After a lengthy distance, Inuyasha stopped in front of a small wooden cabin that looked abandoned. Inuyasha set Kagome down. “Stay here,” he ordered and went inside to make sure no one or thing inhabited it.
He came out a second later pulling Kagome inside roughly and slammed the door shut. She took off the jacket of his kimono and set her bag down looking around. The cabin was dim and stuffy, not to mention dusty. It was empty besides a small table and a pallet occupying the corner across the room. It was dingy, but it was dry and for that Kagome was thankful.
Inuyasha paced menacingly like a caged tiger, trying not to lose his temper. But that, he thought, was unavoidable. He turned to Kagome. “What the hell were you thinking taking off like that?!”
Kagome looked down and didn't answer.
“I was worried out of my mind! How did you plan to go home with out the jewel?”
Kagome raised her gaze to his, opened her mouth than closed it again.
Inuyasha scoffed. “Exactly.”
Kagome was angry at the truth of his observation. She was angry at herself for being stupid enough to think she could somehow get home with out the jewel, and she was pissed at Inuyasha for not wanting her to stay.
She hoped to be able to get away without a painful confrontation, but it looks like that's exactly what she was going to get.
Thinking it could be avoided altogether Kagome bolted out the door and into the rain.
“Come back here damn it!” Inuyasha yelled, more than a little irritated.
Kagome didn't know where she was running. She had even left her bag in the cabin. The rain soaked through her clothes and mud splashed under her feet as she ran. But she wanted to run far from Inuyasha, his rejections, and her unacquainted feelings for him. But that wasn't about to happen, she realized, when two strong arms grabbed her around the waist stopping her dead in her tracks.
“Let me go, Inuyasha! Let go!” Kagome kicked her feet wildly.
“Fat chance,” he muttered as he half carried her, half dragged her back into the cabin. He kicked the door shut with his foot, and set Kagome down. She pushed away from him, nearly stumbling as she faced him angrily.
“Why'd you bring me back here, Inuyasha?”
“Because I'm not finished with you yet, that's why,” Inuyasha retorted uncouthly.
“Maybe I'm finished with you.” She tried to pass him to get to the door again. Inuyasha stopped her easily by placing his strong hands on her shoulders.
“You know, Kagome, you're acting like a real brat right now.”
Kagome didn't disagree and said nothing, just glared at him.
“Now,” Inuyasha began. “What the hell were you thinking leaving like that?”
“I . . .” Kagome shut her mouth again. What could she say? She knew he didn't love her? She knew it was wrong to want him to change his dream for her, but still wished he'd do so? Or that she couldn't be near him another moment before she made a fool of herself in front of the man she loved?
Inuyasha became irritated by her silence and continued on. “I'll ask you again, how in the hell did you expect to get back home without the jewel?”
Kagome had wondered that herself and again didn't answer.
“I see,” Inuyasha observed quietly. He stared at her for a moment, aggravated by her continued silence still. He couldn't hold back his words, damn the consequences.
“So then what the fuck were you doing with Koga?! Why did you allow him to put his lips all over you?”
“It wasn't like that.” For me anyway, she silently added. But she didn't want him to go back and try to kill Koga so she kept the thought to herself. “He was just trying to comfort me.”
Inuyasha sneered. “Yeah? Well I wonder how damn far you would have let him go to give you `comfort'.”
Kagome's hand connected with Inuyasha's face forcefully, the sound of palm hitting flesh echoed through the small space of the cabin. She gasped and scooted back at the menacing look that crossed over his features. His jaw clenched visibly as he stared at her, unspeaking.
He knew he deserved it. That comment was out of line. He had seen Kagome struggling to push Koga away. It's just everything about this situation irked him beyond his control. Kagome hearing his unkind words, her trying to leave him, finding her with Koga after he searched out her scent fearing for her safety. He didn't blame her for wanting to leave him.
But he wanted to take her to the well at least. He meant what he said to Koga, Kagome would belong to him, even if she wasn't meant to stay with him.
Kagome still stood there looking fearful of how he'd react to her slapping him. She was soaked still, water dripped off her hair and body. Wet tendrils fell across her forehead and her yellow tank top and white skirt molded against her, revealing every ample curve.
Inuyasha thought she looked seductive and beautiful. His features softened immensely though he stayed silent as he stared at her intently.
Kagome still found herself afraid to move or speak.
They just stood there staring at each other quietly. Only the pouring rain hitting the roof top of the cabin made for the solitary noise besides the occasional clash of thunder. Inuyasha stepped closer to her tentatively, careful not to scare her.
She didn't even flinch in fear as he lifted a hand to her face, for she read desire in his eyes and not anger. His rough hands gently pushed back the wet hair away from her face. She let her eyes drift closed at his soft, warm touch. He trailed a hand down her cheek and rubbed her bottom lip with the pad of his thumb.
Kagome slowly opened her eyes to meet his as she kissed the tip of his thumb.
His hands glided down to rest gently on the back of her nape. Kagome raised her hand to gently touch his cheek which was still red from the impact of her hand. But Inuyasha didn't cringe as if there was no pain at all.
They held gazes until their eyes drifted closed as their lips met tenderly. They stayed unmoving for a moment simply touching lips, each testing their boundaries.
Inuyasha turned his head slightly allowing himself better access to her soft lips. He gently parted them with his tongue and touched her tongue sensually with his. Kagome moaned softly in sweet acceptance and wrapped her arms around his neck pressing herself more firmly against him. They kissed softly, passionately, longingly.
Kagome trailed her lips over Inuyasha's cheek to his chin. He leaned his head back and allowed her to nibble and lick his neck. His eyes closed as his body heated and responded in ecstasy.
He found Kagome's lips and kissed her again, this time with rough passion. A growl erupted from Inuyasha's throat as he squeezed her breast. Not harshly, but sensually.
Even through her wet clothes she could feel Inuyasha's hot touch. It was like a ripple affect for she felt tingles from her breast slowly expand through her body like waves.
Inuyasha broke the kiss long enough to pick her up and carry her to the small pallet in the corner of the room. He laid her down gently. He kneeled above her, slowly lowering himself to kiss her.
“I want you so much, Kagome.”
Kagome turned her head before his lips touched hers.
“What's wrong?” he whispered, bemused.
Kagome felt his warm breath brush her cheek and she wanted desperately to give herself to him. But his worlds echoed hollow in her mind. I want you . . . He had said want. Not need and especially not love.
The moment now felt empty and callous.
He asked again, “What's wrong, Kagome?”
Kagome, unable to tell him, simply said, “Could you just hold me please?”
Inuyasha looked perplexed, but not angry. “Sure,” he said softly.
He laid next to her and gathered her in his arms allowing her to rest her head on his chest. He didn't understand her sudden change of heart, one minute she was moaning with fervor, the next she was quiet and emotionally withdrawn. But he didn't question her, just ignored his body's longing for her sweetness and closed his eyes.
They fell asleep in each other's arms as the rain proved to be their lullaby.
***********
Kagome sought out the warmth that had held her through the night. She rolled over only to find Inuyasha gone from the pallet they slept on. Opening her eyes she squinted from the bright sunlight that flowed through the small window of the cabin. Kagome looked around to discover she was completely alone.
Fear clutched her heart. Did Inuyasha leave her? But wasn't that what she wanted? Kagome knew there was no way to get home without the jewel. She stood and slipped her shoes on.
Stepping out of the cabin she took in the scenery. Besides a bit of mud and a few rain puddles there was no sign that it rained last night. The sky was blue, the sun shone brightly, and there wasn't a cloud in sight.
She spotted Inuyasha in a nearby tree sitting on a low branch. Kagome hid her joy at seeing him with her still and walked over to the tree. She stood below him looking up.
Inuyasha looked down from what he was staring at and met her gaze. Leaning down he offered her his hand. “C'mon.”
Kagome hesitated than grabbed his hand. He pulled her up with what seemed like no trouble at all. He set her next to him on the thick, rough branch and Kagome let her gaze follow to where he was staring.
She gasped. “Oh! It's beautiful!”
Before them were the lands of feudal Japan. Green pastures, rock formations, and small lakes and rivers were bathed in radiant sunlight. It looked amazing in all its shining glory.
Kagome and Inuyasha just sat there enjoying the scenes for a while longer . . .
