Chapter 11: Little Town, Big Drama's
Anubis_Himura

~*~ Yashie-Samas POV still ~*~

Kagome came over at about eight this morning. It's Sunday. She knew I had to be to work at nine thirty and she wanted to make sure I ate a proper breakfast. Or, at least, that was her reasoning. My dad wasn't home. Apparently him and Ms. H had been going out together a lot. This was actually upsetting for me. Not to say I wasn't glad that my dad was out of my hair a little, but I didn't want him to take out his abuse on Ms. H. Not to mention, that is why my mother left.

"Yash?" Kagome snapped her fingers in front of my face.

"Sorry." I muttered. "What were you saying?" I asked, focusing my attention on her.

"Geez. It's not that I was saying anything important, you've just been acting really weird lately."

"Lately? I wasn't even in school all week." I said back.

"That's my point. Why would you miss three days of classes? That is going to take so much make up work. Now, you're all spacey and it's kind of freaking me out." she stood up and began clearing the dishes from breakfast.

"I'm sorry that I didn't feel capable and up to going to school. Next time I'll check with you before I go and get be- sick." I shook my head, grabbing my coat. Kagome had started to do the dishes. "You can leave those. I have to go to work." I said in a semi-quiet tone.

"Fine." she turned off the water and walked out the door. I locked said door and followed her.

"Kagome! Don't be mad at me!" I hollered to her. "Kags!" she went into her house and closed the door.

I sighed and got into my car. I'd have to talk to her about this later.

~*~ Kaggie-Chan POV again! ~*~

I closed my bedroom door and sat on my bed. I wanted to call my dad, but I didn't think that would be smart. He was probably going to call soon anyway, he hadn't called since homecoming. I wondered what my life would have been like if we had stayed with him. Living in Georgia, at the shrine. Just like normal people. I would have grown up being a Wildcat all my life. I wouldn't have to make new friends all the time, or worry about if I could even have a relationship because who knew when I would leave again. I closed my eyes as I laid back on my bed. Then I never would have met Yash, Sango, Miroku, or Kik and Kouga. I never would have known Jordan and Naraku and every one else I had met over the years. But, I would have had friends that I grew up with, and that knew me inside and out. I would have been more trusting and open. Maybe it was better this way. Maybe it wasn't.

"Kagome?" my mother opened the door to my room. "Kagome, it's nearly three in the afternoon, what are you still doing in bed?" she asked.

I opened my eyes and blinked a few times, adjusting to the sudden light. I looked at my clock. Two fifty seven clicked over to two fifty eight as I realized she was right. "Mom, do you ever wonder, if there's an alternate universe somewhere? Where everything you've ever done is opposite?" I looked over at her, "Like, there's a whole other world where you, me, dad and Souta live together in Georgia; dad still working on his 'big cases', you'd still be a substitute, but mainly be working at the Shrine with Gramps. Souta and I would have gone to the same schools and we'd be just like a normal family. Do you think there's a world out there like that?"

My mother stared at me for a moment as though I had lost my mind entirely. She sat down on my bed and looked deep into my eyes. I could tell she was trying to find my deeper meaning. I didn't have one for her to find though, I really just wanted to know if somewhere I was complete. We were complete.

"Kagome," she began, finally looking away from me. "Did you have a fight with Inuyasha?"

I scoffed at her question. How could she have possibly thought that was the whole reason I began thinking like this? "Yeah." I said in a monotone. "Then I started missing Souta and dad." I explained.

"I miss them too Kagome. But sometimes, life completes you in different ways. You don't have to have the perfect family and be, so called, 'normal'. Everyone you've ever met has a reason in your life Kagome. I suggest you cherish them." she stood and walked toward the door. "Would you like something to eat?"

"No thanks." I muttered, looking out the window. "I'm not hungry."

~*~

"Kags," I heard another tap on my window. "Kags, you can't be mad at me forever."

I walked over to my window and opened it. "I'm not mad at you Yash." I said.

"What?" he said. I turned down my radio and went back to the window.

"I'm not mad at you Yash. I just . . . I get upset sometimes and" I sighed and shook my head. "I don't know. I'm sorry."

"Can I tell you something?" Inuyasha backed away from the window. "Follow me."

"Hold up." I followed him back to his house and up to his room. Apparently his dad was still at work.

He gestured for me to go further into his room, and he closed the door behind me, I think locking it. His room was finally fixed, which was nice. The tarp was kind of creepy. I sat on his bed, not knowing what else to do. It was fairly dim in his room, so he turned on the light. I waited for him to say something, anything. He sighed slightly and sat down next to me, running his fingers through his hair. I didn't want to break the silence, I had a feeling whatever he was going to say was extremely important.

"Kagome -" he began. I waited. He knew I was listening. "Kags -" he began again before stopping and shaking his head. "Never mind."

"You dragged me up here to say 'never mind'? Come on Yash. What's going on?" I asked, trying to be as caring as I could.

"Nothing." he shook his head again and smiled at me. His smile was vacant, and not like him. "I just wanted to make sure you weren't pissed off at me. I promise. I'll try to be more normal." he laughed lightly.

"Yash-" I began, knowing there was more to this visit. "Really. What's going on?"

"I think Kikyou's snubbing you because she likes me. I think you're right. I'm sorry you have to go through that." he rambled this off quickly and I couldn't help but think that wasn't really what he wanted to tell me.

"It's okay Yash. She'll get over it. You said that yourself." I let my suspicions drop.

"Yeah." he stood up and grabbed my hand. "Want to go see a movie?" he asked.

"Sure." I stood up with him.

"Cool. I'll just write my dad a note and we can go." he opened the door and we went downstairs.

~*~

The movie was pretty good. Not the best in the world, but it wasn't like I wanted to walk out. Inuyasha was driving precariously fast on our way back. We had stopped for dinner on the way to the movie and then we went to the theater in Saco. Now Inuyasha seemed to be nervous that we weren't going to get home fast enough.

"Do you have curfew?" I asked, trying to figure out why he was rushing at eight thirty at night.

"I just don't want my dad to worry." he clarified.

"Oh. That's nice of you. I didn't even leave my mom a note. Now I feel kind of bad." I shrugged. My mom would realize that Inuyasha's car wasn't there and that neither was I and she'd figure it out.

"Wanna use my cell and call him?" I suggested, looking through my handbag for my cell phone.

"No. It's okay." we turned the corner and I saw our driveway.

Inuyasha pulled into the driveway and turned the car off, almost simultaneously. He got out of the car, as I did, and locked it. I walked over toward my house. "Night Kags. I'll see ya tomorrow." he darted off toward his house.

"Night." I called back. I frowned as I walked into my house. "Hey mom." I said as I walked in. I saw her sitting on the couch reading a book.

"'Hey mom'?" she questioned. "No note. No phone call. You could have died!" she closed her book with a loud snap.

"Sorry. I thought you would have figured it out." I said.

"Lucky for you Inuyasha knows how to be respectful. When I called Tai in a panic he told me that Inuyasha left a note saying that you two went to the movies." she stood up now. I had rarely seen her look so angry.

"I already said sorry. What else can I do? What's done is done."

"Go to your room. Finish your homework and go to bed. You are grounded for a week. That includes going to Inuyasha's house."

"I can't even go to his house?" I asked in disbelief. "He lives ten steps away." I complained.

"You will not talk to me in that tone." I continued to look confused.

"Whatever." I began walking to my room.

"Do not speak to me like that Kagome! I've been talking with Tai a lot and I realized you are the most disrespectful child." that caused me to turn around and look forcibly angry.

"Wait! So your whole rant tonight, has been based on what somebody else said? Nice. Mom, I didn't leave a note. I apologized. You grounded me. Life's dandy."

"Go to your room." she said, her hands on her hips.

"Fine." I turned and went into my room as instructed. I sat on my bed, wondering why her attitude had completely changed.

It dawned on me that she had told me why her parenting style was suddenly different. Tai. Tai had suggested that I was disrespectful. I didn't want to bring Inuyasha into it. It wasn't worth it, for us to be fighting over my mom and his dad. So I let it drop. Besides, being grounded wasn't a terrible loss.

~*~ Inu-Kun’s POV ~*~*~

I ran into the house and was greeted with an icy glare. I involuntarily shuddered and gulped out of fear.

"Hello Sir." I managed to say.

"Inuyasha." he held the note I had written in front of him. "What is this?" He questioned.

"A note Sir. I believe informing you that I was taking Kagome to the movies."

"Do you know, Inuyasha, what a note is for?" I thought for a second. The wrong answer could mean another week out of school. I can only call and pretend to be my dad so many times before the secretary gets suspicious.

"Informing people of another persons whereabouts?" I asked, not sure what he wanted me to say.

"And?" he pressed.

"The approximate time of arrival back to where they belong?"

"So, in this scenario?"

"I wrote a note, informing you of the date I had with Kagome tonight."

"What did you neglect?" he tossed the note at me and I read it over.

"When I would be home." I answered.

"Exactly! I don't really give a shit when the fuck you get home! But when I get a call from a concerned parent wondering where her daughter is, I get angry."

"Sir, I'm sorry Ms. Higarashi called you, but please don't take it out on me."

"Shall I go and teach Kagome a lesson than?"

I visibly stiffened at his harsh choice. "No. I accept the blame."

"Good."

~*~*~ Ka-Go-Me's POV~*~*~

Snow started falling outside, I watched the flakes dance gracefully down to earth. The snow wasn't sticking to the ground, it wasn't quite cold enough yet, but it was the most beautiful sight.

Inuyasha and I sat on his porch; we had been sitting there for hours, just watching the snow. Neither of us spoke; we didn't have anything to say. It was almost Thanksgiving break. Two more days. That meant that Inuyasha's birthday was just under a month away. I had to get him something. Since homecoming I had managed to land a job at a local restaurant. It didn't pay terrifically, but it was money.

"Yash?" I asked, never looking away from the tumbling snow.

"Mm?" he questioned.

"What do you want for your birthday?"

"I don't know." he thought for a second. "Nothing I guess." I looked over in time to see him shrug. "I never really think of my birthday as a big deal."

"Oh." I let the subject drop.

"I can't believe Kikyou and Kouga still aren't talking to us." I said.

"Yeah. It's really weird." he mentioned nonchalantly.

"Isn't Monday your day to sit with her?" I asked.

"What day is it? Blue?"

"Yeah. You have Psych I think."

"Oh. Yeah it is. Damn. I don't really like sitting with them. I mean, they're my friends and all but I feel bad leaving you Song and Miroku."

"It's cool Yash, don't worry about it."

"Guess I can't."

I looked at my watch. It was nine thirty. "I should go and get some sleep." I said, standing up.

Inuyasha stood up too. "Bye Kags." he gave me a hug. "I'll see you in the morning."

"'Kay." I pulled away and smiled. "Bye."

"Bye." he repeated.

~*~

"Song! I need massive help! I have no idea how to do this and I have a test last block!" I held up the note sheet I had prepared to study with.

"What's the test on?" she asked, looking over the list. "What the hell does that mean? Sorry Kag's I took French." she shrugged at me and then spotted Miroku. "I would ask Miroku, he's in Spanish."

"Miroku!" We got closer to him and I showed him the sheet. "Do you have any idea how to do this?"

He looked at it for a second. "Sorry Kag's, I'm only in Spanish two."

"Damn!" I sighed, shoving the paper into my bag. "Whatever, I'll just wing it." Sango laughed with me as we went to our usual table for lunch.

A few minutes through the lunch and Sango looked around, "Where's Yash?" she asked.

I nodded my head toward the other cafeteria. "With Kik and Koug." I explained.

"Oh yeah." she had a look of distaste.

"That reminds me though," I said, swallowing the bite of my orange. "I want to plan a surprise party, or something for his birthday."

"I wouldn't advise that Kags." Miroku said.

"Why?"

"He's sensitive around that time of year. He doesn't really like anyone to make a big deal of his birthday." he explained.

"Why though?"

"That's usually the time he goes to his moms grave." Miroku said in a hushed tone.

"Oh." I looked down for a second. "Did she, you know, around that time?"

"No. She was kind enough to wait until January. But, it's still a time for him where he thinks about it."

"Don't you think, than, that maybe he would want some cheering up so that he has no reason to think about it?" I asked.

"I don't think so Kags. This is one thing, maybe we should just stay out of and drop the subject." Sango said. Her voice was nice, even if her words were kind of upsetting. Who doesn't throw their friend a party? Or at least do something for them?

"'Kay."

~*~*~

"Come on Yash! It's Vaca. You and I are going to do something fun!" I smiled as I threw my bag on the couch.

"I don't know. My dad will be home soon and I should probably be here when he gets home." Inuyasha said uneasily.

I pouted at him. "Please? We can do anything you want. I just want to go somewhere."

I saw him sigh as a small smile enhanced his features. "Alright. What do you want to do?" he asked, taking my hand in his.

"I don't care." I smiled. "Whatever you want."

"Doesn't matter Kags." he shrugged. "How about, mall?" he suggested. "We can get something to eat at the court, listen to music?"

"Sure!" I smiled. "I'm just going to leave a note." I said, rushing over to the white board on the refrigerator.

"I am too. I'll meet you at my car in like five minutes."

"Okay."

- Mom, went with Yash to Mall. Be back later. *it's 3 now* I've got my cell this time. Lots of love - Kags -

~*~ Yashie's POV ~*~*~*

-Sir, I've gone to the mall with Kagome. We'll be back later. (Hopefully not much later than nine). It is 3:07 now. Kagome has her cell phone I believe. I will call if we are going to be later than nine. Thank you Sir - Inuyasha -

I grabbed my wallet out of my room and went out to my car. Kagome was already there. I smiled as I got into the car. "I just have to stop by the bank." I said.

"Sure."

We drove to the bank, and then we drove up to the mall. Not much happened on the way there. We talked about random things, and we played the license plate game. At the mall we wandered around, we ate dinner about six. Then we went to the music store.

"Oh, I love this CD." I smiled. "I lost mine a couple years ago. Completely disappeared. I should buy it."

"Can I see?" she asked.

"Sure." I handed her the CD.

"Oh. Cool." She smiled and walked off with it.

"Kags?" I asked.

"Yeah?" she questioned back.

"Is there a reason you walked off with it?"

"Yep." she went up to the counter and bought the CD. She came over to me with the bag and handed it to me. "Happy Birthday." she smiled.

I laughed, shaking my head. "Thanks Kagome."

"No probs Yash!"

After we left the mall we went riding around. We took the back way home and basically enjoyed each others company and the twilight. I rushed home at eight forty five, praying we'd make it before nine. I pulled into the driveway and kissed Kagome good night, before making a mad dash for the house.

My dad was drunk. Not surprising, but not good. "Inuyasha!"

~*~*~ Kagome's Point of View ~*~*~*~

I woke up around eleven the next day. I wasn't sure how I could have slept so long. My mother was gone. I yawned as I ate some cheerios. I decided to bug Yash and call him.

I let it ring until the answering machine picked up. "Hey Yash, it's Kags. Just wanted to see what you were up to. Give me a call." I hung up the phone and went to sketch.

I didn't get a call back. It was now almost two. I was going to call him again, but decided to go to his house instead. I got dressed in my usual clothes before running over to his house. It was cold out and I hadn't grabbed my coat. His car was in the yard, so if he wasn't home he had gone off with someone. Tai wasn't home either.

I knocked on the door. No answer. "Yash?" I tried, knocking a little louder.

Still no answer. I pulled out my cell phone. "Hey Miroku. Have you heard from Yash today? Thanks." I hung up. Him and Sango were together, neither having heard from Yash. I knocked once more. "Yash?"

I shook my head and turned to leave. I heard a faint noise, almost like scratching on the floorboards. I turned back. "Yash?" I opened the door.

The house was dark and I didn't see anyone downstairs. "Yash? I opened the door, I'm coming in." I announced.

I walked through the house, slowly, as though investigating. I heard the noise again. It was coming from Inuyasha's room. I walked up the stairs and knocked on his door. "Yash? It's me. Are you decent?" I asked, ready to open the door.

I heard the shuffling followed by a loud crash which startled me. "Yash?!" I asked in a panic as I threw the door open.

"Yash!" I screamed. His lamp was what had startled me. It lay on the floor now, in many pieces. Inuyasha was on the floor, apparently not conscious (or just barely). I ran over to him, holding his head in my hands. "Yash, what happened? What's the matter?" I was panicking, I didn't know what to do.

His face was horribly beaten, and it didn't appear his body was in any better shape. I didn't dare to move him too much, but I wanted him to look at me, to tell me he was alright. "Yash, open your eyes Yash. I'm here. I'm going to get you help." I had started to cry without realizing it. I took out my cell phone and dialed nine one, one. I told them the address and they sent an ambulance.

"Yash, an ambulance is on the way. You're going to be okay. I promise." I didn't know if he could hear me, or if he cared.

I didn't know what had happened, but I would find out.
