Kagome was back into her all to familiar room within a couple minutes. She clasped onto the soft bed with the shimmering mask in hand. "Good grief...." Kagome said aloud as she placed the mask with her kimono for tonight. ‘Just a few more hours and onto a miserable night.’ Her thoughts were interrupted by a light knock on her door. "Lady Kagome, Edwin wishes to speak to you. He is out in the garden, and also is there anything you need?" Kagome let out a sigh as she stood. "Nay, Sashi I am fine, please tell him I will be there shortly." "Aye, M’lady."
Kagome listened as her servants soft steps faded out. ‘I shall meet Edwin, and then change into some servants cloths and get the heck out of this house before it drives me over the edge.’ Kagome once again glanced in the mirror and once again was out into the busy halls of her home.
Once into the peaceful garden, Kagome’s favorite place out of all of them on their lands.
"My Lady, ye are as lovely as ever." Edwin said as he took her hand and laid a dry kiss upon the back of it. "And you, are the same as ever Mr. Hillton." "Kagome, my dear we have known each other for years and still you prefer to call me by my last name." "It tis what's best sir."
Edwin let a sigh and then said "Take a walk with me...Kagome." He held out his hand to her and she slowly took it. Kagome sighed mentally and began to think. ‘This is all I need right now is a lecture on why and who I should marry and then he shall hint he is available.’ "My dear."
‘Here it comes.’ "I believe if I am not mistaken that next month is your eighteenth, and you are not even engaged to any man. It is time for ye to marry, my sister was married when she was sixteen and soon to have a child, but ye have not even looked remotely in any of the men who have tried to court ye." Kagome felt like banging her head against a wall she was so sick of hearing the same thing at least once a week.
"Sir, I have not the time to be courted and at the present moment my cousin Kikyo is doing a perfectly well task at luring the men to her." Kagome slipped her hand out of his and began to walk away, but then her arm was grabbed by his strong grip. "Kagome, I am just warning ye. Sooner or later the court will make a choice of who you marry and you will have no say in it and most likely you will not like who they arrange to be your husband." Edwin released his grip.
‘He is right sooner or later I will have to marry.’ "I thank you for your warning Edwin, and I shall look into further soon." Once again she walked away only to be stopped by is voice.
"My offer is still here Kagome." She turned and looked at him. His hair black as hers and about shoulder length and he stood about two inches taller then herself. His black kimono stood brightly against all the green in the garden, and dark brown eyes starred into her own. "I shall see you later Edwin." "Until next time Kagome." He did a light bow and then turned his back to her as did she the same. As soon as Kagome closed the French doors that lead to the garden she leaned on them and let out the breath she had been holding. "My life just gets better and better." She then looked to the sun and saw it was mid-afternoon. ‘I have to hurry if I wish to go out into the market today. Kagome quickly pulled herself together and went back to her room. once there she pulled out a chest that laid under her bed and opened it, there inside a women’s service kimono. Kagome took it out and re-closed the chest but before she replaced it under her bed she traced the markings on it with her elegant fingers. "Father." She started remembering when he gave her the chest with her name engraved on it. "God I miss you." She shook her head as if to rid herself of a burden and replaced the chest under her bed. Kagome stood and began to strip herself of the ruby red kimono and quickly dressed in the maids outfit and walked over to the mirror.
"Well Kagome, you look like a servant to me as always when you dress in this kimono." She said to herself as she looked over the plain outfit, she then ran to her closet and pulled out her plainest cloak and hooked it around her neck and then pulled the hood over her head and tucked in all her loose hair. "The things I do for freedom. If I had wanted to go to the market place as ‘Lady Kagome’ I would have guards every step of the way." Once done she pulled the hood further over her face to conceal it. ‘I probably do not have time now to practice my archery since a certain man wanted me to hear his lecture about marriage for the hundredth time.’ She opened her door and glanced down the hall to make sure no one saw her leave and then headed for the stair case, once on ground floor she glanced around again and then raced for the door. She had done lost count how many times she had done this since her father died, her mind raced almost as fast as her heart pounded; like a child who did something bad and refused to take the blame and ran.
As soon as her hand reached the handle and pulled the large door open then she heard it. "Ye servant girl." Kagome did not even turn around to see who it was or even if they were talking to her. She bolted out the door like her life depended on it, she ran all the way to the front gate until it came into sight then she slowed her pace so it would not look suspicious. As she took her first step out though the iron gate that was three times taller then her. "Halt, what business to you have leaving the castle wench?" Kagome turned and looked at the demon guard she even knows him as Narin a childhood friend. ‘Oh gosh if he smells me..!’ "Speak wench or be thrown into the dungeon." Kagome took a breath and steadied herself. "I am Lady Kagome’s servant and she has asked me to go out to the market place for her." Narin calmed a bit at hearing his old friends name. He narrowed his eyes at her and decided to let her pass; ye can go wench and give my regards to your mistress." Kagome gave a slight nod and turned and walk towards the busy streets of the village and as she did released a great sigh.
Right before Narin went back to is post he picked up on the girls scent and instantly recognized it. He shook his head and knowing what mischief his lady was trying to get into and let a small smile slip on his lips as he whispered. "You haven’t changed Kagome, I’ll get you on your way back in." Then back to his post he went. Kagome inhaled the good old out door smells as she entered the village streets that were filled with demon and humans alike. "Finally, a place where i have no responsibilities." She then thought back to Narin. I thought he went off to train five years ago, its good to see him back; she let a smile play on her lips. Then began to remember more things, things she didn’t want to bring up ‘its been four years since my father died
Sota is now fifteen.’ Kagome forcefully brought her attention back to the market place in front of her eyes. "Lets see what items will interest me today."
