*Chapter Ten: Be Happy*
I closed the door to Kagome's room. I can't believe she was going to kill herself. I can't trust her by herself anymore. I don't want to leave her alone now, but, I can't do anything about it either. I walked back downstairs and lay on the couch. Now all I can think of is how I got this way. I have fangs, claws, and even dog ears! It's like I'm in some weird fantasy story. But it's all real. The pain is real. So I can do nothing but believe it. I closed my eyes and let sleep wash over me.
I got up the next morning to the smell of eggs and bacon. I got up and walked into the kitchen. Kagome's mother was cooking. She smiled at me, "Good morning Inu Yasha. Did you sleep well?" I nodded, "Yep. Thanks again for allowing me to stay here." She held up her spatula, "It's okay dear, you are welcome in this house for as long as you like. As long as you're here, this is your house too." I smiled, "Thank you." She continued to cook the bacon, "Would you like some breakfast?" I just realized that I was slightly drooling from the smell and my stomach was rumbling, "Yes please." She served a heaping amount of eggs and bacon on a plate along with three slices of toast, "You must be tired from yesterday. Eat up!' I eagerly gobbled down the food. It was delicious, and surprisingly, I ate it all.
Kagome's mother asked, "So, Inu Yasha, how is that wound?" I got up and began to unwrap the bandages. I gasped. The wound had already closed up! "Oh my God! How did it heal so fast!?" Mrs.Higurashi smiled, 'It's probably because you've turned into a hanyou." So she knows too. I asked, "I want to know more about that other Inu Yasha. Kagome told me a little bit about him, but I'm still not sure. I want to know more about the person I reincarnated from." Mrs.Higurashi pursed her lips in thought, "I didn't know Inu Yasha too well. He would come over every once in a while to wait for Kagome to come back from school. He often came over to eat too. But all in all, he was a nice boy, though he didn't want anybody to say so. He was also very strong-willed, I don't want to call him stubborn. It also seemed that he was very protective of Kagome. He may not have realized it, but at the slightest sign of danger, he'd run to Kagome to protect her. That's the only reason I allowed Kagome to return to the world beyond the well. I knew she'd be safe with him." I thought about that. He was really protective of Kagome. Maybe I am too. I mean, I almost got myself killed when I brought her out of that cafe in the blizzard. Also last night, when I heard her scream.
My ears perked up. They could do that now since they were dog ears. I heard somebody coming downstairs. Then I sniffed the air. It was Kagome. She came into the kitchen and smiled, "Hi Inu Yasha." I said, "Hey. Eat something, your probably hungry." She sat down across the kitchen table and served her self a small portion of eggs. I asked her, "What should I do when school starts? I can't keep on wearing a hat all the time." Kagome put down her fork, "We can think about that later I guess. It's a good thing we're on summer vacation, otherwise we'd be in trouble." As she ate, I saw she trued to avoid eye contact with me. She didn't want to look me in the eye after she told me she was about to kill herself. Well I wouldn't blame her. She probably feels ashamed. I did after that woman stopped me from killing myself. Mrs.Higurashi smiled and went back upstairs. Kagome shifted in her seat. I asked, "Kagome, do you still want to hurt yourself?" She stopped eating. She stared down into her lap and answered, "No. I can't. Inu Yasha won't let me." "What?" "Inu Yasha won't let me. I was about to do it... but I felt Inu Yasha's hands grab mine and throw the blade away. Then I heard him whisper to me. He told me no. Now I know that I can't do it. If I ever try again, Inu Yasha will be there to stop me." So he still protects her. Even from so far away, even in death, he still strives to keep her safe.
I got up and looked out of the window. It was really bright. Kagome got up too, but she went outside. I don't want to leave her alone. So I followed her. I found her sitting in front of the Goshinboku. She told me about it once. It had all of her memories. She also told me that it's the same tree where Inu Yasha was bound to. She found him there. Before she released him, the tree wouldn't bloom, but now, she says, it blooms every year. I walked over to her. I heard her crying. She whispered, "Go away." I blinked. She never told me to go away before, "Why?" She continued crying, "Just go. Please." I stepped closer. She glanced up at me, her eyes red and swollen from crying, "Leave me alone." I stopped, "Kagome-" She yelled, "GO AWAY!" I stared at her for a moment. Her eyes were full of anger and sadness. I asked, "What is it? Why are you so upset? Is it me?" Kagome turned her head away. I Asked again, "Is it!?" She put her head down and whispered, "Yes." I closed my eyes, "Is it because I look like Inu Yasha?" She nodded and started shaking. I started to walk back to the house, "So I'll leave you alone. I trust you won't do anything to hurt yourself again."
I got back into the house and slumped myself into a chair. I'll believe Kagome when she says she can't kill herself. But according to her, now that Naraku has the rest of the Shikon Jewel, the world is going to end sooner or later. Since she was the one who had to guard the jewel, and she had to give it to him, she thinks she's the one to blame. She thinks it's her fault the world is going to end. But, it's not fair that she's the only one to take the blame for that. It's impossible for something that important to be put under one person's responsibility. Besides, her intentions are, and always have been good. It's not like she ever wanted it to be this way. It's Naraku who made her life miserable. His fault that she suffered when he killed her friends. So, now that he has the jewel, whatever happens to us and the rest of the world is all his fault.
Just then, Souta came into the room, "Hey Inu Yasha!" I got up, "Hey. What's up?" Souta grinned and sat down on a chair by me, "I dunno. Where's Kagome?" I sighed, "She's out by the Goshinboku. She needs some time alone, so don't bother her." Souta nodded, "Okay. Hey, you want to go somewhere? There's nothing to do here. Besides, Kagome's birthday is next weekend, I need to get her something, and mom won't let me go out alone." My ears perked up, "Kagome's birthday? When? She didn't say anything." Souta said, "September third. It's on the first day of school, so mom and grandpa and I decided that we could celebrate the day before. That's why I wanted to go out. We need to get some party stuff, and gifts." I got up, "So what are you waiting for!? We gotta go!"
Souta didn't want Kagome to know we were going out. He said she would get suspicious and when we got back she'd snoop through the stuff we bought. So, I grabbed my hat, and we snuck out the back. Once we were out on the street I ran back over to my house. I snuck into my room and took all of the money I'd saved up. I guess I can't come back home for a while, so I better take it all. I ran back outside and Souta smirked, "Mission complete." I laughed, "Yeah. I can't let my grandpa catch me, he thinks I'm going camping and stuff."
Souta ran through the city really fast. I could catch up with him though because I had become a hanyou, otherwise, I'd have probably been left behind a long time ago. I ran into Souta when he stopped suddenly. Everybody on the street looked at us as we tried to get up. Souta grinned, "I'm gonna get that for Kagome!" He pointed through the glass window of the jewelry boutique. It was a beautiful hairpin, lined with small sapphire gems, and a small butterfly lined in sapphires on the end. I stared in awe at it. It was really beautiful. It would look beautiful on Kagome. After about five minutes, Souta laughed, "Are you done admiring it?" I shook my head to get back on track, "Oh yeah. Sorry. How can you afford this!?" "Oh, my friend's dad works here, so he's giving me a discount. Plus, I've been saving for the whole year. I finally have enough!" I smiled, "Good for you. But now I don't know what to get Kagome." Souta probably didn't hear me, because he already ran into the store. He grabbed the hairpin and held it in front of my face, "See the sapphires? It's Kagome's birthstone!" I nodded, "Good idea. She'll love it." Souta eagerly ran up to the register to pay for it when I started to look around the store. Maybe I could find something for Kagome too. But Souta already got her jewelry. Maybe I'll go somewhere else and find something. Souta came back with a wide smile. He was hugging the bag that had he jewelry box in it. I laughed, "C'mon, I gotta find something too."
We were walking around the city for a while. I wasn't satisfied with anything. Nothing seemed to be good enough for Kagome. I wanted to buy her something that would make her smile again. She was so upset, I just wanted to get her something to make her forget about everything and laugh. Finally I stopped. There was a really small, dark store next to the department store. It was barely visible. I went in. Souta grabbed my arm, "It's creepy in here." It was. It was really dark, candles illuminating only a small portion of the shop. There were glass display cases showing of amazing crystal works. They were shaped into many different shapes. Dogs, cats, trees, houses, flowers. What really caught my eye was a big, 15 inch crystal figurine shaped like an angel, kneeling, it's arms crossed over her legs and face. It looked like it was crying, it's wings drooped down, almost covering it. Like a fallen angel who didn't know how to get back home. Souta stared at it in awe, "It's beautiful, Inu Yasha! You should get it!" I nodded, "Yeah. This'll be good." I went up to the front of the store and rang the small bell. Out of the back came an old woman, "Yes dears, how may I help you?" I pointed to the case, "I want to buy that crystal angel over there. How much?" The woman smiled, "That'll be $150.00 please." I opened my wallet. Damn, it's a lot of money but, it's a good piece of work. I gave the woman the money and she pulled out a big ring of keys from under the desk. She unlocked the casing and took out the figurine. Then she walked back to the desk and took out a box with padding for the sides so the figurine wouldn't get damaged. Once the figurine was package safely, I took the box, thanked the woman, and left. Once we were outside, Souta said, "That's a great present. She'll love it, she's always loved angels." I smiled, "This'll make her feel better."
Suddenly Souta shouted, "HEY! THEIF!" Souta started running after a man who had his bag. I shoved the box in Souta's arms, "Hold this. Wait here." Then I ran and chased after the burglar. That bastard isn't going to steal that, not after Souta worked so hard to buy it. Not after he tried to make Kagome happy. Since I was a hanyou, my speed increased a lot, even though I was already pretty fast before. After about two minutes of running, I leaped onto the other guy. He fell and dropped the bag. Once I had the bag safely inside my pocket, I punched the guy on the face, "Bastard. The little kid worked harder than you to get that, so you decide to stoop down so low to steal it from him. That's pathetic." The man cowered below me, "Please! Don't hurt me! I was just-" "Just what!? You have no right to take what's not yours!" I kicked him in the stomach and turned around, "Let that be a lesson for you."
Souta had seen the whole thing. His jaw dropped, "Wow! You're amazing Inu Yasha!" I smirked and handed him back the hairpin, "I didn't want him to get away with this. It's for Kagome." Souta smiled and gave me back the box.
For the rest of the afternoon, Souta and I stopped around a lot of party stores, buying streamers, gift wrap, balloons, the works. We had to get a party started next weekend. We were up to our eyes in huge shopping bags full of snacks and party goods. I carried about fourteen bags, Souta carried three. We got back to the shrine and snuck in from the back again. Souta shoved everything under his bed. Then we casually walked downstairs to avoid any suspicion. It didn't work. Kagome came up to us grinning mischieviously, "What are you two up to?" I glanced down at Souta, and Souta glanced up at me. Then we ran out the front door screaming. It was fun. Kagome ran outside too yelling for us to get back inside. Eventually we got tired and we all went back inside. I hope we can all have fun like this for a long time. Especially on Kagome's birthday. I want to make her happy then.
*End Chapter Ten*
InvincibleInuYasha: Ah, Chapter Ten is done! So I'll go take a nap now. Anyway, yeah, I like angels too, I just had to make Inu Yasha buy that. I'd love one of those for my birthday! Anyway, I thought a fallen angel would suit Kagome at a time like this since she's all lost and confused. I might draw a pic of it and make some fanart. Maybe I'll draw it when she's opening it. So I'll see all of you next chapter! I'll work on it ASAP! REVIEW!
