A/N: Don't worry…I've got another couple of chapters before I 'dive' right into the plot….but I promise…I'm getting there!!! Okay, on with it!!!

Not another flat tire!

Kagome groaned as she hopped off the side of her bicycle. It was one of her favorite modern conveniences in the Feudal Era. She dreaded an interlude up coming with the next trip home. At least this time, she was already near Kaede's village hut and Inuyasha was mute about the issue.

Sighing, she rolled her metal-base wheeled contraption to the front of the hut.

So much for independence in this era!

Kagome sipped at her fruit juice and shed her heavy backpack from her shoulders. The weight was nearly crushing her this time. It was a wonder that her balance was as good as it was...and on that darned bike? Of all the things she would be best at - with all the running around, demon chasing, shard hunting, and archer's practice…her usefulness was short-lived - in her mind, anyway….

Oh yeah, let's not forget my habit of tripping! You're really smart, Kagome-girl! One day, she would have to stop doing that.

Taking out some of the 'stir-fry' and rice rolls she made in her time for her Feudal Era friends, she prepared a long awaited feast for a well-deserving old priestess, kit, monk, demon exterminator, and her favorite ramen-loving hanyou. 'Of course, I don't see anyone else around here that fits that description.' She knew what to expect from his silent inquiry and forfeited a cup of ramen noodles to ease his impatience while she passed around the rest of her treats.

Her friends, were of course, polite, and obliged her and hoarded her with compliments of her 'oh so great' culinary skill.

The season promised longer, warmer days, and humid nights at best. She pulled out her battery powered fan. It might come in handy as the summer progressed. She honestly wished the days and nights to be merciful while she concentrated on her mission here in Feudal Japan.

'Thank goodness for modern clothes! I can't believe Mama found this skirt - skort - whatever it's called - for me to wear! At least this provides some amount of protection from wandering hands!'

Kagome shuddered as she recalled the last few times she was caught in quite embarrassing predicaments because the people in Feudal Japan deemed it necessary to touch her derriere - all on the account that they thought her apparel was too short! 'Well, maybe it is…but, I really do feel odd wearing this time's clothing in any case.'

Her memories buzzed around her mind…the last time, that Mukotsu - that poison user - had strange intentions toward her…he even had planned a wedding! '…the nerve of him!' She was still upset over that incident, but found solace based on the fact that Sesshoumaru had not deliberated acts of harm against her and her friends….that and Inuyasha and Kouga fought in their stead against that metal monster and - who were they again? Oh well, didn't matter now. They were gone.

She was safe, once more, with all her favorite people. She would let the matter rest.

The depth of the darkness in his heart was, without doubt, nothing to trifle against. His agitation increased when he learned the truth of Kagome's ancestry.

It was his business to know her allegiances and comrades.

She was not the true enemy.

No. Just a means to an ends.

He had tried, in the past, to make a pact - of sorts - with Kikyo to combat against the newly-founded Keeper of the Shikon no Tama. He was not at odds with Kagome. There was nothing he had been able to use against her in this era that had been capable of forcing her hand. So far, all his attempts made against Kagome had proven futile.

Well, he wasn't really after her anyway.

'Too bad, really. I would unquestionably thrust all devotion into blackening that woman's heart...if not for these other….'

Lusts.

He - no, Onigumo - had only desired Kikyo….dead, alive, undead…it didn't matter so long as Kikyo was made corrupt. Somehow, that had failed too.

No! Not failed.

He would have the covetous desire of his heart.

Kagura had yet to receive her reprimand. She was his perverse trinket. The only one he could truly wield power over, for the time, at least. Nobody else needed to know how she would play into his scheme. Nobody needed to know his true power.

Her freedom?

He scoffed at the thought. He would give it to her….but not before using her for his body's contentment and his mind's delight.

He would have the complete jewel.

He would have Kikyo's life - all of it. Sure, she had fallen. But her body's sacrifice had not been enough.

His sinister heart chortled from the wicked plot that possessed his mind.

He would ease his need for fulfillment with the love of Kikyo's foolish life.
