InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Under the Blood Red Sun ❯ Homeward Bound ( Chapter 6 )
Chapter 6: Homeward Bound
“I’m sorry sir but we have to inspect all cargo leaving the city.” a black armored soldier said at the gates of the city. InuYasha nodded and stood shakily from the front of the wagon. Hobbling to the back he pulled the cover door open and revealed the dark interior.
“Miroku, Sango make sure Kori’s decent before we let this kind man do his job.” InuYasha said in his old man’s voice. “Sorry my youngest daughter is very ill and my wife would like to see her before she passes.” InuYasha brought a dust-covered hand to his face and wiped a false tear from his face.
“Father she’s decent, her fever dropped some so we put her clothes on.” Sango said as she pulled her ‘husband’ out by hand. They stood on the side of the wagon near InuYasha as the soldier lifted a lantern up and looked at the body of the ‘sick’ girl.
“We had to trade the rest of our belongings for the medicine to lower her fever.” Miroku said pointing at the bare interior.
“Well I hope you four arrive home safe and sound. Sorry for stopping you. Some strange rumors are flying around that an assassin had come and his target was our lovely princess. Then again you can’t count on the court jester,” the soldier said waving at the men on the wall. The Iron Gate creaked open slowly and the soldier walked back to inspect the next wagon.
“Shit Inu that was close.” Miroku said as he climbed back into the wagon. Sango nodded and followed the monk.
“Yes it was.” InuYasha aid as he hobbled back to the front and climbed back on the driver’s seat. ‘So they aren’t allowing the people know of her murder.’ InuYasha thought to himself as he drove the wagon out from beneath the gate. That girl Kori seemed very familiar, but InuYasha couldn’t place where he would have seen her. (My my, dense are InuYasha?)
InuYasha relaxed a bit as the main road reached the forest. Inhaling the scent of pine, oak and Kori scent InuYasha sighed. “Now she affects me? Damn girl and her scent.” Up ahead InuYasha came to a fork in the road. Stopping the wagon he read the two signs that pointed in each direction. “Warvik village to the right and Western Land’s border to the left. To the left then.” turning the dust covered black horse’s head towards the left, snapping the reins Ryu broke into a trot and headed towards InuYasha’s native land.
***Half an hour later***
InuYasha sighed in relief as he crossed the border into the Western Lands. “Alright Shippo you can stop hiding now. We have arrived in my father’s ancient lands.” InuYasha said slowing the wagon down as they came out of the forest and into a vast meadow. Down the road a farm lay nestled comfortably within an orchard of Syl trees.
“Wow this place is so beautiful.” Shippo said awed as he joined InuYasha on the drivers seat.
“Yeah I know.” InuYasha heard the nearly inaudible whinny of Miroku and Sango’s horses. “Hey Miroku your horse is calling for you.”
“Yes and I have a lady that is just wanting my attention.” Miroku said. A loud sound of flesh meeting flesh came to InuYasha’s ears as Miroku called out, “Oww Sango my beloved what was that for?”
“Groping me you pervert!” she said angrily as she pushed the monk out of the back of the wagon.
“Knock it off. Here’s the plan, We found Kori on the side of the road sick with fever and you runt were sitting on top of her trying to protect her.” InuYasha said as he turned the wagon down the Syl tree lane.
“Okay.” the three said together.
“Oh Master InuYasha!” a young woman said looking up from her wash. “Keva tell father Master InuYasha is back from his travels. A young man looked up from the wood he was chopping and nodded. He set the ax down and took off running. “How did your trip go?” these people were the only ones that InuYasha could stand because he had often gotten lost as a pup and ended up here.
“It went fine Sakura. How were Aiko and Ito?” InuYasha asked her.
“The horses? Fine like they always are.” she answered as they headed towards the modest house. The old man was leaning on his son-in-laws arm as Keva lead him out to the wagon.
“Hello Myoga.” InuYasha said as he jumped down from the wagon. Miroku followed after him and Shippo leapt onto Sango’s shoulder as she appeared from the back.
“Hello InuYasha.” Myoga said, being one of the only village people that called him by his first name.
“Here is your money from the market. It seemed like Syl fruit was in high demand once again.” InuYasha said as he removed a bag heavy with coins from the pack at his belt.
“This is a bit much.” Myoga said as he held the bag.
“I told you it was in high demand. Didn’t have any left over from the barrels you gave us. They even bought the barrel too.” InuYasha said chuckling.
“Funny. Keva please go get the horses for them I am sure they wish to leave.” Myoga said as he handed the bag of money to his daughter. “Sakura my bright one take this and place it in my room.” Sakura nodded as she grabbed the bag and went into the house.
“She’s expecting her first child.” InuYasha said as he caught that familiar scent.
“Yes she is.” Myoga said unfazed by InuYasha’s sense of smell.
“Here.” Keva said as he handed the reins to InuYasha, who handed them to Sango and Miroku.
“Miroku unhitch Ryu while I grab that girl.” InuYasha said as he went around the back to grab the sleeping Kori.
“Girl?” Myoga asked.
“We found her on the side of the road with the fox kit. Her clothes are from the other kingdom so I want to know why she ended up out here.” InuYasha said carrying the girl’s limp form.
“Oh.” Myoga said as Miroku saddled Ryu. Miroku stood back when he finished and mounted his horse. Sango followed suit as InuYasha set the sleeping girl on the horses back in front of him. Shippo jumped onto Aiko and looked around from the height.
“Thanks Myoga.” InuYasha said as he turned the horse in the opposite direction. Nudging the horse with his foot, Ryu broke into a light trot.
“Come on Miroku, Sango and runt we’re going home.” InuYasha said as the reached the main road again. “Race you home.” InuYasha said as he kicked Ryu into a gallop. Shifting the girl into his lap he held her with one arm around the waist.
“InuYasha no fair! Ryu’s the fastest horse in the Kingdom!” Miroku complained as Ryu steadily increased the distance between them.
‘Who are you really and why are you so familiar?’ InuYasha thought as he looked at the sleeping girl in his arms.
***At the castle***
“Lord Sesshomaru our scouts conformed that your brother did indeed accomplish the mission. The Eastern Lord is preparing for battle. It seems Lord InuYasha left a Northern dagger in the princess.” a short green wart covered toad said as he bowed to his lord.
“Really. It also seems like my brother has a brain after all. In order for their troops to get to the Northern lands they have to cross our boundaries. We will deny them under the false idea that they plan a Kingdom war. Which we know that my plan is to lure them to attack us first and being the Southern lands ally they will come to our aid.” Sesshomaru said as he looked over the many documents that his personal servant Jaken had brought to him.
“Your brother, my lord has returned and is currently at your father’s old steward’s house.” Jaken said after a moment.
“InuYasha has always felt trusted around Myoga’s home. Ever since he took off that day our father was wounded almost fatally, luckily the old dog healed by the time we located InuYasha.” Sesshomaru said recalling the incident.
**Flashback**
“Sesshomaru! Get InuYasha and take him out of here!” Sesshomaru’s stepmother had yelled at him. Without hesitation Sesshomaru scooped up the 7 year old InuYasha and ran out of the room that was rapidly filling with the metallic stench of blood.
“I want my momma!” InuYasha wailed as he hit his older brother on the shoulder.
“No, father is gravelly wounded and needs Izayoi and her miko healing. She doesn’t need a pup running around her feet.” Sesshomaru said his voice full of pain.
“Papa is hurt?” InuYasha asked suddenly.
“Yes he is.” Sesshomaru said relaxing his grip.
“Will he be okay?” InuYasha’s puppy ears dropped a little and his amber eyes filled with tears.
“Yes.” Sesshomaru said, knowing that he might not be. Sesshomaru being 14 knew that his father might not make it. (Okay explanation I wanted Sesshomaru to be older than InuYasha at this point yet young enough to not fully understand the concept of death. So I made him 7 years older than InuYasha. If anybody has a problem deal with it. This is my story and I will do what I wish with it.)
“Okay.” InuYasha said as he calmed down. Sesshomaru relaxed his arms. Immediately he knew it was a mistake. InuYasha bolted out of his arms and took off down the halls. Figuring he was going to the large tree in the garden Sesshomaru let him go and decided to stand guard at the entrance to this corridor.
**E.O.F**
“Who knew InuYasha could get himself in so much trouble.” Sesshomaru muttered to himself.
“Lord Sesshomaru your wife is here to see you.” Jaken said opening the door to the study. A fragile looking woman walked in her slim body was fine with the proper amount of curves. Her black hair was once again trapped in its confining braid. Holding her hands over her large belly she looked like an angel to his heart.
“Rin.” he said his emotionless voice full of love and care.
“Sesshy you were supposed to meet me in the garden an hour ago.” she whined using his pet name.
“I know I had matters to attend to. They are finished know.” Sesshomaru said standing from his desk.
“Okay but you owe me the whole day now.” Rin said pouting.
“Fine I shall do as my lady wife wishes.” Sesshomaru said grabbing his wife by the arm.
“Anything?” Rin asked with a smile that Sesshomaru missed.
“Anything.” he answered bored.
“You promise?” Rin persisted.
“Yes I promise.” he sighed.
“I want to braid your hair so it’s curly.” Rin said happily.
“What!” Sesshomaru said his face full of astonishment.
“You said anything. And you promised.” Rin said smiling. Sesshomaru groaned.
