[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Disclaimer: This is getting redundant; I do not own these characters they belong to someone else. I did however just buy the Inuyasha action figure to go with my Inuyasha plushie

A.N: Okay do you guys hate me? I updated two whole new chapters and not one review. *sigh* Oh well maybe this chapter will motivate some of you to write one, please?

*&^%$&%$#@*

The days passed quickly and before I knew it, it was Saturday morning. Waking up I felt much too energized considering how much sleep I didn't get the previous night. The anticipation was killing me and now it was here. Peeking over my bed I was not surprised that Inuyasha was already long gone and the futon stored away.

After my morning routine I trudged downstairs to find only Sota eating breakfast. Plopping down in front of him I began making a plate, “Good morning Sota, where is everyone?”

“gmpegnndmumwnt-

“Eww Sota! Don't talk with your mouthful.”

After a big sign and a heavy eye roll he finished chewing and spoke clearly, “Grandpa had to go to the Megazoi shrine this morning and Mom said she had some errands to run.”

I paused eating and waited for him to continue, but instead the little brat just stuffed more food into his mouth and gave me a grin, followed by yet another eye roll.

“Honestly sis you're so sick, Inuyasha left early too and NO I don't know where he went or when he'd be back.”

That was so unlike Inuyasha, over the last two weeks we'd ate just about every meal together and we hardly went into the city without the other. So why was he acting so strangely? Was he having second thoughts about tonight?

Getting up I placed my bowl in the sink not even bothering to finish what was left. Going up stairs I grabbed a quick shower before changing into some deep low-rise hip hugger jeans, a green t-shirt with a hello kitty on it and some flip flops and made my way back down the stairs.

Sota was no longer in the kitchen; instead he was already sprawled out in front of the living room floor watching the latest Saturday morning anime. “Sota, I'm going out for a while, tell mama I'll be back by lunchtime.”

The boy barely blinked as he started at the screen like a zombie, but he flicked his hand at me as if I was a pest so I went off anyway. Grabbing a few bills and mom's credit card out of my purse I headed off. I really didn't have a destination; I just knew that if I stayed in that house for too long I'd kill myself. So in an effort to distract myself from tonight I decided to just let the wind guide me.

Oddly enough the streets seemed to be swamped with teenagers, mainly girls, who were probably getting their last minute things before tonight. Two train rides later I was on the other side of Tokyo exploring. I never really had the chance to do such things on my own so this was a treat to myself.

And speaking of treats, I was hungry….. Maybe I shouldn't have skipped out on breakfast. Spotting a park across the street from where I was currently shopping, I crossed the busy intersection and could have jumped for joy when I saw a vender. Buying a pretzel and lemonade, I made my way into the park.

I quickly regretted my decision. Apparently it was the day of lovers because everywhere I turned there were young couples in love; some sitting on a blanket, others playing on the swings and a few just taking a stroll but their eyes never leaving the others. And then I saw one couple who stood out more than anything. The girl wore a priestess outfit similar to that of our shrine, probably from the one down the street and the boy she was with was dressed in black jeans and red shirt as well. They both had long hair and the wind seemed to give its blessing as it made it mingle together. He held her to him as they whispered to each other what no one else was meant to hear, and the love practically radiated off them. I knew it wasn't really Kikyo and Inuyasha, they didn't even resemble them at all, but somehow I felt it was life's way of telling myself that I was just kidding myself for ever believing things would go anywhere with Inuyasha. I felt a pang at my chest, and I realized how once again out of place I was.

I left the park as quickly as I'd come and tried to do some shopping to take my mind off the things I would never have. Material things weren't important to me, but buying things, especially for others, always seemed to put me in a better mood. So, two hours later I was loaded down with gifts. Shippo was always the easiest; I picked him up new candy and colors and threw in some kitty chow for Kiara. Kaede seemed to of been complaing about her back as of late so I bought her the biggest bottle of aspirin I could find. For Miroku I bought him a “dummy's guide to romance,” in hopes of him wooing Sango better, and for my gal pal I tossed her in some make-up and nail polish. I never thought of her being into those things but the last time she saw my red toe nails she seemed to really like them.

And now I was left with getting something for Inuyasha. Turning into a rather `dark' looking store I crossed my fingers that they would have something for him. The gods were not smiling on me because it seemed that most of the store was made up of sex toys including whips and bondage things. `Yikes'. But on my way out I saw a wall covered in many different t-shirts, most of them black and one of them in particular seemed to fit the hanyou just right.

Making my way over to them I let out a laugh when I read the shirt again, how perfect! It was a plain black shirt with only two words written on it. “Top Dog” I laughed again at the thought of Inuyasha wearing it during a battle with Sesshy. Picking out his size I came across a different shirt, a more feminine shirt. It was still black but the material seemed much thinner and the shirt was much smaller with the word “Bitch” written out on it with sequins. I laughed again at the hilarity of the situation and went to pay for our shirts. Surely Inuyasha would get a kick out of it right?

Now I was done with my shopping escapade and I was feeling a whole lot happier. Closing the door behind me I looked up to see the store name. “Scream” was lit up in hot pink neon lights. I shuddered, I should have known better to go in there but I was now glad that I had.

Glancing at my watch I noticed that it was already one o'clock. Oh crap I'd told mama I'd be back by lunch and by the time I'd get there I'd be at least two. So two train rides later I was practically running up the shrine steps taking two at a time. And it was on the very last step that the bags I was carrying managed to get in-between my legs trip me up.

“EEEEE!!!!-------Ump”

Opening my eyes I was now in the comfortable embrace of someone in a white shirt. Just breathing in I knew exactly who it was. “Thanks Inuyasha.”

“No problem, you need help with those?”

Looking up I gave him a smile nodding and gave a sigh of relief as he took them all from me and managed to carry them in one hand instead of my two. He offered his other hand to me and I gratefully took it.

“Have a busy morning?” Humor filled his voice and I was slightly relived he wasn't ticked off for not telling him where I was off to. But of course what was I thinking this was human Inuyasha, not cranky jealous hanyou Inuyasha.

“You could say that.”

Once inside took back the bags from Inuyasha partly because I was afraid he'd see his shirt and started up the stairs.

“Kagome! Is that you?”

Oh yes here it was, the lecture. “Yeah Mom it's me!” I shouted back to somewhere downstairs.

“Alright sweetie, I left you some lunch in the fridge!” I was surprised and relieved to find that she didn't follow me up the stairs and demand to know where I'd been. Oh well, she was probably just as excited about tonight as I was.

After putting things away and eating Mom's tasty leftovers, I was once again left with nothing to do to occupy me until tonight. Four hours…….what in the hell could I do for four hours?

Entering the living room I found Inuyasha and Sota sprawled in front of the TV playing play station 2. I couldn't help but smile at the expressions on their faces as they continued to try to pummel the other into the ground. This might not be such a bad way to relax; after all I still had a few hours before I needed to get ready.

Lying on the sofa behind them I watched as Sota continuously beat Inuyasha in the first two rounds never making it to the third. After a few more rounds Inuyasha began gaining some ground and things were just getting interesting when Mama called me from upstairs.

“Yeah what is it Mama?” I asked, closing my door behind me. She was already taking the liberty of getting all of my things ready for tonight and laying them on the bed. “Kagome you need to go and get cleaned up! We're still going to have to blow dry it and then pin it up and not to mention your make-up.”

“Wait a second make-up? Mama you're not going to make me look like some kind of geisha are you?”

She laughed as she pushed me into the bathroom and began starting up a bath. “Don't be ridiculous Kagome, but you will need a bit of blush on your cheeks or your pictures will come out horrible.”

Stripping I suddenly remembered another important factor, “Mama we still have 3 hours before the dance even starts!”

“It's better that you be ready early instead of running behind,” she said closing the bathroom door behind her. Reluctantly I did as she told me and in 30 minutes I was wrapped in a towel and sitting in front of a mirror as she blew dry my hair.

I never knew how tedious it was to get your hair pinned up, and it wasn't even a fancy up do. I couldn't imagine how it was back in the feudal days.

Hm……feudal….. “Hey Mama where's Inuyasha?”

“That's a good question, I don't know, last time I checked he was getting into the shower.”

“Oh….OW! Mama could you go a little easy on the hair geez.” Why had I agreed to do this?

30 excruciating minutes later I was quite pleased with the up-do although I was certain that my scalp was bleeding in places. Strangely enough every time I asked Mama a question about Inuyasha or tonight she'd tug just a bit harder.

Standing up I enjoyed a good stretch before two shockingly strong arms pushed me right back down into the chair. “Oh no you don't young lady; we have to do your make-up.”

I pouted, I couldn't help it, my butt hurt like hell, I had a crink I my neck and I was being forced to sit her and be tortured for who knew how much longer. And yet again, 15 minutes later I sat staring at myself in the mirror. I couldn't recognize myself. Thankfully Mama had gone easy on the make-up and I was grateful, but it was amazing what a little bit could do.

I smiled at her through the mirror, she looked so happy with her hands clasped together; she looked as if though I was her work of art. “Thanks Mama you did a great job.”

She wiped a way at her eyes and I don't know if she'd been crying or not but she helped me unstick my ass from the chair and directed me to the dress on the bed….. oh my beautiful dress.

“Kagome, I'm going to go downstairs for a little bit and check on Inuyasha's progress, I'm sure he'd bound to have trouble with that tie.”

“Tie?”

“Of course dear, what did you expect he would wear tonight, that fire cloak thing?”

That produced quite a funny mental picture and as I pictured us in my head both in red at the formal, I imagined us looking quite a bit like Mr. and Mrs. Santa Clause. And apparently my mother had been imagining something not far from that because she let out a chuckle as she made her way out the door, “If you need help getting dressed let me know dear.”

“Thanks Mom.”

Turning back at the items on the bed I felt so giddy, like a child in a candy store for the first time. I carefully slipped the dress on careful not to get make-up or deodorant stains on it and not to mention the beehive on my head…..Okay so it wasn't really a beehive, it was simply pulled back in a high bun with strands of curls here and there.

Zipping up the dress I ran to my bathroom to look at myself in the full length mirror. Yup it still fit just as well as at the store, only now it looked so much more sophisticated with my hair and make-up done. I ran back and put on my strappy matching high heeled shoes.

Shoes that were way higher than anything I'd ever walked in before…..Oh great, please please don't let me fall on Inuyasha tonight! I thought as I fastened them. The accessories were simple, I wore Mama's diamond studs with a bracelet made of rubies and diamonds Daddy had given her on their first year anniversary.

My palms suddenly began feeling a bit too sweaty and the damn butterflies in my stomach wouldn't quit dancing. A knock at my door startled me out of my thoughts and I answered in a bit too shaky of a voice, “Y-yes?”

“Kagome are you dressed yet?” My mother's muffled voice from the other side of the door relieved my sudden anxiety.

“Yeah yeah come in,” I tossed back through the door, the giddiness finding it's way back, somehow I felt like I was sharing a secret with a friend in elementary school again.

She opened the door, stepped in and froze.

Uh oh, is that a good sign?

And then she began crying……She shut the door behind her and she ran up to me hugging me for all I was worth. “Oh Kagome you look so beautiful! My little girl's all grown up.”

I found it quite difficult to breathe but I patted her back reassuringly hoping she'd get the hint and release me, and a few minutes later, she did. She wiped her eyes again and gave me a smile that made me happy I agreed to do this.

She took my hand and began leading me downstairs but I stopped her a bit too quickly. “Mama what are you doing we still have an hour and a half before the formal even begins.”

“Come on Kagome, everyone's excited to see you,” something about the tone she took made me follow like an obedient dog and then I suddenly felt very nervous again…….. about seeing Inuyasha.

Gripping the banister of the stairs I paused at the top before descending, my mother long gone with talk about the video camera and shouts to Inuyasha and Sota to get ready. Why did I feel so sick? Gathering all the courage I had I began my descent down the stairs.

*&^$S%^S&*****

Hahaha I am evil. Sorry I left it here but it's getting pretty late and I've been getting up too early lately. Hope the length makes up for my late postings.

Next chapter: just why is Kagome's mom being so mean? What could she be hiding? Will Inuyasha like the dress? ;) You'll just have to read the next chapter to find out!

P.S your reviews would be awesome!
