One morning, a thought entered the western lord's mind that he could not shake. “What shall we do with the Shikon no Tama? We have yet to join the final pieces and, once we do, we still do not know what to use it for.” Inuyasha and Mika, resting near the inu-youkai, heard his thoughts. “Quit worrying, Fluffy! We're all together and I haven't killed you, that's all that matters right now.” “I have to agree with Inuyasha, Sessh. Naraku won't come after the jewel now that he's virtually powerless.” Sesshomaru looked at the hanyou lovers and sighed. “Yes, this is all true, but still I worry. To be sure we are truly safe, we must join the pieces together and make a pure wish. Then, and only then, can we truly rest peacefully.” Inuyasha looked over at his mate and sighed. “I know how he feels, Mika. I constantly worry about Naraku trying to kidnap you again in order to get the jewel. Mika was taken aback. “You worry, Inu-kun?” Inuyasha looked annoyed. “Of course I worry. What do you think I am, an emotionless shell?!” Mika's ears flattened against her head. “Sorry, Inu-kun. It's just, why do you both worry so much. I'm not worried in the least. I now that, when the time comes, we can make the jewel whole and make a pure wish, but I don't think that time is now.” Inuyasha reached into his haori and extracted the nearly completed jewel. “Mika, for once, I have to disagree. We need to get rid of the jewel and we need to do it now, before Naraku makes his next move.” Mika hesitated, then handed him the two jewel shards she had taken from Kouga. “If you're sure, Inuyasha…” Inuyasha nodded slowly. He took the shards and carefully fused them with the rest of the jewel.

Suddenly, the jewel shone a bright pink, lighting up the entire cave. The others, who had been sleeping soundly, now stirred. “Inuyasha, what's going on?” Miroku asked, sitting up sharply. “It's time, monk. We've gotta make the wish.” Miroku startled, began to nod. “What do we wish for?” Sango asked. All looked confused. No one had even thought of what sort of wish to make. Mika was the first to speak. “Inuyasha, you make the wish.” Inuyasha's eyes were wide with confusion. “What?! I have no idea what to wish for!” “Neither does anyone else, but I still think you should make it, whatever the wish may be.” Inuyasha looked to the others, who nodded in agreement. Inuyasha swallowed and grasped the jewel tightly. “A pure wish? Damn, this is hard. Okay, let me think… Wait a second, I think I've got it.” Slowly, Inuyasha began to speak. “I wish that the Shikon no Tama would disappear, so that it may no longer cause pain and suffering to those who posses it.” The Shikon jewel began to glow even brighter, the pink light enveloping them all. Inuyasha stared as the jewel in his hand vanished and was replaced with a simple clear stone. “Is that the Shikon jewel?” Shippo asked. Inuyasha smiled slightly and shook his head. “Not anymore, Shippo. The jewel's gone and it isn't coming back.” Mika and the others breathed a sigh of relief. “It's over now, right Sesshy?” “Yes, Mika, I believe it is.”

Things were quiet from that point on. Once Naraku discovered the jewel was gone, he dropped his guard, making it easy to destroy him. Miroku, the Wind Tunnel now gone, stared a family with none other than Sango. Shippo and Rin had become infatuated with one another and, once old enough, began traveling on their own. Jaken and Ah-Un still watched over them on Sesshomaru's orders. Kouga and Ayame had already bore two cubs with a third on the way. Kagome, whom Inuyasha and Mika still visited from time to time, had begun dating Hojo and was now in her senior year of high school. Sesshomaru, Inuyasha, and Mika traveled together for quite some time, until Sesshomaru ran into someone from his past, a wolf hanyou named Kohana. (A/N: My editor, moonalchemist, is current working on a story regarding Kohana, and should have it posted sometime in the near future.) Now, Mika and Inuyasha were on their own. “Inuyasha?” “Yeah, Mika?” “Do you miss the others?” “Yeah, sometimes. Why do you ask?” “No reason. I just wonder what things would be like had I never come around, if we'd never made peace with Sesshomaru, things like that. “Inuyasha looked over to his mate and smiled. “Well, I can tell you one thing. I'd never be as happy as I am now, here with you.” Mika blushed and leaned her head against Inuyasha's broad chest. “I love it when you say things like that, Inuyasha.” “Yeah, I know. By the way, how's the little guy doing?” Mika glanced down at her protruding stomach. “Good, I think. He should be here in less than a month.” Inuyasha smiled and stared up at the crescent moon, hanging in the night sky. It was then Inuyasha realized something he knew he had to share. “Hey, Mika?” “Yeah?” “Remember what Sessh said before he left with Kohanna?” “You mean how we'd never really be alone?” “Yeah, well, I just figured out what he meant. Mika, you and I are perfect for each other. I'm a hanyou, you're a hanyou, and our pup shall be hanyou as well. We were created by two species that were never meant to be together, and yet, here we stand. We may be half-breeds, tainted blood, whatever we're called, but together, we can create something beautiful. We may be just hanyou, but that's all we need to be. We have each other and, that's why, we'll never truly be alone.” Mika smiled and snuggled closer to her mate. “You're smarter than you look, Inu-kun.”
