“Just like me? Whaddya mean?” Inuyasha asked. Mika sighed; finally ready to tell her story, one she'd kept a secret for many years. “Simple. You see, my mother was a dog youkai and my father was a human. We were a close family. That is, until my mother left us both. She decided that she didn't love my father anymore and went off to be with a full dog youkai like herself. My father was crushed, but he tried to stay happy, knowing that it was now his job to care for me. A few years after leaving us, we heard that my mother had died giving birth to another child. This saddened my father even more. Often times, I overheard him trying to plan his own death. But I knew he couldn't bear to do it, not while I still stayed in his care. Even more time passed and, as each season faded away, so did a bit of my father's spirit. On the evening Sesshomaru attacked our village, our own house collapsed on top of me while my father was outside helping defend our village.” “How? Did Sesshomaru jump on top of the house or something?” Mika laughed quietly. “No. Not on my house at least. Sesshomaru had called upon the help of some local demons. They took out all the houses and the people within them while he focused on finding my father. You see, Sesshomaru found out, just as I did, that his mother had lain with my father before leaving him for Inutaisho.” “But… that would mean…” Inuyasha eyes went wide as realization struck. “Yes, Inuyasha. Sesshomaru and I share the same mother, making me his half-sister.”

“Inuyasha was still in shock. “Does that make us related? Does Sesshomaru know? How long have you known?” Mika laughed. “So many questions. No, Inuyasha, we aren't related. Our only connection is through Sesshomaru. As far as I am aware, Sesshomaru has no idea that I am his sister. I prefer it that way. I myself have known since he attacked our village. He spoke of his mother, both of her appearance and unfortunate death, and I knew it was the same woman who'd given birth to me. I… was unable to help my father that night.” “Why?” “Because… I…” Mika simply trailed off. She couldn't tell him. She'd never told anyone. Only she and Sesshomaru knew what occurred that evening. “And it's going to stay that way.” “I'm gonna go back to the hut.” “But, Mika…” Mika turned to face him. “Inuyasha, I'm sorry. I really don't wanna talk about it anymore. And I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell the others. I don't think they'd understand.” Inuyasha sighed and nodded. “Come on. At least let me take you back.” Mika smiled as she and Inuyasha raced off together into the darkness.

Once back at the hut, Kagome and the others questioned Mika. “Are you alright, Mika? We were all really worried.” “Yeah. I'm fine. I am a hanyou, after all.” “A hanyou??” they shouted in unison. Inuyasha, who sat in the corner, smiled. “So she decided to tell them after all.” “Yes. My father was human and my mother was a dog youkai.” “If you're a hanyou, you have a night when you become human, right?” Shippo asked. Mika nodded. “So, when is it?” “Shippo!” Inuyasha yelled. “You shouldn't ask a hanyou to reveal something like that. If one of her enemies found out the night she turns human, she'd be vulnerable and-” “Stop.” Inuyasha turned and saw Mika smiling. “It's okay, Inuyasha. The only enemy I have discovered my human night long ago. Truth be told, my name itself gives the night away.” It was then that Miroku piped up. “Ah, that's right. `Mika' literally means full moon. Is that when your human night is then?” Mika nodded. “Oddly enough, I was born at night during a full moon, hence my name. My father thought I might be a normal child, but when the sun rose…” At that moment, Kirara began to growl fiercely, hair standing on end. Mika and Inuyasha looked at one another. “Inuyasha, is it…” “Yea. Sesshomaru.”
