Until the priestess Kikyo arrived. They fell in love, but it was short lived. Kikyo formed a grudge against the innocent boy and placed a curse upon him and all of his house, leaving them with the bodies of demons. The servants were still blessed with their human conscious and hearts, but the young lord had lost his soul. Trapped in time and his own misery and pain Inuyasha lived in isolation for fifty years, until she came, and glimmer of hope appeared in the household, that maybe his broken spirit might be healed and all would be saved.
Pairings: Inu/Kag, Mir/San.
A/N: Okay I know that people have probably used this idea for a fic before, basing the story off of beauty and the beast, but the idea kept bothering me after the kids I baby sit made me sit through the movie. So I decided to give it a shot, who knows? Maybe it'll turn out to be something that I'm proud of!
To heal the broken spirit.
By Hanyou Vixen
Prologue-
Silver the color of the moon.
Only when dark shall you find temporary release
Red the color of the blood you shall spill
Consumed by your own hate and grief
Jewel of Soul's shall bind your fate
Until the light shall fade
From the darkness I create
A soul frozen in time
Slowly sinking deeper into misery
Only one who sheds her tears
Who lays her aside her fears
To heal the heart that I have ravaged
The injured shall be saved
A love for time will be made.
Kikyo's spell.
End prologue.
Chapter one: And so it begins
He lay curled into a small ball on the torn an tattered bed, or at least what was left of it. The room was in shambles, destroyed furniture was scattered throughout what once must have been a beautiful and lavish place. Shredded tapestries hung from the walls, and when the harsh and cold wind blew through the shattered window and moved the threads to the side, one could see the deep claw marks and blood stains that marred the stone surface.
The boy shivered violently as the wave of pain swept over him again, biting back a whimper he squeezed his golden eyes shut and pulled his knees closer to his chest, his hands curled into tight fists, the delicate looking claws ripping into his skin and making the crimson blood trail down his palms and wrists. He wouldn't give into the silent voice that was whispering in his mind. He would not let this cursed nature steal him once again and watch helplessly through reddened vision as he tore his life to shambles. This demon he had been become was not going to win!
The cold air blew through the window again, making the boy's silver colored hair ruffle slightly. The two dog like ears perched on top of this silvery mane swiveled around automatically. Then the pain swept thorough his ravaged body again and the scream he had tried so desperately to hold back ripped from Inuyasha's throat in a piercing wail, trailing off into silent sobs.
The heart stopping sound reached the ears of the elderly woman as she bent over her tasks of cleaning. Her tired gray eyes looked sadly up the stairs that led to the second floor of the castle that had once been such a happy and cheerful place, now fallen into gloom and despair as the young lord suffered. The woman shook her head and bent back to her task, but one lone silver tear trickled down the wrinkled face.
Higure Village. ( Sunset village)
The soft breeze sped throughout the peaceful village as it's inhabitants went about their daily work in a leisurely routine. The sky was a bright blue, but the air still held the signs of winters approach.
Kagome Higurashi sighed as the breeze tossed her raven colored hair into her face as she walked, she pushed it back into it's place behind her ear with an annoyed look on her face. Sure the weather was pleasant enough after the heavy rain storms they had witnessed during the past late summer months, but this wind was starting to get on her nerves! She sighed again and continued her mission of getting her basket of herbs to her mother.
As she entered the small hut just below the hill that led up to the village shrine she set her load down and looked around for her mother.
The said woman was sitting beside the small fire pit in the middle of the main room, bending over a pot of stewed herbs that was supposed to be a potion for one of the sick women in the village. She looked up as her daughter entered the hut and gave the girl a warm smile, "Kagome, I didn't expect you to be back so soon!" she said as the girl came over and set beside her.
Kagome shrugged and pulled the basket over next to her. "Guess I was lucky. I didn't run into either of those two knot headed snail paced boys who keep stalking after me." she mumbled as she began to sort the fresh greenery into piles.
Her mother laughed at her daughters obvious distaste at the two men who were presently attempting to court the 16 year old girl, who obviously wasn't interested in either of them. "Now, now Kagome. No need to be so harsh on the two lads. Koga and Hojo mean well….it's just that their a little slow at picking it up that you don't want to marry right at the moment and have a family." Her voice held a bit of disappointment when she said that Kagome didn't want to have a family. She really wanted to have some grandchildren running around the house!
Kagome caught the note but kept her mouth shut. It was true. She really didn't want to have a family of her own right now. It wasn't that she didn't want one at all, sure she might want to settle down and have children when she was older and more prepared for it. But she just didn't want that responsibility. In her mind she had so much of her life left to live, she wanted to travel and have adventures, and maybe one day meet the man of her dreams! But that was a far cry from the life she led now, a shrine priestess-in-training who held the potentials of being a powerful miko. She was shaken out of her thoughts when a younger boy ran into the hut.
"Kagome-ane (older sister)!" he cried happily as he jumped on her.
Kagome managed to keep sitting upright somehow and peeled her brother Souta from her. "What is it twerp?" she asked seeing his mischievous look.
Souta gave his sister a mixed grin of sympathy and teasing. "Kouga is outside asking for you." he stated as he watched the girl's face give an amusing display of disgust and annoyance.
"When in the Seven Hells is that stupid baka ever going to learn that I don't want to be his woman!" she muttered as she got to her feet and walked stiffly to the door.
Just as her brother had said, the young man was standing outside of her hut. His amazingly blue eyes lit up when he saw her and he dropped into a gracious bow, making his long black hair pulled into a ponytail swing downward with gravity.
Kagome just rolled her eyes and gave an exasperated sigh. "Can I help you Koga?" she asked in a slightly chilly tone.
Kouga, seeming not to hear the sarcasm dripping from her voice, gave her a flashing smile as he straitened. " Hello my wonderful Kaogme!" he said cheerfully. He quickly cut off the remark that was about to leave her lips. " I was wondering if you would like to accompany me on a short horseback ride?"
Kagome shook her head at the mans stupidity. "No. I do not wish to accompany you on a ride Kouga, I have work to do." She turned on her heel to march back into the hut but was stopped as a gentle but firm hand placed its self on her shoulder.
"I think that you've put me off enough in favor of your work my Kagome." Kouga breathed in her ear, making the girl shiver in disgust. She attempted to shrug his hand off, but he simply tightened his grip on her.
"Let me go Kouga." she hissed.
"No. You will come with me. Besides," he purred , "I was hoping that you would enjoy the surprise I have to show you."
Kagome's heart quickened, not in anticipation but in fear. She had never seen Kouga act like this before and it frightened her. She felt the man begin to pull her away from the hut, and for some reason she couldn't resist. Her legs moved as if on their own as the blue eyed man led her to two horses he had , he helped the girl mount and then mounted his own.
Kagome desperately looked back at the hut, her mother didn't even know she was
leaving! But she couldn't protest to the young man, it seemed that her tongue had frozen
to the roof of her mouth. All she could do was watch helplessly as the man started riding
towards the forest that bordered their village, her own horse following him automatically.
Suddenly it hit her, Kouga must have placed some kind of spell on her! Her eyes widened
as the realization hit her and she scowled at the back of the said man's head. He must
have gone to one of the spell weavers that sometimes traveled through their village. She
couldn't believe that this man would go to such extremes to get her! But how had he
found a spell strong enough to subdue her?! Everyone in the village knew how she was a
budding miko, no spell was supposed to be able to subdue a miko. But then again, she
thought bitterly, I haven't even tapped into half of my power…
Kouga turned to look back at her as they moved through the darkened forest, a
smirk lining his features. "So my Kagome, how are you liking the trip?"
Kagome scowled at him and looked away, turning her attention to the surrounding trees.
Kouga sighed. "Forgive me Kagome, but the only way I could get you to except me was to use that spell on you."
Kagome made an annoyed sound in the back of her throat.
The young man shook his head again and sighed before turning back around, "We're almost there now so you don't have to worry."
Kagome looked up at the man and noticed that they were coming closer to a break in the tightly packed trees. She made an attempt to gasp as the horses broke through the gap and came to a halt in a huge clearing. At one time the place might have been a village, but all that was left to suggest it were burnt foundations and broken boards. As her eyes wandered up she spotted the large castle in the distance, the huge dark building rising up against the blue sky in a foreboding manner. A large lake stood between the remnants of the village and the castle, shimmering with multiple lights as the setting sun's rays hit it.
"Beautiful isn't it Kagome?"
She looked down to the man beside her and glared, pulling her legs away as he reached up to dismount her.
"Now now my Kagome, you mustn't do that, I've brought you here to make you mine."
The girls eyes flew open wide with shock as Kouga revealed this tidbit of information. `NO!!!' she began to struggle as he pulled her off the horse and close to him, she opened her mouth to scream, just as a piercing wail was heard throughout all of the clearing, coming from the direction of the castle….
