[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Kagome starred at one of the kimonos carefully as if looking for a reason she should not buy the silky, plain, light blue kimono. Her brown eyes did not miss a stitch and the work put into the lovely gown in front of her. "I’ll take it." Kagome said holding out the right amount of money to the seamstress. After that Kagome did not find any else in the busy market place that interested her all that much. She then glanced at the sun and saw it lowering into the arms of the earth. "Time to go home." She mumbled under her breath and started down the path she would take at least once a week.
She did not pay much attention to the path since she new it fairly well and already knew the sights lay in the fields that surrounded the patch of land her two story home sat upon, with its white siding and gray trim; she knew it all to well. She let a slow sigh escape her dim pink lips, knowing all to well when she got home she must dress for the over rated masked ball this night.
Kagome soon stood in front of opened gates once again, and just as was about thirty feet into the gravel road she heard that laugh. A laugh she had not heard for years and she knew it was directed at her. Kagome turned quickly ending up face to face with a smiling Narin. "Well look what the cat dragged back in." He said with mischief in his gleaming green eyes. He stood at least a head taller then and his short brown hair ruffled from the wind. "Still sneaking out I see, Kagome.
She couldn’t help but smile and add a reply. "Seems the cat dragged you back here also." He stifled another laugh before walking over to her and leaned his elbow on her shoulder. "You still make a nice arm rest." Narin said gazing down though her hooded face. She let out a sigh and spoke. "you are still as insulting as ever. I must go before someone catches me, besides you and who could get me in trouble." She starred right back at him. "Alright Kagome, if you must go."
He said this as he put his hand to his forehead as if he were to cry , but he couldn’t help but to grin and she did the same. "I shall see you tomorrow Mr. Humorous." "Why not tonight?" He looked at her with curiosity. "Party." She said exhaustedly.
"When do you go to parties?" "Not willingly." Kagome said under her breath but she knew he heard her. Narin laughed a bit then gave her a pat on the back. "I would love to see you in that dress." His smile big and bold upon his lips. Then it hit her like lightning. "You could see me in that dress, you could accompany me since no one else is available." He starred at her for a minute knowing he was thinking about it. "Hmm, I say it would be worth it. What time?"
Kagome threw him a dazzling smile and spoke. "We leave at 7:30 it starts at eight ends at one but you can leave after eleven anytime." "Aright, I’ll have the carriage here 7:30, meet me." He said and then walking a few then turned. "Can’t wait to see that dress." Then his back towards her he walked away whistling. Her cheeks burned a light red from his comment. Kagome watched him till he turned off towards the soldiers dorms.
Kagome then herself turned and ran into the house to get prepared for a long night....

Kagome walked slowly out of the warmth of her home into the chilly night air. She let a sigh escape her lips and it instantly turned to a thick fog. Kagome looked to sky and as she did she felt her cold hanging sliver earrings brush on each side of her neck bringing a chill to her spine but she still starred up into the memorizing stars and the crescent moon that gave little light.
Her random thoughts were interrupted by someone clearing their throat. Kagome instantly looked for the source and off to her left stood Narin starring right back at her. He wore a stylish black kimono with white trim, it suited him well. ‘he should have been ranked hire he would fit right in.’ Narin looked over her she was far from the girl wearing guys cloths a few years back but she probably still did, it would not surprise him but still she was beautiful tonight all she had to do is clean up a bit.
It was her turn to clear her throat he was making her nerves under his piercing gaze. He shook his head and put on a smile then walked over to her and spoke. "What happen to you??" He asked teasingly. Kagome gave him the don’t start with me look and turned towards the carriage. Narin couldn’t help but chuckle she never be a true lady she was to wild, under all that fancy stuff laid a wild child eager to get into a little trouble like him. He helped her into the carriage and then pulled himself in the darkened shape dome. As soon as they were on the move he began to speak. "Kagome no matter how many layers of fancy stuff you where you can’t hide that wild streak in you along with that innocent streak." "I wouldn’t have even put this dress on if I did not have to, but since no one in my family has been to court so long I have to." Kagome simply stated. she brought her gaze to the frosted window and looked over the darkened land.
"So how is your bother doing." He asked reviving the conversation. Kagome glanced at him and replied . "Trying to take on the world as usual....ever since our father died." She said the last part in a whisper. Narin narrowed his green eyes. "He still blames himself?" Kagome just nodded once and looking his way. The topics between jumped from one to another and they soon felt the carriage lurch at the mighty gates of the Inu fortress. Narin got out first and help Kagome out and then slipped away for a few seconds to talk to the driver then he was by her side once more. "Shall we go." He held out his elbow to her and gave her a boyish which brought her just for a split second back into her childhood but quickly brushed off the memory.
Kagome stuck her hand though his elbow and they started off on the path in front of them along with several others who were close or behind them human and demon alike they began to enter the great palace.
They both been here a couple times before this. Narin , about his training and Kagome a couple of other parties a few years before her father died. "It was happier times..." She said under her breath as a chill once more chased down her spine followed by a couple memories. Kagome looked up at Narin to see if he heard and it did not look so but with him you never know...
Once at the main entry everyone was required to sign. While waiting in the lineup Narin and Kagome placed there masks on and looked over each other and both nodded in improvement at the same time, making them laugh a bit. They soon signed in and hustled in the enormous great hall which was decorated with tapestries with stories to tell and curtains in between each as in a pattern. It still took Kagome’s breath away even though she has scene it twice before. Narin pulled her along as it did not interest him a bit. There was vary few guest in the room yet twenty or thirty tops, around the large room where French doors all leading to a balcony.
Narin still leading her some where but she did not pay attention to where he was hauling her it was the scenes she saw when he dragged her by a painting most dark and mysterious but some with color and style. When Narin finally stopped he stood in front of a guy in a brown kimono with a white sketch of a dragon sewn into the fabric. Narin then introduce him to her. "Kagome this my training buddy I met in camp, Koga." Koga looked her over and muttered not bad but not my type. Then he nudged Narin in the ribs playfully and said. "Finally got a girl hey Narin."
Kagome blushed but knew they didn’t see it under the mask. Narin gave him a look that said don’t talk low about Kagome or I’ll punch you in the kisser. Kagome did the big sweat drop and then decided to the leave the two demons to work it out. Then she heard it the giggle she knew all to well . "Kikyo..." She muttered distastefully. Kagome turned and knew it was her even though she wore a mask along with her beloved Inuyasha who had been courting Kikyo for almost a year. "Kikyo got the catch of her life a heir to a fortune why does that not surprise me. The all mighty son of the dog demon."
She under her breath and then turned away from the scene which ruined her appetite which was of them cuddling. Kagome took a deep breath and then at that moment the booming voice was heard over all. Knowing already it was the mighty dog demon she turned toward the source. "My guest welcome to my palace, you are welcome to eat and drink to you desire. The dances shall begin in ten minutes." After that he disappeared back up the stairs he came. Kagome looked over the white marble stair cases connected like a circle. ’Connected at the to and separate at the bottom sounds easy enough.’ Kagome then thought of the great lord of the land she was fairly attracted to him with is long white hair and facial markings.
She also knew he had two sons, Sesshomaru full demon and Inuyasha half demon. To her the best of the two was Inuyasha for he was more out going unlike Sesshomaru who acted or was so cold hearted. She shivered at the thought of him. ’Cold as ice.’ Kagome thought flatly and then she wonder where was the ice prince. Then she remembered ’masked ball’ she groaned then walked toward where Narin and his friend Koga talked. Then she heard Koga’s big mouth say I got to go find my girl see you later Narin. He winked at Kagome then walked off. "Kagome, the dances start soon be my partner for the first." Kagome nodded with agreement and stood beside him as the floor was cleared and the slow music began. The lady and lord of the palace started the dance and several couples joined in that Kagome saw as most likely the top generals and the judges at the courts with there partners.
Narin slowly took Kagome out onto the floor put one hand on her waist and the other holding her hand that was not on his shoulder. They began to gently sway to the soft music and they grew closer to each other after the first song ended and another slow one started. Kagome rested her head on his chest and he inhaled her immiscible scent. He began to whisper into her ear. "Remember when we did this once before Kagome." He went on. "But not quite same atmosphere though." He chuckled at the memory. "It was your eighth birthday, and your parents didn’t make it home in time so me and a few other kids from the village set a small surprise for you." Kagome smiled at the memory. "I remember." she said in a whisper. He was doing all the leading Kagome was in a daze state but spoke once more. "I also remember the day you left for training." She sighed not wanting to remember and she just realized how much she missed him. "Gosh I wouldn’t stop crying." He heard it in her voice as he remembered as it was yesterday. "You kept telling me I will be back I promise, I’ll come back for you." He sighed this time and held her closer as if he was leaving her again. "I still have the necklace you gave me the day you left." Kagome lifted her head and took her hand from her shoulder reached down and revealed the small pendant along with the locket around her neck.
Kagome then replaced it and leaned back on his chest. He held her close as he could with out him making her stumble in her steps. "I can’t believe you kept it Kagome after all these years."
Narin whispered because he was in a slight shock. "You kept your word you came back."
"Yes...I came back." Narin ran his clawed hand down her back right as the song ended, and then the mighty dog demons voice came again. "Shall we liven this dance up a bit? Come on all dancers men on this side ladies on this side." Narin and Kagome looked into each others eyes a long moment before another couple split them up and put them in separate lines, then the up beat music began.
Each gentleman took the ladies hand in front of them and did a thirty second dance with one another then they switch. Kagome was looking eagerly around for Narin but did not see him anywhere out of all the couple but she stayed well in rhythm with the dance as her eyes searched. About her third partner when they came up close to switch hands he spoke. "Hello Kagome." His voice iced her blood and she instantly knew who the masked devil was. "Naraku." She said flatly in a whisper. "You did recognize me." He grinned evilly under his mask. "I do hope you are still single or have you..." He trailed off acting as if he was worried but he knew she was not with anyone. "I have not she said turning away so not wanting to look at him. "unfortunately...." She muttered but he heard her insult.
He leaned and whispered into her ear right before they switched partners. It left her red in the face of what he said to her and she repeated it in her head. ‘You still smell good enough to eat and if we were not in front of all these people i would take you were you stand...I shall see you soon.’ Kagome knew he was smiling as he said it to her, it infuriated her but she was going to finish this song and go out onto the balcony for fresh air. ‘Yes, that is what I need.’ When she looked up again two partners later. ‘Naraku’ she thought. Then she got a devilish plan she would wait right before switching partners again. When their hands came up to meet a second time they did not stay together long because he immediately snatched his away like it burned him which she actually tried purifying him but then he growled and he cursed under his breath and knew it was not him. She was glad they switched partners that moment for she thought she was done for.....
