InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Touzoku no Kon ❯ Unexpected Visit Pt.2 ( Chapter 2 )
A/N: Huzzah! Another chapter! Not much to say yet. Would anyone like to R&R? Just tell me what you think. And I'm going by the thief's POV for now or at least until "Its" revealed. Don't blame me for the crappiness, I don't usually write in 1st person.

(Thief of Souls)
(Chapter 1: Unexpected Visit Pt. 2)
(Thief's POV if you didn't read the author's note)
I slunk out of the child's room, feeling particularly accomplished with myself. I had another pure soul…
I walked down the opulently decorated hallway. Candles lined them, letting off a warm glow, that could prove to be a hindrance. At first, my flat-footed boots clicked loudly on the marble floor (I cringed) but I soon came to some oriental-styled carpeting, lessening my noisy footsteps. Gods, I'm a demon and unable to conceal my presence…Well, I could if I wanted to but it's always amusing to get caught and snicker about the way the idiot guards stumble after you.
My keen ears picked up what sounded like the gentle treading of a demon and faint humming. `Chikushoume!' I growled inwardly. `Why here of all places?' Of course I already knew the answer but I was impatient; I had gotten what I wanted. Now it was all a matter of grabbing some pricey item I could pawn off for some yen, killing the bastard in charge of this place, and getting out.
Simple enough. I should've known there would be some sort of patrol in the inner part of the Shouen.
I could sense the sentry drawing nearer, only now there were two, both coming from separate hallways. I glanced at my surroundings; there wasn't much shadow or cover. I came to the conclusion that I'd need to use some sort of incantation.
"Mizu no Keshitomeru!" I hissed as quietly as possible.
The enchanted gem I wore around my neck came to life and with a quick spurt of light, extinguished the candles lining the hallways. I crouched down a small way from the corners where the four corridors met.
"Maeko-san," I heard a worn-out feminine voice greet. A man with black hair held in a low pony-tail and elaborate-looking armor came into view, obviously the one the female had called Maeko. He held a halberd as well but the blades on this one looked as though they could separate. By his scent I could tell he was a demon and by the looks of his armor and weapon, I could tell he was most likely the guardian of the Lord here.
"Akina," Maeko said back to the other demoness (or hanyou as her scent told me) who had appeared in front of him. This one had short lavender-coloured hair and bright blue eyes. She held a kama with a chain attached to it. The blade gleamed despite the darkness I had pitched the halls into.
"Where are you coming from?" She asked, shaking some hair from her tired eyes. "Hakuchi-sama's doorway."
"Lucky you." She muttered, voice dripping with sarcasm. He merely nodded, yawned and turned to walk towards the western wing of the manor. The hanyou shrugged and began making her way down the hallway that led to the east wing.
`Oh…shit.' I cursed mentally. She was coming right for me. I got as close to the wall as possible, hoping she didn't have good eyesight in the dark.
The Gods must have been on my side today because the half-demon casually walked by without as much as a second glance. I smirked and rose from my spot on the floor. I made for the corridor that the man had come from.
I ran down this one, I didn't have time for any more idiotic obstructions like the last. As I got further down the large hall, I spotted three doorways; two on either side of the hallway and one large double-door in the middle. I'd save that one for last.
At first I hesitated to open the one on the left side but curiosity got the better of me. I slid it open as quietly as possible and peered inside. A room full of all sorts of ancient scrolls, gold, and assortments of jewels. This had to be the study. The Gods were really on my side today.
I crept inside and immediately began to inspect the scrolls. If I could just find a particular one…
I turned away from the scrolls and grabbed a small sack made of cow-hide I'd been carrying around for an occasion such as this. I undid the tie and began stuffing in the biggest and most beautiful gemstones. I also snatched some of the more ancient and unreadable texts. I could decipher them afterward… Then three small violet shards caught my eye. I turned back and picked them up. `These must be Shikon no Kakera.' I slipped them into the pouch as well. It couldn't hurt, ne?
I was done here. I left the room as silently as I'd come. Back in the hallway, I stared up at the rafters before jumping up and grabbing hold of one then swinging myself up so that I was standing on it.
Once on it I saw a small light, indicating that was most definitely a way into Hakuchi's room. That asshole deserved death. He was a demon ruler over the ningen in these lands. Supposedly he promised he would protect them all and that seemed to earn the throne. How disgraceful he was, protecting humans…
Who could protect them from me?
I crouched and crawled through the small opening. The room was decorated in rich tapestries depicting battles unknown to me. In the center of the room lay Hakuchi, surrounded by young maidens. They lay on an immense futon covered in silks, furs, and pillows. All were asleep.
I grinned so sinisterly.
To my dismay, I saw that the floor was pure, white marble. That would make quite a noise if I decided to drop down. I would have to risk dropping down on the futon. I landed very near to the head of one of the girls. I knelt down close to Hakuchi. His hair, gold as his daughter's, shielded his face like a curtain. I placed my hand over his chest and with my other, I dangled the jewel above. It began to glow its vivid blue and pure white and in a shock of power, Hakuchi's soul burst forth from his body and shot into the gem.
Or at least it was supposed to.
A fraction of it remained within. His demonic spirit was tainted and dark, my jewel refused to take that part. `Fine,' my mind whispered. `I'll do this my way…'
(Elsewhere in the Tono)
Maeko was uneasy. Things just didn't feel right, like there was an unknown presence stalking the castle grounds.
`But how am I to tell if this festival continues on…?'
Akina and the others had seemed alright but then again, most of them were half-demons. Their senses were inferior. But still, something was amiss and he could not put his finger on it…Maeko sighed heavily before stopping to lean against a wall. While submerged in thought, a familiar scent engulfed him.
`Hakuchi-sama's blood?!' His mind screamed.
Maeko shot up and ran to his master's quarters hoping it wasn't too late…
(Thief's POV, once more)
I was on my back to the east wing where I could escape out the same way I'd come in; the girl's bedroom, when I heard a loud echoing scream and several angry shouts.
Oh fuck.
It appears that they most likely found out I'd brutally murdered their Lord…So I did the most logical thing I could think of: run like a bat out of hell!
I soon came to the hallways in which I'd plunged into darkness, I continued running straight, and rounded a corner before seeing the same room of which I'd meant to enter. Hakuchi's bastards couldn't catch me now, not if the world depended on it!
"ASSASSIN!"
THERE'S THE KILLER!"
"THIEF!"
"MUDERER! YOU'LL PAY SHIKAKU!"
Never-fucking-mind. I completely and utterly retract my last statement. Without looking back I slammed into the girl's room and flew out the still open window. My feet hit the ground hard before I dove off the hillside and progressed to slide down the cliff. They would have to stop now, ne?
"THERE IT GOES!!!!"
Nope. I heard several screams and cries full of bloodlust as they continued off the cliff side after me. What I would give to be able to fly right now…
Shit, they weren't even wasting time with arrows (not that they had a chance of piercing me), they just flew after me, weapons raised. Kami-sama, I swore some of them were even foaming at the mouth. Talk about fanatical.
I heard a chain rattle and then a blade whistle through the air. With a small spurt of speed I leaped ahead and barely dodged a deadly kama, which would have delivered a fatal blow.
I barely had time to turn around and glimpse one of my attackers before it came flying through the air again and grazed my shoulder, which happened to be armored. A small slit appeared in my armor.
It was the amethyst-haired one. I looked back again and saw her swinging the chained kama above her head. The hanyou's eyes were a violent red and I was sure she was close to losing her sanity. I ducked as a demon came soaring over me, halberd poised to strike. With a hand I'm sure he couldn't see, I drew some of my shurikens and flung them. They struck the arm that wielded his weapon.
He withdrew with a cry of alarm and pain.
"First you murder my Lord and now you aim to slay my brethren!?" I could hear the wild voice of Akina. "You die by my hands BITCH!" She screeched murderously, eyes now burning a fearsome red.
"No, I'm afraid it will be the other way around." I said in my amazingly cool and merciless voice. I'd been through this so many times before.
I pulled my sword from its sheath and with a movement so swift, sliced her arm, though she didn't stop. Her youkai blood had taken over fully.
"You don't deserve death but I see now that you will be stopped by nothing else!" My blade met her middle and I slashed so fiercely that her body was drawn in half. Blood spattered her companions that were pursuing angrily behind. The dark liquid tainted the brown earth beneath making it look like we had already battled for ages.
"AKINA-CHAN!"
I didn't care anymore though I knew that voice. I continued to run and would soon leave them totally. The screams and roars died down but one warrior continued to hunt me and I knew then this would be a battle to the death.
I whipped around to face Maeko, as I suspected. True to my belief, there he was, panting and cursing in a language I couldn't understand.
"You killed her…you…asshole." He seethed between breaths. I stared on, expressionless, real emotions hidden behind my façade. "Don't make me kill you, I have no desire."
"You destroyed everything and yet, you have no desire to battle me?!" I nodded. "It is my way. I seek something…you were all in my way. Besides, your godlike Hakuchi was nothing," I spit out bitterly. "He protected humans, he brings disgrace to our kind. You are disgraceful because you served him."
Clearly, he was too full of hatred and loathing for words. With an inhuman howl, he lunged at me. "I won't kill you." I whispered. I held up the soul-stealing jewel that so many had sought before me. `Be free from your pain.'
The gem exploded in bursts of gentle light in rhythm with Maeko's soul. I could see how clouded his eyes looked now. Ever so slowly his body stopped and fell.
It was as simple as that. When I reached my next destination I would return his soul to his body. My next destination…shimatta! I needed to the Western Lands before dawn. I had a date with someone…
A/N: Never again. Never doing POVs again. I made the thief sound waaaay outta character but hell, next chapter is gonna kick some serious ass, I hope…
