*me* okay, okay, here you go:
At dawn Kagome woke Sango to say goodbye. Her friend begged her not to leave this way, but Kagome knew she had no choice that wouldn't leave her heart shattered except to leave without Inuyasha.
Kagome hugged Sango making her promise to say goodbye to Miroku, Kohaku, and the children for her.
Before she stepped out into the cool morning air, Kagome placed a folded paper into Sango's hand. “Please make sure Inuyasha gets this.”
Sango nodded holding back her tears for she knew this would be the last time she ever sees her friend again. They hugged once more, then Kagome was gone. Sango prayed her friend would be okay.
***********
Inuyasha,
I hate to say goodbye through a piece of paper,
but I can't face you. Please don't be angry. I'm
going home now and will no longer be an
encumbrance to you.
Goodbye.
Sincerely,
Kagome
Inuyasha crumbled the paper in his clenched fist. Rage soared through him like an uncontrollable fire. `What the hell was she thinking?! The little fool!' he wondered angrily as he pulled the shiny orb from his kimono. She doesn't even have the jewel, how does she plan to pass through the well? It was already noon, according to Sango she's been gone since dawn.
If Sango wasn't pregnant he would have wrung her neck for being stupid enough to let Kagome go out there alone. What was Kagome planning to do? Magically appear in her era with no need for the jewel? Wanting answers, he said a hasty goodbye to Miroku and his family and set out in search for that damn wench.
***********
Kagome walked on in the direction the well was in. She knew it'd take a day or two to get there, but she was in no hurry. Kagome rubbed the stubborn tears off her cheeks again.
They continued to fall on what seemed like their own accord. Her heart was broken but she was sick of crying. Her eyes were puffy and she couldn't stop sniffling.
How could she not cry when she was forced to leave the only man she ever loved? She knew he didn't love her like she did him. Sure he showed her how much he physically desired her, but lusting after someone wasn't the same as loving them.
When you loved someone you don't let them go for your own selfish reasons. Or maybe it was she who was being selfish, Kagome thought. She expected Inuyasha to forget something he wanted more than anything in order to accommodate her wants and needs. Maybe he was right when he told Miroku they'd be better off apart.
Maybe they weren't meant for each other and it was time for her to accept that. Oh, but it would be hard after all these years of hoping. But she would have no regrets, Kagome thought as she straightened her shoulders in a stubborn gesture. She would remember all the times with Inuyasha with a sense of virility. She would always keep him in her heart even though she had to move on.
Kagome noticed the dark rain clouds that hovered in the sky as she walked inside a gorge like area where large rock walls surrounded her on each side. She didn't remember coming through here with Inuyasha and hoped this was just a short cut that would lead her back to the right path.
Feeling a little wary and cautious of being alone, Kagome wrapped her arms around herself in hopes of warding off her fear. The fine hairs on the back of her nape stood and she got chills.
Feeling as though she was being watched, she picked up her pace walking a little faster. Who would be watching or following her? No answer came to mind and definitely did not ease her trepidation. Her thoughts ran turbulent as she glanced around her. Seeing nothing but feeling someone near by, she kept on walking.
As Kagome turned back around she nearly ran into her stalker. She let out a panicked scream. Two strong arms reached out and steadied her as her head spun. All she saw before she fainted were two aslant, turquoise eyes.
***********
`Damn, but she's beautiful,' thought Koga as he laid her on a fur pallet inside of the lofty cave. Thunder rolled outside, threatening a downpour of summer rain.
Koga sat next to Kagome staring at her lovely face. He hadn't meant to scare her earlier but he had watched her awhile wondering if and why she was truly alone.
That damn mutt! Inuyasha must have deserted her. Koga knew Inuyasha didn't deserve someone as wonderful as Kagome. Indignation filled him at the carelessness of that bastard leaving her alone to fend for herself in a dangerous atmosphere.
Koga laid a wet, cool cloth on Kagome's head. Her eye lids began to flutter, then slowly opened. Her beautiful brown eyes showed confusion and her gaze sought out something familiar. Her eyes landed on him and they registered surprise and recognition.
The first thing out of her mouth wasn't something he expected her to say at the moment. “You know, Koga, you should really not sneak up on people.”
He stared at her incredulously, then barked out a deep laugh. Kagome was befuddled at his reaction to her statement, but felt her lips curl in response.
She peeled the cool rag from her forehead and vigilantly sat up. Kagome couldn't believe that she had been so overcome with fear that she fainted. Though she was thankful that it had been Koga who found her and not some blood lusting demon.
“Thank you for looking after me, Koga.”
His azure eyes were kind. “Think nothing of it, Kagome. I'd do anything to remain near your essence.”
Kagome forced a smile not wanting to hurt the feelings of the man who just saved her. She was grateful to him, but she still missed Inuyasha. But she wouldn't allow her thoughts to lead in that dismal direction again.
Kagome looked to Koga to find him staring at her fixedly. “What's bothering you, Kagome?”
“Why would you think anything's bothering me, Koga?”
His eyes softened. “Please, Kagome, your face is an open book and I can read the look of reminiscent pain on it.”
Kagome was astounded at this acute assumption. She looked down at her hands in her lap. “Let's talk about something else, please Koga.”
He scooted a little closer, when he spoke his voice was gentle. “Okay. Why were you walking alone? Where's that mu—” Seeing Kagome's devastated flinch he changed his words. “Where's Inuyasha?”
And unwanted tear rolled down Kagome's cheek.
Koga caught it with his rough finger. Kagome cautiously pulled away. “He's where he should be.” Kagome refused to tell Koga that Inuyasha planned to turn full demon. Kagome didn't want Koga to go in search of the jewel, knowing Inuyasha had it.
“Are you going to where you're supposed to be, Kagome?” Koga asked candidly.
Kagome met his gaze earnestly. “I guess. I don't really know where I belong anymore.” Kagome had always hoped to fit in with Inuyasha and his world, but it's obvious that that's not so and as for home in her own era . . . well that stopped feeling like home when she fell in love with Inuyasha. It all seems so lonely to think of going back there now.
Her small apartment, her job. Of course she loves Mom, Sota, and Grandpa, but they all had their own lives. Nothing feels complete without Inuyasha.
Koga's large hand covered Kagome's. She looked into his eyes to see sincerity.
“You can belong with me, Kagome. I would never take you for granted.”
Kagome gave an honest smile. “I know, Koga.”
She did know, and though a bit overbearing at times, Koga was a good guy. But he wasn't the guy she wanted. Images of Inuyasha filled her mind and her heart. Seeing him for the first time up in that tree after coming back to the feudal era after six years, seeing him as a handsome human, when he gave her that flower, when he kissed her . . .
Thunder boomed outside shattering all her sensual images and thoughts. Kagome heard rain begin to splatter on the ground. It rained so heavy so quickly that it sounded like marbles hitting a hardwood floor.
The smell of wet soil invaded the cave and Kagome's senses. Koga still sat close to her, but stared outside the opening of the cavern. Kagome stayed silent just allowing the rain's innate melody to carry on. Her mind began to wonder as lighting flashed, illuminating the dim cave. Rolling thunder quickly followed.
Kagome frowned to herself wishing she could gain control over her emotions. She loved Inuyasha with all her heart but she wished she didn't have to. Loving him caused her nothing but pain and incorrigible sadness. Would she ever find love for someone other than Inuyasha?
She looked at Koga's profile. He was handsome, strong, and more than willing to love her . . . So what was her problem? A small voice in her mind whispered, `Because he's not Inuyasha.'
That did it. That sent Kagome into uncontrollable sobs and inexorable tears. Koga turned to her immediately, asking what was wrong. Kagome just shook her head unable to talk.
Without a word Koga pulled her to him, embracing her for comfort. Kagome sobbed until she felt dry and vacant on the inside. She tried to pull back, but Koga didn't let go. She met his turquoise eyes with evasiveness. He eyes were passion hazed and Kagome began to feel more than a little apprehensive.
Warning bells went off in her head. This wasn't right. Koga, oblivious to her reluctance, pushed his lips on hers in a bruising, one-sided kiss. Kagome squirmed, pushing against his chest, craving freedom.
Koga was still too frenzied to notice her objections. She was ready to bite his lip when an angry voice cut through the air like a blade.
“Get your hands off of her, you filthy bastard!”
Koga finally released her, and stood to face a rain drenched Inuyasha.
“I ought to kick your ass right now for even laying a finger on her.” As if on cue lighting flashed behind him causing his strong silhouette to appear as ominous as the thunder that followed.
Inuyasha unsheathed his tetsuiga, his stance made it apparent that he was ready for battle. Koga advanced towards him. “What are you? Her father?
Inuyasha growled. “No. But I know when a woman is trying to refuse my advances.”
Koga scoffed. “What the hell are you talking about?”
Inuyasha didn't answer, instead he looked to Kagome. “Come here,” he ordered in a voice that would not be refused. Kagome went willingly, clutching her bag in her hand as though it was a lifeline.
“You're not taking her anywhere, mutt.”
Inuyasha's eyes remained stern with a threatening glow. “Oh yes I am.”
Koga clenched his fists. “You don't own her, asshole.”
Inuyasha reached back with his free hand and grabbed her wrist thrusting it forward under Koga's face. “These marks would say otherwise. She'll be coming with me because she belongs with me. And she doesn't want your slimy lips on her.”
Koga's cerulean eyes looked to Kagome in confusion. “Is that true, Kagome?”
Kagome didn't know if he referred to the Inuyasha branded marks or her not wanting his physical advances, but she whispered, “I'm sorry, Koga.”
Inuyasha dropped her hand roughly. “Don't apologize to that shitty wolf, Kagome. He's about to die.” Inuyasha raised his sword and Kagome put herself in front of him immediately. His brow furrowed in fury. “Move, Kagome,” he commanded.
“No,” she answered softly yet sternly.
Inuyasha glared at her.
Her eyes pleading she whispered, “Please, Inuyasha. Don't do this.”
His ocher eyes softened and his brows relaxed. He looked passed her to Koga and ordered, “Stay away from her.”
For once Koga was wise enough not to add retort. Inuyasha sheathed his tetsuiga in one quick motion. Finally taking his eyes off of Koga he turned to Kagome and took off the jacket of his kimono and threw it around her shoulders and over her head.
It was rain soaked on the outside but dry and warm on the inside. He bent and picked up Kagome, surprising her, but she wrapped her arms around his neck anyway. Neither of them looked at Koga before Inuyasha jumped from the lofty cave, Kagome in his arms.
The pouring rain pelted against their bodies like sharp pebbles. Inuyasha began running, leaping every now and again for added speed and distance. Kagome buried her face in the crook of Inuyasha's neck to avoid the stinging rain on her face.
A/N: I know, I know, it was a bit short. But I'd still love a review anyway! Lol. Just wanted to say sorry for Inuyasha and Kagome being so ignorant when it comes to talking about their feelings, but my characters seem to take on a life of their own. They do what they want, hey, I'm even a bit angry with them for not paying attention to the signs they give each other! Lol. Anyway if you enjoyed the chapter even though there was no mushy stuff, I'd still love to hear from ya!
