Lost
The mood was gone. Actualy, everyone was in good spirits. Which was weird because normaly someone was sour. It was like a way of life. But no, everyone was happy. Toimya was along five months.
Her stomach was huge. It was a hassle to get around at all. But at least she wasn't alone. Kagome had found out that she was going to have a baby too. She laughed remembering the look on Inuyasha's face when he figured it out.
Was her stomach supposed to hurt this much? Oh wow her head was woozy. Wait a moment. What was that? That figure in the bushes? Maybe she should go away. Then everything was dark...
Shippou was sitting with Inuyasha. The look on his face was priceless!
"So? How do you feel?" Shippou was grinning
"Light headed" he answered quietly
Shippou laughed "Wait until the vomiting comes. Then you'll be really light headed"
Inuyasha's head was in his hands. "This is...weird, but not bad. I'm kinda happy"
Shippou looked down at his feet. "I'm starting to think that I'm in a bad situation. This is all happening to me too fast. I love Toimya, but...I don't know if I can do it. What if this kid turns out to be the next Naraku because its parents were to young to teach it right from wrong?"
"You don't need to worry about that. I don't think that will be a problem."
"Well...what if...what if she's not strong enough? She could die in childbirth"
"She won't and if she does, we'll have Sesshomaru revive her"
He thought for a moment. Then a scent struck him. "Oh...Oh no. Please no!"
Inuyasha's head sprung up. "Whats wrong?"
"I smell blood"
"What? I don't smell any blood."
"Not that kind of blood. Menstrul blood. And it's Toimya's"
"But...she's...she shouldn't..."
"Exactly" he sprang up out of his seat before Inuyasha could say another word.
He was by her side within a minute.
She was unconcious, and her lower end was in a pool of blood. He lifted her up and held her close to his body. Totally aware that her blood was staining his clothes.
"Toimya...I'm so sorry. I...I love you. Please wake up."
"Sh...Shippou?"
"Yes" he sat down, and held her closer to him. He stroked her hair. It was bloodstained at the bottom. "Oh Toimya...wh...whatever happens don't forget I love you"
She was trying very hard to control herself, but those words...she couldn't withold her greif any longer. She cried into his chest uncontrolably.
Inuyasha came into the picture. "Shippou...I...I think you can handle this alone"
"Thank you" he said softly. He felt her breath unsteadily on his chest.
"But one thing first" he said quietly "This wasn't natural. You probably don't smell it but it's not all menstrul blood. I think she was attacked" he left without another word
Shippou had known. It was impossible not to. And he would kill the demon, as soon as he was done comforting Toimya.
"Shippou" she said between sobs
"Don't waste you're breath please" he told her quietly "You need rest. I'm going to take you to the other women"
"Please. Don't leave me" she pleaded with him.
"I'll be back I promise. I have to kill the demon that did this to you" he whispered into her hair. "I couldn't live with myself knowing that it's out there alive. I'll send it to the depths of Hell for what it did to you"
She fell asleep in his arms again.
'So this is what it feels like. To want to kill something for vengance. For the woman I love. I don't like it' he thought
He brought her back to the village and left her in Kagome's care.
"Ask Inuyasha he can tell you most of it. I'll be back soon"
He walked out the door. He was normaly so cheerful, he knew that this was a drastic attitude change. But he was acting as he felt. Cold. Cold but not alone. He was acting like he was alone, but it was a hard thing to explain. He wanted to be with Toimya, but he felt like he had to protect her. He couldn't protect her from what had happened but he could give her the closure of knowing that it was dead.
He didn't know what he was looking for, except something that smelled like her.
Within minutes he found it. An awful little weakling. It looked a lot like Jaken had only it was black and wasn't wearing clothes.
He snuck up on it and lifted it up by the throat and pinned it to a tree.
"Do you have anything to say to me before I kill you?" he asked it with an icy look in his eye.
"Doesn't this make you just as low as me?" it asked, ghasping for air.
"You killed my unborn child, and severley injured my mate. I can't let her go on in the world knowing the murderer of our baby is alive" he grasped his neck harder
"What? Which one are you talking about?"
"How many others have you killed today? What did you think I was talking about?"
"Kind, merciful sir, I must kill many to eat. As you desire meat, fruit, and bread I feed on unborn children"
"You picked the wrong girl to mess with!"
"Sir I must eat!"
"And I must protect my family" he used his claws to cut his head clean off and threw it angrily at a far away tree.
He headed towards the village. He felt no remorse for the demon. It had deserved to die. It was a disgusting little creature.
But now Toimya needed him. She was hurt inside and out. He didn't think she'd ever be the same again.
He was by her side in five minutes. Kagome had Toimyas shirt off and was tending to her wounds. Sango was trying despratly to comfort her, unsucsessfully.
Kagome lifted the blanket up a bit, trying to decide wether to cover her chest up or not. In the end she decided it didn't matter. But Shippou silently wished she hadn't. Toimya had a hole in her stomach. It didn't go through to her back, but it wasn't good.
"Sango. I think I've got it" he kneeled next to her. "Does it hurt?"
"Not much" she had her eyes closed in obvious pain
"Liar" he brushed his hand across her face
"It was so awful" she whispered "It felt like the monster was eating my stomach"
"It was" he nuzzled her neck softly
"So...the baby..."
"Gone. I'm sorry" he put his arm around her neck and let her cry on his chest "Shhhhhh. Everything will be all right"
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry"
"You don't need to be sorry. You didn't do anything" he kissed her gently.
"What are you doing?" she laid back onto the bed.
"Trying to keep you're mind off the pain" he answered honestly. "Why? Am I bothering you"
She blushed. It made him happy to know that she was still self concious enough to do so. "No. But you forget we're not alone"
"I didn't forget"
She laughed, and winced in pain.
He stroked her hair.
"I love you" Toimya said softly
"I know" he kissed her again. This time a little more passionatly.
"Cut it out!" she said only half seriously
"What'll you do if I don't?" this was killing him. He wasn't in a flirtacous mood. He felt sad. He wanted to hold her, and talk to her. Thats exactly what he did. He took her in his arms.
"Shippou..." she was confused
"I don't want to let you go" he said into her hair.
"I don't want you to let me go"
"I'm glad" he stroked her hair "Mya. I thought I was going to loose you"
"Mya? What's that? A pet name?"
"Mmmhmmm"
"Would it have been a boy or a girl?"
"Girl"
"Then it's name is Kirara right?"
"Right"
"I'm so sad. I can't even tell you" she cried softly
"You would have been a wonderful mother"
"Thank you, but I kind of doubt that"
"Why do you think that?"
"I'm just...really young" she stared down
"Well I don't think that matters at all" he held her tighter
"Were you having the same doubts?"
"I was" he admitted "but I think that it was irrational now. I think that you're plenty responsible enough to have a child now. I...I think we've both grown up a lot because of this"
She whimpered softly. "I...I agree with you."
"Are you still in pain?" he whispered
"Yes" she said quietly "It's nearly unbearible"
"I killed it" he said "That imp that did this to you. I killed it"
"Why?" she broke herself away from him a bit to look into his eyes
"I'm not totally sure. I felt like I couldn't live with myself if the thing that hurt you was still out there. I just couldn't control myself"
"Thats sweet" she burried her face back into his chest "Destructive but sweet. You are a lot like the other men around here"
"Well I grew up around these guys. Of course I'm going to be like them" when it came down to it all the guys were the same. They would always die for the woman they love. With the exception of Ryota. He couldn't say if he would do that, because he'd never seen Ryota fight, and his wife was dead. He was greatful that Toimya was still alive.
He took a moment to look at Toimya. Her stomach had deflated, but the wound was still partily open. Because she was a demon she would heal faster. But the memory would stick with her forever. And he hadn't been wounded at all, but her felt like he had a scar on his heart, and he knew that she felt the same way.
She was in a great deal of pain. Inside and out. Her heart wighed down on her like a bag of bricks. At least she was in his arms. That was the only place in the world she felt safe now. She pressed herself on his torso, and let her tears come out freely.
Some people may have seen this as a weakness, but she had much to cry about. She was crying for her parents, she was crying for her baby, she was crying for her lover, and for the first time in her life she was crying for herself. She wasn't trying to look as if everything was fine, she was expressing her feelings as they truly were, not as eveyone expected her to be.
He didn't seem to mind. He was holding her letting her cry. A lot of other men wouldn't have stood for it. Some would even hit her to get her to shut up. But not him. She'd gotten lucky. She'd gotten one of the good ones.
"Shippou..." she burried her face into him.
"Don't hold it in" he knew that she was hurting, and he knew that she was trying not to apear weak "Someone once told me that strength is being able to feel, and at the same time to act like you feel nothing. But you're hurting, and if you don't let it out it'll just feel numb"
"Who told you that?" she said still trying to keep in her tears
"My mother" he said softly
She cried tears steadly like rain, and like rain they healed her, on the inside.
So the baby wasn't born. But it taught Shippou and Toimya something they never would have learned otherwise. It brought them closer together, and made them stronger. In due time Toimya was well again, and was able to have another baby if she wished. But even though she knew that she was ready she thought that she should wait. They also decided to wait for marrige. The time would come for such things, but now all they could do was wait for them. And the wait would make it so much sweeter. And thus, happily ever after is a bit to much but they lived in contentment, and that was all they wanted
