Epilogue
The gang had finally settled into a peaceful lifestyle. Kagome and Inuyasha's honeymoon was a dream come true. Kagome had decided to spend there honeymoon in her timeline.
They visited lots of fascinating places; Inuyasha had never seen so many beautiful sights filled with so many wonders. Kagome delighted in his curiosity and excitement; she shared in his experience as if seeing everything for the first time through his eyes.
They spent the last few weeks of their honeymoon in her home town; Kagome wanted Inuyasha to see where she spent most of her life growing up. She took him to the schools she attended, and took him to meet her closest friends. She showed him her favorite places, and she wanted to share this part of her life with him before they returned to live in his. They had a fantastic time.
Once they returned through the well; Sango and Miroku announced their engagement and the wedding would be held in a week's time. Kagome and Inuyasha were very happy for them both and hugged their friends wishing them every happiness.
Shippo had also met a beautiful young woman. They started seeing each other shortly after Kagome and Inuyasha left for their honeymoon. Kagome knew in her heart he would be very happy with her and had a vision of them standing facing one another as he slipped a ring upon a fair haired beauty before a crystalline waterfall with flowers growing upon the banks of the peaceful lake where she accepted his proposal. Kagome smiled inwardly, for she was so happy her heart felt as if it would burst.
Inuyasha had returned to where he was brought up, and renovated the home he and his parents had once shared. He made sure it was suitable for his bride. The house would become a home with the help of Miroku and Shippo, and they constructed two houses for Sango and Miroku and for Shippo at Kagome's request, but when Inuyasha asked why she smiled and held a finger to her lips and giggled as she placed it on his keeping her own council. Inuyasha grinned in understanding and told her he would not say a word, and she kissed his cheek. They all wanted to live in a close knit community.
Kaede had decided to remain in her village, for it was the only place she considered home, but she visited often.
As the months past by Kagome noticed she was feeling sick just about all the time. One morning Inuyasha heard her get up and stumble into the bathroom.
"Are you okay sweetheart? ... You look awful," he said in a worried tone.
"Maybe these new powers of mine are too much for me, and it's draining me," she replied in a fragile tone.
"Why don't we go to see Kaede tomorrow and see if she can help?" he suggested.
Kagome nodded as she felt another wave of nausea coming on.
~*~
Morning had arrived and they went to see Kaede. Once they'd arrived; Kagome went through her symptoms that included throwing up all the time, and told Kaede she felt quite weak afterwards. Inuyasha explained she was also sleeping a lot these days. Kaede listened intently, and looked at them and smiled warmly at the young couple.
"Why are you smiling? ... Kagome's life could be in danger!" shouted Inuyasha.
"I don't think so," Kaede said shaking her head. "If I'm not mistaken, I believe Kagome is with child!" she announced to a stunned couple.
"What!" Inuyasha, Kagome and their friends shouted in unison, and then Inuyasha passed out.
Once he came to; he began to digest the significance of Kaede's statement and couldn't believe it.
"Are you sure, Kaede?" he asked making sure he heard correctly.
"Well, I think it would be best if she returned to her own time and consulted a physician , but I'm assuming she is," Kaede said smiling at Inuyasha and Kagome.
Sango hugged a still surprised Kagome.
"I'm so happy for you guys," she said hugging Kagome.
Inuyasha walked over to Kagome and sat by her side and took her into his arms then kissed her passionately.
"I can't believe it... me a father ... how wild!" he laughed as they held each other close.
"And what about me, I'm going to be a mom!" she added kissing Inuyasha's nose.
They were stunned by the news. Inuyasha and Kagome made the trip back home to Kagome's time. What Kaede said had been confirmed; Kagome was with child.
Kagome's mother was so happy for her daughter and proud of her son in law. Kagome and Inuyasha traveled back and forth to see the gynecologist throughout the duration of her pregnancy. Everything was going great, but not to well for Inuyasha. It was pure torture to encounter Kagome's many mood swings. He was scared of her; she could get as mad as a cheetah at times, then as docile as a kitten the next. Kagome's mother had warned Inuyasha about this, but nothing prepared him for the real thing.
The next morning Kagome woke and moved slowly to use the bathroom to discover her water had broken. She woke Inuyasha.
"Inuyasha I think it's time," she told him.
"Time for what?" he replied sleepily.
"The baby to come you idiot!" she chided.
Inuyasha sprang into action; he threw on his clothes and went to wake Sango, Miroku and Shippo.
"It's time guys ... we need to get her to the well," he shouted as his friends moved like lightning to get ready for the journey.
They passed through the well, stopping on the way to get Kagome's family, and then rushed her to the hospital.
Kagome's contractions were becoming more frequent as her mother held her daughter's hand while getting her to breathe deeply; her labor progressed quickly. The nursing staff assisted Kagome into a smock and helped her onto the bed making her as comfortable as possible, and all was made ready. She smiled at her mother and Inuyasha and her friends as she prepared herself to give birth.
"I want you to relax Kagome, and I want you to be brave and when I ask you to push take a deep breath and give it all you can, okay?" the doctor said gently as Sango wiped Kagome's brow with a wash cloth.
"I'm ready, doctor!" she said nervously.
"Kagome ... push now ... that's it, I want you to take another deep breath ... now push!" she told Kagome.
"I'm pushing as hard as I can ... is anything happening yet?" she cried.
"You're doing fine ... the baby's moving into position ... now push again Kagome!" the doctor cried once more.
Kagome did as she was asked; Inuyasha held her hand and stroked it gently offering words of encouragement and love. This spurred Kagome on, for Inuyasha wished to help her in any way he could. She had a very tight grip on his hand, but he didn't care, for he only wanted her pain to stop.
"I can see the head ... it's, it's all white." The doctor said smiling.
No one was surprised since Inuyasha had a mane of pure white hair.
"It's coming ... it's a boy, you have a son!" the doctor announced as Kagome returned the doctors smile and Kagome winked at her husband.
Inuyasha was extremely happy; their child looked just like Inuyasha down to his cute little ears. They were going to have trouble explaining that one. The doctor placed him at Kagome's breast.
"He's beautiful, Inuyasha ... he looks just like you, I love you, my dear husband," she said as the little hands clung to her breast as their first born took her nipple into his mouth and began to feed.
"I love you too, my love,"
Everyone stood in an arc around the maternity bed along side the doctor who wiped her brow with a face cloth and congratulated the new parents as their overjoyed and ecstatic friends poured their good wishes upon the radiant young mother and child.
"What are you going to name him?" asked Shippo.
"Well, after his fath' ... but Kagome didn't finish her statement, for she was panting as pain shot through her body.
"Doctor, something's wrong ... Kagome's in great pain!" Sango cried as the doctor moved towards the bed, and Kagome handed the baby to his father.
Kagome's doctor examined her carefully, and then she turned to the nurse standing a short distance away from the bed and called her forward to assist.
"Nurse, get over here quickly ... she's having another one!" she said as everyone looked at one another, in surprise. Kagome's eyes appeared to have doubled in size at this unexpected, yet wonderful turn in events.
"What!" they screamed in unison.
"Push Kagome ... push I think this one should be a lot quicker as your muscles have expanded after the first baby's arrival!" cried the doctor who found herself excited whenever delivering twins.
Inuyasha stood to one side holding his son in his arms. The infant then wrapped his tiny fingers around his father's index finger and tugged at it, bringing a smile to Inuyasha's face. He needed a distraction right now as he found the situation both joyful and nerve wracking. He couldn't believe it when the doctor had announced another baby was on the way.
Kagome pushed one last time, and out came the second baby.
"You have a little girl!" pronounced the doctor who was beaming as the nurse quickly wiped their second child with a warm cloth and handed her to a smiling Kagome, who by this time was so happy, tears of relief and joy poured down her pink cheeks.
Their daughter also took after Inuyasha, for her hair was also pure white. She had his ears, but she had Kagome's eyes and beautiful smile. The doctor placed her in Kagome's arms, and it wasn't long before her daughter drank eagerly at her mother's breast. They couldn't believe it; they had twins. After her little girl had her fill; she kissed her babies and held them close.
"Oh Kagome ... I am so happy" said Inuyasha as he kissed Kagome's sweet lips and with a gentle touch stroked the heads of his children.
"So what are you going to name them, Kagome?" asked Miroku smiling at his friend while stealing a glance at his fiancé.
"Well he is going to be Inuyasha junior, and as for our daughter, I would like to name her Kikyo ... If it weren't for her, I would never have been with Inuyasha," she smiled looking at her smiling husband and her friends. "Kikyo wasn't actually an evil person, for it was only her remains that were cursed ... she was once a good woman, who loved life and loved Inuyasha," she explained as they listened to her reasons and nodded. Kagome then looked at Inuyasha.
"Is that okay with you, Inuyasha?" she asked looking into his eyes.
"If that's what you want, it’s fine by me," Inuyasha replied as he looked at his family lovingly.
He finally had a family of his own; he had never been more happier than he felt at this moment on this incredibly magical day. He had what he always wanted most in life, and he knew they would be together always.
