Unveiled emotions (2)
“Human's…” there was a slight pause as the man glanced down at the odd woman, “how on earth did your species ever survive with such pitiful survival skills?”
Chancing a look above her, Kagome almost felt giddy with relief as she stared into eyes she knew well.
Sesshomaru gave a quizzical look at the fallen woman, her countenance changed from hysterical to relief at the sight of him.
`Strange…'
Shaking his head as if to dismiss how ridiculously hopeful his thoughts sounded, Sesshomaru looked down at the fallen woman.
“What did you say about that half demon scum?”
A second of two went by before Kagome realized Sesshomaru was talking to her.
“What...oh!”
Waving a hand dismissively Kagome slowly stood up.
A small growl erupted from Sesshomaru's throat at the flippant way Kagome dismissed his question.
“I'm sorry did I make it seem like you had a choice in the way you answered me? How silly of me, now answer!”
Kagome by now was on the defensive, a thoughtful expression in her eyes.
Shrugging her shoulders in an indifferent matter, who was she to judge demon relationships, Kagome took a deep breath as she looked up at the stars. Immediately a sense of serenity passed over her face.
“Inuyasha has decided to start over with Kikyo.”
It was almost as if you could feel the difference in the atmosphere, the change in Sesshomaru was so significant, though his outer appearance did not change.
Kagome smirked at this; she knew what merited the sudden change in Sesshomaru: The shame of Inuyasha, his blood, being bested by a mere human.
Or at least she thought that was the reason.
Meanwhile, Sesshomaru's thoughts were a million miles away from Inuyasha and his wench.
`So the woman is no longer with Inuyasha? How interesting…'
Sesshomaru was brought out of his musings by Kagome's smug voice, “That's right, the same woman who pinned him to a tree.”
Sesshomaru cared little for this known information; right now he was more interested in the woman in front of him.”
A deeper silence fell upon the forest as Sesshomaru himself seemed to fall into deep thought. Seconds ticked by like hours as Kagome's patience seemed to slowly unravel.
Sighing loudly at what was beginning to be a strange silence, Kagome became to fidgeting impatiently. `I have more important things to be doing… important feelings that need to be examined… what is he still doing here anyway?'
Kagome gave another exasperated sign to get Sesshomaru out of his musings.
Frowning at the rude interruption, the full blooded demon gave a warning glare at the woman in front of him. In return, Kagome simply raised her chin a notch while crossing her arms over her chest.
`He's got another thing commin' if he thinks standing there looking all intimating is going to make me submit to him.'
Silently applauding her effort of bravery, Sesshomaru allowed a small smirk to dance across his features. `I would have expected nothing less from my chosen mate.'
Finally Sesshomaru gave into his thoughts, “What is your relationship with my half demon `brother'?”
Taken by surprise at the odd question, Kagome could do nothing but gawk at the man in front of her in surprise. `What is with these people…'
“Have I grown another set of heads?
Again thrown for a loop by yet another odd question, Kagome dumbly nodded her head no.
“Well,” growled Sesshomaru, “then what is it that you are starring at?”
Blushing at the question, Kagome turned her head to the side shaking her head in a dismissive way.
As the length of silence seemed to spread outward, Sesshomaru began to grow impatient.
“Well…” He growled.
Snapping her head up at the audacity of this man, Kagome gave an indignant huff, “My relationship with Inuyasha is none of your concern.”
Now it must have been the arrogant way Kagome had declared that statement for the next thing she knew she was backed up against a tree with Sesshomaru's hand around her neck.
Frightened but not wanting Sesshomaru to see her fear Kagome glared daggers at the man in front of her.
“Get off.” Both starred at each other with equal shock at what Kagome had just ordered.
Sesshomaru was so speechless… so shocked that nothing seemed to register in his mind. No one and I mean no one had ever dared to order him, Sesshomaru, to do anything, no matter how trivial the command.
Kagome was the first to recover. However upon returning to her senses the first thing she noticed was how the grip around her neck was firm but not hurtful, how alarmed but not frightened she was of the man in front of her.
Turning her eyes up to meet his gaze, Kagome, by default, was allowed to see the play of emotions cross Sesshomaru's features. First was shock, then anger and finally…oh Kami… was that desire she saw catch fire in his eyes?
Blinking rapidly as if to crush the silly idea, Kagome quickly found his gaze again, only to be disappointed as his schooled mask of composure slipped into place.
A strange feeling of disappointment filled Kagome as she thought how wonderful it had been to see a different side of the stoic Demon Lord. Violently she smothered the preposterous idea.
Slowly Sesshomaru loosened the grip of his hand until it lay resting on Kagome's collarbone. Absently his thumb traced the line of her bone, messaging the skin above and below. Kagome's body instantly relaxed.
Sesshomaru found himself pleasantly surprised by this. `She did not pull away.'
Kagome all the while was watching intensely, looking for any signs of what Sesshomaru was thinking. She couldn't be sure, but she was almost certain that Sesshomaru was somehow pleased at her reaction to him. For some reason, he was doing a god awful job of completely blanketing his emotions.
Without permission Kagome's hand raised from her side to rest on his outstretched arm. Sesshomaru instinctively stiffened under her touch.
Looking into her eyes, Sesshomaru was surprised to see that a faint blush now played upon her checks. He was surprised to see how vulnerable she looked starring up at him with those wide curious eyes. Leaning toward her, Sesshomaru buried the side of his face into Kagome's hair, absently inhaling her sweet, innocent scent. Kagome's other hand reached out hold the side of Sesshomaru's narrow waist, balling up the material of his kimono as she hand tightened around the material.
He waited to see if she wound reject his advances, but to his surprise he caught the scent, a very faint scent of Kagome's arousal.
Waves of desire seemed to pound into him as he leaned in further to nip at her earlobe.
Angling her head to the side, as to allow Sesshomaru more room, Kagome pushed her body upward to find more of the pleasant warmth Sesshomaru's body seemed to be radiating.
Lost to the thoughts of finally claiming Kagome as his, Sesshomaru froze when an unwanted scent bombarded his senses. It was as if someone had thrown ice cold water onto his overheated body. But instead of shuddering from the cold, Sesshomaru was shaking was unrepressed rage.
Kagome timidly put some space between their bodies as she noted the change in atmosphere.
Taking a shy glance toward Sesshomaru, Kagome noticed that although he stared straight ahead, every ounce of his attention was directed a little to the left of where they now stood.
Aware, yet unaware of the woman in his arms, Sesshomaru tried to reign in his blinding rage as the bane of his existence continued to make a steady path toward him.
`Damn that bastard Inuyasha!'
Exhaling the frustration that was pressing down on his shoulders, Sesshomaru leaned forward so that his forehead lightly touched Kagome's.
Their eyes locked as Sesshomaru absently tucked a stray hair behind Kagome's ear.
“We will continue this at another time, when I am sure there will be no interruptions.”
The intensity at which he was staring caused Kagome's stomach to make silly little flip flops. As if just realizing it Kagome noticed that Sesshomaru had begun to slowly float away. Neither one broke eye contact as Inuyasha came hurdling threw the trees, sword drawn.
Almost out of eyesight, as if he thought she could no longer make out his feature, Sesshomaru gave Kagome a sensuous smile and was gone.
“Sesshomaru come back here and fight me!” Inuyasha yelled as he ran after his older brother. `Damn him, what does he think he's doing? First I smell his disgusting arousal and then I see his hand around Kagome's neck! Is that how he gets off?'
By the time he had reached the skyline of the tree tops, the half demon begrudgingly realized that Sesshomaru was no where to be found.
`Damn!'
Inuyasha was shaking with anger by the time he got back to Kagome.
`How dare he touch what is mine!'
Inuyasha was crazy with rage at his older `brother' as he caught his first glimpse of Kagome through the trees.
Landing without a sound, Inuyasha stomped his way up to a quiet Kagome and in a voice not betraying the way he felt Inuyasha barked, “What happened Kagome? Did he hurt you?”
Kagome was silent for a moment, still caught up in the daze of whatever it was Sesshomaru had placed upon her senses.
Flashing his hand in front of Kagome's glazed eyes, Inuyasha pushed down the apprehension Kagome's appearance was invoking in him.
Finally a hint, more like a sparkle that Kagome was coming back to her senses, spread across her dull murky brown eyes.
The sparkle that started in the eyes spread to her lips in the form of a small smile.
`Now that's a side of Sesshomaru you don't see everyday!'
Inuyasha mistook this transformation in Kagome as a result of his appearance. Unfortunately for him, Kagome's mind was far from Inuyasha.
`Keh! First Kikyo and now Kagome!' Inuyasha couldn't believe his good luck with woman.
Full of self pride, Inuyasha leaned down to take Kagome into his arms, fully prepared for any reaction from his woman… well almost any.
Stiffening at the sudden closeness, Kagome froze when she realized who was now holding her. The anger came full force as she realized that Inuyasha was attempting to play the hero when just minuets ago he was acting more like a deceitful villain.
`What nerve! How can his conscious stand for it?'
Raged bloomed just beneath the surface as Kagome remember just what had caused her to come out, traipsing through the woods in the first place.
Violently shoving the two timing hanyou out of her arms, Kagome shot to her feet.
Inuyasha, not expecting her sudden dismissal followed. “What was that for Kagome?”
All he received for an answer was a cool star from Kagome. Fidgeting nervously under the harsh attention, Inuyasha looked away. It was as if that one look knew everything, yet nothing about him, that she new some deep secret.
Suddenly disgusted at the man in front of her, Kagome was forced to look away.
`It's just appalling! Trying to make me fell special when he has a woman on the side! What nerve!'
“Kagome!” Inuyasha have shouted had pleaded.
Receiving a cold shoulder for an answer, the half demon spun Kagome around to face him.
“What the hell's wrong with you?”
Kagome glared deeply into his eyes, daring him to say one more word… and them she spoke.
“Inuyasha….. SIT!!!!”
A crash, followed by a cry of pain could be heard resonating throughout the forest.
Muttering something about baka half-breeds who are too two faced to see straight, Kagome stormed off in the direction Inuyasha had entered.
After awhile and no sign of Inuyasha, Kagome allowed herself to relax. She didn't know how tense her muscles had become until she allowed herself to relax. Unfortunately for Kagome's piece of mind it was her body and only her body that relaxed.
“I can't believe him! The next time…oomph…" crash…
”Owww!” cried Kagome as she tenderly rubbed her ankle.
Standing up, Kagome threw back her leg as if she was going to kick the stuffing out of the offending little weed plant, but thinking better of it, she decided to lower her foot.
`How foolish would I have looked if someone had actually been watching that?”
Unfortunately, the second Kagome looked up she was starring at four pairs of worried eyes.
`Oh boy…'
“Is everything OK Kagome?” asked Sango timidly, as if she were talking to a person wanting to commit suicide off a bridge.
“Yeah Kagome, Inuyasha woke me up when he was trying to sneak away!”
The little fox demon flew into Kagome's arms, holding tightly as he continued on.
“I went over to your sleeping bag to warn of Inuyasha's departure but I couldn't find you!” Shippo was now crying into Kagome's shirt, his worry over Kagome's safety clearly evident.
It was time for Miroku to step in.
“Yes, Shippo then woke us up.”
“He also mentioned something about Sesshomaru's scent lingering close by…” Sango paused as she bent down to gather wood for the fire, “do you happen to know what Inuyasha is talking about Kagome?
All four turned to look at Kagome.
`Oh yea, Sesshomaru was here all right, in fact I think he was about to screw the living daylights out of me when Inuyasha showed up!'
“Heh, he…Oh really?”
Clearing the laugh that was threatening to bubble out of her throat, Kagome continued.
“Well, I was just trying to clear my head with a nice brisk walk in the woods when all of a sudden Inuyasha came barreling through the trees.” *Sweat drop.*
`That's almost accurate.'
Unsure glances passed through the group as Kagome forced a smile she didn't feel. She could tell Miroku was just about to say something when Inuyasha barreled in front of Kagome, blocking Miroku, Sango and Shippo from her sight.
“Like I said before,” shouted Inuyasha in an irritated voice, “what the hell is wrong with you?”
Looking to the ground Kagome tried to smother her impatience with the half demon.
`Why won't she answer me!' roared Inuyasha in his mind. Grabbing her chin with his clawed hand, Inuyasha forced the surprised woman to look him in the eyes.
“I'll I did was ask a simple question! You didn't have to be so overdramatic!”
“Over... OVERDRAMTIC!!” oh boy did he just cut the last few strands of patience Kagome had left.
“I'm entitled… no I have every right to vent my emotions any way I choose fit!”
Taking a deep breath Kagome charged on.
“You're the one who came charging in, sword draw, horn's blowing to fight some nonexistent danger!”
Sitting around the forgotten fire, was a curious Sango and Miroku. The two were clueless as to what had happened, while Shippo, who had long ago given up trying to decipher the couple's odd behavior, was soundly asleep next to Kirara in Kagome's sleeping bag.
Keeping her voice low Sango whispered to Miroku, “Do you know what's going on?”
Miroku only lifted his shoulders as the two continued to fight.
“What do you mean there was no danger!! Sesshomaru had his hand around your neck!”
Cocking her head slightly to the side Kagome silently wondered how Inuyasha could have misinterpreted the situation to such a degree.
`How did Inuyasha manage to misread the situation so much? I guess that maybe from his vantage point Sesshomaru could have looked like he was gonna kill me but…'
“I wasn't in any danger!”
“Keh!”
“And how could you possibly have detected that Sesshomaru was even in the area! I mean you were…”
Kagome caught herself before she made a fool out of herself.
`I can't believe I almost confessed to spying! Kami! How jealous would I have sounded?'
Inuyasha on the other hand had caught on to what she was saying. His usually dense demeanor had been replaced with paranoia… it always was after a meeting with Kikyo.
The pair continued to argue as Sango and Miroku began piecing together the story, filling in the holes as they came across one.
“So Kagome really was with Sesshomaru.” whispered Miroku.
“Yes, and I bet there's a lot more to the story than they're both letting on.” answered Sango in the same low undertones.
“SIT BOY!!
Sango and Miroku were cut off from their conversation by Inuyasha getting pummeled into the ground.
Both turned their eyes to Kagome who turned her nose up and crossed her arms.
“I'm sorry you two had to see this but I think its time for me to go home. Goodbye.”
Turning on her heel the furious woman was gone.
