InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Undecided...for now..."Time Can Do So Much" ❯ The Unsuspected... ( Chapter 1 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Kagome Higurashi laid on her bed thinking about how weird her life was. 'I bet no one has had a life as messed up as mine...' she thought. 'I mean, how many people fall down a well when they're 6 years old only to find that they're stuck in the Feudal Era? How many people end up becoming best friends with a hanyu?' She knew no one would believe her. She found it hard to believe herself......
When Kagome was 6, she had been the typical innocent, playful child. One day she had been outside playing with her cousin, Hojo. Her family had always cautioned them about the well, but they weren't afraid of it. It wasn't like they were going to try to jump in it or anything. However, that day seemed to hold more than they expected. Kagome and Hojo had decided to play hide and seek that day. It had been Kagome's turn to hide and she knew the perfect place....the well. She ran towards it as Hojo's cries of '1, 2, 3...' faded into the destance. She ducked down behind the well, congratulating herslef on how clever she had been to hide there. All of a sudden, a big man with long silver hair began to climb out of the well. Kagome screamed as she panicked... 'How did he get in the well!! Who is he? It's a monster!!' she had thought. She began to run, but the man/monster, (she didn't know what he was), grabbed her around the waist and lifted her in front of him. "Who are you?! Let me go, please!" she had said as tears streamed down her face as she kicked and screamed. He had looked at her, devoid of emotion. She could see a slight look of confusion cross his face for a split second, as if he was contemplating what to do with her. "I did not mean to frighten you child." he had said. He then tossed her over his shoulder and jumped back into the well.
When Hojo heard Kagome's scream, he stopped counting and looked around. He couldn't see her anywhere....He looked everywhere, even at the well. That's when he found it....Kagome's bracelet. She had gotten it for her birthday, just 2 weeks earlier, from her mother. It was a silver charm bracelet that her mother had bought from an antique shop. It had various charms on it such as a teddy bear, a heart shaped bell, a little fairy with a wand, and many other tiny little charms. He picked it up, noticing the imprint of someone's foot right beside where it had laid. He knew something was wrong and ran into the house yelling for his aunt, uncle, and grandfather.....
They had searched for Kagome for hours, but they still hadn't found her. Eventually, they had to call the police and report that she was missing. By this point, Mr. and Mrs. Higurashi had been in a complete state of panic. Something was wrong...she could feel it. Finally, the police who had been searching for Kagome had given up. Days had passed, and no new information had turned up. They had checked the area where the footprint had been found. There were a few more, but they just seemed to disappear into nowhere. They asked around town, but no one had seen her or heard anything about her. After 3 months, Kagome's disappearance had been broadcasted all over the country in hopes that someone would have some information on her. However, no one did. After 2 years, and still no clues as to what had happened to her, they called the case off. The Higurashi's had been so distraught. Kagome's bedroom remained empty and seemed so lost without her. Her mother had placed the charm bracelet in the small jewelry box that sat on her dresser, hoping they would find Kagome so she could give it back to her. As time passed, and everyone gave up hope she only worked harder to find her daughter. With the help of her husband and father, they continued the search...
Meanwhile, Kagome had been dragged along with that man. The man with the long silver hair and golden eyes....When they entered the well, she had expected to fall and hit the bottom, but instead she felt as if she was floating. She looked towards the man and wondered how he was making it happen. 'Is this child the reason this happened to me?' he wondered. He looked down upon her tiny face and saw her big blue eyes looking at him full of fright. He held her close to give her some sense of protection until they landed at the other end of the well. He climbed out and sat her down. "Where are we?" she had asked. "Home." was the only answer she recieved. "But this isn't my home...I want my daddy..." she said as she began to cry. 'Oh, just great.' he thought. 'I get pushed into that well by someone or something I couldn't even see...then I end up climbing out of it again only to find this girl who may be the source of my problem looking at me as if I'm a huge monster....and now she's crying...I can't take this..' "Oh hush child." he said. "I won't hurt you. Just tell me, how did you get me into that well?" "Me?!" she said surprised. "I don't know what you're talking about. I was just playing hide and seek when you climbed out and grabbed me." He looked at her, still puzzled. 'So this child didn't have anything to do with it...' "Will you take me back now?" she said interrupting his thoughts. "I suppose." he said. 'I don't want to have to mess with her. I don't need any distractions.' He picked her up and jumped into the well........they landed with a thud. "It didn't work" he said as he began to worry. He jumped back out of the well with her in his arms and tried it again. Again, they landed with a loud thump at the bottom. "I'm afraid we can't get back, child." he said to Kagome. "But my mommy and daddy! They don't know where I am! I wanna go home..." she cried as she clung to his hori. He didn't know what to say or do, so he just held her and told her he was sorry.
He knew he couldn't keep her. He was a very important demon and he didn't have the time to waste taking care of a child. Especially not a human child. So, the next day he took her to a nearby village and left her with a healer named Kaede. Kaede had agreed to take care of the child until a way was found to get her back home....however long that may be. Kagome had not been happy about the situation, but she didn't put up much of a fuss. "I would rather be with you." she had said to the man. "No child, it is better for you here." he replied. He began to walk away, but she ran after him and clung to his leg. "Will you stay just a couple of minutes?" she asked. He looked down at this little girl who had become attached to him over the passed 2 days. She was so fragile and already seemed to admire him too much. He couldn't help but feel a little sorry for her as he told her he would stay, but only for a couple of minutes. During that time, he realized that she wasn't the only one who had developed an attachment. He could hardly bring himself to leave when the time came, but he knew he had to. "Wait!" she yelled. She ran up to him and asked him one last question..."What's your name?" He looked at her, as if wondering whether to answer her, and finally replied,"Sesshomaru."
Kagome had been living with Kaede for three years before she had finally been returned home. She had grown quite fond of Kaede. She had taught Kagome many things about her time. She learned many techniques for healing, making medicine, and even cooking. Kagome had been very surprised when Kaede had told Kagome that she posessed some very strong powers. Kaede had told her that she couldn't use them yet though. When she had asked why, Kaede said it was because she was still too young and still had too much to learn. Kaede had become a grandmother figure to Kagome. She had never had a grandmother. She really missed her family over the years. When she asked Kaede why they couldn't get back through the well, Kaede only answered, "That has yet to be seen."
About a week after Sesshomaru had left her with Kaede, she met Inuyasha. Inuyasha was a hanyu who lived all by himself out in the woods. She had come across him by accident one day when she was looking for a specific herb for Kaede. As she was looking for the herb, she noticed someone sitting up on a high branch of the hugest tree she had ever seen. When she looked up,she saw his long silver hair blowing in the wind. "Sesshomaru!!" she had cried out in delight. The boy in the tree only looked down at her with a strange expression on his face. Bewildered, she began climbing the tree. When the boy noticed what she was doing he had started laughing at her. "You can't climb all the way up here you stupid girl." he yelled at her. "Oh yes I can! You just watch." she replied as she stuck her tongue out at him. Slowly, but gradually she made her way up to him. He was actually quite suprised that she had made it, but didn't let her know that of course. She sat on the branch beside him and asked him who he was and why he looked so much like Sesshomaru. He told her he was Inuyasha and explained that Sesshomaru was his stupid half brother who had kicked him out of their home after their father had died. He continued to ramble about how much he hated his brother until finally Kagome yelled at him and stood up for Sesshomaru. Finally, they began to talk and understand eachother. She understood why he didn't like his brother and actually began to like Inuyasha a lot. When they heard someone yelling for Kagome, they realized that they had been sitting in the tree for hours. Kagome began to climb back to the ground. She was an awfully slow climber so Inuyasha picked her up and jumped to the ground. She thanked him and then she ran back to Kaede's hut.
From that day on Kagome and Inuyasha met at that tree, the Goshinboku tree, every day. They're friendship developed into a deep, trusting relationship and it was very seldom that you saw one of them without the other. They were best friends and no one could keep them apart. Inuyasha had become like a big brother to Kagome. He always protected her. At first she didn't realize that she was his only friend. In time, she discovered that no one would mess with Inuyasha because he was only half demon. He was rejected by humans...rejected by demons...Kagome was the only one who made him feel loved...
