To Hell and Back

Chapter 6:

The past week went by without a hitch. Inuyasha and Kagome haven't done anything too intimate aside from kissing and light touching above the waist and over clothing. The closer they get mentally and physically, the easier it seemed to be for Inuyasha's youkai to stay hidden. His youkai seemed to realize he had his relationship under control, for the most part now.

Neither of them have had nightmares the past week. Inuyasha, though, had woken up multiple times to Kagome moaning his name in her sleep. It took everything in him not to make her dreams become a reality. He knew she was not ready for that step quite yet, and they have their whole lives to be together.

Which brought more thoughts into his mind. He needed to ask her something really important, but he was unsure of quite how to do it. He's been thinking about it since they told each other they loved each other... but he had been too nervous to bring it up.

Today is the day of their first doctor's appointment, so he thought about it, and he's going to ask her afterwards. The jitters he felt at the moment was beginning to be too much for his racing heart.

He looked at the clock next to her bed and realized it's already one in the afternoon. They were up half the night just talking. Something he wasn't used to, but easily started to enjoy, as long as it was with Kagome. He slowly learned how to tell time in this world throughout all the times he had come here at an inopportune time, and she had angrily told him to look at the clock. He decided to try and learn for her, even back then.

He carefully turned Kagome over in the bed so she was facing him, and moved a strand of raven hair from her face to behind her ear.

"Kagome," he mumured, trying to get her up quietly. She lightly moaned something incoherent so he tried again, "Kagome."

"Uh-uh," he heard her whine at him not to wake her up. He only smiled at her. He thought she was so cute when she slept, especially when she didn't want to get up. Her whine and pout was just downright adorable. Not that he would admit such a thing out loud...

He decided it was time to use his backup plan. He cupped her cheek and pulled her face towards his, and as soon as their lips touched, she moaned softly and melted against him.

After only a few seconds, he pulled away, and it didn't go unnoticed when she practically growled at him for stopping. He could only smile down at her with a fang protruding from his lip.

She opened her eyes slowly to see his arrogant smirk, which only annoyed her. "What the hell are you smiling about?" she uncharacteristically scolded him.

His smile only grew wider at her choice of words. "Well, Ka-Go-Me... It seems I have been a bad influence on you." He leaned in to place tender kisses and love bites against her neck, right above her sensitive mating mark.

All irritation completely vanished at the feel of his lips and fangs against her. "Inu...yasha..." She unconsciously put her hands to the back of his neck and pulled his head closer to her mark. As soon as a fang stroked that spot lightly, she felt her entire body burn with the desire to be one with him.

He could smell the immediate spike in her arousal from just barely scraping his fang to her mark. He grinned against her with a light chuckle.

And that's when the irritation came returned. She put her hands to his chest and pushed him away from her to glare into his amused eyes. "Why must you annoy me with all your smirking and chuckling?"

The fiery passion within her chocolate gaze only fueled his ego more. It turned him on to no end to see the spitfire come forth from his mate.

"What would you rather I do, Ka-Go-Me?"

Her face flushed a bright crimson at his inclination. The way her name rolled off his tongue in that seductive way of his only made her more aroused. She ducked her head and hid her face into his chest, her breathing beginning to come in faster pants, her heartbeat speeding up erratically.

He responded by wrapping his arms more securely around her, and pulled her as close as their bodies would let them. He nuzzled his face on the top of her head, and breathed in her delicious scent.

"Kami, Kagome... aishiteru," he couldn't help but breath out as he held her close.

Kagome immediately pulled away and snapped her eyes up to look into his. Tears started to form behind her eyelids, but she didn't let them fall as she quickly captured his mouth with her own.

It was chaste, but still enough to heat up their blood. When she pulled away, she mumured, "Aishiteru, Inuyasha. So much."

They smiled at each other, feeling more happiness in their hearts than ever before. Then, without warning, Kagome felt the bile rise up to her throat. She scrambled off of the bed and ran to the bathroom before she ended up puking on the hanyou. Inuyasha was pulled out of his stupor when understanding dawned on him. This has been happening a lot the past week.

He followed her to the bathroom and warily walked in. His ears wilted at the sound and sight before him. He walked up to her and decided to try to help in anyway he can; he pulled her hair back out of her face with his right hand, and lightly stroked circles against her back with his left.

"Gomen, Kagome," he mumbled from his place directly behind her.

After she was finally done emptying all that was left within her stomach, she finally felt at least a little bit better. She stood up slowly, but still wobbled on her feet, Inuyasha steadying her around her waist, then he looked down at her with concern.

"Are you okay?"

Kagome nodded and tried to give him a reassuring smile, which came as more of a grimace. "Y-yeah... I'm gonna brush my teeth and take a quick shower before the appointment today. Oh! What time is it?"

"Uh... when I looked at the time thing it said one-something."

Her eyes widened, "Ughh. We gotta get ready to go." She put her hands to his chest and nudged him backwards until he backed completely out of the bathroom, then she shut and locked the door. Once she was given her much needed privacy, she brushed her teeth and then started the shower.

Inuyasha decided to go wait for her in her bedroom until she was done, then they would go downstairs together for breakfast.

He was sitting on her bed just breathing in her calming scent, he hadn't even realized it had already been twenty minutes until the bedroom door opened. He turned to look at her and his eyes practically bugged out of his face at the beauty standing in the doorway.

Kagome was standing there with just a fluffy pink towel wrapped around her body, barely concealing her breasts, and her wet hair draped over her shoulders, her skin glistening from the water. He could slightly see the top of her breasts from behind the towel. He didn't realize he was staring, but he at least had the sense to pick up his Tetsusaiga, which was leaning against the wall, and then clutched it tightly against his chest.

He didnt know he had started walking towards her until it was much too late. She had entered the room fully and closed the door before she realized Inuyasha was standing just a few inches in front of her barely covered up form. He looked her up and down, his fingers loosening around his sword, then it dropped onto the floor between them.

"Inuyasha... I uh... thought you would have gone downstairs."

Without responding to her statement, Inuyasha leaned in close, his breath puffing out against her ear. "You smell nice," he growled out seductively.

She gasped and backed up against the door to her bedroom, her body flushed as red as the robe of the fire rat. When she managed to look into his eyes, she saw the battle that was clearly waging within him. His eyes were flashing rapidly from gold to crimson and back again.

"Inu—"

He cut her off with his lips, a slight growl reverberating from deep within his throat. His left hand grabbed her right hip securely, and his right hand moved to be flat against the door behind her, directly next to the left side of her head.

Kagome unconsciously reached up and fisted the front of his suikan, pulling him closer to her as the kiss grew to be more passionate. When she felt her towel fall to the floor and pool around her feet, she immediately pulled away from him, and bent down to grab it, but a clawed hand stopped her by the wrist. He didn't grab her hard enough to hurt, just enough to stop her from doing what she was planning.

"Inu...yasha?"

He pulled her closer to him once again and snuggled his face into her neck, his hands tenderly stroking her bare back.

"Inuyasha, I gotta get dressed," she tried to reason. She knew he wasn't in his right mind at the moment, so she was trying to get him to understand as calmly as possible.

He growled at her protest and lightly nipped her mating mark in reprimand. That had sent shivers throughout her entire whole body, making her gasp and shove his chest lightly to have him back up a step. She covered her chest with her arms for at least some form of modesty, and spoke up again, this time with a noticable tremble in her voice.

"Inuyasha, Onegai. I'm... I'm not ready."

He growled, but slowly, very slowly, he bent down and picked up his fathers fang, clutching it against his chest once again. Once the Tetsusaiga was within his possession, his eyes stopped flashing, his normal golden hue visible once more. His eyes widened in horror as he backed away from her, turning his head in obvious shame and self disgust.

Kagome leaned down slowly and grabbed her towel to wrap herself back up. When she was covered up, she closed the distance between them and reached her hand out, but he backed away even more.

"Inuyasha..."

He turned back to face her, and realized with a bit of bewilderment that she didn't smell at all like fear. More like confusion mixed with concern, and a very small hint of... arousal? He felt as her hand rested on his cheek, and she leaned up to place a chaste kiss upon his lips.

When she pulled away, she smiled, happy to see her Inuyasha back.

"Gomen, Kagome... It's really hard to keep my youkai in check sometimes."

"I know... I'm not upset. You proved you were able to stop yourself. That means a lot to me, Inuyasha. Arigatō."

He smiled down at her, and then realized she was still in her towel. He averted his gaze with a blush and spoke, "So, uh... I'm gonna go downstairs and wait for you down there."

She nodded in understanding and watched as he left the room. She put her hand over her racing heart as she sat down on the edge of the bed to calm down for a moment. Why wasn't I scared? I was... excited...

When she finished getting dressed, she went downstairs and saw that Inuyasha was already eating his fill of ramen, her mother sitting across from him, sipping on some hot tea. She assumed her grandfather was outside in the shed again, and she knew her little brother was at school. They had decided not to have her go to school today since her first appointment with the doctor was this afternoon.

Kagome sat down next to Inuyasha just before her mother spoke up, "What would you like to eat, dear?"

Kagome immediately made a face of disgust, "Ughh... I can't eat anything."

"Come on, Kagome. It's not good for the baby... Why don't I make you a smoothie? That shouldn't be too hard to get down," her mother asked nicely.

She groaned in response as her mother stood up and started to get to work. Inuyasha finished his noodles and looked over to Kagome's face that obviously showed her disgust. His ears flattened to his head.

"I'm sorry you aren't feeling well," he mumbled just loud enough for her to hear.

She smiled at him. Ever since she got pregnant five weeks ago, he has been nonstop apologizing and just not acting like himself. He's been extremely caring and attentive too. As much as she likes this softer side of him, she does miss the brash and cocky hanyou that she had initially fallen in love with.

"It's okay, Inuyasha." She put her hand tenderly into his and they sat there in silence until her mom was finished with the smoothies.

Mrs. Higurashi put one in front of Kagome and even gave Inuyasha one for him to try as well, then she sat back down and began to drink one of her own. When Kagome didn't make a move to try it, Inuyasha picked the glass up and pushed the straw up to her lips.

Kagome growled at him and her eyes were full of warning. Inuyasha sighed and spoke up with conviction, "Kagome... you can osuwari me all you want, I'm not going to stop until you get something in your stomach."

She sighed and opened her mouth just enough to let the straw in. She hesitantly sucked and as the taste of fruit hit her tongue, her eyes widened. She didn't realize just how hungry she was. She grabbed the glass from his hands and started to chug the smoothy down.

"Kagome, dear. You might want to slow down," her mother spoke worriedly. The last thing they need is to have her drink it too fast, and then throw everything up again.

Kagome didn't want to, but knew it was in her best interest, so she stopped chugging, and started sipping instead. Inuyasha gave her a satisfied smirk. She glared at him for his smugness, but otherwise, finished her liquid meal happily.

Soon after lunch, the three of them left for the appointment. When they arrived, they sat in the waiting room to fill out tons of paperwork. Inuyasha was fidgeting and nervously shaking his leg while having to wait in this small room. All of the different smells were nauseating. Medicine, sickness, new pups, death.. He couldn't stand it. After what felt like forever, they heard a womans voice.

"Higurashi, Kagome?"

Kagome stood up and started to walk towards the woman. Inuyasha and her mother followed. The woman spoke to her again, "Hello. My name is Akari. I'm sorry, but only the mother and father of the baby can enter the room at the moment."

Kagome turned to her mom to give her an apologetic look but she only smiled in return and sat back down to wait.

They made it to a small room and Kagome sat on the patient bed, Inuyasha sat on a chair very close to her.

"So, Miss. Higurashi. I'm going to ask you a few questions before the doctor comes in. Is that okay?"

Kagome nodded her head in the affirmative, feeling slightly nervous. She turned to Inuyasha and could see the nervousness in him as well. I mean, this is really foreign to him.

"Okay. First of all, how old are you?"

Kagome blushed slightly and looked away from the womans stare to answer. "I'm fifteen."

Akari wrote that down in her notes and then turned back to Kagome. She smiled at her and added, "Don't worry, Miss. Higurashi. You are in a safe place and I won't judge you here."

Kagome turned to face the nurse and smiled in return.

"Okay. How old is the baby's father?"

Kagome flushed but answered before Inuyasha could respond. "Seventeen." She gave him a look as if to say, 'just follow my lead.' He seemed to understand when he nodded at her. He placed a hand to hers to help calm her nerves.

"Are you married?"

"Um.. not yet, but we will be."

Akari continued to write down her answers with absolutely no judgement in her demeanor. This calmed both the miko and hanyou a bit.

"Do you smoke or use any type of drugs?"

Kagome shook her head in the negative.

"Do you drink alcohol?"

"No."

"How long have you been sexually active?"

Kagome blushed again, "Um.. just the one time.. five weeks ago."

"Okay. Thank you for answering these questions. Now, if you don't mind young man, I would like to ask you to step out so I can speak to Kagome alone."

Inuyasha held onto Kagome's hand tighter and slightly rumbled in response. Kagome gave his hand a squeeze and a reassuring smile, "It's okay, Inuyasha." Inuyasha reluctantly let go and stepped out of the room. He stood right outside of the door where his yokai senses could pick up everything.

"Miss. Higurashi. I just have a few more questions to ask. Okay?"

Kagome nodded her head.

"Do you feel safe at home?"

Kagome gave her a questionable look in response.

"These are just routine questions that I have to ask. Please."

Kagome relaxed somewhat and answered, "yes."

Akari wrote down her answers to the notes page and asked another question. "Does your fiancé hurt you? Are you safe with him?"

Kagome's eyes widened. She immediately thought about the night of her rape and her heart started to race. Unknown to them, Inuyasha could hear the difference in her heart rate and his ears flattened to his head underneath the uncomfortable hat he is wearing, but waited for her answer.

She knew she couldn't tell them how the baby was conceived but she also knew she felt safe now. So it's not technically lying, "He doesn't hurt me. I feel completely safe with Inuyasha."

Akari smiled at that response and wrote down everything Kagome told her.

"Just one more question. When was your last menstrual cycle?"

"A few days before I conceived. So a little over five weeks ago."

"Thank you so much for your honest answers. I will go let your fiancé back in and then the doctor will be back shortly."

Kagome nodded her head and relaxed back into her laying position. A few seconds later, Inuyasha came in and sat back next to her. She didn't look at him but asked, "you could hear us, couldn't you?"

"Uh.. yeah."

They sat in silence for about ten minutes until the doctor came in. Kagome relaxed again, knowing it was another woman. Kami knows what Inuyasha would do to a male touching her body.

"Hi there. My name is Asami. I'm going to check you over today. Would you mind getting into a gown for me?" She hands Kagome a hospital gown and the doctor tells her she will return in a moment.

"Do you mind, Inuyasha?"

"I'll turn around but I don't want to leave you."

Knowing there was no way to get through to him without slamming his face into the floor, she agreed. "Fine. But no peaking."

"Keh."

Kagome got undressed and into the gown faster then she ever thought possible. After only fourty-five seconds, she got back into the bed and told him he can turn around now.

Another couple minutes go by and the doctor knocks on the door before entering. She came in with a large machine.

"Okay. So I understand you are only five weeks along. I'm going to do an ultrasound just to see if I can see anything, but don't get your hopes up because it's still so early."

She sat on Kagome's other side and set up the machine. She covered Kagome's lower body with a blanket so she can lift up her gown to show her stomach. Inuyasha lightly growled but he knew this woman meant her no harm or ill intent.

She placed some gel onto the small wand in her hand and went to press it to Kagome's stomach. "Okay, this is going to feel a little cold."

Kagome winced a little bit to the cold but grabbed onto Inuyasha's hand to let him know she's okay. All three of them looked at the screen in front of them and waited for what felt like hours. It was only about five minutes though of feeling around until the doctor said something.

"There. You see that, Kagome? That's the yolk sac. That is the first sign of the fetus growing."

Kagome and Inuyasha are both at a loss for words. They are staring intently at the little life growing in her womb.

"Okay. So it seems that everything is going perfectly. Are you taking your prenatal vitamins?"

"Yes."

"Good. I'm going to need to do a vaginal exam so if you don't mind, we need some privacy."

Inuyasha did not like the sound of that but after Kagome glared at him with the threatening look, he caved.

After the doctor was finished with her final exam, she let Inuyasha back in. Kagome told him to turn around again so she could get dressed. When she finished, her and Inuyasha left to go to her mother in the waiting room.

They met up with her mother and Mrs. Higurashi had tons of questions. After they answered each one, they left the hospital and started heading back to the shrine.

Inuyasha kept thinking about the thing he's been wanting to ask Kagome and he figured it's now or never.

"Um.. Kagome.. Can we talk?" Kagome gave him a confused look and then looked at her mother who was trying to hide a knowing smile. Her mom didn't actually know what he wanted to talk to her daughter about, but she knew it was personal so she decided to give them some space. She told them she would meet them back at home and she left to give them their much needed privacy.

Inuyasha took Kagome's hand in his and they continued to walk in silence. They ended up coming to a park and sitting down on a bench under a tree. He looked extremely nervous so she stroked the back of his hand with her thumb.

He turned to her and moved her hair from her face to gaze lovingly into her eyes.

"Kagome.."

"Yes?"

"I've uh.. been thinking.. You are my mate and uh.. you love me, right?"

She smiled back at him and told him she loves him so much.

He continued to stroke her cheek, "So.. uh.. would you want to live as long as me if you could?"

Her eyes widened in shock. "Th-that's possible?"

It's not really the answer he was hoping for but it also wasn't a no. "Um.. yeah. It's true that we are mated. But.. We can make that bond stronger if you leave a mark on me. Even without having yokai teeth, the bond will understand the meaning behind such an act and your mark will be left wherever you bite. It'll only work if you knowingly try to leave one. Is that..uh.. something you would want to do?"

Kagome felt tears burning behind her eye lids, "of course I want to do that! I would love to live your lifespan with you." She wraps her arms around his neck and snuggles her face into his chest. "Aishiteru."

He rested his chin on top her head and wrapped his own arms around her waist. "A-Ashiteru, Kagome."

Soon after that heartfelt conversation, they headed back home. Unfortunately, fate had other ideas.

"Kagome!" Kagome froze in her tracks. 'Kami, please no.'

She turned around to see none other then Hojo waving at her and running towards them. He stops directly in front of them and practically ignores Inuyasha's presence even though Inuyasha is obviously scowling at the human boy.

"Hi, Kagome. How are you feeling?"

"Uh.. I'm feeling fine, Hojo."

He looked down at her hands and saw something that looked like a picture. "What's that?" He reached for it and before she could pull it back, he grabbed it. His eyes widened when he realized what it was.

"K-Kagome. Th-this is a sonogram. You're.. pregnant?"

Inuyasha snatched the picture from the boys hands and held it possessively. He then grabbed Kagome by the waist and pulled her close to him.

"Damn right. With my pu- baby." He stopped himself before saying what came naturally and went with the more human terminology.

Hojo's face turned red and his fists clenched. "Why? How?"

"I'm uh.. sorry Hojo. I tried to tell you before, I'm with Inuyasha. We've decided to get married."

Hojo shows them anger that he has never let out before. "So you're just a whore who sleeps with the first guy that gives himself to you." That wasn't a question, but a statement, as if it was a fact.

Kagome eyes widened in shock and a tear threatened to escape. Inuyasha growled at the stupid human and held her more possessively then before.

"You're wrong. Now I suggest you leave before you regret it." Inuyasha warned him before his yokai came out too much.

"Whatever. Bye, Higurashi." Hojo turned and left without another word.

Inuyasha nuzzled his face into Kagome's neck. "Are you okay, Koibito?"

"Y-yeah, I'm-" Then she pushed his face to look into his eyes. "Koibito? You've never called me that before."

Inuyasha immediately blushed, "y-you don't like it?" Then he smelled her and smirked. "Oh, So you like it a little too much."

Kagome blushed furiously, "Sh-shut up. You and your stupid nose gets on my freakin' nerves."

Inuyasha only smirked at her response and choice of words before grabbing her hand and leading her back to the shrine.

When they returned, they immediately went upstairs with almost no words to the rest of the family. Kagome closed and locked the door behind her and turned back to the confused hanyou.

"So. How do I mark you?"

Inuyasha was surprised at her bluntness and walked closer to her. "However you like. Wherever you like." He huskily spoke into her ear as he backed her up against the bedroom door.

She looked into his eyes and hesitated for a moment. Then she leaned in to kiss him. When they parted, she kissed and licked the spot between his neck and shoulder, exactly where her mark is.

"K-Kagome.." He then felt her bite down, hard. He immediately moaned at the feeling and then after a moment, pulled away from her.

When he looked into her eyes, she was staring up at his crimson orbs. For a moment, her fear spiked but a light hand to her cheek calmed her.

"Don't be afraid, mate. This is normal. Now we have to finish the process."

"Wh-what do you mean?"

He didn't answer, instead he took one of his claws and sliced a small incision to his own wrist. "I'm sorry, but this is going to hurt. Do you trust me, Koibito?"

She nodded her head and he did the same to her wrist. She winced in slight pain but otherwise, felt okay. She watched him intently as he lifted both their wrists to put them together. As their blood intertwined, they felt an amazingly strong bond to each other. They felt exactly how the other was feeling and knew what the other was thinking.

After a moment of their wrists together, he pulled away and placed her wrist to his lips and started licking slowly. She watched him with each movement he made. Then she got the idea and grabbed his wounded wrist and put it to her own mouth.

They licked, kissed, sucked and swallowed each others blood. They could feel the yoki and Reiryoku twirling within their bodies and colliding together in perfect harmony. The entire time, their eyes never stopped looking at each other. Crimson meeting chocolate.

When they finally stopped, Kagome looked to her wrist and noticed, not a cut or a scar. But another mark. This one was also a crescent moon, but instead of it being purple, it was half pink and half red, intertwining together like a twister. Symbolizing the mix between their yokai and miko blood. His was the same.

When she looked back into his eyes she didn't see the crimson that was there just a moment ago, but a very bright amber. She smiled up at him before lauching herself into his arms, almost causing him to stumble backwards.

"Wow. I feel so.. different." Kagome said to him.

"Me too. It's a good different."

"Yeah."

When they finally released from their intimate embrace, they went downstairs to have dinner with her family. Kagome decided to tell them about the mating and how permanent it really is. Including her extended life span.

Souta thought it was super cool and he was really excited about it. Her mother was weary at first but quickly came around and welcomed Inuyasha into the family as her official 'son in law.' Gramps was a whole different story. It took a while, but he finally came around, especially since Kagome was with child. Inuyasha was definitely a part of the family now.

After dinner, Kagome packed up her yellow bag with ninja food, tons of ramen, coloring books and crayons for shippo, clothes, soaps, and extra medical supplies for their long journey.

They said goodbye and then left to jump back into the well that transcends time.
