lord Sesshomaru. She didn't understand anything! She was just some innocent, naive child. But at the same time she wasn't. She knew what Inuyasha and Kagome had obviously done the night before. Rin was so frustrated. Lord Sesshomaru was no where to be seen, probably off doing important things, so important that he didn't have time to waste on her. Meanwhile she was in the village, fretting about something as natural as sex. “No wonder he didn't come back,” she whispered with her head down against her knees.
.
.
It wasn't typical of Rin to feel so pessimistic. In fact she was usually the most optimistic person in the whole village...which led to people calling her naive in the first place. It was all so stressful, and what all this emotion boiled down to was that she just missed Lord Sesshomaru with all her heart. Villagers said she would forget him after a few months, but they were wrong. She could never forget about her Lord Sesshomaru ever! `But I guess he forgot all about me,' she thought sadly.
.
.
.
Suddenly there was a knock at the door she was leaning against. She dried her tears quickly. Was it Lord Inuyasha coming to yell at her for walking in? She opened the door hesitantly.
.
It was Kyoutsu. He'd grown taller and even stronger, but cut his hair short now. “Good afternoon Rin-san,” he leaned forward and kissed her and took her hand. “Ano, your eyes look red, are you alright?” he asked concerned.
.
.
Rin wiped her eyes quickly and nodded. “Hai! I'm just tired is all.” He smiled, “Are you free then? We can go walking by the river and relax, my mother doesn't need my help with anything until evening.”
.
.
Rin lit up, “Sure!” A relaxing walk was just what she needed to get off her stress. And seeing as how Kagome was well..busy...she had to morning free today. They walked hand in hand to the river and walked up and down the shore. For once Rin listened quietly to Kyoutsu tell her about his day and such.
.
.
A few feet ahead there was a trail of boulders in the river, that would work as stepping stones, to the other side of the banks. However, the river marked the edge of the village, and going past it was dangerous, so neither Rin nor Kyoutsu had ever ventured out. While Kyoutsu was explaining how to build a small canoe for fishing, Rin heard a roar in the distance.
.
.
She turned around like lightning, “That sound!” she cried. Kyoutsu looked around over the river, “What? What sound?” The roar came again, it was distant. “That sounds just like Ah-Un!” Rin cried anxiously, shaking Kyoutsu's hand as she bounced up and down. “Who?” he asked, more confused than ever.
.
.
.
“Lord Sesshomaru's dragon, Ah-Un! I...I think that's him! It has to be, it sounds just like him! Lord Sesshomaru must be there on the other side!” She hurriedly pulled Kyoutsu over to the boulders in the river. She jumped across one. He pulled her back fiercely, “Rin! We can't go over the river! You could slip and drown, and the other side isn't safe!” She saw fear flash across his eyes, but his face remained stern.
.
.
That fear turned her off immensely for some reason. “There's nothing to be afraid of Kyoutsu, Lord Sesshomaru would never let anyone harm us!” She pleaded with her gorgeous brown eyes. “Please, before they're gone!”
.
.
Kyoutsu was torn, he was nervous and fearful as hell, and every horror story his mother had ever told him about children being eaten by demons flew through his head.... but he gave in to her. “Alright Rin.” He carefully followed her over the slippery boulders, to the other side of the river. Rin couldn't wait a minute, she bounded away from the river's edge, through the meadow towards the forest. Kyoutsu ran after her, glancing back at their village in the distance. It looked so small now, it made him more nervous. It just didn't feel safe at all.
.
.
.
Rin made it to the forest edge first. She panted heavily, “Lord Sesshomaru!”
.
.
“Lord Sesshomaru! Ah-Un! Are you there!” she called out. Kyoutsu ran to her side panting also. “Rin, I don't see anyone. The sound is gone now.” He looked around at the dark forest wearily. Besides the sound of the wind, it was deathly quiet. There was no one around. Suddenly a crow `cawed' loudly and made Kyoutsu jump. He startled Rin too, and she pouted, how could a boy like Kyoutsu be so fearful all the time. She just didn't understand it. But the most important thing to her now, was to find Ah-Un and Lord Sesshomaru!
.
.
Kyoutsu looked back at the river, and saw a small red and green blur dashing towards them. What the hell was that? A demon?! He tried grabbing Rin's sleeve but she was walking into the woods now. He ran after her and yelled, “Rin! Something is coming behind us!”
.
.
Deeper into the woods she suddenly saw a dark figure and heard the same roar. “He is there! It's Ah-Un right there!” Rin was so ecstatic she ran straight ahead deeper towards the figure. It did look just like Ah-Un. Almost.
.
.
Kyoutsu ran up fiercely behind her and grabbed her arm tightly, “Rin, please!”
The dark figure in front of them lunged forward from the bushes suddenly. It was definitely not Ah-Un.
.
.
“That's a dragon!” Kyoutsu cried pulling Rin back by her arm, scared out of his wits. The demon was large, about the side of two horses side by side, with a large snout, and oak green scales. It hungrily snapped at Rin, but Kyoutsu pulled her back in a seconds time. “RUN!” Kyoutsu pushed her to the side and they delved deeper into the woods to the left, struggling around bushes and over roots.
.
.
.
Rin was speechless and her tears spilled freely. `But....it was Ah-Un's roar! I-It sounded just like it!' Her heart felt so pained, and the sight of that hideous dragon, it wasn't her Ah-Un! She and Kyoutsu ran faster as the dragon roared viciously and bore down on them, stomping across the hard Earth.
.
.
“Foolish children, you will be my snacks for today!,” the dragon growled deeply. It's long tail flew around and smacked Rin to the ground, and Kyoutsu also fell hard in the other direction. The dragon breathed heavily and loudly, it exhaled down onto Rin's body, stirring up the dirt around her. It held her down by the hem of her kimono and readied to bite her face. She screamed and looked over to Kyoutsu, sure that he would save her. “Kyoutsu!”
.
.
.
She couldn't have ever expressed before what she did at that moment; Kyoutsu was balled up on the ground, in the fetal position, shaking and crying, not even attempting to save her. In fact he was slowly crawling away from her. Did he intend to make his escape while her body served as a distraction?! Her face shown horror, confusion, anger, disgust, despair, all in one. The dragon's fangs were inches from biting down onto her.
.
.
.
.
.
“KAZE NO KIZU!” Rin shut her eyes, expecting death, but then she saw large red swipes of blood flying everywhere. The dragon roared painfully and turned around like lightning to attack whatever had dared to tear into it's scales.
.
.
.
“Lord Inuyasha!” Rin cried. Inuyasha swiped at the demon with his claws again, “Move Rin!”
.
.
Rin was pulled out of the way by Kagome, who had arrows on her back and a bow in her hand. Rin hugged Kagome crying, “Kagome-san! I'm sorry, I thought it was Ah-Un!”
.
.
“It's alright Rin-chan! Take Kyoutsu and hurry back to the river. Let Inuyasha and I handle this demon!” Kagome instructed. Rin sniffled, nodded, and pulled Kyoutsu up. She tried to ignore his dirt and tear stained face, “Kyoutsu, we have to go quickly!”
.
.
“You half-demon, dare to shed the blood of an Earth dragon?” the demon bellowed. “I did it once and I'll do it again!” Inuyasha yelled baring his Tessaiga.
.
.
Kagome drew her arrow and aimed it at the dragon's head. The dragon opened it jaws wide and sent a large barrage of wooden shards flying towards Inuyasha. Inuyasha barely jumped out of the way, it was quite a wide attack.
.
.
The dragon swished around so quickly, Kagome shot her arrow, and it pierced straight into the dragon's neck. It roared ferociously and turned it's focus on Kagome. The purifying arrow began taking it's effect. “Now Inuyasha!” Kagome yelled.
.
.
“My turn!” Inuyasha growled jumping up over the dragon. “Adamant Barrage!” he swung the Tessaiga forward full force sending diamond shards raining down completely obliterating the dragon into dust.
.
.
Kagome sighed a sigh of relief. “Good work, Inuyasha!” “Hmph, easy kill.” He sheathed his Tessaiga and looked over towards the river. Kyoutsu and Rin were just barely making it there.
.
.
.
He put Kagome onto his back and ran speedily out of the forest across the meadow. “What the hell were those two thinking anyways?!”
.
.
Kagome held onto his haori and didn't answer, she figured what had happened. Rin was right, that dragon did look a lot like Ah-Un.

.
Back at the village, Kyoutsu tried to hurriedly excuse himself, so he could return home and try to forget about the entire ordeal. “Not so fast!” Inuyasha grabbed him by his collar and stared him down. “What in the hells were you both thinking? That dragon would have eaten you in one bite!”
.
.
Kyoutsu cringed, he didn't need reminding, he was still shaking from fear. He looked down at the ground ashamed.
.
.
“It was all my fault Lord Inuyasha. I'm sorry! I just thought that....” Rin's tears welled up again, “It sounded like Ah-Un. I thought I would know!”
.
.
“Ah-Un?” Inuyasha let go of Kyoutsu, dropping him on the ground. He glanced at Kagome and she gave a half nod. Inuyasha sighed, this was that Sesshomaru thing coming back to irritate him again.
.
.
Kagome laid her hand on Kyoutsu's back gently, but he still jumped. “Go on home Kyoutsu, everything is fine now. You're just a little dirty, that's all.”
.
.
.
.
He nodded and bowed and edged away nervously, “Erm, please, don't tell my mother!” Inuyasha huffed and Kagome nodded. Kyoutsu turned around to run back home but Rin chased him. “Kyoutsu wait!” she yelled out angrily. He faced her. “That dragon almost killed me....why did you run away?!”
.
.
He looked at her and furrowed his brows, “Rin, what was I supposed to do? Do you have any idea that you might have killed us both?” She was flabbergasted, “You were supposed to protect me! But you let that demon scare you away into tears! Lord Sesshomaru would never be afraid of that demon, he would always protect me! That's what you're supposed to do!”
.
.
Kyoutsu gave a half laugh, he couldn't believe what Rin was saying. Rin breathed heavily, this wasn't a man! This was just...a scared boy....a coward!
.
.
.
“Rin, I'm not a half demon like Inuyasha, I have to be afraid for my life. And I'm not a demon like this Lord Sesshomaru that you're always going on about. You think I'm as powerful as a demon lord, but how can I be? I'm just a human!”
.
.
.
Rin felt so angry and frustrated. “You're right! You are not a demon lord at all, because they have courage! He would always do his best to protect me.” Kyoutsu shrugged, tired of the entire argument, “Maybe if he was there. But, Rin, he wasn't there. He's not here now either, who knows if he'll even be coming around! Thinking I could fight and protect you like a demon lord would just be naive!”
.
.
There was that darn word again. She wasn't naive! Right? And Sesshomaru was coming back! Wasn't he? It was all too much, she let her tears fall freely and ran back to her home. “I can't be with you,” she whispered between sobs.
.
.
Kyoutsu held his hands up defensively and walked away, back home. Kagome and Inuyasha had listened to it all.
.
.
.
Inuyasha patted Tessaiga and leaned against a fence. “That punk is right, Kagome. He's just a human kid, what the hell does he know about fighting demons. He's probably never even been that far out of the village.” Kagome watched Rin disappear into her hut. `Rin..' she thought worriedly.
.
.
“If you were human, you would still protect me Inuyasha,” Kagome said, hugging him tightly. He held her head against his chest, “Of course I would. I'll always protect you Kagome. I promise.” He stared into her eyes with all the devotion in the world.
.
.
.
“That's all Rin wants, just someone to say that to her too!” She buried her face in his haori. She was worried about Rin.
.
.
Inuyasha hated seeing Kagome stressed. “It's not easy promising your life away when you're a fifteen year old kid, Kagome. It takes sacrifice...it takes all your heart. It takes love.”
.
.
She nodded and held his hand. “But I have a feeling Rin would do it...for Sesshomaru.”
.
.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So much drama! SHEESH. Poor Inuyasha is caught in the middle of all this mess. Jeez no wonder he's always so grouchy.
.
.
And where the hell is Sesshomaru, right?
Hm? Why are you looking at me for the answer? Because I'm the author?
Oh, PSH, yea right...like that means I know what the hell I'm doing or where the hell ANY of this is going *takes a swig of hard liquor*
