Chapter 3: Problem Solved

Inuyasha took his key and inserted it into the lock. “Hurry up man! I gotta go!!” “All right, alright, dammit!” the opened and Miroku flew in. Inuyasha turned to look at the sky before going in. hoping to see pat the grayness, and maybe see a star or two. He closed and locked the door behind him. Took off his shoes and walked into his room, removing his shirt in the process. He got to his room and threw it onto the bed, sat down at his computer and checked his e-mail. Still nothing. He sighed and began to send Kikyou another e-mail.

“Hey man, give it a rest. Your gonna scare her away.”

“Shit! Man stop sneaking up on me like that!”

“Sorry. But maybe you should just forget about her. I mean, c'mon, a girl here wants to ta-“

“Stop. You know I can't just forget about her…I still love her.”

“I know but it seems like she forgot about you.”

Miroku headed to the door. “I'm going to bed. Good luck.” And he left. Inuyasha could hear his door open and then close. He looked at the clock. “2:38 am”. He leaned his head back against the chair and stared at the ceiling. “Maybe I should go to bed as well…” he shut down his computer and let his jeans drop to the floor. Dressed only in his boxers he succumbed to his tried eyes and drifted off to sleep.

“Inuyasha! Yash! Hey man wake up!” Inuyasha felt someone pulling his foot and heard whispering in his head.

“Uhh…huh?”

`Hey wake up and stop worrying yourself sick over that damn girl! This is pissing me off! I called Kagome; she's expecting you at the sushi bar a few blocks from here in a hour. So get off your ass!”

Inuyasha heard Miroku's angry footsteps, and his bedroom door slam. Inuyasha hated being overpowered, even if the were a little right. “Well who gave you permission to set up a date? Not me!” “Your going! If not, you're getting out!” Inuyasha rolled out of his bed and went to into the bathroom. He knew when Miroku was serious, and this was defiantly one of those times. He showered and got dressed. Leaving his room he knocked on Miroku's door, “I'm leaving, hope you're happy.” He heard an almost mute “Have fun” and he walked out the door.

The gray concrete was wet along with the sky. He was running along the sidewalk to escape the rain when he burst into the sushi bar. Looking around, he spotted Kagome already sitting, waving and signaling him to come over. He nodded and smiled. Noticing all his anger wash away with just one look at her. He didn't know why he felt this why he felt the need to sit with her even though he was already engaged. Smiling slightly, he walked over and sat across from her. The waitress came shortly after he asked for his drink. “Ramune, please.” Kagome looked at him sweetly. She smiled and decided to make small talk.

“I'm happy you came, I almost thought you weren't gonna make it…” Kagome said nervously

“Oh I was coming, I'm here now aren't I?” Inuyasha smiled at her

“How long have you been here?”

“Two years, I've got about four more.”

“Really, what are you majoring in?”

“I think a pediatrician.”

“Wow…”

“What about you?”

“Hmmm, not sure yet, a pediatrician as well I guess…” she smiled shyly

“Really this going to be a good four years.” He smiled back

“I'm here for four years because I took care of the basics at a community college.”

“Really, now why didn't I think of that?”

Kagome giggled. Their conversation was interrupted by the returning waitress she placed she placed the ramune in front of Inuyasha and asked what they wanted. They ordered salmon sashimi, spicy tuna rolls, octopus, and shrimp tempura. They ordered some hot tea. After she left, they just stared at each other before Kagome decided to break the ice once more.

“Where are you from?”

“California, around Beverly Hills.”

“Oh! So you're rich! Fancy-smanshy rich boy huh!” she giggled

“No…not really, what about you.”

“Honolulu…”

“Must be nice to live in an eternal paradise.”

“What are you a poet? `Eternal paradise…'”

They both blushed and turned away.

“So, Kagome, how old are you, and what's your apartment number.” He smiled

“I'm 20, and my apartment number is 805, why?”

“We live in the same apartment complex, I'm in 796. Oh I'm 21 by the way.”

While they sat there and told each other about their lives, the surroundings and people began to vanish. It was as if they were completely alone.
The food arrived shortly and they both ate as if it were their last meal. Inuyasha paid and they left the bar together walking so close, the friction between their arms could start a fire.

“Hey lets go to Central Park.”

“Umm ok…” kagome responded

“Alright then, lets go!” Inuyasha bolted off in the direction of the station. Kagome grabbed his wrist gently

“Hey, lets just go to my place for a bit, it closer…and cheaper.”

Inuyasha and Kagome climbed up the metal stairs that led to Kagome's apartment and entered. She pointed to small couch in the living room and sat down. Inuyasha followed.

“I notice you look spaced out a lot. Is there something on your mind?” kagome asked

“Well kinda…” Inuyasha responded trying to avoid the touchy subject

“What is it?” kagome looked at him with worried eye, begging him to spill it. He couldn't resist

“My…fiancé…”

“O h. You left someone as well huh.”

“Huh? You?”

“Yeah, my boyfriend of five years, Kouga.”

“Oh. Well my girlfriend/ fiancé of five years, Kikyou.”

“Heh, one more thing we have in common.”

They stared at each other's eyes as there faces slowly came within a few centimeters from each other. Kagome blushed and turned away.

“Y-your engaged…”

“Yeah…it's not going so well…she hasn't called or responded to my emails in six months.” His voice reduced to a whisper by the end of the sentence. Kagome placed her hand on his shoulder.

“I'm sure she's ok, probably just busy…she'd be crazy to wanna give you up.” Kagome caught herself and slapped her hand over her mouth. Inuyasha looked at her and smiled. He brought her in for a hug, even though he was fighting the urge to do much more.

“Thanks, Kagome.”

“Your…anytime.” She never wanted him to let go.

Later that afternoon, Inuyasha was walking back to his apartment with a giant grin on his face. He had a new friend…even though he wanted it to be more than that but he just could betray Kikyou like that…even if she no longer spoke to him. When he reached his place he slid the key in the door and walked inside.

“Hello!! Hey Miroku!! You here?!”
There was no answer. “Hmm, guess not…” he walked back to his bedroom, but when he got there he realized he wasn't alone. He heard a woman screaming and moaning from Miroku's room. `Not again…' Inuyasha thought as he walked into his room. The girl was Christina. She was American. She and Miroku have been fuck buddies for almost a year now. No attachment, no commitment, just sex. She would come by at least once a week. And when she did, that door would be closed like that for hours. He looked at his watch. 7:23 pm. Inuyasha checked his e-mail, still nothing. He heard banging and more moaning. “I gotta get outta here.” He stood up, collected his cell phone, keys and wallet. Leaving a not on the kitchen counter saying he stopped by and went out again, he dialed Kagome's number and left the small apartment.

“Hello?” kagome answered

“Hey, it Inuyasha.”

“Oh hey what's up?”

“Uhh, well my place is uhh…inhabitable right now. How about you and me go to Harajuku.”

“Yea! That sounds great. I haven't had time to explore yet, so this should be fun, ill meet you outside.”

“Alright but bring money.”

“Ok”

The phone hung up Inuyasha sat on the stairs that led to her building. Waiting daydreaming.

“Wow, it's been awhile since I've had anything to look forward to…weird.”

“Yes, very weird!” kagome giggled as she smiled down at an embarrassed Inuyasha.

“How long have you been standing there?”

“Long enough! Hahahahaha! So lets get going! What's in Harajuku? I heard it's a big teen hang out and a fashion capital.”

“Yeah something like that.”

They walked and talked nonstop all the way to the train station. Inuyasha had never felt so connected to someone before…not even Kikyou. His phone rang mid-conversation. He took it out of his pocket and saw that it was Miroku. “Uhh, hold up a minute.” he told kagome as he walked 3 feet away from her.

“Hello? Man what are you doing!! I'm busy!” Inuyasha angrily whispered Ito the phone

“Yeah, well I just wanted to see how you were, I got your note. Sorry about that, me and Christina got…caught up.” Miroku chuckled

“Whatever man, is she gone yet?”

“Nope, were about to go on for round three. Right baby.” Inuyasha heard a woman's voice seductively say “yeah”

“Well, ill leave you to your fun then.”

“Hey wait, where are you, and who are you with?”

“Uhhh…. Kagome…bye!”

Inuyasha hung up the phone and returned it to his pocket while closing the gap between him and kagome.

“Hey…uhh…sorry about that.”

“Oh its fine lets go! I want you to show me Japan!” she said as she pointed in a random direction and began to pull Inuyasha and led him through the station.

“Uhh, I don't know about Japan…but I can defiantly do Tokyo” he smiled at her

“Haha, funny. Now lets go, the night is still young and so are we!”

“That is so cliché “

“I know. Hahaha”
